00:00Jets training camp has officially started for the 2026 season.
00:04Welcome to Gangs All Here. I'm Ryan Sampson.
00:06That's my guy Frankie Viteriti from U Stadium.
00:08Kaz is going to be joining us in a bit.
00:10Frankie, are you excited that football is back and Jets football has officially started?
00:15Man, you know what? I'm like a kid Christmas morning right now.
00:18I am so ready for football, baby.
00:21Now, I'm kind of worried about how this team's going to be a little bit.
00:25But hey, man, it's just great seeing those guys out there. I'm excited, man.
00:29The hope has to be back here. Training camp has officially started.
00:32This is when you get excited. The juice is flowing.
00:35Guys are actually practicing. We're seeing players on the field.
00:37We're getting the reports. We're going to break it all down on today's episode.
00:40Make sure you hit that like and subscribe button on the New York Post Sports YouTube channel
00:43because Frankie and I and Kaz are going to have you covered all season long for Jets football.
00:48Everything, Jets fans. Make sure you hit that like and subscribe.
00:59And of course, we're joined by our Jets beat writer, Brian Costello,
01:02who is reporting from Florham Park at the Jets training camp facility,
01:06which is under construction, obviously.
01:08But training camp has obviously started. It's day one of practice.
01:11And we can't wait to talk with Kaz about it.
01:14But before we get to any of it, how you doing, Mr. Costello?
01:17Joe, back here for another season of Jets football.
01:20Yeah, I'm good. Back at training camp.
01:22You know, it's the beginning of the road.
01:25A lot of optimism. Excited was the word of the day today.
01:29A lot of guys saying how excited they were.
01:31So we'll see how long that lasts.
01:34Oh, man. Don't say that.
01:36No, look, it is.
01:37It is obviously it's for us as fans.
01:41We obviously when football is actually now being practiced,
01:43you get a little more juiced up and it's like, hey, you know,
01:47pads aren't on yet,
01:48but we're getting some real football play between these guys.
01:51But there's a lot to talk about with the comments.
01:54There is availability.
01:55Just you guys are coming off that.
01:57We saw Garrett Wilson, Kingsley Anambari.
01:59We saw Aaron Glenn, obviously.
02:01Darren Mugey spoke today.
02:02But before we get to any of that, I guess for you, Kaz,
02:07how do you approach like day one here in terms of coverage
02:13and the biggest storylines?
02:15Like what are you focusing on?
02:17Like what are you trying to get into your mind ready set
02:20for day one of training camp?
02:22It's more a big picture than anything, Ryan, right now.
02:24I mean, the practice, if you watch practice, you'd be like,
02:27this is an NFL practice because it's very light.
02:29Like they're going, this is, they call it the ramp up period.
02:33I can't remember if it's three days or four days they have to do.
02:36But it's really kind of, there's not a lot of football.
02:41It's drills, it's walkthrough kind of stuff.
02:44They do a few team periods, but it's not intense at all.
02:48Obviously, they don't have pads on.
02:50So you can't get too crazy about the football aspect of things.
02:54Like the line play is not real at all.
02:56Like they're just, they don't have pads on.
02:58So it's more, you know, what's the vibe around the team?
03:01Is what the bigger thing?
03:03And then, you know, how optimistic do they feel?
03:06Aaron Glenn is obviously a big story going into year two.
03:10And then, you know, it's checking off the big names like Garrett today.
03:13It's a story.
03:14Garrett Wilson talking today was interesting.
03:16And, you know, it'll go day by day with, with, with that kind of thing.
03:20Yeah.
03:21Look the vibes, like you said, and getting a check on the morale of the team on day
03:26one is, is certainly interesting, but you know, I I'd be remiss if I didn't talk
03:31to Frankie here and say, what are your vibes coming off vacation?
03:35Because I heard there's another motorized incident.
03:38Oh, please.
03:40Two years in a row now coming off vacation heading into training camp.
03:43Well, technically less than, less than a year because my, uh, my scooter incident
03:48happened in November.
03:49So actually it was eight months ago, um, which my shoulders still hasn't recovered
03:54properly.
03:55Listen, man, I rented a car in Calabria.
03:58You know, it's a tough place to drive.
04:00It's not a, and I, uh, I had a little, I had a little fender bender.
04:05Um, I don't know if I should tell the entire story.
04:08How little of a fender, fender bender?
04:09It was, it was a significant fender or was a significant bender.
04:13If that's the right way to say that.
04:16So it wasn't a fender.
04:17Did they speak English?
04:20A little bit.
04:21Yeah.
04:21Yeah.
04:22Yeah.
04:22It was a, it was an unfortunate situation.
04:25It wasn't like Kyle Shanahan situation.
04:27I'll just throw that out there, which was terrible.
04:29Um, but it, it, yeah, it was, it was, listen in Calabria, you don't know who's in what lane.
04:37People are going to cars in one lane, another car in the other.
04:41I was coming.
04:42Why did you drive?
04:43Why?
04:43What possessed you to rent a car?
04:45Well, well, do you want to know the real story?
04:47I went solo because my family was supposed to go, but then they had a wedding.
04:51My grandmother's in a nursing home.
04:53It was her 96th birthday.
04:55So I went there to see her and I needed to get around.
04:58They come from a town guys.
05:00There's 400 people.
05:01There's not a lot of people in this town.
05:02So what am I going to do all day?
05:04Drink espresso at the one bar in the whole town.
05:06So I said, I wanted to go drive around, go to the beach and you know, the, my beach day
05:11ended with a, you know, a local police report, which, uh, it's in Italian.
05:23Maybe you could translate it.
05:25Costello can get the translation for us.
05:27That's what I know.
05:29So like, so wait a second, a car was coming.
05:32I was switching lanes and, and he had hit me in, in the back left door.
05:36So he hit you.
05:37Yeah.
05:37But I was also a little bit crunched in the other side of the lane.
05:40Now is Calabria, Italy on the opposite side or is it the right side?
05:44It's right side.
05:45It's right.
05:45So, but the, but the lanes aren't really split.
05:47So like, you gotta, gotta figure out your own way.
05:49It sounds like it's a very small town and tough place in there.
05:52How, how small was this car?
05:53Cause you're a big guy.
05:54No, it was a pretty big car.
05:55I probably should've got a smaller car.
05:58The guy at the front desk, when I went to rent the car goes, you know, you're a big
06:02guy.
06:03You say, look on the woman.
06:04He's like, get this car.
06:05I'm like, should I get like a smaller car?
06:07I'm going to be by myself.
06:08Like he goes, no, you're a big guy.
06:09Take the bigger car.
06:10Cause the bigger car costs more money.
06:13And now what happened?
06:14You got into an accident.
06:15Did you get the insurance?
06:16That's the other bit.
06:17I did.
06:17I did.
06:17I did.
06:18I should be all set.
06:18I should be all set.
06:20I'm gonna have to pay a little bit.
06:21Deductibles are deductible.
06:22Guys.
06:23I got to put like a tracker on this guy when he leaves the country and he's on a, on
06:26a motorized vehicle.
06:27It's just unbelievable.
06:29Hey, you know, it's, uh, it's, it's another unfortunate situation with me and, and driving.
06:35I'm actually not a bad driver.
06:37Also, like this notion that I'm, I'm a terrible driver is wrong.
06:41I'll just throw that out there.
06:42Well, look, uh, that is certainly, certainly a way to, uh, come off of vacation.
06:46Uh, but look, cause I do want to get into, to dive into Aaron Glenn's comments.
06:51I think the big thing I took away and I'm interested in your takeaways too.
06:54But the big thing I took away was, is that, um, you know, he's, he's emphasizing, I've
06:59learned from a lot from year one, I'm carrying a new message into year two.
07:04Won't elaborate on the message, what it is.
07:07Um, and I thought he had a funny back and forth with Canizero about, you know, what, what are
07:11some of the things that you've corrected from last year into this year?
07:14Um, but what were your takeaways from Aaron Glenn's first day one presser?
07:21Yeah, that, that was pretty much it.
07:23You know, I think not just this presser, but every time we've talked to him this off season,
07:27we talked about what he's changing and clearly he'd recognized there needed to be changes
07:31made after last season.
07:32And he bounced most of his whole coaching staff, you know, after that was, that's the big change
07:38that we can see for sure.
07:40And, um, so I think he recognized that there were issues and it's understandable first time
07:44head coach, you're going to go through growing pains.
07:46So we'll see if the changes worked.
07:48And then when we talked to Gary Wilson, he was talking about how, you know, if they kind
07:52of have a leadership council and it's a, it's been a little bit better this year than they,
07:56I think they had it last year, but it's a little different because last year they were
08:01so young as a team.
08:03I'm not really sure they didn't have a ton of leaders on the team.
08:06So now they have guys like DeMario Davis and Mika Fitzpatrick, uh, and David and Yamada,
08:11like guys that, that have been through a lot in the league and have seen it and, um, can
08:16help, you know, try to change the culture here and try to change the sort of the mindset
08:21of the losing that's happened here.
08:24And so I think that was interesting to hear too.
08:27Again, what is it?
08:28July 29th.
08:29Yeah.
08:30I always caution for a lot of this.
08:32I can remember years and years ago, hearing about ice cream socials with Santonio Holmes
08:37and Mark Sanchez and Rex's office.
08:40And the two of them hated each other, right?
08:42So it's a lot of this happy talk this time of year.
08:45And, uh, you know, we'll see what happens when the season gets here, but this is what
08:49we've got on July 29th.
08:51Cause when it comes to Aaron Glenn, do you think, because this is something that I can't
08:55wrap my head around.
08:56Do you think it's something where the players have to buy in for him to be successful or
09:02does he have to put together a system that has some X's and O's that are going to work
09:06in our favor throughout the year?
09:08I mean, what do you think?
09:08Do you think last year, the players didn't buy in?
09:11Do you think they need to buy in?
09:12Is, is, how do you feel about his messaging and what he needs to do to be successful?
09:17Yeah.
09:17No, I think they like him, frankly, they bought in.
09:20I think, I think everyone mentions his playing career, right?
09:24I do think that carries a lot of weight with guys when you're a former player.
09:28I mean, I saw that with Todd Bowles.
09:29He had a lot of, he had a lot of credibility with the players because he had played in the
09:34NFL.
09:34It's just something different than, you know, um, what, you know, people always say like
09:40to me or to whoever for like, you never played the game, right?
09:43This is the guy who played the game in the NFL.
09:45So he's got a lot of credibility.
09:46I think it's X's and O's.
09:48Yeah.
09:48I totally think it's X's and O's.
09:49I think they, that's what he needs to fix.
09:52And, you know, we'll see if he does that.
09:54And obviously X's and O's need talent.
09:57So the talent level has to be there too.
09:59You can't just be good with X's and O's and not have the talent.
10:02So I think that combination, that's going to make the difference this year is can the
10:06coaching get better?
10:07And did the changes they made on the roster, did they improve as a team?
10:12Yeah.
10:12Look, cause I think some of that talent they've added was on display a little bit in
10:16practice from, from all the tweets that we've seen about practice and plays that were happening.
10:21I do want to ask you about the, the, the quarterbacks here because I think you, you mentioned it
10:27last week about K club.
10:28Nick will definitely be something that people are going to be paying attention to.
10:31Uh, you got to see him out there and seven on seven and 11 on 11.
10:34Uh, we, we heard, we saw the tweet about the deep past Arian Smith that was dropped.
10:39Let me, let me go.
10:41Let me, let me, let me defend Arian Smith a little bit.
10:44My colleagues who were about 40 yards that way.
10:49And I was, I was actually right in line with where the pass was.
10:52Cause I like to watch from behind the defense.
10:55So it was a nice pass by club, long pass, but it was literally off of his fingertips running
11:02full speed down the field.
11:04It went off of his fingertips.
11:06Should he have caught it?
11:07Yes.
11:08It's the NFL, but not all drops are created equal.
11:11When you tweet that he dropped it, it sounds like it bounced off of his hands here.
11:14And it was a tough, tough, tough catch, but should have made it.
11:18It's the NFL, but I'm defending Arian Smith.
11:21Go ahead, Ryan.
11:22No, no, no.
11:22I'm glad you cleared that up because I, again, this different perspective, like you said,
11:26you're standing on the other side of the field compared to where the other reporters were
11:29at.
11:29So you have a different perspective on it, but overall, what would you say of club Nick?
11:33Because I think going off of what I've, I'm seeing now more and more, especially from
11:37Boomer Siason, who's close with Frank Reich, you know, obviously has a little bit of
11:41intel there talked about Cade Club Nick and how he's impressed, you know, early on from
11:47OTAs and mini camp to now here at training camp.
11:51What were your first impressions of seeing him out there for only the first day of practice?
11:55Yeah.
11:56I mean, he looks fine.
11:57You know, it's again, nothing flashy or anything like that.
12:00My, my overall thought on club Nick is I think they want him to win the number two job.
12:05I think he's going to have every chance given to him to win the job.
12:09So it feels like that's kind of what they're hoping happens.
12:13I don't think they'll force it.
12:14Like if he doesn't look good, they're, you know, we've talked about, could somebody else
12:18be here?
12:18I think that's still definitely, if I had to bet today, I'd still bet somebody else is
12:23going to be here, but I do think they're going to give him every chance to win that
12:26number two job.
12:27So he's going to get a lot of the reps in practice and then preseason games.
12:31I think those preseason games are going to be the Cade Club next show.
12:33I think he's going to play a lot in the preseason games and how he does in those will probably
12:39determine whether he's a number two, but I do think he's going to be given a huge shot
12:44at the job here.
12:45I'll say this cause and Ryan, I, um, I did some diving in on Cade Club, Nick, especially
12:51his 2024 season a few nights ago, actually, after I got back from Italy and, uh, post,
12:57you know, the whole incident with the car, um, no, I'm kidding, but, um, I did some diving
13:03in and Cade Club, Nick, I looked at him.
13:05He likes to make big plays, likes to use his legs actually too.
13:09They were doing even a lot of read option, doing a lot of unique things.
13:12He's a down the field kind of guy.
13:14He doesn't want to pick up small chunks of yards and, and, and beat you that way.
13:19He wants to get the ball going down the field.
13:21The one thing with him and cause I'm curious to see if you ever look out for this or Ryan,
13:26I want to see with Club, Nick, and with any quarterback, and I was thinking about this
13:30with, uh, fields last year, are you hitting the wide receivers on the numbers consistently?
13:38Cause I was watching some Cade throws, uh, in OTAs and, you know, you know, when he does
13:43his own practices kind of hang guys here, here, you want to hit here consistently Gino.
13:49I saw a few throws where he's constantly hitting the guys here with that said with this competition,
13:54do you think there's any chance that, that Cade, assuming he can get better, could he
14:00potentially, if he starts throwing the ball a little bit more accurately, do you think
14:04he has a shot to, uh, you know, compete with Gino for that starting job?
14:09Zero.
14:10No, no, Gino, zero.
14:12Gino's the guy.
14:13Yeah.
14:13Gino is the guy.
14:14I think Club Nick's ceiling right now is the number two.
14:16Now, if, if the season goes South and they're, you know, season's over in October and, you
14:22know, at the end of October, do they maybe give Club Nick the end of the season to see
14:26what he could do?
14:27I can see that.
14:27But in terms of like, could he beat Gino out of that, that's not happening.
14:31He's, uh, I think number two is the ceiling for him right now.
14:33Okay.
14:34Look, and that's, that'd be impressive for a late round pick that they, or mid, mid to
14:37late round pick that they took Club Nick in the draft.
14:40Cause, uh, the other thing that Boomer had talked about in, in, on WFAN the other day
14:45was he mentioned that Club Nick kind of fits that Bill Parcells type of quarterback from
14:51his college career, meaning he didn't turn.
14:53Yeah.
14:53Played a lot of, played a lot of games.
14:55A lot of games.
14:56Almost 50 games.
14:56Almost 50 games.
14:57Use his legs.
14:58Like Frankie said, I think he had over 800 rushing yards, uh, in Clemson over his career.
15:03And he didn't turn the ball over much.
15:05Uh, and we know that Aaron Glenn comes from that Bill Parcells tree and he he's trying to,
15:11you know, emulate, I think a lot of what Bill Parcells obviously in his coaching style,
15:15but in his own way.
15:17So I guess my question to you is, is it makes sense for them to take a swing on a
15:21guy like
15:21this and fit and mold into that system.
15:24They're trying to get like the Bill Parcells like, right.
15:28Uh, I think this is more about Frank Reich.
15:30Okay.
15:31And I do Aaron Glenn.
15:32I think Frank Reich went to Clemson, worked him out and kind of fell in love.
15:37That's, that's the vibe I've gotten since they drafted him.
15:39I think, so I think Frank Reich is the one kind of driving this train.
15:43I think Glenn, you know, is good with it.
15:46He's the head coach, but I do think he's sort of, this is Frank Reich's guy that, that he's
15:51trying to bring along.
15:52Yeah.
15:53It makes sense.
15:54Uh, I do want to go into the, the, the, the comments that you had mentioned before about
15:58Garrett Wilson, uh, you know, talking about the leadership group, I Garrett Wilson.
16:02I it's, it's hard to believe like now this is what you're five for this guy.
16:06And he seems so mature now, uh, just, but he's always been mature in his career.
16:11It feels like, especially when he talks to you guys.
16:12But, uh, I thought it was interesting that he talked about the leadership group that,
16:17that, that Aaron Glenn has formulated with some of the players.
16:20And he kept mentioning like play, play competitive football, right?
16:25Like play meaningful football this year.
16:27Meaningful, meaningful, meaningful football.
16:28That's what he mentioned.
16:30That to me, cause signals like, maybe I'm wrong reading this.
16:35Because Garrett obviously wants to win, but like, there's a little bit of pressure maybe
16:40from, I would say him towards the coaching staff.
16:43Like we need to get going this year.
16:45I don't want to play on a losing team this year.
16:47Or am I reading too much into those comments like usual on day one training camp?
16:51How much of a saying to the coaching staff, Ryan, I just think this is year five for Garrett,
16:55right?
16:55Like he's now no longer a young player.
16:59It's a, he's in, he's in this prime.
17:00He's in the middle of his career.
17:01Um, you know, receivers play, some of them can play into their thirties, uh, but most
17:08of them end around 30.
17:10Uh, so, you know, I think Garrett probably feels that, and it's been a lot of losing
17:16since he's been here.
17:17It's been all the, every season has been a losing season.
17:20Garrett's been very frustrated at different times in his time here.
17:23So, you know, I think he's just, he's just saying he's ready to win.
17:27And I think Garrett's message too, is kind of, he's not worried about 1500 yards or is
17:34he going to score 10 receiving touchdowns?
17:37Is he going to be, you know, on the ESPN top 10 list of receivers?
17:42I think Garrett's message is kind of like, all I care about is winning right now.
17:46And, uh, that's the right message to have, you know, I think.
17:50And so I do think Garrett wears his heart on his sleeve and we've seen him frustrated
17:54at different times here.
17:56And, uh, yeah, I'm sure he's just really, really tired of losing.
18:00Kaz, really quick.
18:01I know, uh, D'Angelo Pons, um, had left practice with a strained calf.
18:06I know you're reporting.
18:07No, he didn't practice and I didn't see him at all.
18:09He had a strained calf.
18:09He strained his calf before this.
18:11So, but they didn't put him on, they didn't put him on a list.
18:15So that means they, they think he's coming back pretty quick.
18:18So you would say what, if you're on a few days, maybe by Saturday, I guess is that Frankie,
18:22because I think if, I think if he was, it was any, any period of time, he would have landed
18:26on the pup list.
18:27Okay.
18:28Um, you know, put guys who are going to be out for a little while.
18:32I think, yeah, I think it's probably a short term.
18:35Glenn said he's not concerned about it.
18:37He'll be fine.
18:38Uh, Garrett Wilson also talked about Adonai Mitchell.
18:40I think that was a theme that was also coming out today.
18:42Uh, just because Adonai is now getting a full off season and, and now the, the start of
18:47the year to be the quote unquote wide receiver two in this offense.
18:51And he called him quote, a ticking time bomb, uh, and adds that he can play alongside him
18:55for now that he can play alongside him for a full season.
18:58Uh, what do you, what do you make?
19:00Do you think Adonai Mitchell can actually be the wide receiver two for this team?
19:04I don't know.
19:05I mean, but that's the million dollar question here, right?
19:07Like that's, that's a huge, huge piece of this is they're a different offense.
19:11If, if he's the guy, like if he's a guy who can get 750, 800 yards, something like that.
19:17Like now you're talking about a different offense.
19:19And I mean, if it's more than that, you're like Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, right?
19:24With 2000 yard receivers, like that'd be incredible, but he hasn't done it in his career.
19:29So that's the talent is there, but it hasn't clicked for him for whatever reason.
19:33And maybe that's coordinator, maybe that's quarterback, maybe it's something else.
19:37So maybe things will click, but that's, this Jets offense looks completely different.
19:40And that night Mitchell comes out and is, is the unquestioned number two wide receiver.
19:46So I think, I think that's what, you know, and Garrett didn't play with him last year.
19:50Remember Garrett was pretty much hurt.
19:52Yeah.
19:52As soon as that guy, I think they may have, I think they technically the Browns game.
19:56I can't remember.
19:56Garrett played against play.
19:58Did I play in that game though?
19:59That was right after the trade.
20:02Yeah.
20:02Yeah.
20:03And so I mean, Garrett was done after the Cleveland game.
20:05So they didn't really play together last year.
20:07So I think, yeah.
20:09And I mean, Garrett's been through how many number two wide receivers since he's been here.
20:12There's been a different guy every year.
20:14It feels like so that we, it would be huge for this offense and Bruce Hall yesterday talked
20:18about the pieces on the offense and just how much better he feels about this offense.
20:22It feels complete to him and Mitchell's just, you know, he's a huge key to this whole
20:26thing.
20:27All right, Kaz, I need to ask you about this because I have a player crush actually, and
20:31it's not David Bailey, believe it or not.
20:33It's not David Bailey.
20:35So you don't have to hear about David Bailey today from me.
20:37Kaz, Aaron Glenn was talking about Kenyon Sadiq and how impressed he was with just how
20:44he looked and how he moved.
20:45Did you get the same sense being out there?
20:48Does Sadiq just flash or there wasn't enough really going on?
20:52It's, it was a light practice, but no, it was, you know, I'm sure he's going to flash.
21:09He's a, like, I'm going to say, he's a very large man that runs a four, three.
21:13I got some, he's got crazy skills.
21:15So I'm sure he's going to have moments, but it was, there was nothing today where I was
21:18like, Oh my gosh, look at Kenyon Sadiq.
21:20He is incredible.
21:21Were there any players, were there any players that did look at, stand out to you?
21:26You're like, wow, that guy's bigger than I thought, or he looks different.
21:29Like, was any of that happening?
21:30Braylon Allen is always that guy.
21:31Like to me, Braylon Allen always looks huge.
21:34Like you see him run through, like he's, he looked good.
21:37I thought all the running backs, I thought Isaiah Davis looked good.
21:40I thought Brees looked good.
21:41I thought all the running backs were running pretty well.
21:43Membu is just like, again, it's, there's no pads on, but usually when there's no pads on
21:48that favors the defensive line, cause I just kind of run past, he swallowed up David Bailey
21:53on this one play.
21:54That was, I just happened to be watching them going against each other.
21:57And he just like, just swallowed him up and Bailey ended up on the ground.
22:01Wow.
22:01It was like, it was just like, wow.
22:03Yeah.
22:03He's just, he's just, he is like, he is tough.
22:07I'll say this for Bailey, I'll just say that for Bailey's sake, I love that he's going
22:12up against guys like Membu and Olo.
22:13That's going to help him out tremendously.
22:15Just throwing that out there.
22:16Well, it's something Kaz and I talked about last week when the pads get on, it's going
22:19to be interesting to see what kind of first off rotation of the defensive line.
22:23But then the second thing is also like, can Bailey start making that impact that you
22:28want to see from a pass rusher, like get in the backfield, get some QB pressures going.
22:32Um, and speaking, I know it's hard to evaluate, um, line play during these type of late practices
22:38cause, but did you notice anything about the rotation of the defensive lineman, considering
22:42there are a lot of bodies on that defensive line?
22:44Not really, Ryan.
22:46And it's kind of hard right now.
22:47Osai is on pup and sweat is on NFI list, right?
22:51So they're not out there.
22:52So you're kind of already two men down who two, I think will be key pieces.
22:57So there wasn't much to glean today from the rotational aspect of it.
23:01Again, it's one practice.
23:01So like, you need to, you need a bigger sample size to try to get to, to see that.
23:05And it's hard in practice sometimes to know what they're doing rotation wise, because
23:11you don't always know the situation they're practicing.
23:14And, um, you know, I just do think sometimes they're just not going to show us what they're,
23:18what they're planning.
23:19Kaz, are you at all concerned?
23:21And Ryan also, are you guys at all concerned with Tavondre sweat being or having an injury?
23:27I know it's not considered serious, given his weight and some of his conditioning concerns
23:32in the past.
23:34Will he be ready?
23:35I mean, how long is it going to take this guy to be ready?
23:37If he gains these big dudes, Ryan, they gain another 10 pounds.
23:42They're unplayable.
23:43Some of them.
23:44Kai Becton, man.
23:44Yeah.
23:45He's 360 pounds.
23:46You can't play at three 90.
23:47I don't think we're three 75.
23:50Yeah.
23:50I think it's a fair concern.
23:51Yeah.
23:52Parcells used to say there, they're a cupcake away from 400 pounds.
23:56It's such a Parcells.
23:59It's like, yeah, it's, yeah, it's a concern.
24:01I think, I think the main concern with him is, can he, can he get on the field and stay
24:07on the field?
24:08And is he motivated?
24:10Those are questions in Tennessee.
24:12So the guy's gigantic when you see him and he was on a side field running today with trainers.
24:18So I think the hamstring is, you know, not too bad.
24:21I believe them.
24:21If the hamstring was really bad, he'd be sitting inside all day.
24:25Yeah.
24:25And it's like, like Kai said, though, it's day one.
24:27Like guys are going to miss time.
24:29Like you'd rather slow play the role if they're coming in with an injury, get them fully healthy
24:33because this is the healthiest point you're going to be with your team pretty much.
24:36Cause going, going for it's also meaningless for a nose tackle right now.
24:41Right.
24:42Totally.
24:43We do want him for week.
24:44We do want him for week one though.
24:46That's his former team.
24:48He's going to really want to get after it.
24:50You know, those big guys and you get them mad and pissed off.
24:52They might have a player too.
24:53So I want him for week one.
24:54I'm just saying against Tennessee.
24:56I think the concern with him in terms of the conditioning wise is if he's injured, can
25:00he do conditioning?
25:01Right.
25:01So if he's injured and he has a hamstring, is he gaining weight because he's not running
25:06because he's not practicing?
25:07Like that's, that's where you start to get worried about sweat.
25:10True.
25:11Kaz, like my final thoughts and question here for you is, is ultimately about this offense
25:16versus defensive, uh, just, uh, messaging and where you think they'll be because, you
25:22know, I think there's a lot of thought about how, you know, special this offense could potentially
25:26be, which is always dangerous.
25:28That game you play, cause you could talk about weapons as much as you want, but until they
25:30put it on the field and make it actually happen as an offense and produce, you really can't
25:35count on them.
25:35But there's the potential of the offense being, you would hope maybe above average a little
25:40bit and not just an average offense, but even an average offense compared to the years past
25:44prior, I should say, you would have a big step up in offensive play, but the defense is really
25:51like they had a horrendous year last year and they've imported a lot of talent on that
25:56side of the ball too.
25:59Which side of the ball do you think actually has a chance to take a real step forward and
26:04be better this year?
26:07I think both do because it was so bad last year, right?
26:10But I will say like today, I thought the defense was pretty, was better than I expected.
26:15Like they, they, the coverage was pretty tight.
26:17They were, they, they looked good defensively, um, today.
26:21So that, that kind of stood out to me.
26:23I, I, the secondary is a big question mark for me.
26:26So that's why I'm going to be watching all of training camp.
26:28But I do think there's potential on both sides, Ryan, to be better because it's hard to
26:32be worse, right?
26:33It's if, if this defense gets one interception, you're, you're feeling pretty good.
26:38It's better than last year.
26:39So there was just so much bad about last year.
26:42I mean, with the defense coordinator got fired in the middle of the season and the offensive
26:47coordinator got fired after the season.
26:49So it's, it was a rough year.
26:51Um, so I, I do think there's potential there for improvement.
26:54I, the obvious thing on offense is that Gino, I think everyone thinks Gino's going to do
26:58better than fields.
26:59So that automatically makes you better on offense.
27:02Guys.
27:03I have a bone to pick with, uh, with a company out there.
27:06I just want to throw this out there.
27:07EA sports.
27:08I have a bone to pick with you.
27:10Speaking of, uh, top players and offense to no one's surprise, the jets are not a top
27:1410 offense in the game this year, but Brees hall is on a top 10 running back ranked.
27:21It's not a top, it's not top 10 ranked at running back.
27:24Actually, Kyron Williams is ranked above Brees hall, Kenneth Walker, Josh Jacobs, and Garrett
27:29Wilson's on a top 10 wide receiver ranked.
27:32So they, they did our jets dirty this year, Ryan and cause, you know, I, I mean, look,
27:37I don't know if you guys paid attention to the ESPN lists, the Germany job on those.
27:41He was on the polls executives.
27:43Brees was on the top 10, but Garrett was not.
27:45Garrett was in like the honorable mention or votes category.
27:50Yeah.
27:51And Brees was the only, I think Brees was the only jet in a top, in the top 10 in
27:55that
27:55thing.
27:55So yeah, Garrett, it's interesting.
27:58Like I don't think non-jets fans view him as a top 10 receiver, Frankie.
28:03I just don't.
28:04And then there's a ton of good receivers right now.
28:06That's part of it.
28:07Yeah.
28:07But I'm interested to see if Garrett, like what Garrett has to do to sort of get in that
28:11category.
28:12And, um, obviously winning would help winning would help.
28:17Uh, and I think consistent quarterback play is going to help.
28:20Yeah.
28:21Him this year as well.
28:22Yeah.
28:22And yeah, that's the thing.
28:23I think, I think watching Garrett, you appreciate him more.
28:26Everything.
28:27Like I always say the Garrett's best game to me was this, was the last game of his rookie
28:34season was in Miami.
28:35And they like, no one was playing.
28:37I remember that game.
28:38He was dicing.
28:40It was a horrible game.
28:41Yeah.
28:41And Flacco was the quarterback.
28:43Yeah.
28:43It was like, it ended up being, uh, what did it end up being 11, six, the game, right?
28:49It was a horrible game.
28:50Like Garrett was just, Garrett was like open all day long.
28:54And like he, and like, he was the only, only guy I like, you have to guard if you're Miami.
28:59And so like he, he's, you kind of have to watch him a lot to appreciate him.
29:04I feel like.
29:04And so maybe he'll get his due at some point.
29:07Yeah.
29:08Uh, and, and look, he's going to have to prove it this year too, that he can with consistent
29:14quarterback play.
29:15I think he's also got to be able to beat some of these number one corners up a little bit
29:18more and get on the, and show the ability to get open consistently.
29:22Um, and, and, and I think if he can show that consistency, I think he'll show the numbers
29:27that he can actually be a top 10 wide receiver in football this year.
29:29But we've always talked about the potential of Garrett, like how great he is because we've
29:33seen his ability to separate and his, and his ability, especially yards after catch and
29:37these contested catches, he's incredible, but it's gotta be more consistent in my opinion.
29:42If he wants to be viewed as a top 10 wide receiver.
29:44I'll also say this.
29:45I'd love to see him in more positions where he's actually taking the top off the defense
29:50because I don't think we've even hit anywhere close to even a floor as to Garrett Wilson as
29:55just a deep threat down the field.
29:57He's always trying to do everything underneath.
29:59I think with Omar Cooper jr, Kenyan Sadiq now, assuming the offense can get something
30:03going, I think you can start seeing Garrett down the field a bit more.
30:06Uh, I lied.
30:08One more thing cause Kenyan Sadiq, uh, Frankie had mentioned him before Glenn had talked
30:12about him today and how much he, you know, he's excited about this guy.
30:16There has been, I think this stat from Mike clay, uh, wide receivers, uh, tight ends drafted
30:21in the first round have finished with a, a top 15 finish in fantasy football the last
30:26couple of years, meaning stats wise, they've actually performed pretty well their first
30:30year in the NFL.
30:31But we talked about this Mason Taylor last year.
30:35They, they give a record, a contract, they draft Sadiq so high in the draft.
30:40I just, is there even enough like for him to produce as a top 15 NFL tight end in his
30:47first year with the room he's in right now?
30:50Yeah, I don't think so, Ryan.
30:53And I have to look at those guys.
30:54I imagine one of them was Bowers.
30:56Right.
30:56And like, he basically is like the only option they had in Las Vegas.
31:00Right.
31:00He's the number one guy was, um, it was the, it was also Tyler Warren last year.
31:06Correct.
31:07Again, like he kind of walked in as like, totally their second option, but he's number number
31:11second option behind out of Pierce.
31:13I don't think Sadiq is that guy right now in terms of like, like, so I wouldn't expect
31:21him to be a top 15 fantasy season.
31:25That would surprise me.
31:26I'll say this though.
31:26If you look at that list though, you're talking like out of, out of all the tight ends.
31:30Yeah.
31:30If you look at like the 12th or 13th tight end on that list, it's no one that's going
31:33to blow your socks off.
31:35You know?
31:35Yeah.
31:35Yeah.
31:35I was going to say 15, 15 is pretty, that's a pretty big list for tight ends.
31:38Yeah.
31:39So I'd like to look at the list and I'm not a huge fantasy guy.
31:42So I'm thinking in my head, like if you're going to name the top 15 tight ends, that's
31:46a pretty deep list.
31:48Like you're, there's not that many elite tight ends in the NFL.
31:51Like it's not going to 15.
31:53It's not only receiver where, where that, that's, it's still the 15th best receiver is still
31:57pretty going to put up big numbers.
32:00Well, so like Trey McBride, Dallas Goddard, Kyle Pitts, Hunter Henry, Travis Kelsey, Harold
32:05Fannin, Tyler Warren's a first rounder.
32:07Brock Bowers is a first rounder.
32:09Colston Loveland finished ninth last year.
32:11He was a first rounder.
32:12Right.
32:13He was a first round pick.
32:14Colston Loveland for the bears.
32:15Yes.
32:15Yeah.
32:15He was the first one picked.
32:16George Kittle was not a first round pick.
32:18Juwan Johnson was not a first round pick.
32:20Dalton Schultz was a first round pick.
32:21So, and Dalton Kincaid finished 15th and he was a first round pick for the, for the bills
32:25a couple of years ago.
32:26So look, a lot of those guys aren't first round picks, but I think the, again, I agree
32:32with you.
32:32So he might get there.
32:33Like you got your name and guys who like, he might get there in a few years.
32:36I'm talking about rookie year.
32:37They're right.
32:37I'm not sure if he's going to be, I'm not sure he's going to be a Brock Bowers.
32:41Like, I just don't see that, you know, because he, he's just the guy, but could he emerge
32:46though?
32:47Right.
32:47Like, so I think you, you, since we're talking about Adonai Mitchell and like the potential
32:51to be the wide receiver too.
32:52And Brees Hall, we expect to be at least involved in the passing game, but it feels like there's
32:58really an open spot for him.
33:00If he can emerge and let's say they really do incorporate him into this offense because
33:05they like his athletic ability.
33:06Could he emerge ultimately as the number two receiving threat on this team and finishes
33:11the season as a second leading receiver behind Garrett Wilson?
33:14That would surprise me.
33:16It could happen, but that would surprise me.
33:18Kaz, there's a sentiment or there's a thought going on on Jets Twitter or Jets social or
33:23by Jets fans where there's a big portion of them that don't really believe Kenyon Sadiq's
33:29going to have much of a year at all.
33:31And they're still looking at Mason Taylor as having his quote unquote, you know, semi breakout
33:37year this year.
33:38I think it's going to be the opposite.
33:40If you want my honest opinion, I think, I think Sadiq's too freakish of a player that
33:44yeah, he, I don't think he's going to finish top 15, but I think Mason Taylor as a receiving
33:51threat, I don't think we're going to see him reach anywhere close to the ceiling.
33:57We thought last year, I think he'll be a guy that will get, you know, big first downs for
34:03us might get some, some nice red zone opportunities or touchdowns for us.
34:07But I think Sadiq guys is going to surprise a lot of people.
34:10I do, I think we're all looking at those, you know, the Vernon Davis's of the world and
34:15the, and the OJ Howard's and we're like, Oh, we might've made the wrong pick there.
34:19It's possible.
34:20But I, I'm seeing that though a lot on Jets Twitter cause like when you start going into
34:25spaces and stuff, you're going to see that they're, they're asking questions like that
34:28about, you know, what do you think about the tight end room?
34:30Are they going to get over, you know, 850 yards on the year?
34:33I mean, I've been, that's kind of been like a common theme across the board.
34:38So mean streets of Jets, Twitter cause runs them streets, man.
34:42They love them out there.
34:44Well, he pays it.
34:45He makes sure to keep an eye on it.
34:47Vernon Davis had a solid career though.
34:49It was a tight end.
34:50I was, yeah, it took him what is this?
34:51I think it's the third or fourth year.
34:52Fourth year.
34:53Yeah.
34:53Yeah.
34:5313 touchdowns.
34:54Yeah.
34:55Cause we like city.
34:56I like city for the record.
34:57I liked him.
34:58I know you do.
34:58I thought I've said this before.
34:59I really thought he was, he, when I started watching Dante more, I was like, who's this
35:03guy?
35:03Like he's, he was amazing.
35:05Playmaker.
35:06I think he has potential, but like, we just, you got to see it.
35:09Like, you got to see, you know, it's hard.
35:10It's hard as a rookie.
35:12It's a, it's a big jump and he missed all spring.
35:14So now he's basically kind of behind a little bit there.
35:17And Glenn said, they're kind of easing him in today.
35:21So then he's another one, but he'll hope, I'm going to guess he's going to play a decent
35:24amount of preseason games and he's going to have to do it there.
35:27Cause we appreciate you, man.
35:29Thank you as always for giving us all your insight.
35:30Uh, and we're looking forward to your coverage throughout training camp.
35:33And we're looking forward to catching up with you next week, man.
35:37All right.
35:37Let's do QB stats next time, guys.
35:40Let's do it.
35:41And let's go to dinner guys.
35:42I'll drive or I'll pick us all up.
35:43We'll go to get a nice dinner.
35:46Uber.
35:51Thanks guys.
35:52All right.
35:53See ya.
35:54See ya.
