00:12Hello, welcome to Gangs All Here. My name is Ryan Sampson, but he's the Jets beat writer
00:16Brian Costell. This is week one preview Jets versus Titans on Gangs All Here, and we're
00:21excited to talk about Jets real football games here at Coz. We finally got here. I know
00:28it's been a long off season, just have so much talk about other things besides it feels
00:32like the actual football games themselves, but I know I'm excited to talk some real action
00:36with you today. Yeah, finally here, Ryan. I can't wait for Sunday to actually watch it.
00:42You know, we've tried to figure out what this offense is going to look like, what the defense
00:46is going to look like. We'll actually see it Sunday and, you know, what was fun watching
00:50some actual football last night with the Patriots and Seahawks, even though it wasn't the greatest
00:55game I've ever watched in my life, but it's nice to see real football back.
01:00For sure. And I think what's going to be exciting about specifically this week one matchup that's
01:05been talked about, I feel like a little bit, and we can discuss now is this is the Robert
01:09Sala return revenge game, right? Like this is him getting his chance to face his old team
01:14that he was fired from two years ago in the middle of the season by Woody Johnson. We remember
01:20Woody flying down the helicopter, coming into the facility, telling him, Hey, that's it.
01:24You're done. Uh, and then cleaning house. Cause that was not his hire. That was his brother's
01:29hire. And we know all that story, but, um, I am interested to hear your thoughts on the
01:35Aaron Glenn, Robert Sala of it all. Like this is another defensive coach and Aaron Glenn,
01:40right? Like he's trying to prove himself as his defensive forward to is calling the defensive
01:44plays here. Sala obviously controls the defense over there now in Tennessee. He's got a lot of
01:49familiar faces over there in Tennessee, former jets, former giants. So what are like the biggest
01:54like things you're looking for when it comes to this solid versus Glenn matchup?
01:59Yeah. I mean, look, it's been, it's a fun talking point. The NFL gave us, but once one
02:05o'clock comes that kind of phase into the background and then around four o'clock, it's going to
02:10come into the forefront again, especially if the Titans win this game. Right. I wrote the
02:14other day, the season's not over if the jets lose this game. I know there's been a lot of
02:19discussion. Is this a must win? It's not over, but it's going to feel that way. And the reaction
02:24on Monday, Sunday night and Monday is going to be like the season's over and they've got
02:29three tough games coming up after that. So, yeah, I mean, I think, you know, as far as
02:35solid versus Glenn, that's fun to talk about. I think this is for jets fans. This is really,
02:40you know, more about Aaron Glenn and what does he look like as the play caller? Can he, you
02:48know, turn this defense around? That was so bad last year in his first year as head coach
02:52when Steve Wilkes was calling the defense. Yeah. So I think we're going to get some answers
02:56there and I'm curious, Ryan, just, I think managing the game when you're calling the defense
03:03is a tricky thing. I think it's a lot easier when you call the offense because why? Because
03:09you tend to take timeouts on the offense, like strategic, like where you have to really
03:14think about it. Defensive timeouts are kind of like, okay, there's two and a half minutes
03:18left. Let's use a timeout. It's pretty easy, but offense, you kind of have to be feeling
03:22the game and thinking about it and challenges. You have to be locked in. So can he do that
03:28and also be calling defense? You know, Mike McDonald watching Seattle last night, I thought
03:33there was times where I was like, huh, this is kind of weird what he's doing. Like, there
03:36was a delayed game right by the goal line on them. And it's like, why didn't he call
03:40timeout there? And it's like, oh, I wonder if he's like, he might even look at his defensive
03:45play sheet and thinking, well, okay, what are we going to do here when, when New England
03:49comes on the field? Like, I think that's tricky. So I'm curious to see how Aaron Glenn manages
03:52that. He says he has people around him that are going to help him with that. They're going
03:56to be in his year, but there could be some mistakes early on. And then just overall, yeah,
04:01I just want to see the identity of this defense and what it looks like. There's a ton of new
04:05players on it. I mean, that's the other part of this solid storyline. There's barely anyone
04:09left. Yeah. There's no one really crazy. Yeah. Our defense is Will McDonald and Jamie
04:13Sherwood. And that's pretty much it. Offense, you have Garrett and Brees and, you know,
04:18Olu played for him for five games. But for the most part, you know, it's, this roster
04:25has basically been turned over. So I think it's going to be fun for the fans. I think
04:30Salah can say whatever he wants that this is just another game. If he wins this game,
04:33I think you're going to see him, you know, his veins bulging out of his neck and then
04:37pumping his fist and celebrating because yeah, and he should, right. He was fired by this
04:42team. So I understand why it would mean something to him.
04:45Yeah. I completely agree with you. I want to, I agree also with the first thing you said
04:50with about the must win. And I think we can get into that in a little bit later, but I
04:54think the Salah part of it all, I thought it was interesting. His comments leading into
04:58this game, they were asking him, you know, what's it like facing your former team. And
05:02the most interesting thing cause was him talking about the jets offense. I thought. And when
05:07he said the old line is sneaky, good, it's a hundred percent by the end of the year could
05:11be seen as one of the top 10 offensive line units in all football. It can be an offense.
05:17It's it is an offense that can be very, very explosive. I would not be shocked if it is a
05:21top
05:2210 unit by the end of the year. So you tell me, is this high praise from a coach? Just
05:27football
05:28speak or is there actual thought of, Hey, the jets, we've always talked about the potential.
05:35Can we see a weak one?
05:37I wouldn't put too much stock in Salah saying that. I think he, this is who he is. He always,
05:43he's kind of a guy who always thinks the other team is just amazing. And like, uh, he's,
05:50it's just the way his mind works from talking to him. Like he's always very nervous about who
05:55he's playing and the potential. And I think, I do think there's a week one element of it
05:59where you don't know what to expect, you know? And that's, that's every year with week one,
06:03you're not really sure what to expect, but especially in this case where there's so many
06:08new players on both teams and, um, basically a new coaching staff on both teams, other than
06:14Aaron Glenn, everything's different. I, you know, with Frank Wright calling the offense and
06:18everyone calling the defense. And then over there, they have solid calling the defense and
06:22they will call on the offense. So it's hard to figure out exactly what to expect. There's a lot
06:26of unknowns. I think that's just Salah. You know, I think he's, I think he's blowing some smoke there.
06:32And in terms of who the jets could be facing here defensively as an offensive unit, they're
06:37going to be against familiar faces. When you talk about Jermaine Johnson, who's now over there,
06:42uh, John Franklin Myers wants a very good jet for them. Um, and, and I think it's, what's interesting
06:47is, is how exactly the jets are going to be able to handle that four man rush. And then the
06:52cover
06:52three that they're going to be playing in the back end from Salah's defense. How do you see Frank
06:58Wright's West coast motion concept and how this offense can attack Salah's defense?
07:05Yeah. You know, I think that secondary is the weakness in Salah's defense. I think they will,
07:09they'll be throwing a lot. Uh, I think for both sides of the ball, the story is going to be
07:14how
07:14the lines hold up. I know that's a common thing in football. I think it's more so this
07:19week. I, the Titans offensive line to me seems like a weakness and their defensive line seems
07:24like a strength. Uh, so how can, and we've, we've talked about the Jets offensive line a
07:30ton and how their potential. We'll see how they do. You know, Jeffrey Simmons is a pretty
07:35freaking good player and we know it, you know, Jermaine's going to be motivated. JFM's a really
07:41good player. So he's got it. He's got solid players up front. Uh, I have some questions
07:46about his secondary, you know, Cordell Flott is back there from, from people who might know
07:51from the Giants. Um, they signed Taylor, I think he's back there. Like it's, so the Jets
07:57should be able to throw on them. Um, but no, I'm curious to see, I don't know what Frank
08:02Wright's offense is with Ryan, right? Like he's, I think this, he can't come out and just
08:05wouldn't do what he did in Carolina. Uh, you know, to her, like Seth Ryan is as an influential,
08:11he has got a role. So we'll see, you know, Sunday what this offense actually looks like.
08:16Yeah. Look, and, and for this offensive line, like you said, they're going to move against
08:20one of the best in the league and Jeffrey Simmons. Uh, I think what's also important
08:25is how does Brees Hall look coming back from this groin injury, right? He, they kind
08:30of gave him some real rest here, but there's also your, when you're dealing with a running
08:35back, it's different than a quarterback dealing with a groin injury. Like you're talking about
08:38Brees, who's going to be using obviously his legs are his, his best weapon. Like, do you
08:44see them maybe slow playing him a little bit, or you think it's going to be full bandaid
08:48off? Hey, we're giving you the full, full go of the offense.
08:51No, I think he'll be limited a little bit. I don't think like insane or anything. Like,
08:55but I just don't, I don't think he can go out there and, you know, have 25 carries in
08:59this one. I think it's, I think they'll work Brailler down a little bit more. I do
09:04think Aaron Glenn is genuine in saying like, he wants to have, um, you know, the three headed
09:09monster there. And I, like, I, I do think he wants that, but I think you'll see some
09:14Brailler down and it's been, you know, it's been a while for Brees now. I can't remember
09:17how many weeks ago it was that he got hurt. It's at least, at least two, maybe three weeks
09:22ago they got hurt. So I remember thinking at the time that this was a pretty good time to
09:27have this injury that, that he wouldn't be, you know, he would have time to recover for week
09:31one. So I think he'll be, you know, I, he's, he's looked fine when I've seen him in practice
09:36running. Uh, so I don't think that's a concern, but I, do you just worry about soft tissue injuries
09:41that I'm coming back if he didn't work? Well, it's too heavy. Yeah. So Brees got hurt in the
09:45August 17th practice on that Monday. Uh, so it's been well over three weeks, three weeks. Yeah.
09:51Yeah. So he should be, he should be good. I just, I also think it's gonna be 92 degrees or
09:56something down there someday. So you're not gonna, you're not gonna run him into the ground
10:01in week one. Uh, you're going to have a mix of running backs and Isaiah Davis has been out even
10:05longer with the knee injuries. So I'm not sure what to expect from him. And he really, I haven't
10:09seen him. He practiced, uh, Tuesday, but we weren't out there. Um, but like, I haven't really seen him
10:16run at all. So I'm not sure he can, he can be part of the mix too much. And cause
10:21listen,
10:21speaking of injuries, uh, Kenyan Sadiq, we see his practicing is full this week. And, uh, we saw
10:27that D'Angelo Pons made his return to practice this week. Isaiah Davis as well. Osai is still out,
10:32uh, with, with the, uh, it's the plantar fasciitis, right. So, uh, but let's talk about Sadiq. Uh,
10:40you know, you've said, look, he's not going to get the full playbook here to start. What do you expect
10:46from him week one against the Titans? Yeah, I think he's going to play a decent amount. I mean,
10:52he's practiced now for two weeks. So I think they'll, they'll figure out, you know, they'll
10:55be able to work him in. I just don't think you're going to be able to do the full array
10:58of stuff that
10:58you had planned, but he's had some time now. He's had some practices. He should be able to,
11:04you know, be, be a big part of the offense. Just to do the other part is Mason Taylor's had
11:08a really
11:08good summer. So I think they like Mason Taylor. There seems to be a trust between Gino and Mason
11:15Taylor. Uh, they worked out together a lot in South Florida. They, they had some chemistry
11:20this summer. So I think you can't just push him aside for Sadiq, right? I think Frank Rice
11:25can figure out how to get both of them on the field at the same time, which to me, Sadiq
11:28is
11:28almost like the third receiver. I know that guy was a big conversation, like Omar Cooper
11:33and Isaiah Williams. Like I can see Sadiq almost being that third receiver type of role. Like
11:38he's split out a lot and they, they go to him a lot. Um, so it won't shock me, you
11:43know,
11:43I don't, I don't, I'm not gonna predict a big day for him Sunday, but I think he'll
11:46be, you know, you're going to know, you're going to notice him in the game.
11:50And look, Gino, we've known historically when he has a clean pocket, he is, he can
11:55shred some defenses and the secondary, like the Titans, you said could be the
11:59weakness for them, but the jets offensive line has to hold up against their pass
12:03rush. Cause we know how solid is with rushing for, uh, if Gino can get some time
12:07off, talk to me guys. Could this be a nice first week of Gino's re-debut with
12:14the New York jets?
12:16Look, I have a lot of respect for Sala as a defensive coach. So I think he's
12:20going to make it hard on Gino. I do. I don't like, I think he's going to throw a
12:24lot of looks at him. I know you said like cover three and that's the Seattle
12:27thing, but Sala makes, he's going to mix it up. Like he's going to have wrinkles
12:30that they're, they're not expecting. Um, and I do think he'll rush for a lot
12:35cause he has those guys. So I think Gino is going to have to be able to
12:38figure out what's going on with the extra defensive backs and that kind of
12:42thing. So Gino's going to be a hard guy to predict all season, right? Like
12:46he's going to, we talked about the Gino coaster. He's going to have games that
12:50you're like, Oh my God, he's awesome. And then he's going to do games like the
12:54draft can't get your scene enough to get another quarterback. So which one of
12:58those will this be? I don't know, but I, you know, probably somewhere in the
13:02middle, cause I think he'll have some success. Um, but I also think Sal is
13:06going to throw him some curve balls and, you know, wouldn't shock me if
13:09there's an interception. Um, you know, I, I think, I think he's probably going to
13:14have a, kind of a, um, middle range game in this one.
13:18And with Brees Hall coming back and Braylon Allen being mixed in that run game
13:23is going to be essential to set up the play action. Cause I know Frank Reich is
13:26going to try to use that a bunch of misdirection to get at nine Mitchell and
13:30Garrett Wilson, the ball. Can those two guys take advantage of a secondary that
13:34shouldn't be the strength of this defense? And could we expect big days from
13:39Garrett Wilson and that nine Mitchell? Yeah, I think you can, I think you can
13:42hope for big days. I don't expect, but like, I think you'd hope, I do think
13:46they've looked good all summer. Both of them. They both look like they have
13:49chemistry with, uh, with Gino. I'll tell you this. Like I talked to Garrett the
13:54other day in the locker room for a little while after his press conference, we
13:58were just talking about some things. And at the end he was just kind of like,
14:01he went to like shake my hand and he said like, this is going to be a good
14:06season. Like this is the expect a big season. Like this is like, he's G I know
14:10the playoffs got a lot of attention. Like he believes it like that wasn't him
14:14just spouting that off. Like there's a lot of excitement in the locker room
14:18right now. A lot of optimism. I think Garrett thinks they're going to have a big
14:21season. So I would, um, yeah, I would expect that they'll have some success.
14:26Those two, uh, in this game.
14:29And I also was impressed with, even with besides the playoff comment with
14:33Garrett, the, when he was asked about not being a captain.
14:36Yeah. I asked him that. Yeah. When you asked him that, I mean, his response was,
14:40was so professional. I'm like, yeah, you fall in love with a guy.
14:44I'm not going to get, I'm not going to get into our conversation, but that's what
14:46we talked about. I just kind of went over him afterwards and kind of say, Hey dude,
14:49you like, you know, I had to ask him that. Right. And we talked for a while and I was
14:53impressed with him completely. Like he's, you know, he gets it. And, uh, so I think
15:00that's a good sign. I think, you know, it's weird when you cover players, Ryan, that are
15:04drafted. They're so young when they come in and like, you always have to remind
15:09yourself that they're 22 or 23 years old or sometimes 20 or 21. And that's really
15:15young. And then as I haven't covered many players in a long time that have stayed
15:20with the Jets. Like they're usually gone by the time they're 24. Yeah. Um, but
15:25it's interesting. Like, it's like you're watching Darren grow up. Like he's growing
15:29up. Like it's, I think he's much, seems much more mature to me than a few years
15:34ago. And, uh, so I think that's a good thing for the Jets. Yeah, man. I, I can't
15:39help but root for that kid even further. Uh, as a Jets fan, I, I, I want him to be
15:43a
15:43career jet. Uh, I just hope and pray. Like he said, they can have a successful
15:47season. He has a successful season and make him happy because I feel bad for
15:52him. Cause like you said in previous shows with him and breeze, these guys have
15:56experienced nothing but losing here. And it's been really rough. And I think if
16:01they can somehow the big ships turn slow, but if they can turn that ship a little
16:06bit this year, cause it would, I think help a lot for them in their career and
16:11where they're thinking about themselves. Um, I think we got to flip it over to the
16:16other side now and talk about this, this Glenn defense and what your
16:21expectations are against a quarterback in Cam Ward who struggled at times last
16:26year as a rookie. Uh, I know reports out of camp have not been pretty, but take
16:30those with a grain of salt because you know, he's learning a new offense or
16:33Brian Dayball who's coming in and installing that. Uh, they do have the
16:37number four overall pick and Carnell Tate a wide receiver from Ohio state. They
16:41still have some weapons and Tony Pollard, uh, Calvin Ridley, I believe too. So
16:46like, what, what do you expect this Jets defense to be able to do against this
16:51offense?
16:52Yeah. So I, I think we've talked about it, Ryan. I went down to Nashville for a day
16:56in early August. I watched one of their trading camp practices and it was jarring
17:02to me how bad their offensive line is. Like, and again, we talked about their
17:07defensive line is pretty good. So their defensive line, I was at the practice
17:09Jeffrey Simmons got thrown out of for throwing a punch. So he wasn't even out
17:13there the whole time, but their defensive line was just teeing off. Like
17:17Jermaine was having a day when I was there. He was in the backfield
17:21constantly. And like, you don't, you know, you don't sack the quarterback, but
17:24like you just get close and he would get close and he was turning to the
17:26offensive sideline every time and being like, that's another one, you know? So
17:30like they were killing them. So I do think David Bailey, Will McDonald, uh,
17:37Harrison Phillips, John Briggs, like, I'm not sure what to expect from
17:41Tavondre Sweat yet, but I think, I think this could be a big day for the
17:44defensive line. I think they're going to get to Cam Ward quite a bit. I think
17:48they're going to have a decent number of sacks. I don't really believe in that
17:51running game either. Tony Pollard doesn't really excite me. Uh, and the line has
17:56issues. Cam Ward's interesting. You know, I mean, obviously the talent to be a
18:00number one pick, but it, uh, he's had a rough summer by all counts. So to me,
18:08if I'm Brian Dayball, I'm attacking the Jets secondary for sure. I got, I'm not
18:13thinking this is going to be a run heavy game. I'm trying to get the ball out of
18:15Cam Ward's hands fast. Um, the Jets secondary is the weakness. So we'll see if
18:22they get picked on. I think Dayball is a really good offensive coach. I think it's
18:26an interesting, the Dayball style I think is interesting, right? Because we know the
18:29New York, New York part of it, but Dayball is a really good offensive coach that
18:33couldn't quite get the defense right with the Giants. Uh, Sal is a really good
18:37defensive coach that couldn't quite get the offense right with the Jets. Can them
18:41combining forces, uh, can they, can they do something in Tennessee? So I think Dayball
18:46will have a plan. I also, Ryan, I don't know. I think I, well, last time I looked at
18:50it was nine, it's going to be nine degrees Sunday, chance of rain. This, that's tough
18:56week one, right? It's like none of the, none of these guys have played much in the
19:01preseason. They practiced early in the morning and training camp. It really
19:06wasn't that hot this summer at all. It was two days. I remember we're kind of
19:10uncomfortable, but other than that, it wasn't, wasn't the hardest training camp
19:14I've ever witnessed. I think there was two days where Glenn really went heavy on
19:17them, but for the most part, it was not that hard of a camp in my opinion. So I
19:24like, what's the conditioning like in the second half when it's 90 degrees in
19:28Nashville with 85% humidity or whatever it's going to be like, that's a thing
19:33in week one. Um, you know, like I feel like the Jets never want to play in Miami
19:38early in the season, but this, this is, this is going to be a similar situation.
19:41So that's something I'm watching too, is this defense get winded in the second
19:44half. I've been in Tennessee. I've been in Nashville in the dead of August and
19:49September, and it is hot. Like cause is saying hot and humid, which is what's
19:53going to be Sunday. Uh, and it's, it's all about conditioning. Like you said, how
19:57these guys haven't gotten really any reps, they haven't played much this
20:00preseason. And this is their first real test of like, Hey, we're going full,
20:03full goal, 100, 100% speed. And I'm looking at guys like Tavondre sweat, you
20:09know, what's your conditioning level looking like? Uh, Kenyon Sadiq, obviously
20:13he's trying to get himself back into being real football shape, uh, after
20:16missing most of training camp. I don't think D'Angelo Pons is going to be
20:19playing much, uh, this weekend. I'd be surprised if he's playing. I mean,
20:23it wouldn't surprise me if he's inactive, honestly, Ryan. Yeah. And they
20:26didn't, they actually didn't practice Wednesday, but they, they have to issue
20:29an injury report and he was estimated as limited in the practice. So wouldn't
20:33shock me if he's inactive on Sunday. And I think you touched on the big
20:38thing that we're going to be paying attention to, right? Like you, you
20:40mentioned about how it's going to be about the line play, but really, you
20:43know, David Bailey, Will McDonald and Embari sweat Phillips, these
20:49guys have to be able to eat against a young quarterback who is learning a
20:52new offense. I think day ball is going to use the screen game a ton. I
20:56think he's going to try to get, you know, use the jets over
20:59aggressiveness, probably on the rush to, to get them for the big chunk
21:02plays Wanda Robinson. I'm looking forward to that matchup between him
21:05and Jarvis Brownlee jr. Um, and then I think ultimately, right. If
21:11David Bailey, who we spoke to last night on a gang's all here, and I
21:14suggest all jets fans, please go watch that interview. Just to see, just
21:18right. Just to see Frankie glaze David Bailey. Holy cow. He loves
21:24him. He's listen. He's the president of Bailey bros, uh, club, but I will
21:28say this. I came away so impressed with the man himself and he's such a
21:32young kid, but he, he, he cares himself so professionally. And when
21:36you, when I asked him about chasing down all these other quarterbacks
21:39he'll be going up against this year, he's like, my focus is just on cam
21:42ward this week, week one, we have a game plan against him. He's elusive. He
21:46can run. Uh, so I think they recognize like they're going up
21:50against the young guy. Like you said, he's interesting, but they
21:52know like, Hey, maybe we can force him into a couple of mistakes. If
21:55we get in his face and make him uncomfortable and make this a long
21:58game for him. Go ahead and say it, Ryan. Go ahead. For Bailey. Can
22:03they get an inter? What is it called? An interception? Is that what it's
22:07called? I forget. I can't remember. Ashton Davis feels like a long
22:10time ago. Intercepting, uh, the dolphins, right? It's been a while. It's
22:16been a while. It's crazy. It's been a while. Uh, I think, and I think
22:20what's cool is like, you're going to, if, if it does happen this weekend, I
22:24think you're going to see this team just like. Oh, they'll explode. They
22:28exploded in Pittsburgh with the interception. So that was a preseason
22:31game. So yeah, they're going to go crazy. If they get an interception,
22:33they're going to go nuts. They had to hear from me and all my friends for the
22:39months. They're so sick of us asking about the freaking interceptions. And I
22:42understand that they should explode if they get one. Um, Bailey. I mean, you
22:48talk to me cause I mean, you're saying the offensive line of Tennessee did not
22:51impress you. This feels like a prime spot for the kid, you know, week one.
22:55It's not, it's not the hardest landing spot, but Hey, deal with the heat, deal
22:59with the conditions. But if he can go out there and be a force, I mean, this
23:02could be a nice spot for him to, to, to debut in the NFL and show his real
23:06potential. Yeah. And even if he, like, if he doesn't get the sack himself,
23:10right? Like if he can draw attention that opens things up for other people, I
23:14can see that happen. And I do think Glenn's going to blitz, um, you know,
23:18can Bailey, if Bailey's drawing the extra attention from two people, does
23:22somebody get free and get home because of that? I think you can see that. I
23:26think the Titans will be very cognizant of David Bailey. Remember they had the
23:30number four pick, so they did a lot of work on him. They were, you know, they
23:34wasn't clear at the time if David Bailey was going to be available for them to
23:38pick. So they know him and they know the player and I know they like the
23:41player. Um, so they, they're going to be, they're going to know where he, where
23:46he is. Uh, they're, they're gonna be worried about him, but yeah, I think it's
23:49going to be, I think that the defensive line should have a good day. Do you think
23:54there's gonna be a lot of Jets fans here, Ryan? I do. I actually do. So I don't
23:58know if you saw the tweet going out, uh, the Titans season ticket holders and
24:02like, uh, front, like the box office people, from what I understand, they're
24:07putting tickets out in the market and they're seeing like a 40% dip in price
24:13from the, the, the actual sale of the ticket, the face value. So I think there's
24:17a lot of tickets open and I think there's going to be a lot of Jets fans
24:19invading. Yeah. I mean, it's a good trip. I know we're late to, if I know someone
24:23wants to make a last minute play and fly, but it's obviously Nashville is a fun
24:26city. So yeah, I have to think that a lot of opposing fans go to Nashville for
24:31that trip. It's, it's an easy flight too, from here. Um, you know, obviously
24:36excitement is high. So yeah, I'm, I would expect a lot of Jets fans to be in the
24:40building on Sunday. Uh, the Jets right now, I believe they are, they're 20, they,
24:46the Titans lead this all time series, 25, 21 and one the Jets. Oh, however, won four
24:51of the last five matchups against Tennessee. Most recently the Aaron Rogers game
24:55down in Tennessee, 24, 17, back in 2024. Um, and I think this will bring me to my
25:01fun part here. Cause speaking to David Bailey, this is my, uh, trivia for Mr.
25:06Costello here. Oh no, here we go. Cause who owns the record for the most sacks in a
25:13single game by a New York jet versus the Tennessee Titans. Wow. So this is just the
25:20Titans, not the Oilers, right? This counts as the Oilers as well.
25:24The Oilers too. They inherited the Oilers, but don't overthink it. I'm giving
25:27you a little hint. Don't overthink it. Okay. Most sacks. I'm trying to remember
25:34games recently. Um, Mark Gastineau. No, it was a great shot, but this player's
25:43still on the Jets roster. Will McDonald, three sacks. Oh, right. A couple of years
25:48ago. Yeah. Yeah. The one, I mean, the one was ridiculous, but yes, like tripped and he
25:51got a sack for that one. Yes. So he had three sacks in that 20, 24 week two game
25:56against the Titans. Uh, so that actually is the franchise record for most sacks in
26:00the game versus the Titans by a jet. Uh, and he's going to be going back down
26:03there. I mean, look, we'll, we'll pass rush ability. We know is, is, is strong,
26:07but, uh, and you've, you've discussed this though. Like, I don't know how much he's
26:12going to play like, but with everything I could see him maybe getting like, let's
26:17say with those side being out now, it kind of changes the equation a little bit. So
26:21I do think he'll play a little bit more, but like when they line up right to start
26:26the game, I think it's going to be ended barred on one side and David Bailey, the
26:29other, um, you know, that's, so I think will is going to be something in. And I
26:34think that's also like a thing that could happen too, is like, let's say the Jets
26:38are up. I don't know if somehow they're up two scores early in the game or, or later
26:42in the game, I could see them just throwing will out there a bunch and see if he
26:45can get some pressure on, on cam and just get after him at that point. Um,
26:51keys to victory cause new thing. I want to start here. What is your key for the
26:54Jets to actually get a victory this Sunday against the Titans?
26:59Oh, good question. Um, this is kind of a, like a obtuse answer, but I think it's
27:10going to be, can they make adjustments? Right. I think week one is all about
27:13adjustments because like we talked about before week one is just weird. All right.
27:19Like last year, the Raiders beat the Patriots in week one. Um, the Jets may have
27:25played their best game of the season last year in week one. They still lost, but
27:28they, they remember how good we sure did deals looked against the Steelers. So
27:33it's a weird one. Cause it's hard. You don't have a lot of film on them. Like
27:36you can study preseason, but that doesn't tell you much. And especially in this
27:40game with the new coaching staff. So can they adjust? Can they figure out what
27:44Sal's throwing at them and adjust to it? Can they figure out what Dables doing and
27:48adjust to it? That to me, and same thing for the Titans. Can they adjust to Glenn
27:52and Reich? Like you're not going to know what to expect and you're going to have
27:57to figure it out on the fly. Uh, and that to me is going to be the, the, the
28:02telling point of this game is, uh, who figures out what the other team is doing
28:07quickly and makes the adjustment. I think that's a good one. I think for
28:11me, uh, I'm going to get specific on the matchup. I think it's Myers and Tim
28:14in verse Jeffrey Simmons. Uh, we talked about before earlier, like they got to
28:19hold up. Like it doesn't have to be, you know, stall worth. Like you got to stop
28:23him every single pass rush. But if 85, 75% of the time you can hold up that rush
28:28against him and not let him get the serious pass rush on third down and Gino can
28:33get the ball off and get into the playmakers hands. I think the Jets should
28:37offensively actually have a good day. If that, that interior can hold up against
28:41Jeffrey Simmons. Cause Simmons is so dang good and he's going to, he can
28:44certainly blow it up. He can certainly blow up their day. Yes. That's yeah.
28:47You don't want that. I, you know, uh, he's, he's a very disruptive player for
28:52sure. No doubt. All right. Uh, cause let's do some over unders. Uh, I will take
28:57the spot of Frankie today since he is not here, but I'll go. Where's Frankie?
29:01Where is he? Uh, Frankie, where'd you go? You just left us hanging. He's probably,
29:06he was probably so giddy from that David Bailey interview. He probably didn't sleep
29:10last night. I don't think he slept. And I think he's still rewatching. He was rewatching
29:13it all night, uh, last night on the YouTube channel, but, uh, you're probably too young
29:17for this, but have you ever seen the Saturday live skit with, uh, Chris Farley interviewing
29:21Paul McCartney? I've never seen that one, but I've seen plenty of Chris Farley. Go YouTube.
29:27You, Chris Farley, Paul McCartney. And then they have a thing where Chris Farley's
29:30interviewing Paul McCartney. So like excited, like he's like a fan of the Beatles. And he just
29:35asked like, you know, Hey, like, remember, remember when you said like, I want to hold
29:41your hands. Like, did you mean that? And he is just like giddy, you know, asking for
29:46and he's like, girl, you're so stupid. You're so stupid. Frankie interviewing David Bailey
29:52reminded me of Chris Farley and Paul McCartney. I, I think that, I think you're spot on with
29:56your analysis there. Um, let's start with the quarterback though. Gino Smith. Uh, I got
30:03204 and a half pass yards, according to draft Kings. That's a good number. Cause that's what
30:07I was talking about before. I think it's going to be somewhere in the middle here. I don't think
30:10this is going to be a 330 yard passing day. Uh, I'll go over though. I am going to be
30:15slightly
30:15over. I think it'll be like 220, 230, somewhere in there. I think so too. I think you can hammer
30:21the over two and a 204 yards, uh, passing for Gino that day. And then if he's going to be
30:25throwing
30:26the ball to those guys, let's talk about Garrett Wilson, 60 and a half receiving yards. They got
30:30him over on the over on six. Yeah, I agree. I think they're going to have a nice day in
30:35the
30:35passing game. Uh, Mason Taylor. I want to talk about him. Cause we, you know, we had mentioned
30:39about Kenyan Sadiq, uh, Taylor, they have a 20 and a half receiving yards over. I smashed that over.
30:46I feel like that's, that's that could happen in one catch with Mason Taylor. Yes. Yeah. You know,
30:51and it wouldn't shock me if he gets that big catch, even if it's run after the catch. Yeah. I
30:55think
30:55they're going to be feeding the tight ends. I think, you know, I think that's going to be
30:59a popular plan here. This is something I've talked about before cause they've been terrible
31:05at attacking the middle of the field. It feels like these two guys can really unlock that
31:10potential. Like in the passing game, I'm talking about like attack the middle. Gino can Gino
31:15ask, you know, Gino is a factor in that too. You know, I just think Justin Fields was, was
31:19afraid of, afraid of doing that. No doubt. Uh, Brees Hall, they have him at 66 and a half
31:24rush yards. Hmm. I'll go under on that one. Right. Okay. I'm going to go with the over
31:34again. I, this is going to lead into the predictions here, but I, I do think that the jets are
31:40going
31:40to have a good day on offense. I think this might be like a repeat of week one last year,
31:44but with a win, let's hope. Uh, there was no Zay, Zay, no Xavier Gibson this time. Yeah, no, no.
31:51Thank
31:51God. Um, final score predictions. Let's hear it cause jets, Titans week one, the jets are one
31:57and a half point dog on the road in Tennessee. I've been back and forth and all over on this
32:04game, Ryan. I have no idea what to expect. None. Like you could tell me jets are going to run
32:10close
32:10one. That's okay. Titans going to run close to it. Okay. Jets win by a lot. I'd say, okay. I
32:15don't
32:16think the Titans would win by a lot. I guess that one would surprise me. Uh, but I'm going to
32:22give
32:22the edge here to the Titans being at home, Ryan. And I think the Sala, I think Sala and Dable
32:28are
32:28going to coach their butts off in this game. Cause I think this is like going to be their Superbowl.
32:33Um, and I know we've talked about like the jets need this game. The Titans need this game too.
32:37When the jets come to town, that's a game teams think they should win, but I do think it'll
32:42be close. I'm going to go Titans 24 jets 20. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. I can just imagine
32:54how Monday is going to be with jets fans. I'm not usually right. So you were good last year
33:02picking games, by the way, you led the show in a show predictions. Uh, last year was not
33:07that challenging. This is true. I want, once we got past the initial wave of the beginning
33:14of the season, Ryan, if you sensed it. Yes. Yeah. So Kaz went 12 and four last year, Frankie
33:1810 and six, I went 11 and five. Um, look, I, I think I got to end this episode with
33:24something
33:24you had started with. This is a must win for Aaron Glenn and the New York jets. Oh, you're
33:30on the must win train. It is a must win. I fully believe in that narrative. Aaron Glenn will
33:35probably poo poo it as much as possible, obviously for him, but this jets team, the
33:41players, I think Garrett Wilson has speaking the truth there. They know they got a win for
33:45their coach. They got to go out there and prove themselves that they can actually be competent
33:50on both sides of the football, play a compliment, complimentary football game. The Titans are
33:54rebuilding. Like let's be real. Like they, they have a young quarterback that they want to
33:58believe in, but it's a brand new, new coaching staff for them. It's a new offense. Their offensive
34:03line really is not good. This jets defensive line should be one of their strengths. If they
34:07reach their full potential, I think they should be in cam words backfield all day and making
34:13it a rough day for him offensively. And I think Gino Smith is actually going to have a really
34:18good day against the Titans. Again, it's going to come down to that, that offensive line, holding
34:22up to that pass rush from the Titans. But I think Gino's got plenty of weapons to distribute
34:26the ball. We're going to see some fun plays from Mason Taylor. You're not be surprised
34:30the Kenyan city catches a couple of screen passes. Garrett Wilson's going to eat. I think
34:34Adnan Mitchell could have a big day. I'm, I'm picking the jets big here. Cause I think
34:38the jets are going to win 20, 24, 10 over the Titans. I got the jets with a big win
34:43and
34:44Aaron Glenn can puff his chest out a little bit and say, Hey man, this is what I can do.
34:49This is what I can bring. We beat the teams we're supposed to beat. Obviously the Titans
34:52probably feel the same way about the jets, but this is, this is a must win. The jets
34:56have to win this football game. It's week one. They don't have to win. I know it feels
35:05that way, but they, they've got, they've got 16 more games after this one. The NFC
35:09North gauntlet is coming in weeks two through four. It's going to be tough those next three
35:15weeks after this. Yes, but crazy things happen in the NFL. So I know you never know. You never
35:21know. All right. So I do have to ask you one final thing before we leave, because I think
35:26this is something that has been gone a little bit under the radar and we haven't talked nearly
35:32enough about it. The kicking situation. Yeah. Where is this going week one? I think group
35:38will be the kicker. I know, you know, I asked him Tuesday and he said, Oh, there's a competition.
35:43They'll figure out what like, come on. They, they can't roll Jason Sanders out there. There's
35:46a reason group he's here. They, they brought him in for a reason. He's going to kick Sunday. I'd
35:50be shocked. You know, if he's not kicking Sunday that then there's real problems. Cause that
35:54means he's been missing in practice or something. So I think you'll see groupie and we'll see
35:58like he had some success in new Orleans and Indianapolis. And you know, I'm not, I wouldn't
36:04be too worried about Sunday that my question for him is, you know, kicking at that life
36:10when it gets windy and cold and that kind of stuff. He's been, he kicked at Notre Dame.
36:14So he, it's like, it's not like he's never kicked in cold weather, but he's been a dome
36:18kicker in the NFL, uh, for his home team. So, uh, I have questions there. Um, I, you
36:24know, we've talked about, I think letting Nick folk go was a mistake. Uh, this would
36:30not shock me if this is like a four kicker year they've already been through. I mean,
36:35you remember when young, he who was here, Ryan, like they've already been through like
36:40five kickers this off season. It's pretty crazy. When you think about it, like the, the
36:44the guy, the free agent from BYU, they signed, they got rid of him quick. Like
36:49they've, they've been through a lot of different guys already. So we'll see, you
36:53know, but I think group is next man up and oh yeah. Can you imagine if this comes
36:56down to a kick? That's just, that would, again, it would, it would be on Aaron Glenn
37:03and Darren Mugi for not addressing this kicker situation in the off season. I mean,
37:07and the other one, the other one, Ryan is how nervous are you? We watched, I'm sure you
37:11watched last night, right? Sam Donald goes down five plays into the game. Is
37:17every Jets fan thinking, is it, what if Katie Klubnik has to come in five plays
37:20into the season? You know, cause I'm not too, I'm not too old to not remember the
37:25Jets last time they actually won a season opener was Aaron Rodgers four plays and
37:31that's it. So it wouldn't shock me again. We're, we're looking for the answer, the
37:38final answer, I would say on Aaron Glenn, right? Like learn something about him.
37:41This year. Uh, and if he can actually be a head coach, those are the answers he
37:45needs to provide to, to you in the media and me as a fan. Um, they chose to go
37:51with, you know, Kate Klubnik as their backup. So they have to live with those
37:56decisions. And yeah, I will say this arrived. The Klubnik thing is also on
38:00Darren Mugi, right? Yeah, absolutely. That's not, that's not an Aaron Glenn
38:03decision alone. That's, that was an organizational decision. So Mugi has to answer
38:07for that as well. He's, he's the one putting the personnel together. He's the
38:12one who went into training camp with Bailey Zappi and Brady Cook being the other,
38:15only other alternatives. So yeah, they both will wear that one if it doesn't work
38:20out. No doubt. No doubt. Cause we appreciate you hopping on here. Uh, we're
38:24looking forward to your coverage. Have fun in Tennessee state, stay cool. And, uh,
38:28we'll talk to you next week as we, uh, do some actual NFL analysis. If anyone
38:33sees Frankie out there, tell them, tell them the call where we miss him. All
38:38right. Thanks guys. See ya.
