00:00The New York Jets get their second victory of the season, defeating the Cleveland Browns
00:0527 to 20.
00:07Welcome to the Gangs All Here postgame live show.
00:08I'm Ryan Sampson.
00:09That's my guy, Frankie Viteriti from U Stadium.
00:11We're here to talk about it as the Jets get another victory after the trade deadline.
00:16I called it earlier this day.
00:17I texted Frankie around like 11 a.m. around noon, said, you know what?
00:22Jets are getting their second victory today, man.
00:24You're five of six with those calls in the last two years.
00:26I'm kidding.
00:26No, you're five of six.
00:27Seriously, you're four of five.
00:28You're five of six.
00:30Frankie's keeping track of it.
00:31But look, this is Aaron Glenn's legacy game here, man.
00:34He had to get the victory today after considering all things.
00:37They traded away sauce and Quinn and Williams.
00:41And you know what?
00:42I'll give credit to the defense.
00:43And we can start there, Frankie, with this Jets defense.
00:45Six sacks totals, I think, today.
00:48Four by Will McDonald.
00:50An incredible, incredible output by this Jets defense, which started off really, really slow.
00:56But then I think they really turned it on the second half.
00:59Absolutely, man.
01:00Shout outs to Will McDonald.
01:01You know what?
01:02Ryan, I'm going to give my flowers early today.
01:04Am I allowed to do that?
01:05Of course.
01:05I'm giving my flowers to Will McDonald, man.
01:07Will McDonald today tied a Jets single game record for sacks in a game.
01:12Last time, a Jet player had four sacks in a game.
01:14And John Abraham, my old favorite Jet.
01:17Yeah, I loved him too, man.
01:19Yeah, yeah.
01:19Until that game where he sat out against the Raiders because he had the flu.
01:23But we don't need to talk about that.
01:25That was 2001.
01:26So it's been over 20 years, almost 25 years since the Jet players had four sacks.
01:32Mark Gastineau did it twice.
01:34Shout outs to Mark Gastineau.
01:35But yeah, Will McDonald and that Jets defense, man, you know what?
01:38They played hard today.
01:39And that's the theme I think we could take from today's game.
01:42I don't think they were perfect.
01:44I think there were more opportunities that maybe Cleveland didn't take advantage of versus
01:49that we actually took from them.
01:51I think they made a lot of mistakes.
01:52Cleveland on offense had some drops, some bad reads, et cetera.
01:56But the Jets defense, man, all day was getting after it.
01:59Jermaine had a sack late there.
02:01And without Quinn and Williams, who people thought was clearly our best defensive player.
02:07And he probably was.
02:08But without him on the front line there, they did a pretty good job at stopping the run.
02:13I would say.
02:14Yeah.
02:15You know, Quinchon Judkins, who had some nice runs, but he had 22 carries for really only
02:2075 yards, which isn't that much.
02:23Yeah.
02:233.4 yards a carry.
02:24You take Dylan Gabriel's runs out of there and some of Malachi Corley's stuff.
02:28Cleveland really didn't do much on the ground like we expected.
02:32Shout outs to that Jets defense all day.
02:34Tony Adams led the team in tackles.
02:35You know, Woody Johnson's favorite player there.
02:38He had nine yards one day.
02:40Quincy Williams had some big plays, added a sack himself.
02:44And man, listen, we'll get into this.
02:47I know a lot of people are rooting for the Jets to lose to get a higher draft pick.
02:51Listen, the Saints won today.
02:53The Dolphins won today.
02:54It's week freaking nine.
02:56Can we hold our horses when it comes to wanting this team to lose out and do whatever?
03:01We don't know what's going to happen yet.
03:03Nobody has a clue what's going to happen.
03:05Let the games play out.
03:06Then you can make decisions as to where you think this team, what this team needs to do
03:10come week 14 or 15.
03:12It's way too early.
03:13I completely agree with you, Frankie.
03:14I think it's way too early to start looking at the tank-a-thon.
03:17I know it's in the back of everyone's minds, the front of every Jets fan's mind, because
03:21there really isn't much else to root for in this team.
03:23But you know what?
03:24They went out and won a football game today.
03:26And they beat a team that was just as bad, if not worse, than them.
03:29And is not being run well, and is currently going through a lot in terms of how their
03:32season's going.
03:34So you have to give credit to Aaron Glenn and the staff today for toughing it out, like
03:38you said.
03:38I thought I could not agree with you more.
03:40The Jets defense was tough.
03:42They played strong.
03:43They stopped the run.
03:45Really no explosive plays from the running game.
03:48And then it was just the passing game where they struggled a little bit.
03:50Even with Asri Thomas going out early, who you could argue was your better corner between
03:55him and Stevens, because Stevens gives up that touchdown to Jerry Judy.
04:00Jets held in.
04:01They held their own.
04:03Dylan Gabriel had a couple scrambles, like you said.
04:05Didn't really do much in the passing game besides the first half and that one touchdown
04:09drive that they had.
04:11For me, this is all about Will McDonald and the fact that he had a coming out game today.
04:16Four sacks.
04:17Think about Will McDonald's season, Frankie, this year and what he's done in year three
04:22with this Jets defense.
04:23I know Kaz has said a lot, like, where's Will McDonald?
04:26Where's his plays been?
04:27Well, it's been two signature games now.
04:30We cannot forget about week three, right?
04:33Against the Bucs.
04:34Was it week three or week two?
04:36Week three.
04:37It was week three against the Bucs.
04:39Blocks the field goal.
04:41Returns the field goal for a touchdown.
04:43That was an insane play.
04:45Plays that very few players in the NFL can make.
04:48And then he comes back this week in week 10 after the trade deadline, after his defensive
04:52line mate in Quentin Williams, an absolute stud, a guy who eats up the run game and is
04:58supposed to give you plenty of pass rush in the middle and really wasn't.
05:01He comes out today and just dominates Cam Robinson, dominates the Browns offensive line
05:06for sacks.
05:07He was in the backfield all day long.
05:09And that is an all-time performance right there from Will McDonald.
05:12And like you said, John Abraham, when your name's getting mentioned along in those names,
05:18it's a pretty special day.
05:20Absolutely, man.
05:21And I also think we have to give a little bit of credit, too, to a player who's been
05:24kind of dragged a little bit this year in Jamie and Sherwood.
05:27Jamie and Sherwood had a good game, man.
05:29Jamie and Sherwood would fit often in this game.
05:32He seemed to be knowing where he was going.
05:34He was in the right spot most of the time.
05:35He had a really nice play in coverage where he was, you know, strive for strive with the
05:40receiver on a crossing route there.
05:41I think it was Judy.
05:43But Jamie and Sherwood had a very good game.
05:46That Jets defense being down their two best players via trade in Sauce and Quentin, they
05:52came out and they played exactly the kind of game they needed to play.
05:55In the NFL, you can give up points, but what you need to do is you have to force the quarterback
06:00into, you know, making bad decisions or into sacks.
06:04And the Jets today had six sacks.
06:05And listen, that Cleveland offensive line, they're nothing special, but they got some
06:09quality guys up front there.
06:11They have Batonio.
06:12They have Conklin.
06:13They have some guys up front.
06:15The Jets, they got after them.
06:17And I'm sure we're going to get into the offense, but the defense as a whole is a reason why this
06:22team won today.
06:23We'll get into the special teams.
06:25They probably are another big reason.
06:27But football, there's three facets to a game, right?
06:29You know, offense, defense, and special teams.
06:31If you win two of the three, coaches say you win the football game.
06:35And the Jets today won on defense and won on special teams.
06:38Yeah, no doubt, Frankie.
06:39I also think it was fascinating that the narrative about this Jets defense and the fact that they've
06:46been really, really poor.
06:47And look, the Cleveland Browns offense is not lighting the world on fire right now with
06:51Dylan Gabriel.
06:52So you're not going to go home and say, hey, we have 20 points to the Cleveland Browns.
06:58We should be really excited.
06:59It's like, okay, Cleveland's a bottom third of the league offense right now.
07:03But you held them to 20 points in the second half.
07:07I think they held them to three points.
07:09They held them to three points.
07:10Just that field goal in the entire second half.
07:13So you got to give, like you said, Sherwood had a really good game, I thought, too.
07:17Quincy had a nice couple of couple of plays again, maybe in that reduced role for him at
07:21linebacker.
07:22Maybe that's that's better off for this Jets team.
07:24I don't know.
07:24They're better against the run when he's not out there against the run.
07:28So look, if there's something you could say that's positive is the Jets defense had a
07:33much better day than they had the previous weeks.
07:36And if they can build upon this and find out what they got in guys like Malachi Moore and
07:41Asri Thomas Briggs, I thought, had a couple of nice rushes today.
07:45Will McDonald, if he can keep developing, Jermaine was a lot better today coming off an Achilles
07:49injury.
07:50So keep taking steps forward, man.
07:52Be a strong defensive unit like you have been, even without sauce and Quinnen.
07:57That's damn impressive to win a football game today and hold an opponent to 20 points
08:00and three total in the second half.
08:02So let's flip it to the offensive side of the ball, Frankie.
08:05Wow.
08:07Yeah, there's there's a lot here.
08:09I'll go.
08:09I'll just lead it off.
08:11Woof.
08:12Woof for Justin Fields.
08:14You're not going to win many football games.
08:16In fact, the Jets wouldn't have won today if it wasn't for special teams in defense, because
08:22Justin Fields was giving you absolutely nothing, nothing in the passing game.
08:27So your thoughts about what the Jets offense did today?
08:30Dude, it's hard to win a football game when you have one passing first down.
08:34Right.
08:34If I told you the Jets score 27 points today did not score on defense.
08:39Right.
08:40And they had one passing first down.
08:42You would say there's no way.
08:43Wow.
08:44In hell, that's possible.
08:45Put that in perspective.
08:47And it's not like we really ran the ball down their throats.
08:50I mean, we had some nice runs in the second half.
08:52Brees had a pretty good game, specifically in the second half.
08:55But, yeah, we really did nothing passing-wise.
08:59You're 6 of 11, 54 yards around, what?
09:04We had 20 yards total in net passing.
09:08It was not a pretty day for the Jets passing the football.
09:13But with that being said, hey, you did just enough, man.
09:17You did just enough.
09:18That one passing first down, you know what that was, right?
09:20That was that screen pass to Brees Hall that went for 42 yards in the tutty.
09:24That's it sometimes.
09:26You had two miraculous returns in that they, literally the Jets and NFL in their history,
09:33have never had a kickoff and punt return in the same football game touchdowns.
09:38It's the first time since 2017 a team's done that.
09:41And the last time a team had a kickoff return touchdown followed by a punt return was 2011 touchdown.
09:48Man, passing offense did nothing.
09:50Garrick a little hobbled.
09:52But, hey, the only play that Fields had in terms of passing for a first down
09:57was the only play they really needed, that 42-yard screen to Brees, which was dialed up perfectly.
10:02Wow.
10:02Yep, Tittman's out there getting the big boy in space.
10:05Tittman's good when he's out in space.
10:07Get the boy moving.
10:08Get the hogs moving down the field, they say.
10:12So, hey, man, that's all that they needed.
10:15Brees put together a really good game, though.
10:17Really good.
10:18Really good game.
10:20Smart game, too.
10:20You saw at the end when he's sliding inbounds, not giving them an opportunity, Cleveland,
10:25to get the ball back.
10:26So, shout outs to Brees there, too.
10:27Dude, even on that first play on that drive for the Jets to end the game there,
10:31he takes that for a 12-yard run.
10:34Getting a first down on that first play is so – I can't tell you how huge that is
10:38for you as an offense and for as a team to secure the victory is you just got a first down,
10:43and now the Browns are like, oh, now we have to burn all of our timeouts.
10:47I do want to ask you, what the heck was that play call on fourth down?
10:51And they get them to jump offside, right, for the encroach.
10:54But, like, what was that?
10:56The neutral zone infraction, Frankie.
10:58Why were they going for that on the fourth and five at their own 49?
11:02You're giving the ball back to the Browns with 59 seconds left if you don't get that first down
11:07or if you don't get that penalty.
11:09I have no idea.
11:11I really don't.
11:12I don't know.
11:12Were they – I don't know if they wanted to snap it.
11:15So, you think they were just going for the offsides?
11:17That's it?
11:18I think they – yeah.
11:19That was the only reason.
11:20Of course, yeah.
11:21All right.
11:21I'm just making sure because –
11:23They were going to set up a play there.
11:24I don't know why they even tried to get in there.
11:26It actually worked.
11:27I mean, like, you have to be one of the dumbest football players in the world to go offsides.
11:32It was 99 on Cleveland who got called for encroachment.
11:36I mean, that's crazy.
11:37You can never do that in an NFL game.
11:39But, yeah, I don't think they were – they weren't going to snap it, Ry.
11:43I don't think.
11:44I mean, maybe.
11:44But, no, they weren't going to.
11:46I mean, I can't believe the Browns jumped offsides there.
11:49That was just crazy.
11:51Yeah.
11:53Overall, though, Brees Hall, like you said, an amazing day for him.
11:57Some cuts he made were awesome.
11:59The screen pass, taking that to the house.
12:01That's the home run hitter he is.
12:02And that's what this offense needs is plays like that.
12:05And they got to lean on the run game.
12:07Like, that's what's frustrating right now.
12:08And I think Connor Rodgers made a great tweet, and I sent that to you.
12:11And I agree with him 100%.
12:13If you're not going to tailor this offense to Fields running the football,
12:16which the Jets did not do in the first half or most of the third quarter as well,
12:20what's the point?
12:22Just put Tyrod Taylor in because your offense is more tailored around him.
12:26No pun intended, but it is.
12:28And Justin Fields had seven rushes for 28 yards.
12:32I think most of them were scrambles.
12:33There's like two read options, I think, total.
12:34I counted maybe three at the most.
12:36But if you're not using his legs as a weapon for this offense,
12:41this offense isn't tailored for a typical –
12:43well, I shouldn't say typical.
12:45It's made for a typical drop-back quarterback,
12:47and that is not Justin Fields' specialty.
12:49Yeah, yeah, there's a couple good comments here.
12:52Shout-outs to the chat gang.
12:53Somebody said, Tanner doesn't know what to do with Fields.
12:58I'll respond to that, right?
12:59I don't think anybody knows what to do with Fields.
13:02And I think the reason why nobody knows what to do with Justin Fields is
13:04Justin Fields should not be a starting quarterback in the NFL right now.
13:08He should not.
13:10He is deficient at passing the football.
13:12I'm not going to crap on him in a win.
13:14You win a football game.
13:16Move on.
13:17But he's not ready to run a passing offense.
13:20He's just not.
13:21Now, you're right.
13:21I think, Ryan, they try to come in with a game plan.
13:24They try to see what they can do.
13:26They probably – and if I look at the All-22,
13:29I mean, if you look at the All-22 tomorrow,
13:30I bet you will see them in a lot of personnel, Cleveland's defense,
13:36that's really stacking that box, not allowing us to establish a run.
13:40I think you saw in the second half, things started opening up
13:43as we had a few more plays in general, both running and passing,
13:48that allowed us to kind of do a little bit more.
13:51But they were stacking that box in the first half,
13:53and they couldn't do anything.
13:54I think they want to do these plays.
13:56They want to run more read option.
13:58But I don't even think they can.
14:00They're going to want Justin Fields to throw the ball.
14:02Like, if you're playing the Jets, what are you going to do defensively?
14:05Cleveland's got the second-best defense in football rank.
14:07They're probably the best defense in football overall.
14:11What are you going to do?
14:12They're going to come in and want to stop you from running the ball,
14:15so they're going to force you to throw it.
14:17Tanner does not trust Justin Fields to throw the football.
14:19No.
14:19And that's been a team.
14:21I don't think he trusts himself to throw the football.
14:23Perfectly said.
14:23Yeah.
14:24I don't think so either.
14:25Yeah.
14:26He doesn't.
14:26He's not even trying.
14:27He threw his first pick today.
14:29Good.
14:29It was a bad read on his part.
14:31He didn't see that zone coverage, that linebacker underneath.
14:35But listen, that is what it is, man.
14:37Like, he's just not able to confidently be a quarterback in today's NFL.
14:42You're not expecting him to deliver the football.
14:45And that's a problem, man.
14:47That's a big problem.
14:48It's a massive problem.
14:49I mean, how many times were we texting each other's screenshots of the box score for fields?
14:53You know, two for seven, three for five, whatever the hell it is.
14:57And it's for five yards, seven yards.
14:58And you're like, third quarter's almost over.
15:01What the hell are we doing here?
15:02You can't throw the ball downfield.
15:03If you become a one-dimensional offense, you're never going to win football games.
15:06The Jets won today because of the two special teams' returns for touchdown.
15:10Do not get this fooled.
15:13And credit to the special teams.
15:14The Jets' special teams has been a lot better since those fumbles in Miami.
15:17Definitely.
15:18All around.
15:19And Guanu coming back on the kickoff return.
15:21That guy is special returning the football.
15:22I think Isaiah Williams has actually become very, very good at the punt return game after a rough game in Miami where he fumbled it, right?
15:29Or I think he caught it within the five.
15:31And you're like, what the hell is this guy doing?
15:33But they need to get to some kind of passing offense, though.
15:37You cannot be in today's NFL without some kind of element of being able to throw the football, though.
15:42And I agree with you, Frankie.
15:43We'll probably see all 22 of the Browns defense just stacking the box against the Jets' run.
15:48But, again, that just shows you how good Brees Hall was today and how good I thought the offensive line was today, too.
15:55You know, I think the fact that you held Miles Garrett in this Browns defense only to three sacks on 11 dropbacks.
16:02Okay.
16:03Not great.
16:04But at the end of the day, though, Miles Garrett wasn't a difference maker in this game.
16:08And that's a win for the Jets' offensive line, if we're being honest.
16:11Yeah.
16:12And the one sack that Miles Garrett did have, that sack on Olu.
16:16Man, I was telling people, that is a tough play.
16:19That's a tough ask to ask for your left tackle.
16:21I mean, field is taking the ball and he's rolling out right.
16:26Garrett is just taking a clear path with a lot of leverage to the outside.
16:30Olu, you got to just run with the guy at that point and just get a body on him.
16:34You can't expect a traditional pass at there.
16:37That's just Miles Garrett being Miles Garrett.
16:39It really is.
16:40Listen, we didn't throw the ball enough today where I can make a conclusion, right?
16:44If this offensive line or these tackles really neutralized Miles Garrett, I would say they did to a degree.
16:50I don't think that Cleveland D line, which was considered one of the best in football, really did much today.
16:55But I don't know.
16:56We didn't do enough on offense.
16:59We didn't have enough snaps in the passing game where I'm, you know, confidently saying, oh, I mean, that rush, we control them all game.
17:05We can't really say that at this point.
17:07But they won a football game.
17:09And that last drive, Ryan, those last couple drives when you're moving the ball methodically and Brees Hall's getting involved.
17:16And it seems like we have the advantage.
17:20We're taking this game.
17:21What are you guys going to do about it?
17:22We're going to run the ball.
17:23What are you going to do about it?
17:23When you're getting runs like that consistently, that's something to look forward to.
17:27And that starts up front with the O-line.
17:29The O-line was clearly getting movement on those last couple drives, which allowed Brees to spring off.
17:33And you win a football game that way.
17:35These are the little things that this team wasn't doing in the first three or four weeks of the season that they're doing now.
17:41They're finishing drives.
17:42They're finishing games.
17:43They're, you know, sacking the quarterback.
17:45They're hiding fields still, but they're doing it a little bit more effectively, potentially, because you're winning games.
17:52And that's it.
17:53When you win a football game, you're not shining the light on all this negative stuff out there.
17:58And trust me, there was.
18:00Cleveland was penalized a bunch today, too.
18:03We got some nice calls on our end.
18:05We haven't actually been out penalized now, it seems like, for weeks.
18:08It seems like every team we've been playing the last month or so actually is getting more penalties than we are.
18:14And by the way, I just want to correct myself.
18:15It was Ronnie Hickman that got the pick.
18:17I think he was playing linebacker, though.
18:19That pick on Fields, I think he came up in a linebacker zone.
18:23But that was his own coverage.
18:24His own coverage, and they doubled up on the Garrett Wilson route.
18:28I mean, look, I wonder if they – it's a short week coming up against the Patriots.
18:33I don't think they're going to pull the trigger on Justin, but it wouldn't shock me if they have a short leash for him this week, Frankie.
18:38And if, again, the offense does absolutely nothing in the passing game, I do wonder if they go to tie rod quickly.
18:44Because a lot of people, including myself, were texting you like, you've got to go to tie rod here at halftime.
18:50The offense was doing absolutely nothing until that Brees Hall screen pass.
18:54I mean, it was dead in water.
18:56And if they don't get those two – again, if they don't get the kickoff return and they don't get the punt return for touchdowns, both of them, which has never happened in Jets history, mind you, Jets fans.
19:07If they don't get that, this game's over.
19:10And the Jets aren't – they're not running the ball with Brees.
19:12They're not getting the ball to Brees' hands.
19:14And you're looking at a really ugly loss to the Cleveland Browns today.
19:17So, Jets special teams picked him up in a big way today.
19:20And the Jets' rushing attack finally broke loose a couple with Brees.
19:24So, those are the two big takeaways, I would say, in terms of the offense for me.
19:30Are you concerned about Garrett Wilson getting hurt again with the same knee injury after he comes back?
19:35Really, this was supposed to be a longer injury, they said.
19:37And now he's back out there and he gets hurt today.
19:41I wonder if they shut him down for the year.
19:42What do you think?
19:44Well, you see on that route that he ran, at the end of that route, when he came up short, he hit his knee on the turf.
19:52So, that sometimes might activate something with your ligaments or something that's a little strained.
19:58So, the fact that he hit the turf with his knee is not as concerning as if he just pulled up and it was sort of non-contact.
20:06That's a little bit more of a contact injury, not by another player, but by the turf.
20:10So, I am a little concerned.
20:13I'm sure they're going to do some testing and if they need to give him another MRI, I'm sure they won't hesitate on giving him one.
20:19But what was more concerning than that, Rye, was our inability to get him the ball today.
20:24I mean, he didn't catch a ball today.
20:27Now, granted, he left the game in the second half, but he wasn't, you know, he wasn't a factor.
20:33You targeted him three times and you can't get him the ball.
20:36Well, that's on Justin Fields and it's a little bit on Tanner Engstrom.
20:38I see some people saying, you got to blame the OC a little bit.
20:42Of course, I'm not.
20:43I'm not.
20:43He's not.
20:44He was not good today.
20:45He was not good today.
20:46But he's also handcuffed with Justin Fields, man.
20:48I know.
20:48Trust me, it's very difficult in today's NFL to call a game when your quarterback is the worst passer out of any starter in football.
20:59He just says he's 32 out of 32 starters that are playing besides the bye.
21:03No, I know they're passing offenses dead last in football, but that's where I'm trying to say what Connor's saying.
21:10And I agree with your offense isn't tailored for him.
21:13So take him out.
21:14I know if you're Aaron Glenn, pull the trigger right now for the short week.
21:18Like you're playing all these dumb games.
21:20Like who's the starting quarterback?
21:21It's like, we know it's going to be Justin because you invested all this money in him, but you've seen enough in 10 weeks.
21:26It's like, let's go.
21:28You're winning games without him.
21:30You're literally winning football games without Justin Fields.
21:32Like last week was the two weeks ago.
21:34It was the Bengals.
21:35The Bengals have the worst defense I think I've ever seen in my life.
21:39Their offense is literally telling him to F off in the locker room after a game.
21:44So I give no credence to what Justin Fields did against that Bengals defense in that game.
21:50And let's not forget, that was an all-time Brees Hall performance bailing him out again.
21:55So in reality, you're winning football games in spite of your quarterback who can't throw the football.
22:00He's afraid to throw it downfield.
22:02He had Arian Smith wide open down the seam when the safety bit on Garrett Wilson on the crosser.
22:07And you're wondering, pull the trigger.
22:09And they're on the broadcast.
22:11And I'm like, why isn't Justin throwing the ball to the least like Arian Smith?
22:14Give your guys a chance downfield.
22:16And you barely used your tight ends in the passing game today, too.
22:19What was that about?
22:20I don't like, look.
22:21I know we're going to see some of these guys are locked up cover-wise, which is fine.
22:26But there's no way, Tanner Inkstrom's not drawing up some plays, that there's guys running open downfield.
22:31And Justin just either isn't seeing it, recognizing it, or he's afraid to pull the trigger.
22:36All of the above.
22:36It's just, it's a game that I am not encouraged by the offense at all.
22:44Like, it's great to win today.
22:46It was fun.
22:47Like, it was actually a fun game to watch.
22:49In other aspects, besides the offense, if that makes sense, Frankie.
22:54Like, it was fun to watch the defense.
22:55What were you watching?
22:57Well, I'm just saying, Will McDonald was fun to watch ball out.
22:59The defense was fun to watch ball out in the second half.
23:02The special teams was fun to see those plays.
23:05But the offense was a, it was a slug.
23:09It was a slug fest.
23:09It was just, I don't know.
23:10It was sloppy.
23:12You want a crazy stat?
23:14Go ahead.
23:15What Jets receiver led the team in receiving today?
23:17It was Brees.
23:19Well, outside of Brees.
23:21Wide receiver, I'm saying.
23:22Wide receiver.
23:23Was it Isaiah Williams?
23:24Yes.
23:25How many yards?
23:26Eight.
23:27Less.
23:28Six.
23:29Less.
23:29Four yards.
23:30So our leading wide receiver today had one catch for four yards.
23:34Mason Taylor had one catch for four yards.
23:37John Mechie had one catch for three yards.
23:39Isaiah Davis had one catch for one yard.
23:42But Brees Hall had one catch for 42 yards.
23:45So, listen, it is a miracle to a degree they won this game.
23:50This is another miraculous kind of win because when you have one passing first down, which was a screenplay to Brees, who just, Brees is, like you say, he's a home run hitter.
24:01You hit a bomb.
24:03This was a game you won.
24:04You know, you won 2-1 in baseball and you hit a, you know, bottom nine home run with Brees.
24:11Man, you don't win football games like this.
24:13That's those special teams touchdowns.
24:15That was a difference.
24:16That is, in football, when you have a play like that, that can swing the pendulum.
24:21You have two like that.
24:22Two, call them lucky touchdowns or call them non-offensive touchdowns.
24:25When you have one, you're heavily favored in the NFL.
24:29When you have two, it's almost a lock when both teams are evenly matched up coming into the game.
24:36We didn't need to do anything passing-wise.
24:38Really?
24:39They didn't even run the ball that well in the first half either, right?
24:42It's like the first half, Fields had negative five net.
24:45We didn't really have much going on on the ground.
24:47But, hey, man, football is not a sport that the box score always tells the whole story.
24:55There's plays.
24:56There's moments.
24:57There's momentum swings that are unaccounted for.
25:00You look at Cleveland.
25:02They had 158 yards rushing.
25:04Their quarterback threw two touchdowns.
25:06They had Jerry Judy, who had a pretty good game.
25:09Shout-outs to me and you for dropping him in fantasy this week.
25:1178 yards and a touchdown.
25:12But we only needed one play, and Brees Hall delivered.
25:18And that's the reason why, for all the fans out there.
25:21I know the pro-tanking community.
25:24They're like, we should have traded Brees.
25:26We would have lost today if we did.
25:28Yeah, you're right.
25:29We would have lost today if we traded Brees for a fourth-rounder.
25:32If we took that rumored deal, which Kaz shut down.
25:37Kaz shut it down.
25:38I believe him.
25:38It was Kansas City.
25:40They apparently offered a fourth-rounder.
25:42I don't buy it.
25:43If Kaz doesn't say it, I don't buy it.
25:45But, yeah.
25:46I mean, it was a weird game to judge.
25:49The defense, though, made all the difference.
25:51Because Phil McDonald doesn't have a sack there.
25:54Jermaine Johnson doesn't get a sack there late.
25:57Maybe they had – the quarterback has an extra, you know, tenth or two-tenths of a second
26:03to be able to get the ball out to a crosser.
26:05This defense can't guard against crossers for more than, you know, a few seconds.
26:10So, it's on the pass rush.
26:12This is the best the pass rush has looked all year.
26:14All year.
26:15Absolutely.
26:16And, listen, I'm not pointing any fingers here, but, you know, I think with Quinnen not
26:22there on third down specifically, I think they like to do a lot more stunts.
26:27I see Jermaine doing a lot more stunts.
26:29They're not one-gapping or having a two-gap with a nose tackle.
26:32They can do a lot more things.
26:34They're more flexible up front.
26:35Quinnen's not a flexible de-tackle.
26:37He's a one technique.
26:38You're not putting Quinnen on the outside.
26:40He's a big boy.
26:40He plays up front.
26:41Sometimes having a little bit of diversity up front allows you to kind of get guys that
26:46need it, like Jermaine Johnson and maybe Will, to be able to get cooking.
26:49Now, I'm not saying if Quinnen played today, they wouldn't have had a great rush.
26:53I'm not saying that at all.
26:53But sometimes when you're able to go to more guys and you can do a few more unique things
26:59that I think these edges specifically need to do.
27:03I told you this on our preview show.
27:05Jermaine is better when he's stunting.
27:08And you saw him.
27:09When he's looping in and they're looping the de-tackle out, which Quinnen's not going to do,
27:14things can change a little bit.
27:15But, yeah, I mean, it definitely was different, their pass rush today.
27:21Now, you could say it was the Cleveland Browns offensive line not being very good.
27:24Dylan Gabriel holds the ball a little too long.
27:26They probably don't have the best weapons that get open downfield besides Judy.
27:30So there's a lot of factors there.
27:32But at the end of the day, they were able to get a lot of pressure on him.
27:36And the six sacks is six sacks.
27:38And Will McDonald having a great day today.
27:39I want you to address this one, Frankie.
27:42I'm not on Senpai.
27:44Dude, it was a downpour.
27:45Stop crying about the offense.
27:47Did you guys cry about fields two weeks ago?
27:50I'll let you take it away here because I feel like this is a ridiculous comment.
27:54First of all, the first half was not a downpour.
27:57So that's not true.
27:59Dylan Gabriel managed to throw for about 170 yards and two touchdowns.
28:05I mean, you have one passing first down.
28:08We're not asking for 200 yards.
28:11We're not asking for 150 yards.
28:13We're asking for 100 yards passing.
28:17Fields is gun shy at times.
28:20You saw it from the first half on.
28:22He just gets in this mental block.
28:24He has a mental block that he doesn't want to get the ball out.
28:28He doesn't.
28:29I don't.
28:30These comments are whatever.
28:32They're always the same.
28:33It was a downpour, but it wasn't a downpour for them.
28:35Why did Gabriel have 167 yards, which isn't even that much, but he had to get something.
28:43There was a lot on the table there.
28:44Most of it was in the first half when it wasn't raining.
28:47They were playing in the same game we were.
28:49I'm just saying you cannot win a football game having one passing first down.
28:53We miraculously managed to do that because that one play, which was a screen, mind you.
28:58So the one first down Fields had was literally because of what the offensive coordinator set up, what the O-line was able to do, and what Brees was able to do after catching the screen.
29:09Talk to him, Frankie.
29:10Fields actually did a really good job on that play, though.
29:12Fields says hike, and then he's going there late.
29:15Now you see that development with him.
29:17He had a nice play earlier in the game on a free rusher in Carson Schwestinger who came in, hit him unblocked in A-gap, and he did a little dump off to Isaiah Davis.
29:27I thought he'd have room, Isaiah Davis, because there were so many guys up front, so much pressure in the Jets' face, but that's Cleveland's defense.
29:35They can manage with one or two guys on the outside to cover their tracks.
29:39They weren't able to cover their tracks on that last screen of Brees, so it's not good enough, man.
29:44You cannot – Justin Fields cannot be a quarterback right now.
29:49Listen, we won the game.
29:50Shout-outs to him.
29:51He's 2-0 since Woody's comments.
29:53He seems to be – you know?
29:56I was hoping – I was actually hoping Cleveland was going to score another point so that they can do – we can do that 21-plus points stat with Justin Fields,
30:06because now he's 1-27, I think, or 1-26 – 1-26 when the opposing team scores 21 points.
30:13You know, Cleveland scored 20 today.
30:16Fields, listen, he won the game.
30:18He did just enough to win the game.
30:20But you'd have to be crazy to look at this game with Justin Fields and tell yourself, oh, this is something I'm excited about with this guy.
30:29Come on.
30:29What are we doing here?
30:30I am going to say, though, I am excited with the offensive line.
30:32I don't know who had a comment earlier.
30:35Sorry we keep, like, you know, trying to point at you guys, but somebody said Cleveland D-line was in our face all day.
30:42Yeah, they said there was pressure on Fields all day.
30:45What are you guys talking about?
30:46Not necessarily.
30:46No, there was not.
30:47I mean, there was a little bit.
30:49Cleveland's pass rush is the best in football, mind you, everyone.
30:52That's what I'm saying.
30:54They didn't really do that much.
30:56I was not impressed with Cleveland's pass rush, like, changing the game.
30:59They were not.
31:00Even against the run, I didn't see them do anything.
31:02I mean, Justin Fields was just holding the ball too long and then taking sacks or he was just straight up not throwing the ball well.
31:07Like, I just don't I'm not giving them credit for the Browns defensive line.
31:11I do want to bring in here some comments from Aaron Glenn after the game.
31:15Speaking of reporters, he was asked about Justin Fields performance today.
31:20He says he has to look at the film before commenting on his performance.
31:23But he said, quote, I wasn't happy just in general with the offense or the defense in the first half.
31:28But I thought in the second half we did some things to give us a chance to win, which is true.
31:32They played a lot better in the second half, which, again, is a credit to Aaron Glenn.
31:36It's a credit to this coaching staff.
31:37The adjustments they made in the second half in the downpouring rain, not good conditions on the field, on a slippery turf, on a bad turf and met life itself.
31:46Jets held just so tough and just win a football game and they made a comeback and at times when they needed to the fact that it was tied 17, 17 and half, which is a crazy series.
31:56After Will McDonald gets his third sack of the game, the Browns run on the field and hit the game time field goal.
32:02That was impressive.
32:03That was impressive.
32:04It was really impressive.
32:05Yeah, but again, the difference was Brees Hall.
32:09The difference was Brees Hall in the second half and how special he was.
32:13The Browns offense, again, not not world beaters.
32:17So you got to take some lumps if you're the Jets defense and they got to play a lot better against the Patriots next week.
32:22But Frankie, if correct me if I'm wrong, one win after another win is a winning streak.
32:29The Jets have your own winning streak.
32:36If you weren't with us when we weren't having winning streak, you guys got to bear with us like this is going to be a long year.
32:47We're very corny guys.
32:49Yes, and we have nothing else really to root for here besides, hey, we got to win.
32:54The Jets got another win.
32:55Two wins in a row.
32:56Two and seven.
32:57They got the Patriots coming up here in a short week on Thursday Night Football up in Foxborough.
33:01That will not be an easy game.
33:03Will that be a wolf night, you think?
33:05Thank God.
33:06I will not be here for that one.
33:07Frankie will be on the channel for that one.
33:10Final thoughts, Frankie.
33:11I wanted to bring up this with Brees Hall, everyone.
33:15Like, just appreciate the caliber of offensive player that Brees Hall is.
33:20He's only 24 years old.
33:22We drafted the kid.
33:24He's been spectacular since he's been here.
33:27Has he had some down stretches?
33:28Has he had some injury concerns?
33:30Has the offensive line not been all that good?
33:33Or has he ever really had a quarterback to take the pressure off of him?
33:36No.
33:37He really hasn't had help throughout his tenure here with the Jets.
33:40He hasn't.
33:41There's been no situation Brees has come into week one.
33:45And you could say for that season, we're going to help him a bunch.
33:48I thought with Justin Fields, that might happen with the read option.
33:51They're not really running it much for whatever reason.
33:53I think there's other stuff going on there.
33:55Maybe concern with Fields' injuries, with the concussion, but whatever.
34:00Maybe they can't run it because teams are stacking the box and not playing too deep safety.
34:04Regardless, we have to appreciate how good Brees Hall is.
34:08Because this is a guy that, again, only 24, he can be here for at least another couple years, three years.
34:16When you do address the quarterback in the draft this year or next year, we have five first-round picks.
34:24The only team in football, everyone.
34:26No other team even has four.
34:28Three teams have three.
34:29We have five in the next two years.
34:31They can get this guy a quarterback.
34:32We got Garrett Wilson.
34:34We have Mason Taylor, who's a good rookie tight end.
34:38And Brees Hall is a special player in this league.
34:40And for all the people that wanted to trade him and wanted to lose today, hey, appreciate what you have.
34:46Because Brees Hall had 125 total yards today.
34:50Had the only first down on offense, passing-wise, all game.
34:55He's a special football player.
34:58And the more that he's around when it matters, because right now it doesn't really matter.
35:03You're 2-7.
35:04It doesn't matter.
35:05You're still, you know, hanging around, but, you know, you get to eight losses.
35:11It's officially RIP.
35:12They're basically there anyway.
35:13I'm not trying to talk about the playoffs, by the way.
35:15But I'm just saying, Brees Hall is someone that when things do matter here, you're going to want him back there.
35:21And with sports medicine today, everyone, you never know.
35:24Yeah, he might even have another injury in his career, but people recover.
35:28Jonathan Taylor, look how many carries that guy's taken from college and the NFL, and he's still balling.
35:32Look at what Derrick Henry did last year.
35:34People thought he was on his last legs.
35:36Running backs can be really good in this league for a longer time than we assume.
35:40Medicine's there.
35:41Guys are in really good shape these days.
35:43Keep Brees Hall around.
35:44They need to work on extending him.
35:46And by the way, if they are in a situation towards the end of the year, and I'm sure they will be, where it really doesn't matter, save the kid, please.
35:54Just save him.
35:55Put him, quote-unquote, on ice so we can appreciate this guy when the games really do matter in a year, two, three years.
36:02I don't know if they're ever going to shut him down, though.
36:03They need him.
36:04They need him for all time.
36:05Yeah, but I'm saying you don't have to give him, like we did one year, we gave him 37 carries against the Patriots in that game, that solid game that we beat the Pats in that actually propelled them to drafting third overall, and they got Drake May.
36:18But I'm not going to talk about that.
36:20But you don't need to do stuff like that, I'm saying.
36:22You want to be smart with this kid.
36:24This is an investment, Ryan.
36:25This kid's a baller, Brees Hall.
36:28He's one of the best running backs in football, honestly.
36:31I agree with you, man.
36:32I would love for them to extend him.
36:34Keep him here.
36:36Build your offense around him and this rookie quarterback that you're going to get.
36:39But I can't keep watching Justin Fields taking snaps at quarterback here, man.
36:42It's brutal.
36:43It's just brutal.
36:45Two weeks ago was fun.
36:46Again, people, for those of you making comments about, what were you saying about Fields two weeks ago against the Bengals?
36:51It's like, did you watch the Bengals' defense against the Bears' offense last week, and did you see what they did against the Jets?
36:58Jets' offense looked pitiful today, and yet they look like world beaters.
37:02What, 500 yards of offense against the Bengals' defense for 18, two weeks ago?
37:05Yeah, more than half of that was rushing, by the way.
37:07Fields didn't have 350 yards.
37:09They get 244, 46, which is good, but it's like he had 340 yards.
37:14It's not like he did what Mike White did against the Bengals years ago.
37:16We had over 400 yards passing.
37:19So, yeah, he had 245.
37:21You kind of want a quarterback here that could basically do that every other week or so.
37:26You can't go 54 yards he had today.
37:29He actually had a net of 40-whatever.
37:30I thought it was 25.
37:32Would it shock you if Aaron Glenn benches him next week for Tyrod to start?
37:37It only would because they're coming off a win.
37:40If they came off a loss, I think, if they lost this game, I think Fields is benched next week.
37:45But I think, dude, winning cures all in football.
37:48It's the fact that you can't – it's hard to sell, hey, I'm benching a quarterback who won his second game in a row.
37:55But you're winning in spite of him.
37:57I agree.
37:58In spite of him.
38:00I do.
38:00I mean, listen, do you think they're going to bench him?
38:03Is that something we can –
38:03I think they'll bench him.
38:04Chad, what do you think?
38:05Are they going to bench – do you think they're going to bench Justin Fields?
38:08Let's see.
38:08If you think they are, say yes.
38:10If not, no.
38:10I don't think they will.
38:12Look, Justin's a nice kid.
38:14He's got a good head on his shoulders.
38:15You can see emotionally it's wearing on him.
38:17I know these type of comments that we make about his play probably get to him and his family.
38:22But it's like –
38:22Yeah.
38:23We call it as we see it, man.
38:24You can't throw the football.
38:28Quarterback, they can't throw a football.
38:29You're not going to win football games.
38:30Like, you're winning in spite of him.
38:32The guy is so special with the ball in his hands when it comes to running the football.
38:37Hands down, he's one of the best, if not the best, when it comes to running the football as a quarterback.
38:42But he cannot throw the football.
38:45And you cannot win football games consistently in the NFL with a quarterback like Justin Fields.
38:50So that's what makes me pause and say, I understand you won the game.
38:54It was fun.
38:54But you won today's game because the defense held strong in the second half with six sacks, four from Will McDonald.
39:01And ultimately, you got bailed out by two special teams' returns for touchdowns, which has never happened.
39:08It's never happened in NFL history for the Jets.
39:11So, like, put that in perspective of we saw history today for the Jets to win a football game.
39:18It's great, but it's not being repeated next week.
39:21So when you want to err on the side of consistency, what's going to be consistent next week, Frankie,
39:26is we're going to see a quarterback struggle against a very good Patriots defense that does not give up a lot of yards to running backs, mind you.
39:35I believe they're the only team in the NFL that's held every running back, opposing running back,
39:39to under 100 yards rushing every game this season.
39:43Like, that's impressive.
39:44I didn't know that.
39:45Oh, yeah, yeah.
39:46I saw, I think it was Schefter.
39:49Let me see if I've had this right.
39:51Patriots.
39:51By the way, I want to bring up the Patriots, too, everyone.
39:54I don't know if we all realize this.
39:56This is, like, maybe our worst nightmare.
39:58New England is 8-2.
40:02They are clearly at the top of the AFC East.
40:06The Bills got their ass beat by the Dolphins today.
40:09Horrible.
40:10They got destroyed.
40:10The Bills are 6-3.
40:12You're going to have Bills fans all week talking about wanting to get rid of that head coach.
40:16I'm telling everyone right now.
40:17I don't think they should, and I really don't even care.
40:20I'm a Jets fan.
40:21We're a Jets show.
40:22But they're going to be talking about that all week.
40:24New England's won seven in a row.
40:26They're 8-2.
40:27They're two games up on that division.
40:29Yeah, that's going to be a game that is really going to tell us what this coaching staff is because New England's going to be favored by probably a touchdown plus.
40:42I would say 7-1⁄2, maybe more, 8-1⁄2, 9-1⁄2, something like that.
40:49And we're going to know what Aaron Glenn and Steve Wilkes are going to be able to do to neutralize that passing game that New England has.
40:56And Travion Henderson went off today, so we'll get into that in our preview show.
41:00But that'll be really a good litmus test, I think, to see where this coaching staff is.
41:05The last two weeks, those coaching staffs we lined up against, I know Kevin Stefanski's a two-time coach of the year, which is amazing to think about.
41:16But they were awful today.
41:20That Cleveland staff had no idea what they were doing.
41:22And that play caller there, who's pretty good, but it was his first time doing it in the NFL.
41:27And then last year, you look at the last couple years with Cleveland.
41:34They've been a shipwreck, man.
41:35That team's all over the place.
41:37And then you look at Cincinnati.
41:39They're having a coup against the offense.
41:41They're having a coup against the defense.
41:43They don't want that defense there.
41:45So I wouldn't take these last two games as too much of a rah-rah, pump-your-chest kind of game, kind of win.
41:53But we'll know against New England.
41:55We'll know.
41:56We're going there Thursday night.
41:57It's a short week.
41:58That'll really show what the preparation looks like.
42:01And if the Jets play well and the Jets keep it close or they find a way to win,
42:05we're going to have to start having a different conversation about this coaching staff and Aaron Glenn.
42:10I'm just keeping it real.
42:11You win a game like that, you win three in a row, you got to be flexible in life.
42:17Things aren't always the way you see it.
42:18We thought Aaron Glenn was an awful head coach the first couple weeks of the season before the bye-to.
42:26Now, listen, I don't have necessarily faith in him, but things are starting to turn a little bit.
42:32Maybe that big ship turning thing maybe wasn't crazy about it.
42:36Two really bad football teams they beat.
42:38Absolutely.
42:39Patriots are the cream of the crop.
42:40They are the best team you could argue in the AFC right now besides the Colts or even better than the Colts.
42:46Yeah, I know.
42:46Look at the Colts today.
42:47They got lucky they won that game.
42:49So the Jets have their hands cut out.
42:52They have a lot in front of them here in this Patriots game on Thursday night.
42:55Frankie, that is a postgame show for the Jets win.
42:5827-20 over the Cleveland Browns getting their second win of the season, a winning streak for the Jets.
43:03We'll see how they respond on Thursday, like you said, and if they can play tough against a very good Patriots team.
43:11Frankie, any final thoughts, buddy?
43:14Final thoughts are we have right now, in my opinion, one of the most underrated defensive players in the NFL, and we should all appreciate that player.
43:24I know I was speaking about Brees, and I brought up this player first on the show.
43:27I gave him my flowers.
43:29Will McDonald gets a lot of crap from this fan base.
43:32A lot of guys.
43:33Gotten some crap from me in the past, although I've supported him most of the time.
43:3715th overall pick.
43:39Fans didn't want him.
43:41We were supposed to get Broderick Jones.
43:42We got jumped, and then we ended up with Will McDonald.
43:45Well, JSN got drafted after him, and people were going crazy about that, and to a degree, I understand it.
43:52Give Will McDonald some credit.
43:53All right?
43:54That kid, all he's done since he's been here is gotten a little bit better, a little bit better.
43:59A game like today just shows you the kind of caliber of player he is.
44:02When you're in the conversation and in records for what you did in the game with John Abraham and Mark Gastineau, that shows that you can play ball, man.
44:12He can play.
44:13He's a quality edge in this league.
44:15Is he one of the top 10 edges?
44:16I don't know, but he's starting to make a conversation about it.
44:21There's a conversation to be had about it, so give Will McDonald all the credit, baby.
44:26I love a good edge player, man.
44:27I love that number two.
44:29I love that nine, man.
44:30That's sleek, man.
44:31You just see that nine out there.
44:32I usually don't like defensive linemen wearing single digits.
44:35I kind of like it on Will.
44:36He looks good out there, so he ditched the 99.
44:38He got the nine.
44:40Let's rock out, boys.
44:42We got something there.
44:43We got something there with these edge guys.
44:45Yeah, look, I think it's a nice moment here, like you said, for Will in an all-time game and an all-time performance.
44:52But the fact that the Jets and Aaron Glenn were able to make adjustments after the buy, actually get a win after the buy, which never happens with this Jets franchise, it was nice to see that they can get a win.
45:04What was our record after buys, right?
45:06It was the worst in the NFL.
45:08I don't have that stat anymore.
45:09You said like the last 10 games, it was like one and nine or something like that.
45:12That is correct.
45:13They are one and nine in their last 10 games after the bye week.
45:15So it's nice to them that they get the win and that your best players should be your best players in Brees Hall and Will McDonald, and they dominated today in their position.
45:24So, look, it's a feeling a lot like 2022 all over again in terms of the rebuild and where this Jets team is going this year and that we're lining ourselves up for a top pick again.
45:36We'll see where the Jets end up at the end of the year.
45:38But at the end of the day, get the doubles when you can.
45:40For Frankie Ritterini, for Ryan Sampson, this is the Gangs Will Hear Postgame Live Show.

45:57We'll be here again next week.
45:59Frankie will be here live.
46:00I'll be taking a week off.
46:01There'll be my bye week for Thursday night.
46:03We're going to miss a three-game winning streak, right?
46:05Celebration.
46:05I'm going to be drinking a beer and be like, woof, I'm glad I'm not talking about this one after the game.
46:12We'll see you all next time.
46:14As always, go Jets.
