28 April - National afternoon forecast presented by Alex Burkill.
Transcript
00:00Hello, very good afternoon to you. There was a bit more cloud around this morning than we've seen through some
00:05recent days.
00:06And actually, if we look at the pictures from space, the earlier satellite imagery, we can see just how cloudy
00:11it was across much of the country.
00:13We do have a front, a weak occluded front that's pushing its way from east to west at the moment.
00:19And this is part of the reason that there's so much cloud around and also why there are a few
00:24outbreaks of rain, a few spots of rain this morning.
00:26And they're all pushing their way further westward.
00:30So as we go into the afternoon, we're going to see a bit of rain across parts of South Wales
00:34and across parts of southwest England as well.
00:36Not particularly heavy, but just, yeah, a little bit damp at times here.
00:40Elsewhere, and whilst it was largely cloudy this morning, we're seeing sunnier weather, clearer skies coming in from the east.
00:46So eastern parts are starting the afternoon largely sunny, and that sunshine will filter its way a bit further westward.
00:53It's not clearing the cloud entirely, but yes, most places turning brighter and sunnier as we go through the day.
00:59Worth bearing in mind, we do have slightly fresher air across us compared to yesterday's, the temperatures for most a
01:04few degrees down.
01:05Generally, though, we're looking at highs in the mid-teen Celsius, so about average for the time of year.
01:11Just a bit fresher towards some north-sea coastal parts with the winds coming in from the sea.
01:15And also worth bearing in mind, we do have some brisk winds around.
01:18High pressure is in control at the moment, yes, but the further away from the high you are, particularly towards
01:24the south, it is going to be quite blustery.
01:26And those blustery winds will make it feel cooler than those temperatures suggest.
01:31Later on then, through the evening and overnight, we are going to see most places having largely clear skies.
01:37Most of the cloud will clear away, and it will just be a bit of cloud developing across perhaps parts
01:42of Scotland, northern England, and northern Ireland through the night.
01:46But, yeah, most places having largely clear skies.
01:48And with those clear skies, then, when we compare it to last night, when we had that blanket of cloud
01:52across us, stopping temperatures generally dropping particularly low,
01:56through this coming night with those clearer skies, well, it is going to turn a little bit chillier.
02:01Not everywhere, some places seeing temperatures holding up in high single figures or low double digits, particularly towards coastal parts
02:07in the south where we have those gusty winds.
02:10But most other areas with those clearer skies and where the winds are lighter, we could see a touch of
02:16frost in a few places first thing on Wednesday morning.
02:18So, a bit of a chilly start, but a bright start for most of us, much sunnier than through this
02:23morning.
02:24Any cloud that does develop overnight, that will quickly clear away.
02:27And then, apart from a bit of cloud, maybe a bit of rain around the tip of Cornwall, it is
02:32looking like a dry day, almost wall-to-wall blue sky for the vast majority of us.
02:37And with that, then, temperatures are set to be even higher than today, mid-to-high teens quite widely, low
02:4420s for some places towards the south.
02:46So, feeling pretty warm indeed if you're in the shelter from that wind, because there will still be some brisk
02:52winds towards the south in particular,
02:54and they'll take around 5 or 6 degrees off the temperatures that you see here.
02:58With all the sunshine, one thing that we do need to bear in mind is the UV levels.
03:03moderate across Scotland and Northern Ireland, high for parts of, or much of, England and Wales.
03:10So, do take precautions if you're going to be out in that sunshine for any long periods of time.
03:15More settled weather to come as we go through the rest of the week.
03:17May not last through the bank holiday weekend, however.
03:20Aidan will have more information about that in this week's Deep Dive.
03:23I'll see you again soon. Bye-bye.
