30 May - National weather forecast presented by Alex Burkill.
Transcript
00:00Hello, happy Friday. Now, changeable's been the weather word this week, and there is more changeable weather to come as we head into the weekend.
00:08Starting off looking at the picture first thing, and there are some outbreaks of rain around for some of us, particularly across parts of northern Scotland.
00:16Here we have some heavy bursts of rain, but a lot of that is going to fizzle out and clear away towards the east quite quickly this morning.
00:22And then actually across north-northwest and Scotland, a good deal of fine, sunny weather on offer as we head into the afternoon.
00:29A bit further south, across northern Ireland, southern parts of Scotland, a mixture of sunny spells, but also a fair few showers, and worth watching out because some of them could be a bit on the heavy side.
00:39A bit further south still, across parts of the north midlands into Wales, there's going to be a lingering, decaying front, so more cloud here, some grey skies, could even get a bit of drizzly rain, especially over higher ground.
00:51And then further south still, it's actually looking largely fine.
00:55Good deal of dry, sunny weather on offer.
00:57In fact, the best of the sunshine looks like it will be across parts of the far southeast.
01:01In Kent, it's looking set to be a lovely day.
01:04We do have some pretty warm air across us at that moment.
01:07It's quite humid out there, and we're seeing temperatures rising.
01:10We're likely to get to highs of around 24, maybe even 25 Celsius towards the south and southeast.
01:15And even further north, a few degrees fresher than this, but many places, especially to the east of any higher ground, where you get the best of the sunshine, a bit more shelter from the brisk breeze.
01:26We're looking at temperatures peaking high teens, if not low 20s.
01:30As we go through this evening, there will still be a few showers around, a bit more cloud, a bit more rain for a time across parts of central areas.
01:36But all that is likely to clear away.
01:38The winds should drop out for a time as well.
01:40So a drier, calmer spell, but then another system is going to come in from the west.
01:45So the winds are going to strengthen again from the west as we go through the early hours of tomorrow morning, and there will be some rain for some of us as well.
01:52Further east, particularly across central or eastern parts of England, maybe eastern Scotland, some clearer skies.
01:57So perhaps a touch fresher than last night, a few degrees fresher perhaps, but still relatively mild for many of us first thing on Saturday morning.
02:06And worth bearing in mind, there could be some low clouds, some mist and murkiness around some coastal parts towards the west, southwest in particular.
02:13And some of this could actually linger through much of the day.
02:16Otherwise, and through Saturday, a northwest-southeast split.
02:20Southeastern parts having the best of the drier, brighter, sunnier weather.
02:24Further north and west, it's going to be blustery at times, and there will be some squiggly bands of rain pushing their way through.
02:30So outbreaks of rain at times, which could be a bit heavy here and there, but some drier weather for sure.
02:36But also the risk of, yeah, a little bit of rain pushing through, and it could be a bit heavy at times.
02:42Now we have even higher temperatures forecast for tomorrow.
02:45We're looking at highs of around 24, 25, maybe 26 or 27 Celsius towards the southeast.
02:52And even further north, a greater chance of getting into the low 20s.
02:56But we do need to factor in the brisk winds and the wetter weather that we'll be pushing through at times as well.
03:02Again, a northwest-southeast split of sorts as we go through into Sunday.
03:07Some showery rain feeding its way in across parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern western England and Wales at times through Sunday.
03:14And plenty of showers following as we go through into the afternoon.
03:17Further south and east, a greater chance of staying dry.
03:20Some southeastern parts will stay completely dry.
03:23Only a few showers perhaps across parts of the southwest and maybe the Midlands.
03:27A bit less sunshine on offer perhaps for some of us on Sunday.
03:31And some fresher air pushing its way in.
03:33So temperatures in many places will be several degrees lower.
03:36Still feeling warm enough if you get any of that decent sunshine and shelter from the breeze.
03:41Some places will still get into the low 20s.
03:44Now, there's more changeable weather to come as we go through next week.
03:47So make sure you stay up to date and never miss an update.
03:50Bye-bye.
