00:00how to fix the jets that's a loaded question for us to figure out here frankie but that's what
00:04we're going to try and do today on today's episode of gangs all here i'm ryan sampson
00:08that's frankie viteriti from you stadium frankie and i have put together a document
00:14how him and i more of a blueprint i would say actually manifesto manifesto just how to fix
00:20the jets and honestly we took a real look at this and figuring out free agent targets what they
00:26should do in the draft and the future of the quarterback and coach here with this jets
00:30franchise we're taking a realistic approach here we didn't try to make this a fantasy camp trading
00:35for joe burrow for five first round picks no none of that what we're doing on today's episode is
00:40looking at an honest realistic approach of how we can fix this current jets team and franchise to put
00:47itself in a better position for the future i'm looking forward to this one frankie absolutely
00:51and not only do we look at the right fits schematically speaking we looked at the right
00:56players to come into this locker room or go to the jets locker room at one jd and actually change
01:02some
01:02of the culture there because like kaz says to us all the time winning makes culture i think sometimes
01:09you need some players to help you win so you can build some culture so we're going to get all
01:12into
01:12that yeah it's the foundation of how they're going to ultimately make turn this thing around if they
01:16can turn this thing around stick around for today's episode how to fix the goddamn jets man it's a loaded
01:29question it's something i think a lot of jets fans obviously are always talking about we see all the
01:33content creators we see the beat writers this is that time of year now frankie in the offseason where
01:38they start coming together with free agent targets what are they gonna do in the mock drafts
01:42for the actual draft itself um trade possibilities there's endless things to talk about obviously in
01:49the offseason uh and the jets are kings at making the offseason like their championship if that makes
01:56sense um and i think for us today like the big thing that we should be focused on and what
02:01we're
02:01going to tell the fans here is this is a plan we think that makes sense for this team it's
02:06realistic
02:07and i want to start off with the free agency man because that is the first thing that's ultimately
02:11going to happen here for the jets before the draft and before that is going to be what are they
02:17going
02:17to do in free agency including their own players that are free agents so let's start off buddy with
02:24where they're at currently heading into the offseason right now the jets are projected to be somewhere
02:28between 74 to 83 million depending on structures of contracts and and that's how much flexibility
02:33they're looking at right now but i think we both agree the first thing the jets got to do is
02:38figure out
02:39who they're actually going to cut from this roster to provide more flexibility and who they'd like
02:43to retain going into 2026 so you had some players here that i'm interested to react to the first being
02:49of course justin fields it seems like all signs are pointing to justin fields his time is done with the
02:54jets it was a one and done it was an experiment that went horribly wrong he had one of the
02:59worst
02:59statistical off offense offensive seasons as a quarterback can have um and it's just it looks like he's
03:05going to be a cap casualty here uh they'll most likely designate him as a post june 1st cut 10
03:11million dollars they could save on the cap what do you think about that i i think it's inevitable man
03:16i i think towards the end of the year justin fields really didn't want to play football um and i
03:24think
03:24this team needs players that want to play football no matter what yeah and i think when fields came here
03:33he was given the keys as the starter there's no competition justin this is your team or you're the
03:39quarterback here and i thought that was just a bad way to set him up for success and he sort
03:45of took it
03:46for granted a little bit i think and then you just have to get him out man i mean the
03:51justin fields
03:51experiment failed and uh i don't even want him to stick around because i don't know if he really loves
03:58football and i hate saying that i hate questioning whether a guy loves football or not especially
04:04ones i don't know but when you don't want to play the last four or five games of the season
04:10when you're
04:10asked hey would you even consider doing wildcat or scrambling type packages and you say no and even
04:17the pro bowl right wasn't he wasn't he uh asked to go to the pro bowl and he said no
04:22i'm good so like
04:23he's he's he's good on football and um maybe he should contemplate some other things in his life
04:28but not to get too much into that but um yeah with fields post june one of them yeah i
04:34think that
04:34makes the most sense it's going to give them 10 million dollars more in cap space so right now
04:37they're currently according to over the cap uh which is a great website if you want to look at
04:41where the jets are currently ranked in all these things they're currently at 83 million in cap space
04:45roughly with the 10 million dollars saved that they would with a post june first cut of justin fields
04:49you're now looking at 93 million to play with in free agency and obviously allocated for the for
04:54the rookies that you signed through the draft um they have some dead cap cuts that are already there
05:00in terms of dead money aaron rogers will count 35 million so that's also another big hit so you're
05:05talking about and mind you after you cut justin fields and this is a post june first cut you're looking
05:12at 13 million of dead money plus the 35 dead million in aaron rogers so now you're looking at 48
05:18million
05:19in dead money that's a lot of money for quarterbacks that aren't even on the roster anymore not to
05:24mention the fact another player in the quarterback room is going to be a free agent and tyrod taylor
05:29so he also has a six million dollar void so now you're looking at over for 54 million
05:36in dead money just for quarterbacks not to play on this jets roster they are completely resetting this
05:43room i think that's the the step one of the offseason is cutting justin fields would he better delay that
05:49trip to uh the bahamas or aruba because he's gonna have a lot of money being dished out this offseason
05:54so delay some of these trips would he look it's it's a lot of money but uh that's the current
05:59situation the jets are in and they're going to be looking for their new quarterback um so that that
06:03that to me i think makes the most sense to start off in the free agency time is making justin
06:08fields
06:08a designated post june first cut to save 10 million you absorb the the insane hit that you're going to
06:14get on the cap hitter again um some other dead money that is going to hit the jets this just
06:19for
06:19fans to understand uh sauce gardener has 11 million dollar dead cap hit after signing that extension
06:24with the jets quinnon williams has a 9.8 as well cj mosley who obviously left in retirement has a
06:317.65
06:32million dollar cap hit michael carter the second after being traded is a 6.8 million dollar cap hit
06:37malachi corley has 618 000 alan lazard has 4.3 million so the jets have 75 million that's before
06:46the justin fields cut of dead money against the cap now it's great that they have 93 million after
06:52the justin fields cut but think about that 75 million before the justin fields cut and dead money
06:57already on this roster but they have a lot to play with um but now let's talk about frankie the
07:02other
07:02part of hey we're moving on from him and now it's time to look at our own internal free agents
07:09and who
07:09we'd want to bring back i think the big one that we have to discuss here is breeze hall should
07:14the jets
07:14keep breeze hall frankie uh that's a tough question man so i'll answer it this way i did a lot
07:22of work
07:22on the running backs coming out of this draft and i'll say this i wasn't too encouraged by what i
07:29saw
07:29besides jeremiah love i like the other notre dame back for us more i like jadarian price more than i
07:37do jeremiah love as an every down back we'll get into that though i'm sure but i did some work
07:42on the
07:43backs um unless you're gonna draft jadarian price or maybe jonah coleman early ish meaning at 33 or 44
07:54because jeremiah love is gonna go probably in the top 20 you're gonna have to look at other running
08:00backs on the market i don't necessarily love the options i know kenneth walker just won his super
08:07bowl mvp but he's constantly in and out of the lineup yeah same thing with with with uh with etn
08:14so again when it comes to breeze hall you know what i would do i question also how much he
08:21wants to be
08:22here he's been here during all this losing you saw what it did to quinnon granted breeze is younger
08:28uh he didn't experience that as much but i still think there's something there where i think he's
08:34tired of being a jet to be honest and i don't blame him necessarily yeah i think breeze a little
08:38tired man you could see some of the stuff starting to get to him with that said i would franchise
08:43tag him
08:43yeah so that's that's how we laid it out here for that so we laid it out give him the
08:47tag give him
08:48the franchise tag and he's gonna have a 14.5 million dollar projected cap hit for the franchise
08:53tag now that is fully guaranteed 14.5 on your cap they do have the ability to give him an
08:59extension
08:59obviously and that would lower the cap but if you're talking about 14.5 million with the tag
09:04that's what they would be absorbing if they franchise tag breeze hall yeah you could play around with that
09:10with a non-exclusive hit let him go seek other offers the thing is if a team were to sign
09:15him and you
09:15don't want to match you'd have to give up a draft pick so it's almost like why would a team
09:19want to
09:20do that and give up a draft pick hey there may be a team out there that really views breeze
09:24hall
09:25in a bit of better light than maybe what we're viewing him and in this short window uh with
09:30erin glennett you know um but there's gonna be teams out there ryan like teams like kansas city
09:35that are that are the chargers teams that want to get a quality offensive piece really i mean
09:43listen omerian hampton was hurt last year i don't know if he's their pass catcher necessarily
09:48you just never know in this league but he's going to be highly sought after if the jets let him
09:53walk
09:53into free agency so i think i think ultimately they're going to really try to give him an extension
09:57actually believe it or not i think the franchise tag while the uh and mind you when we're recording
10:02this is february 12th when we record this february 17th is the first day you can start tagging your
10:07players um so breeze hall i think they're going to try and work on extension but if they can't i
10:12think
10:13they will ultimately do the franchise tag before he they get to free agency keep him from one more year
10:18let's see what this offense can do i think frank reich's excited to work with breeze hall and bringing
10:22him back here and having it a uh an offense that's really focused on the run again i wonder how
10:27breeze
10:27handles that though breeze has had injuries 14 and a half million guaranteed to you it is but it's not
10:33a great taste in our head for running backs they don't really love that tag you saw what it would
10:38say it's it's the beginning of the end in a way i think you give breeze that franchise tag you
10:44might
10:44be saying this is the last year you're here honestly i think the jets are going to bring them
10:48back either way but we'll see if they do it on the franchise tag i think for this purpose though
10:52to
10:52fix the jets franchise franchise tag breeze hall elijah very tucker guard first round pick uh has
10:59dealt with a ton of injuries was lost all this past year um to a torn tricep injury he's good
11:06man he's
11:07really good he's an unrestricted free agent i would extend resign him and keep keep him it wouldn't have
11:13to be a long-term deal i think in this opportunity for this jets team i think they can resign
11:19him to a
11:19two-year deal potentially maybe one year opt-out but i would bring back elijah very tucker and that's
11:25what you got here to to ultimately take that next step with this offensive line yeah i mean the depth
11:32that you want on that offensive line can never be enough right especially new york especially with
11:38what we've had to deal with with our offensive line issues in the past you want to shore that front
11:42up as
11:43much as possible elijah very tucker not only is he great when he's healthy he's a great leader they
11:48love him in that locker room captain yes and that's a variable here that i want players that are great
11:53leaders that help out the young guys we have a young offensive line who's a better confidant for
11:58you than elijah very tucker so yeah i would try to keep him definitely so that's part of the plan
12:04keep keep avt maybe pay him a little bit more than maybe you'd like because remember he is a ufa
12:09so
12:10there's gonna be other teams looking at him you got teams like the eagles and other teams out there
12:14that may be looking at him and saying hey uh we know what he's capable of and he's unfortunately
12:19been there let's bring him here and uh turn him into you know a super bowl champion like what
12:24happened with makai becton kind of thing yeah i mean would it shock you if ver tucker went to
12:27another team and had an all pro you know a couple years here now so i think other teams are
12:33going to
12:33value him as well he has versatility he can bump out to tackle but he's best suited as a guard
12:38i think
12:38he'd be great at right guard again next to uh membu and it would help solidify that right side of
12:43that
12:43offensive line you also have the jets re-signing john simpson to a two-year 14 million dollar deal
12:48he started every game last year uh and o-line continuity frankie in this part if we keep ver
12:54tucker and you keep simpson you're talking about bringing back the starting five that you wanted
12:58to have this past year and giving them another chance at bringing some continuity to this offensive
13:03line yes the for that price tag i'm bringing back john simpson but i'm not bringing back john
13:09simpson to be a starter i'm signing john simpson as like a glorified backup slash fringe starter
13:15because i'm looking at the draft to bring in another left guard in this draft to compete with
13:20john simpson and if john simpson can beat him out you take that job if you can't beat him out
13:25then
13:25you're sitting buddy and you're going to be a a very highly paid backup but i think that's something
13:31this team needs to do i want to invest in something that we have uh a differentiator
13:38at play here when it comes to what the jets can bring in 2026 and beyond that other teams don't
13:43have and that's the offensive line and if you want it to be a differentiator you got to keep investing
13:48in it and making it as great as possible so i would resign both of them i don't think we
13:54will but in my
13:55plan bring them both back and i would also look at the draft and make that a real competition and
14:01also
14:01that includes avt i want a real competition man when you're rebuilding like we are right now ryan
14:07and and everyone out there when you're rebuilding you have to breed competition to breed the best of
14:14what you have no one should be given anything with that said yeah i would resign simpson um but um
14:20if he has an offer for three years 25 million and you let him walk you let him walk yeah
14:25i would
14:25agree uh but i think it'd be nice to bring back simpson he's really strong in the run game he's
14:30he's had his struggles in the past pro um and i do think you can ultimately upgrade the left guard
14:35position if you wanted to via the draft or through free agency um but give the kid some time too
14:40yeah
14:40i think it'd be nice though to to bring back simpson though he's kind of a veteran leader as well
14:45i feel
14:45like he gives that kind of oomph to the offensive line that it needs fashion who seems like a more
14:49reserved guy he kind of reminds me a lot to brickish ferguson totally in his reserve style so i think
14:54simpson you're talking about a guy in his late you know he's what i think he's 30 almost right here
14:59so
14:59i mean he's he's gonna be a guy that if you wanted to bring back he's 29 gonna be 30
15:04i would bring him
15:05back i i'm fine with that i am good with them having constantly in the offensive line let them gel
15:10the offensive line coaches coming back this year again one of the few that was retained for aaron glenn on
15:15the staff after the massive overhaul and and what he did so i agree with this frankie and in internal
15:21free agent wise breeze hall elijah vera tucker john simpson i want to add one more here nick folk
15:27you got to bring him back for his age 43 season he was unbelievably money for them this year despite
15:33how bad the offense was and how few opportunities he had to kick he's again another veteran presence
15:38we know aaron glenn loves him and i think it just helps solidify something that you just don't have to
15:43worry about and let nick folk kick for you again this year i would bring him back on another one
15:47year deal i would too but just know this he's bound to fall off a cliff eventually it's gonna
15:53happen until i see it happen he's not falling off you know what i mean yeah i got you he's
15:57a
15:57hometown here i think jets fans love him like i understand he's gonna be 43 and he's 42 right now
16:03i would bring him back on a one-year three million and all these deals were just disgusting these
16:07aren't big time no these aren't big might be a little bit more than we think but uh but he's
16:12worth it
16:12in my opinion totally totally he's worth it and he and he wants to be a jet as is nick
16:16fox so yeah
16:17i'm i'm i'm with you all all around bring him back all right now let's go to the external free
16:21agent
16:22route so now we got to lay out the plan for who they're going to target out there in free
16:25agency
16:25and you started off with something interesting here uh for the quarterback position now we know
16:30kirk cousins is supposed to be released by all reports by the falcons yeah so he will probably hit
16:37free agency here but you instead of going the free agent route for marcus mariota uh daniel jones
16:43i know will be out there there's a there's a lot of names out there frankie and you're not going
16:48with
16:48any of those guys russell wilson tyrod taylor zach wilson joe flacco kenny pickett jeremy garoppolo
16:53trubisky instead you have the jets trading with the arizona cardinals for jacoby brissette reuniting
17:01brissette with frank reich from their indianapolis cult days why do you think that makes sense
17:05i think jacoby brissette the way that he plays the quarterback position and the way that he
17:11delivers that football without hesitation and gets the offense moving and gets those guys a little
17:17bit juiced up i think it's exactly what that quarterback room needs and that it's what this
17:22offense needs i think we've had quarterbacks here that are either not good semi-retired or don't know
17:31what the hell they're doing and have no confidence in the pocket brissette's the opposite of all that
17:36yeah he's got a few years left he's he's he's confident in the pocket he's not the best thrower
17:42of the football he's not you know he's not throwing dimes out there but he gets the offense moving and
17:47he gets some juice in that room the room needs some some some spark man it's like it's just dead
17:53there's nothing you see a jets quarterback trot out you're like oh boy you roll your eyes and you know
17:58what's interesting about jacoby brissette him coming uh to the jets at this point let's say if we do
18:04trade for him he'd be coming in at the age of 33 do you know who did come here at
18:08the age of 33
18:09ryan fitzpatrick ryan fitzpatrick so you got both guys at 33 it's like a lucky number for the career
18:14journeyman coming in yeah kind of and him and brissette kind of had a little bit of similar
18:19numbers fitzpatrick a little bit better but sort of similar especially their last year before they
18:23came to the jets assuming brissette does i think if you're trying to fix the jets that's a good
18:29starting point as the bridge option for the jets so look i i agree with you i mean look jacoby
18:33brissette
18:33i think makes the most sense uh we hear the derrick carr rumors if he wants to come out of
18:37retirement
18:38let's not talk about that right now but i think jacoby brissette in this scenario makes a lot of sense
18:42and if you frankie you're talking about a quarterback that threw for 3300 yards 23 touchdowns eight
18:47interceptions last year with a 71 uh sorry with a 65 completion percentage yeah that'd be one of
18:53the best jet seasons in their history totally yeah it's and that's how bad it's been for the jets
18:59um and look what he did for trey mcbride yeah look at the year that trey mcbride had he had
19:05one of the
19:05best tight end years ever if you want to help trey mcbride's awesome too though he's he's amazing so
19:10yeah yeah he'd have a good year i think with you or i playing quarterback but still i mean i
19:15just like
19:15that brissette does not hesitate to get the ball out and let his guys make plays yeah look i mean
19:21you'd be taking on 9.1 million dollar cap hit for brissette uh that's plenty of money for a backup
19:26quarterback uh he will be 34 this upcoming season i you know i'm for it i just don't know if
19:34aaron
19:35glenn's for it that's what we're gonna really and darren muji like what they're playing for the
19:38quarterback position i think this is the first way to actually signal to their fans we're taking this
19:44year as a year to evaluate the team and we're actually investing in the quarterback position
19:49like you said from the start here though this will give them a legitimate starting quarterback in my
19:55opinion to play every single game you will need to address the backups for that though too now let's go
20:00to the rest of the uh offseason in terms of free agency what you have here this is interesting
20:05frankie you have the jets signing kenneth gainwell to a two-year 10 to 12 million dollar a year deal
20:12uh he was the steelers team mvp last year he had over a thousand scrimmage yards eight touchdowns
20:1773 receptions fourth among all running backs a pff grade of 72.6 overall um why do you like kenneth
20:25gainwell here for the jets when they already have if they in our scenario here breece hall
20:31braylon allen coming back from the knee injury who missed most of the season and isaiah davis
20:36all right well isaiah davis is the odd man out in that equation right there and braylon allen
20:41also probably has to prove himself you know i was all about braylon allen last offseason but you got
20:46to prove yourself what and the breece hall thing uh breece hall is going to come here on a franchise
20:52tag maybe so i'm kind of considering all options maybe he doesn't want to play on the tag maybe he
20:58holds out i'm just saying you never know what's going to happen so i want to bring in somebody that
21:02is
21:03a dual threat running back and i think philly misused kenneth gainwell big time because what i
21:09saw kenneth gainwell do last year showed me that he can be a dual threat running back in this game
21:14as
21:14an rb2 and i think we really need an rb2 that's also going to challenge breece hall a little bit
21:19like kenneth gainwell had 73 catches last year he got targeted 85 times i mean like he had over a
21:26thousand scrimmage yards last year eight touchdowns and he did that on really limited touches overall in
21:32terms of um on the ground he had 114 carries almost five yards to carry i think kenneth gainwell is
21:39is a
21:40great compliment to a breece hall in the sense of he might he kind of does what breece hall does
21:47and i
21:47think he'll challenge breece hall again the common theme here is competition you want somebody that's
21:52going to say you're catching balls out of the backfield so am i you're gonna you know run an
21:57outside zone so am i get me in the game coach let me show you what i can do and
22:02then you get gainwell
22:03cooking a little bit then breece is on the sideline saying damn i gotta get my pee hot too coach
22:09put me
22:09back in let me show you what i can do that is football ladies and gentlemen that is and and
22:15i
22:16don't think we talk about that element of the game enough ideally with breece you'd want a workhorse
22:21a downhill guy or goal line kind of back i don't think this team needs that where that's what a
22:26team that is is ready to win right now you're breeding a a a a competitive field of players
22:32and you need people to compete with each other i think gainwell sitting behind breece assuming breece
22:38is here um it would make a really good one too but i would also say this and you could
22:43run the same
22:43place for both of them ryan i still think breece hall is underutilized in the passing game so i don't
22:48know if this makes sense to me for kenneth gainwell to commit that kind of money as a backup running
22:52back but it would solidify your backup running back position really well that's a lot of money
22:57to give to a backup running back but if you had a one-two punch and breece and kenneth you
23:01could
23:01sign me up for that there are worse ways to run your offense in my opinion the other thing i'm
23:04going
23:04to say just last point what he did with aaron rogers out of the backfield was very interesting
23:10kenneth gainwell this year he did a better job out of the backfield than what breece did with
23:14rogers last year now i know there's different circumstances different offense different offense
23:19i can't compare those things i really can but what i'm saying is this you can run the same offense
23:24with both these guys and breece you think you're a top 10 running back i've called him a top 10
23:29running back before i'm gonna bring in somebody that's really gonna challenge you to get the best
23:35out of you nothing's given to you so that's my approach to you know fixing the jets right
23:43interesting interesting you're investing a lot of assets there in the running back position the
23:47wide receiver position you have some interesting names here the big one that i want to talk about
23:50is alec pierce led the nfl in yards per reception 21.3 he was drafted by frank reich when he
23:56was there
23:56with the colts you got him projected at a 20 million dollar year per deal uh i'm not doing that
24:02by the
24:02way and i i just had that out it'd be a great deep threat but they already have adenai mitchell
24:06here
24:06they have john mechie i think they're gonna draft a wide receiver here i don't know if alec pierce is
24:11the
24:11target there but we do have to move on to defense here frankie for free agency um external free agent
24:17targets for the defensive side of the ball i expect the jets to heavily invest in this side of the
24:22of
24:22the ball because how bad this unit is um you have some interesting names here at corner you got nashon
24:29right from the bears and you have tarik woolen or jamal dean tell me what are those of those three
24:36who's prior who's being prioritized here for the jets and free agency i think jamil dean is is
24:44somebody that um i would love to come and and be our our second corner here and i think when
24:50it when
24:51the years at the at the at the conclusion he'd be the cornerback one i think brandon stevens would
24:56slip into that two role jamil dean is is is is a physical corner um he is a system corner
25:04to a degree
25:05but also can play some man he's a he's a corner that's really he fights for every last bit of
25:12everything on a football field and again that's the common theme here i want guys that are going
25:15to come in here and want to fight and play hard nose football jamil dean does um tyreek woolen you're
25:22starting to get a little bit more fancy at the position if the deal makes sense it makes sense i
25:26don't think it would make sense here for us um i'd probably go with jamil there and i think he'll
25:30be a
25:30little bit cheaper um yeah and then uh nashawn writes interesting because of his ball hawk ability
25:36you know he was something the jets don't have yeah he's only playing the nfl last year with five
25:40interceptions and 10 plus uh pass uh deflections um he's six four which is interesting and you don't
25:48get corners that big usually that tall so i think uh with aaron glenn's um preference for wanting
25:54those longer corners which he's spoken about in the past you kind of match him up with the
25:58physical play let's say a jamel dean um if you want to bring them both in maybe you just take
26:03one but i'd i'd go after one of those two right there at corner and have them compete with again
26:09az thomas you're coming in and you're going to be not handed the cornerback to roll you've got to
26:16fight for that role um and if you want to play on this team you got to maybe play a
26:20little bit nickel
26:21or a little bit in the box as a corner um and make some tackles so i think again competition
26:27is
26:27everything here so um i like all those options um my favorite would be uh nash on right it would
26:34be my ideal pick but then after that i go jamil dean and then depending upon what woolen's market
26:39is i think it'll be he'll price this out and and yeah i don't i can't i don't think it's
26:43worth the
26:43squeeze gotta be honest with you frankie i don't see the jets investing that much money in woolen just
26:47because he's going to demand a big contract and they already invested a lot in brandon stevens
26:51um if they wanted to get one of these guys i think it would happen but i also could see
26:55the
26:55jets address again dressing this in the in the draft and going young at the position uh just
27:00because they did invest a lot of assets into that position already uh jamil dean by the way quick
27:05point he had the league's best passer rating allowed last year in the nfl in his pff's fifth
27:09corner again it's gonna cost you a lot of money to get someone like jamil dean so frankie's got
27:12one of them targeting he's got the jets one of the top three corners available in the free
27:17i'm not drafting one now the other parts that we really have to hit on are the safety position
27:21um and look jalen hawkins is obviously a big one there uh cameron curl is another one talk to me
27:28about those two guys because the jets don't have any real starting safeties right now despite what
27:31you think about malachi moore who might have shown some improvement towards the end of the year the
27:35jets really need to address the safety position here too yes i'll say this cameron curl is better
27:42than jalen hawkins slightly better um he is uh more physical he is um great against the run i think
27:51which they both are really good against the run but cameron curl's really special against the run
27:56he's very durable um cameron coat doesn't miss any games um i have here he's never graded below a 65
28:03and pff which is actually wild in six nfl seasons um he was 13th among all safeties in his last
28:11four
28:11years ranked wise um the rams had to let him walk because of their cap situation so they all they're
28:18gonna have to let him walk so or they're not gonna probably resign him but cameron curl's somebody that
28:22i i i really think would fit best here but there's something about jalen hawkins that i really that would
28:30intrigue me even more to bring him here you know why you were just on that super bowl uh or
28:35the afc
28:36championship team in in the new england patriots we're taking one of your guys we're gonna give
28:41him and he wants to stay there we're gonna give him an offer you that he can't refuse he's also
28:46a
28:46great leader he's also a big locker room guy um he's also very good against the run like cameron
28:52curl is so i think that's the common theme here they're both both of those guys are really good
28:57against the run um he's a physical guy hawkins and he had four interceptions last year so he knows
29:02how to get his hands on the football um he had a sack and a half too so he's somebody
29:07that i i would
29:09want because of those things but also take one of theirs yeah you want to compete with the patriots
29:15take one of theirs and he wants to be there bring him here i think i think it makes a
29:21lot of sense
29:21for them to go get a jalen hawkins uh and and i'd be cool with cameron curl too i think
29:25either one of
29:26those guys i mean hell i would love to have both of them but i think the jets will take
29:29one of them
29:30and sign one of those guys because they know they need some some bodies in that safety room
29:33and then we got to really talk about the other level of this defense uh al al-kaden muhammad and
29:39alex anzalone i think you could pretty much pencil these guys in as jets players frankie just because
29:44i think glenn needs his guys from detroit to bring that mentality to this jets team that they've been
29:49desperately needing in this scenario to fix the jets quincy williams obviously is going to be gone
29:53in free agency you're letting him walk alex anzalone will bring a really steady presence to that
29:58off ball linebacker position pairing him up with jamie and sherwood i think would really help this
30:02second the second level of the defense and then al-kaden muhammad muhammad i mean he's got 11 sacks
30:07off the bench last year really good player yeah i mean he's worked with glenn for four years i think
30:11that both those guys i think you should pencil them in as jets free agent targets yeah those are
30:16interesting plays the only reason i'm not i'm not penciling them in and you may is because i'm looking
30:21at the draft to solve those two positions i know but i just i feel like the jets since they
30:26have
30:26the cap space man they have to play with it and i think with anzalone and muhammad i think you
30:30can
30:30get legitimate two guys that can help your defense and give you depth and give you actually good
30:34players that can make plays for aaron glenn's defense because glenn is going to be calling
30:38plays and what's he going to want reliability and guys that he knows that can run this run his system
30:43those two guys he knows he can play in their system we have to ask yourself this and i think
30:47maybe
30:47you're on this side of the fence you would bring those guys in the edge and the linebacker and then
30:52maybe focus on corner and safety in the draft where i'm going the opposite way actually i'm looking
30:56at so here's the thing i would sign one to two safeties automatically i wouldn't draft corner me
31:02i mean i wouldn't sign corner to be honest with you because i think that's a lot of money you
31:05would
31:05draft corner i would draft corners and i think because it's a good corner class and the other thing i
31:10would say too is is you need to have good startable players at linebacker and at edge rusher they're
31:18changing this defense most likely to a 3-4 defense because they brought in um uh dunbar dunbar who
31:25comes from a 3-4 defense and glenn glenn ran a little bit of it he runs he runs a
31:30mixture from
31:30detroit he it's different schemes but dunbar is primarily a 3-4 defensive coach so you're going
31:36to need muhammad in there to be able to set the edge the way they want i would bring those
31:40two guys in
31:41that's fair i i think beef up the middle with defensive tackle in the draft i'll say this too to
31:46your
31:46point in a 3-4 you really can't get enough linebackers and edge guys because you could
31:50have one guy playing an outside linebacker one guy playing a defensive end in a five technique so
31:55yeah that's a good point um all right so that's free agency we got we got a lot of guys
32:00here the
32:00jets are most likely going to be targeting we think they're going to look at uh and i think it
32:04makes
32:04sense hawkins uh cameron curl tarik i mean not tarik will but nishan right potentially uh and then i i
32:11got
32:11that i got them taking anzalone and muhammad and signing them to free agent deals but at this point
32:15before the draft to everyone we got you we're at seven wins right now we're at seven with a seven
32:21win team you think i would say they're probably five to six if they did all these moves we just
32:26said i mean a lot of moves they did those you're that's a six or seven win team before the
32:30draft
32:3093 million dollars in cap space after the justin fields cut so you're gonna have plenty of room to
32:35play with here all right now we gotta talk about the draft they got and i want to focus primarily
32:39on
32:39the first two rounds they have picks 2 16 33 and 44 that's four premium picks they have the chance
32:47to really set this roster in a good spot get real difference makers at all four of these spots and
32:54guys that you can rely on for a long time you would hope um i'm not looking to take prospects
32:59that
32:59are are projects my my opinion frankie i think you need to take real legitimate starters here so let's
33:04run through the picks that you have here you got jets number two overall obviously there's no
33:08quarterback they're worthy of taking number two overall after fernando mendoza goes one to the
33:12raiders that's by all mocks and what all everyone's talking about now so now the jets are going to have
33:16their opportunity to really draft the best player in the draft you would think if fernando mendoza is
33:22not thought of as the best player you don't have them taking arville reese you have them taking david
33:27bailey at number two why bailey david bailey is the best pass rusher out of this class and it's not
33:36even
33:36close okay we have to understand that david bailey was top two or first this year second last year
33:43second this year first last year but by pff and pass rushing the guys had 27 sacks in his last
33:49three
33:49years the guy's a menace off the edge i think you can put him in that sort of tj watt
33:58like role that
33:59carl dunbar saw in pittsburgh this guy wouldn't skip a beat man and if you look at his uh measurables
34:06he's got freakishly long arms he was on this this bruce feldman's freak list which has become
34:13something that has been a little bit telling in terms of how successful some guys are like
34:18nikki manuari was on it last year um he had a 405 pound bench press with those long arms 550
34:24squad
34:24he was clocked in at over 22 miles an hour he plays aggressive all the time yes he's not great
34:31against the
34:31run i don't really care teach him how to play against the run that's what you got linebackers and
34:36defensive tackles for i'm not judging a guy based on how he plays against the run necessarily it's a
34:41variable but it's not a an important enough variable for me when you're talking about the
34:46jets and you're trying to fix the jets get me a menace off the edge that's going to cause havoc
34:51force fumbles and create turnovers on defense that's what david bailey will do and i think he'll
34:56do that better than anyone in this class i think i'm fine with that uh obviously other names that
35:00could be mentioned there are val reese is being projected a lot by the uh to the jets at two
35:04and arville reese never forced a fumble in his college career by the way understood isn't that
35:08a little bit never been a full-time edge and he's projected to be an edge uh coming out in
35:12the nfl
35:12uh even as a linebacker he's never forced a fumble understood ruben bain also as well uh you know
35:17one thing i did see today is that uh there is there is talk about arville reese being one of
35:23the most
35:24freakish off-ball linebackers they've ever seen to a degree so but in this scenario we have the jets
35:29signing alex anzalone i think taking an edge player makes more sense they need a bunch of
35:34edge players in this upcoming draft uh well they need a bunch of edge players for this team to be
35:38honest with you shermaine johnson and and and a very light will mcdonald you need to have some real
35:44beef on that edge as well um okay pick 16 you got them going either wide receiver or interior offensive
35:51lineman which is interesting uh or defensive or defensive tackle i kind of think that makes the most
35:56sense here is katie mcdonald from wow state what do you think about uh the jets taking him or i
36:02don't
36:02know if he's going to fall that far arizona state wide receiver jordan tyson listen if jordan tyson's
36:08there you draft jordan tyson 100 you don't even think about it um his tape speaks for itself i don't
36:15need to get into it he's as freakishly fluid and the way he tempos his his breaks and the way
36:22he's
36:24off tempos thing so the corner doesn't know what he's doing he he plays like like he's he's the best
36:30athlete on the field by a long shot and he knows what everyone's doing uh extremely bright and all
36:36the metrics say to what he does and when he broke out at arizona state lines up exactly to where
36:43you
36:43got the jamar chases and the calvin johnson's of the world so i'm looking at him as someone if he's
36:48at
36:4816 i don't think he will be you take him if he's not there i would look at carnell tate
36:52um carnell
36:54tage is a big body again i don't know if he drops to 16 i don't think either of them
36:57will mckay lemon
36:58feels like a more realistic pick for the jets at 16 yeah and i would take him in a heartbeat
37:02i love
37:02mckay lemon bottom line though you see how we're both talking about wide receiver i think that needs
37:07to be a real focus for the jets is getting a real playmaker a wide receiver in this draft yeah
37:11the
37:12issue with mckay lemon is always going to be the height variable and is he ain't that big man
37:18we're going to cool is taller though by three inches he's 6 2 and mckay lemon's 5 11 that makes
37:24a little bit of a difference i know it doesn't rise not that big either i'm on ross taller though
37:28than mckay lemon i understand but like mckay lemon plays the ball like one of the most aggressive wide
37:33receivers i've seen in a long time he plays like a linebacker a wide receiver i agree how he attacks
37:38the ball i need a kid that hungry who wants to attack the ball like that mckay lemon can provide
37:43that for you my question for you is this that difference sometimes as a football player or as
37:49a wide receiver makes a difference and for quarterbacks that makes a difference having that
37:54that that that that's more than an inch whatever that is but regardless it makes a difference okay and
38:00i just wonder with mckay lemon and i'd be fine with the pick i wonder how scheme dependent he
38:07could be because puka nakua doesn't go to the rams is he puka nakua if i'm on rossane brown doesn't
38:13go
38:13to the lions and that ben johnson system is he i'm on rossane brown parker washington's another player
38:19that was drafted late as 5 5 11 who burst onto the scene for jacksonville last year and had a
38:25great last
38:26game of the season he's playing with liam cohen i'm just worried that mckay lemon is a little bit
38:34scheme dependent to get to his ceiling versus carnell tate or jordan tyson that i think could
38:41reach their ceiling regardless of scheme i would say in our scenario here i don't think either one
38:46of those guys are realistic at 16 i don't think either one of those players will drop to they feel
38:50like top 10 players in this draft like top 12 10 10 players in terms of talent so in this
38:55scenario
38:56it's between lemon or you take the defensive tackle i think you take lemon in my opinion in this
39:00scenario well i have two other options so my big board there is tyson tate they're not going to be
39:05there likely like you're saying i agree then i would go with kaden mcdonald i think if you want
39:10to look at a one technique a nose guard a real nose tackle that's your boy out of ohio state
39:16and the
39:16more tape i did i'm kaden mcdonald the more that i was telling myself you know maybe arville reese and
39:23sunny styles and caleb down maybe that defensive looked a little better because you got that big boy up
39:27front just saying he's exactly they call him like a throwback nose tackle we're running a three four
39:32you need someone who's line up over the center and just get home he reminds me a little bit of
39:37dexter lawrence even a little bit better another option i have outside of the box and as i was
39:46talking about earlier i like investing in my differentiator if you're telling me the jets
39:52differentiator is offensive line give me a great offensive lineman one of the best offensive linemen
39:59in this draft i've spoken to people that said he's their highest graded i spoke to dom c your your
40:04boy
40:04online he has him as his top interior offensive lineman that he's ever graded i look i look at him
40:11on film i'm i'm in love with this guy as a prospect that's vega yoane vega yoane is a big
40:20time left
40:21guard this guy if you took like think about like the biggest tree you ever saw in your life
40:27right i don't know if you remember but it's kind of a weird thing to imagine yeah he's he's like
40:31a
40:32tree dude and you're not getting around them and you're not moving them and no matter how much you
40:36try he will bury you if you try too hard so you better be nice to him he's a mean
40:41sob and i think
40:42you put him right next to olu fashionu who we say oh he's a little bit of a nice guy
40:47a little bit
40:47nerdy where's the glasses kind of kind of the brick of shaw vibe get this big sob next to him
40:54and put them on sunday on that left side of the line and tell me how many defensive ends and
41:02defensive tackles or off edge guys are going to be able to even get to get home at all or
41:07even want
41:08to try to get home that's a differentiator so the pivot i call it is if the wide receivers aren't
41:14there
41:15and i'm still up in the air with lemon i haven't you clearly don't like him and i don't like
41:18him
41:18i don't like him for us i like him for the does that bother you if he goes to the
41:23rams and becomes
41:24a next jackson smith and jigba next puka nakua it's pot listen it's possible what do you mean it's
41:30possible if you like the talent then you like the talent figure out how to use it i'm sick and
41:34tired
41:34of the jets there's wide receivers though every year that come out do you think makai lemon is going to
41:38be the last guy that's going to come out at what 5 11 that can get in and out of
41:42breaks and is an
41:43sob to the ball maybe he's a little bit more of that like bulldog to the ball he does have
41:47that
41:47that you don't see often i give you that but you might find the guy next year you might find
41:53the
41:53guy later i'm just saying i rather go with that d tackle that's going to be a menace back in
41:59the
41:59backfield or that lineman that could make that offensive line some unit that the last dynasty we
42:06ever saw non-quarterback dependent was which one the cowboys how did they build their dynasty with
42:12offensive line play so i'm just i'm i'm always going to look at that but you're not wrong with
42:17lemon lemons in the mix here too okay that's what he's got at twin 16 pick 33 now depending on
42:22what
42:23you addressed already in the first round you got some interesting names here anthony hill linebacker
42:28out of texas caleb banks defensive tackle out of florida emmanuel mcneil warren safety out of
42:33toledo so let's stick with the other names here i think the one that stands out the most for me
42:38is most likely caleb banks defensive tackle out of florida a guy who i think had an injury this
42:42past year yep uh didn't really get to have an opportunity uh to show but from what everyone's
42:48saying if he was healthy this year and did play all year there's potentially couldn't even be like
42:52a top 15 player um i think he might be a name that you could pay attention to at 33
42:57the other thing i'll say senior bowl he had the other thing i'll say with this too is uh
43:04would you take ty simpson here at 33 if he slid to the second round or would you wait till
43:0744
43:09he won't make it to 44 i don't even know if he'll make it to 33 i don't think he
43:13will
43:14so i don't think he'll make it to 33 i'm considering ty simpson is off the board at this point
43:20if he's on the board i would take him flyer on him yeah why not if he's there at 33
43:26i would
43:26definitely take him i also think if he's there at 33 you're gonna have a lot of calls a lot
43:30of
43:30teams are gonna be like hey you guys want to trade that pick 33 is the most traded pick in
43:35nfl history
43:35so so who are you taking here at 33 if anthony hill jr is there i looked at this guy
43:40on tape this guy
43:41is as much of a menace as you can be as a linebacker i'll get another common theme i'm trying
43:46to cause chaos
43:47you know i'm a little bit of a chaotic guy myself that's for sure i like causing chaos get david
43:53bailey anthony hill let's make quarterbacks not want to play yeah the game let's make them think
43:59like this guy's a maniac i have to watch out this is how we rebuild the jets with competition and
44:04chaos
44:05and anthony hill the numbers speak for itself go watch the tape that's all i'm gonna say
44:10eight sacks he had last year uh four force fumbles he's fucking sorry to curse he's hitting
44:16balls out everywhere he's getting interceptions he's he's all over the place he had eight sacks
44:21two two years ago um you know uh you know tackles for losses he is all over the field and
44:30you know
44:30that's the kind of player that we need and i don't think there's some linebackers in this draft that are
44:36like traditional linebackers he is a guy that can play back and can play up and you kind of like
44:42demario davis in a way remember demario davis or i never wanted him to go yep and he had turned
44:47into an all-pro career it's new orleans so all right now let's move to the second pick in the
44:51second round number 44 uh again the jets got this pick from the dallas cowboys in the quinn and
44:56williams trade they have an opportunity again to get a huge playmaker here and i think if they don't
45:00go wide receiver with makai lemon or one of the top three in the first round i would not be
45:05shocked
45:05if you see one of these wide receivers get picked in omar cooper jr from indiana or jeremy
45:11taking between those two listen man omar cooper jr the more that i watch indiana tape unfortunately
45:17i have to watch fernando mendoza throwing him the ball but um i like him better than elijah surat i
45:22think omar cooper jr fits the build to what you want in a wide receiver as a jeremy bernard by
45:28the way
45:28they're both six foot six one 205 pounds in and out of breaks get every jump ball that they can
45:37physical aggressive run the right routes they're just they're both very similar in a lot of ways
45:43you know my comp for omar cooper jr is dj more with a little bit of sprinkle of pierre garçon
45:47if you
45:48remember pierre garçon uh jeremy bernard jeremy bernard is uh is a chris godwin um and they're both
45:56kind of like a mecca booker remember from last year i just love that kind of prototype as a receiver
46:01um there's a reason they're not going in the first round they may by the way a late first round
46:06but
46:06um they're not projected for the most part they're just quality receivers i think as wide receiver twos
46:12um they'd add a ton of value so out of the out of both them i love me some omar
46:16cooper jr because of
46:17his uh big play ability jeremy bernard's a little bit more controlled in his big play but a little bit
46:23more consistent in in in what he does on underneath so i'd go with uh omar cooper but i like
46:29both those
46:30options yeah i think i think i would take bernard uh and let's give him a wide receiver there i
46:35think
46:35for the rest of this draft they're obviously going to try and address the safety position they're
46:39going to try draft the quarterback position with a backup rookie who are some quarterback names you
46:43think the jets would target in this upcoming draft with frank reich obviously being at the helm and the
46:47head coach now of this offense well listen man i have one quarterback in mind out of this draft that
46:52i'm looking at as a late round flyer and um i think bringing him in just brings another added
46:58dimension to what this team needs and i think it's another added dimension to basically what
47:03any quarterback can do in the nfl um looking at it overall taylon green if you haven't watched
47:11taylon green play football put him on go on youtube.com type in taylon green it's he's a big
47:17developmental project he's a project quarterback but that guy the way that he's able to just dish
47:24out that football and be able to move outside the pocket and able to run the read option the proper
47:29way he's a freak man he's 6'6 and he was measured at the at the senior bowl at 6
47:35'6 so he's not 6'4
47:36and a half or 6'5 he's 6'6 he's 230 pounds he uh he's got a little bit of
47:42cam newton to him some
47:43people said randall cunningham i don't know what he is i i don't know little anthony richardson
47:49sprinkled in but i love his competitive fire that kid loves playing football that kid when he gets
47:56throwing he gets throwing he had the eighth best qbr in college football this past year so it's not
48:00like he's just a scrambling quarterback that can't throw no he can throw he's very inaccurate sometimes
48:06because his mechanics are wonky but he can be very weirdly accurate at other times so kind of reminds
48:12me of cam a little bit um in that regard so um hey i would bring him in and let
48:18him sit and just
48:19see what you got there kind of like a joe milton kind of guy frank reich knows how to develop
48:23quarterbacks maybe he'd learn a thing or two for the future interesting name uh i think the big thing
48:29that we're highlighting here on how to fix the jets is there's no quarterback answer for the jets in
48:33this upcoming draft now that dante moore went back to to oregon for another year the 2027 class
48:39is supposed to and i put that in quotations because we don't really know it's supposed to be a
48:44quarterback heavy class um so in this scenario that we're laying out for the jets that we find is more
48:49realistic is you get the bridge quarterback in brissette i think kirk cousins is a real possibility
48:53here in this scenario too one of those two guys you draft one of these late round flyers no one's
48:58worth
48:58a top 44 pick in this upcoming draft class unless a ty simpson potentially falls into that second round
49:04and you weigh the options you take a playmaker or do you get the quarterback maybe to develop
49:08but the bottom line is is that you have three first round picks going into 2027 this roster that
49:13we're setting up here is giving you a chance to win some games you're not going to be a playoff
49:17team
49:18this jets team is far away from the playoffs they're far away from being truly competitive every single
49:22year but what you can do is build a real foundation here and we laid out some free agent targets
49:27we laid
49:27out what you can do in the draft that's not even mentioning what you can ultimately look at in the
49:30trade market as well if you wanted to go that route but that's the quarterback future i think is aiming
49:35for 2027 to get that real answer the future of this team in the part three of fixing the jets
49:41here
49:41really we can be quick on this is it all comes down to aaron glenn proving if he can be
49:46a viable head
49:46coach here frankie in 2026 there are serious question marks about him he completely overhauled
49:53his entire defensive staff and his offensive staff firing both coordinators only other time that's
49:58happened going into from a rookie coach to a second year coach was hugh jackson and we saw what
50:03happened after that oh and 16 not good so can aaron glenn prove that he can build a build an
50:09actual team that can be somewhat competitive they're gonna have a really tough schedule coming
50:13up in 2026 this we feel like can be a real bridge year for them going into 2027 for that
50:20rookie
50:20quarterback that they want to ultimately either trade up for or where they're ending up picking
50:24and taking their quarterback of the future this to me makes the most sense for the jets
50:30yeah if i was the owner i would say this taron glenn you want to keep your job for 27
50:36i want to see
50:37that defense be somewhat you know special i and i'm not saying good i'm saying somewhat special like
50:44i want to see moments where for a three game stretch you had you know three pick sixes i mean
50:51i want to
50:51see something that i'm like all right this guy may not know anything about offense or may have some
50:57deficiencies because he uh just started coaching a few years ago and doesn't really understand
51:01the whole game yet but uh he can call up a hell of a defense and he could scheme it
51:06up like
51:07mike mcdonald did with seattle you saw some of the schemes he was running he confused the hell out of
51:13those patriots receivers and josh mcdaniels josh mcdaniels has been an oc for forever he's been in
51:18more uh super bowl appearances as an offensive coordinator i think than any coordinator in history
51:23released in the last 30 years what did mcdaniel uh mcdonald do excuse me he confused the living
51:29hell out of yeah aaron glenn you want to be the guy here you want to show your defensive chops
51:34man
51:34exactly and if you don't we're going to look in another direction it's that simple it is that
51:38simple uh look that was a lot we just laid out there frankie between free agency the draft and
51:43where this team is ultimately going in 2026 jets fans let us know what you think about the future
51:47that we let out for how to fix the new york jets it's a loaded question there's a lot of
51:52ways you can go
51:53here uh but we appreciate you as always let us know in the comment section what you think of our
