00:00Many places, especially in the south, are crying out for some much-needed rain.
00:05Whilst there's a bit of rain on the horizon for next week, there's not much to come this weekend.
00:10One thing that is a bit of a change is the slightly fresher feel to things compared to what we
00:16had earlier on this week.
00:18We do have high pressure dominating, sitting just to the southwest of us,
00:23but a slight change in our wind directions means more of the air is coming from the north rather than
00:27the south,
00:28which is why, as we go into the weekend, temperatures will be a little bit lower.
00:31You'll probably notice it overnight and then during the daytime tomorrow as well.
00:36Worth bearing in mind, with a lot of sunshine, especially across the south,
00:39even though temperatures will be lower than they have been, it's still going to be pretty warm
00:44and we could see temperatures rising again into next week.
00:48More on that in a second.
00:49Back to this evening, showery rain continues across northern areas, Scotland in particular,
00:54but also across some parts of Northern Ireland, parts of Northern England,
00:58maybe Western Wales, could even see a few showers feeding into parts of the southwest
01:02and perhaps coastal parts of East Anglia and Kent a few showers overnight.
01:07Elsewhere, though, a lot of dry weather, eastern parts of Scotland,
01:10much of England and Wales, eastern parts of Northern Ireland as well,
01:13having a generally dry night with some clear skies.
01:16Then we have that fresher air that I mentioned as a result.
01:19Yes, temperatures will be down a few degrees compared to recent nights.
01:22It's still in the north, many places just about staying in double digits,
01:27a few places prone spots getting into low single figures perhaps,
01:30but further south, south and east, it's still relatively warm.
01:35London, for example, holding up in the mid-teens,
01:37but that is down a couple of degrees compared to some recent nights.
01:41So a fine start across central southern parts of the UK,
01:45more showery start to the day on Saturday further north.
01:48Initially, the showers start off mainly across western parts of Scotland,
01:52but they will feed a bit further eastwards through the day.
01:55Actually, by the middle of the afternoon,
01:57many of them will be starting to clear away across eastern parts of Scotland.
02:01And so central western areas here, where we've seen quite a few showers recently,
02:06it's going to be much drier, much sunnier by the end of the day.
02:09More sunshine to come across parts of Northern Ireland,
02:11and actually the bulk of England and Wales having a largely fine sunny day,
02:14just a few dotted showers here and there.
02:17Now, temperatures are going to be a little bit lower, like I said,
02:20than earlier on in the week.
02:22But as I mentioned, still with that sunshine,
02:24generally light winds in the south, it's still feeling warm,
02:27even if temperatures aren't much nearer normal.
02:29A bit fresher than this towards the north-northwest,
02:32but as that showery rain clears away and we see more sunshine,
02:35well, again, here it should feel relatively warm in that sunshine.
02:39Later on Saturday, we still see a few showery outbreaks continue
02:42across the far north of Scotland,
02:44but otherwise it's actually largely dry, lots of clear skies.
02:47As a result, it could actually be a little bit chillier through Saturday night
02:52than it will be through this coming night.
02:54So some places more likely to drop into low single figures across parts of Scotland,
02:58can't rule out a touch of grass frost.
03:01And further south, temperatures may be down a degree or so, that kind of thing.
03:04So it's still warm, but not as warm as it has been, perhaps.
03:07Notice there's a swathe of cloud out towards the west-southwest.
03:11That's because of a weather system that's trying to push its way in from the Atlantic,
03:15but it doesn't make much progress through Sunday.
03:17So apart from a fair bit of cloud, perhaps across central parts through Sunday morning,
03:22for many places it's going to be a dry day,
03:25with a fair amount of bright, if not sunny, weather to be had.
03:28It's just this feature in the west that we need to pay attention to.
03:32There's been uncertainty, model discrepancies,
03:34as to exactly how far east it's going to make its way.
03:37But it looks like the majority of the rain will stay further west.
03:41And whilst there will be some wet weather across the Republic of Ireland
03:43and perhaps western parts of Northern Ireland,
03:46can't rule out a few spots of rain reaching western parts of England and Wales as well.
03:49Yes, many places will stay dry.
03:51Temperatures, if anything, on Sunday look like they'll be ever so slightly higher
03:55for many of us compared to Saturday.
03:57So a greater chance of getting more widely into the mid, possibly high 20s.
04:01Then into next week, and, well, we do see a slight change.
04:05We still have this low pressure to the west of us,
04:08so that's going to help drag in some air from the south.
04:11So I'm expecting temperatures in the south on Monday to rise higher.
04:15Low 30s looks quite likely again for some places, especially around the southeast.
04:20Meanwhile, we see wetter weather across northern parts,
04:23and this rain could turn quite heavy.
04:24You could see some relatively high rainfall totals building up through Monday
04:28and through the next few following days next week.
04:31There will also be some rain across southern parts next week,
04:34but perhaps not a huge amount, not enough to help alleviate
04:37some of the ongoing issues we have because of how dry it has been this July.
