29 April - National afternoon forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.
Transcript
00:00Warm in the strong sunshine but feeling cold in the wind for many parts of the UK, especially
00:06towards the south of the country during Wednesday because we've got high pressure sitting in
00:12the North Sea and on the periphery of that high, relatively tightly packed isobars bringing
00:16strong gusty winds to the south and especially the southwest with gusts around some headlands
00:22of the southwest exceeding 50 miles an hour. So that notable wind will continue through
00:27the afternoon, some cloud and some showers just flirting with parts of Cornwall but for
00:34the vast majority it's cloud-free skies and it's going to feel very pleasant in the strong
00:40sunshine with temperatures reaching the high teens and low twenties in places, warmest spots
00:46western Scotland, the south and southwest of England as well as Wales but in the wind it
00:52will feel considerably colder especially in the south and the east and that might mask
00:57the fact that we've got high UV levels across many parts of England and Wales, moderate for
01:02Scotland and Northern Ireland so if you're spending time outdoors bear that in mind.
01:07Overnight we keep the clear skies in most places but some low cloud will creep into the east
01:12of Scotland, the far northeast of England and also see a thickening of the cloud for the
01:17southwest of England, parts of Pembrokeshire, Northern Ireland. Some patches of cloud move
01:22in and we'll see outbreaks of rain move into parts of Cornwall as well as the west of Devon.
01:29Continuing windy here, in fact the winds peak during the evening and so we're going to see
01:34because of that wind temperatures remaining in the double figures across the south and southwest
01:38but where winds are a little lighter further north single figures if not the mid to low single figures
01:44across sheltered parts of Scotland and Northern England. Now heading into Thursday morning we've got
01:49those cloud free skies to start things off but again cloudier and with some showery rain for parts
01:56of Cornwall tending to ease although I think the Isles of Scilly will keep it through much of the day.
02:02Western parts of Northern Ireland also seeing some patchy cloud and perhaps some rain later.
02:07Meanwhile the winds change direction rather than easterdies we're seeing south easterdies and they'll bring
02:11higher temperatures, a warmer feel certainly warmer across eastern parts of the country and inland temperatures
02:18reaching the low 20s fairly widely. Thursday evening brings more clear skies for many places especially
02:25towards central and eastern parts of the country. Cloudier in the far west with outbreaks of rain
02:30arriving into Northern Ireland eventually fizzling away but it's this system to the west that will
02:35gradually start to influence things into Friday and more especially the weekend. We're going to see
02:40an increase in the showers and perhaps some longer spells of rain especially in the south for this weekend
02:46but it won't be a washout there will be some drier weather at times as well. We'll keep you updated
02:50right here.
