00:00Hello, very good day to you. If you've been outside already today, well, you'll have no doubt noticed the cold,
00:05raw feel to things,
00:07and there's a reasonable chance you'd have been caught out by a shower as well, because there have been plenty
00:13of showers already,
00:14and we do have some brisk winds. Here we have the satellite picture behind me, and I just get the
00:20pressure pattern up,
00:22because there's low pressure to the northeast of us and high pressure towards the southwest,
00:25and because we're sandwiched in between those two, well, we do have those strong, blustery winds, which is adding to
00:32the cold feel to things,
00:33and as I mentioned, we've already seen plenty of showers developing. They are rattling through on those blustery winds coming
00:41in from the northwest.
00:42Some of those showers have already been heavy. There's been some snow, some hail mixed in with them,
00:47and that's what we're going to continue to see as we go through the afternoon.
00:50Most places are likely to see some of those showers, perhaps more likely to be heavy with some hail towards
00:56the northwest,
00:57and always towards the north, more likely to see any wintryness, so some sleet, some snow, a bit of lying
01:03snow over some of the modest higher ground of Scotland in particular.
01:07But even further south, a little bit of wintryness. Don't be surprised if you see the odd flurry of snow,
01:12because it is cold out there, temperatures well below average, most places staying in single figures,
01:20just about scraping into double digits towards the far south of the UK.
01:24And whilst there will be some sunny breaks around, there are also those strong winds to watch out for,
01:30and when you factor those in, well, it's going to feel even colder.
01:33Most places feeling around freezing or a few degrees above, some places feeling a sub-zero.
01:40So yes, a bitterly raw day there for many of us.
01:44As we go later on, sticking with the showery theme, for a little while yet, there could be some pulses
01:48of showery rain and sleet and hill snow,
01:50perhaps pushing across parts of Wales into southern England as we go overnight.
01:55But actually, for many, things are going to be turning drier.
01:58There's still some showery bursts towards the northwest, perhaps, and a few coastal spots elsewhere.
02:03But generally, it is going to be largely dry as we go through the early hours of Thursday morning.
02:08And the winds will be easing a little bit as well.
02:10And so with that then, yes, it is going to turn pretty cold, even colder than it will have been
02:15during the daytime.
02:16Temperatures for many getting close to freezing.
02:19In some places, it will drop below.
02:21Around the Shelter Glen's of Scotland, for example, we could be looking at temperatures as low as minus five, minus
02:26six,
02:26maybe even a few degrees colder than that.
02:29And so it is going to be bitterly cold first thing tomorrow morning on Thursday.
02:33And with that, there will be fairly widespread frost, particularly across the northern half of the UK,
02:39but even further south, a few pockets of frost.
02:41And also watch out for some icy patches as well.
02:44They could be quite slippery, so it could cause some problems on pavements and on roads.
02:49But yes, it's a crisp, frosty start for some of us Thursday morning, but quite a bright one.
02:54And across the bulk of England and Wales, we cling on to the largely fine weather through into the afternoon.
03:00But towards the northwest, so Scotland and Northern Ireland and far northern northwestern parts of England and Wales,
03:06cloud will be spreading in and there will be some outbreaks of rain as well.
03:10The wind's starting to pick up again towards the northwest as that system pushes its way across.
03:16Temperatures are going to be ever so slightly higher tomorrow compared to today, but we're only talking by a degree
03:22or so.
03:23However, because the winds for most will be a little bit lighter, it is probably going to feel a little
03:28bit less cold,
03:29a little bit less raw for many of us, but still a chilly feel out there,
03:33despite the fact that there will be some decent sunshine, particularly towards southern parts,
03:37where we're looking at highs of around 10, 11, possibly 12 Celsius.
03:41That cloud and rain across Scotland and Northern Ireland continues as we go through the end of the day,
03:47pushing a little bit more into northern and western parts of England and Wales.
03:50It doesn't look particularly heavy, but yeah, it's just going to be turning a bit cloudier and a bit damp.
03:56Meanwhile, towards the southeast, we cling on to that drier weather for a little bit longer.
04:00More changeable weather to come as we go through the end of the week and into the weekend.
04:04Temperature's lifting a little bit.
04:06For more on that, we'll check out our 10-day trend, which Annie will be bringing to you later on.
04:10And also give the deep dive that I did yesterday a little watch if you want to find out more
04:15about post-processing.
04:16I'll see you again soon. Bye-bye.
