06 June - National morning forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth
Transcript
00:00Good morning, an unseasonably windy day to come for some of us, particularly across the southwest.
00:06As an area of low pressure has moved in overnight to bring some very strong gale force gusts to parts
00:11of southwest England, west Wales.
00:13And later on, the south coast of England, you can see the strength of those winds here and the gust
00:18graphic.
00:18It's not just the wind, there's also some heavy rain out there to come, particularly wrapped around this area of
00:23low pressure on the cold front as that pushes north and eastwards.
00:27It will brighten up a little bit across more western areas this afternoon, but there's still a risk of some
00:31quite heavy and thundery downpours,
00:34particularly across parts of northern Ireland, northwest England and into parts of Wales too.
00:39But it should turn drier by the end of the afternoon across Devon and Cornwall after a pretty damp and
00:44very windy start to the day.
00:46Having said that though, temperatures still struggling to get above average will be in the mid to high teens at
00:51best.
00:52So very limited sunshine for most of us this afternoon.
00:55But it should be a bit of a brighter evening across more western areas as this ridge of high pressure
01:00moves in just for a time to bring many of us a more settled day into Sunday.
01:05I say many of us because there is more rain on the way by Sunday morning across the north and
01:10west.
01:11Northern Ireland, as well as western Scotland, will probably see the heaviest rain through Sunday.
01:16So quite a lot of cloud around, some clearer skies here and there, but with the strength of those southwesterly
01:20winds overnight, it's going to be a pretty mild start to Sunday.
01:25Now this area of low pressure up to the northwest brings the heaviest rain, a weather front wrapped around that,
01:30pushing into Northern Ireland and western Scotland through the day on Sunday.
01:34So a pretty damp and windy day here.
01:36That rain pushes into northwest England and Wales later on in the afternoon.
01:41Elsewhere, it should be a relatively dry day, comparatively much drier than today, at least across eastern areas.
01:47Some sunshine, too.
01:49Southwesterly winds, as well, means we've got relatively mild air.
01:52So temperatures will climb into the 20s for the first time in a little while across more southeastern areas.
01:58So not a bad day to come across eastern areas on Sunday, but I think quite an unsettled picture across
02:04the north and west.
02:05And we've got more unsettled weather to come into the start of the second week of summer.
02:10Low pressure still dominating our weather.
02:12Weather front sinks south and eastwards through the day on Monday to bring many of us a spell of wet
02:17weather.
02:18And there is more of that to come into next week as well.
02:20Lots of showers.
