00:00It might be good news for many people. Things are set to turn fresher through into Friday and more so
00:06this weekend.
00:06Before that, though, it is still hot across many parts of the UK at the moment.
00:11We have high pressure to the east and that's dragging in air from the south, which is why temperatures are
00:15so far above average.
00:17And with the heat and the humidity, we've seen a fair few showers developing already today,
00:22some of them turning heavy and thundery, particularly across northern parts of England, some towards the southwest.
00:27Now, many of them are going to be clearing away, but it's always going to be quite tricky to be
00:32too precise with any thundery showers that could develop through this afternoon.
00:36So do watch out. There could be a couple developing here and there.
00:40Most places, though, having a lot of dry weather and a fair amount of sunshine, perhaps not as much sunshine
00:46as we've seen through recent days.
00:48But nonetheless, it is going to be bright for most and in the sunshine feeling pretty hot indeed.
00:53With the uncertainty about the cloud cover and also any showers developing, exactly how hot it's going to get, perhaps
01:00a little bit trickier to predict than it was earlier on in the week.
01:04But nonetheless, I'm expecting temperatures in the low 30s yet again towards the south.
01:0731, 32 looks quite likely, 33 Celsius, not out of the question, towards the southeast.
01:13And worth highlighting that actually across parts of northern Scotland with that hot air from the south pushing its way
01:19all the way across the country.
01:21Well, across northern Scotland, temperatures likely to be the highest that we've seen so far this week, mid to possibly
01:27high 20s here.
01:29Later on through the evening, staying mostly dry.
01:32Any showers that do develop largely dying out for most of us.
01:35Just watch out across parts of western Northern Ireland, more so northwestern Scotland.
01:38Here, showery rain feeding in through the early hours of tomorrow morning and some of that could be quite heavy
01:44as well.
01:45Most places, though, having a dry night, some cloud here and there, still that hot air across us.
01:51Temperature's not dropping a huge amount.
01:53Mid-teens for many of us, so it is going to be another mild or warm, sticky night.
01:58Uncomfortable for some for sure.
02:01Then looking ahead and worth highlighting that actually we do have this weather system towards the northwest.
02:06That's going to continue as we go through Friday.
02:09But I wanted to highlight the fact that we have the hot air across much of the UK.
02:13It's clinging on in the southeast as we go through Friday, but fresher air is coming in.
02:18We are going to see temperatures dropping through the next few days.
02:22So Friday, a bit of a cloudy picture compared to recent days for many areas.
02:27Some strata, some low cloud in places.
02:30Further rain across parts of Scotland, particularly towards the northwest.
02:33Some blustery winds as well.
02:34Meanwhile, across southern and southeastern parts, there will be a bit of showery rain pushing through.
02:39Here we cling on to the hot air.
02:40So again, temperatures in the high 20s for some towards the southeast.
02:45But elsewhere, with that fresher air that I just showed you, well, temperatures will be markedly down on recent days.
02:50Through the end of the day on Friday, still quite damp across northern parts of the UK.
02:55Showers clinging on across parts of the southeast.
02:57Elsewhere, turning largely dry.
02:59Lots of clear skies as we go into the weekend.
03:01But what does this weekend look set to bring?
03:03Well, the weather does look likely to be a bit more unsettled than we've seen of late.
03:08We are seeing temperatures dropping.
03:09Yes, we'll have some rain at times, but also perhaps some hefty, showery downpours.
03:14So do watch out for those.
