25 June - National afternoon forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth
Transcript
00:00Last night the June minimum temperature record for the UK was broken in Cardiff and today
00:06is set to be another record breaker with extreme heat warnings in force across much of southern
00:12England as well as Wales with amber and red extreme heat warnings in force. We're expecting
00:18the highest temperatures to be across parts of south Wales in through parts of Gloucestershire
00:23into the central southern coast as well where temperatures will widely be into the mid possibly
00:28higher 30s. We could see temperatures as high as 36 or 37 degrees today. We're expecting impacts to
00:36the general population both health impacts as well as further delays to infrastructure throughout the
00:42next couple of days as the heat continues into the rest of this week before it finally eases
00:48into this weekend but today brings more very strong sunshine. We do have an onshore breeze across more
00:54eastern areas so it is going to be a slightly cooler day for many eastern areas of the UK with
00:59temperatures in the 20s for some areas but the heat will return in these areas into tomorrow.
01:04Further west very strong sunshine, high pollen levels as well throughout this week. You can see
01:10temperatures particularly across areas of south Wales into parts of Gloucestershire, Somerset that's
01:16where we could see temperatures around 37 degrees. Parts of Wiltshire and Hampshire also seeing another
01:22very hot day but a little bit cooler across the east coast with just temperatures in the high 20s
01:27and for the far north and west temperatures in the mid teens for some areas as there's a weather front
01:32across the far northwest but that brings a risk of thunderstorms throughout tonight and through
01:37Friday. We'll also see some thunderstorms across parts of south west England, south Wales throughout
01:42this evening and then overnight these areas push into parts of northern England and southern Scotland so
01:47potentially a bit of a lively night to come but it is going to be another very warm night. Temperatures
01:53likely to be staying above 20 degrees for much of central southern England as well as Wales. Further
02:00north slightly fresher than elsewhere and it is after a slightly cooler day going to be a little bit cooler
02:05just tonight across the north and east coast of England. So a little bit of respite but as I mentioned
02:11the heat does return into Friday as that onshore wind disappears. Now there could be some rain around
02:17first thing we're expecting thunderstorm risk through much of Scotland throughout much of the day on
02:22Friday. There is a warning in force here and then there is a red warning in force for some areas
02:27of
02:27southeastern England as temperatures are set to climb back up to the higher 30s through Friday. So we'd like
02:33to see further disruption. You will need to make modifications to your plans. Make sure you follow
02:38local advice and stay as cool as best as you can throughout Friday. Temperatures are expected to
02:44climb in to the mid to high 30s across more eastern areas, in the lower 30s across parts of Wales,
02:50central England but notice the temperatures in the 20s across the southwest. That's a big difference
02:55from today. This is the temperature comparison from Thursday to Friday. For much of Wales,
03:01southwestern England as well as parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland it is going to be a much cooler
03:06day on Friday with temperatures widely in the 20s of degrees. Still the high 20s so it's still pretty hot
03:12day,
03:12still hotter than or warmer than average. But across the east that's where we're going to see
03:18the temperatures return to more exceptional values for the time of year and for the UK alone with
03:25temperatures in excess of 37 degrees possible throughout Friday. So plenty of strong sunshine
03:33still into the latter part of the evening. It's going to be another warm night on Friday night and into
03:38Saturday. We've still got those extreme heat warnings in force for many areas of the eastern
03:43areas of England. We do start to lose that heat across the west though through Friday evening and into
03:48Saturday. And there's the further risk of thundery downpours across the far north and west. That's due to
03:54this area, this weather front. Then there is a change into the weekend. Low pressure arrives. That's
03:59thanks to the return of the jet stream to introduce incredibly fresher air. So it's going to be a big
04:04difference
04:08today to come. Make sure you stay tuned throughout the next few days. We'll have all the latest for
04:13you on our YouTube channel and of course on our app. See you again soon. Bye bye.
