00:00Hello, very good day to you. Through the rest of today, there's actually going to be a fair amount of
00:05fine weather for many places, particularly towards the east.
00:08Further west, a different story. There's currently an area of low pressure out in the Atlantic.
00:13We can see that on the earlier satellite imagery and then a swathe of cloud in association with a frontal
00:18system, which is making its way towards the UK.
00:21And that's going to bring some persistent, occasionally heavy rain initially to western parts, but that is feeding its way
00:28eastwards as we go through later today and overnight into tomorrow.
00:32But like I said, across eastern parts actually through this afternoon, generally dry.
00:37There'll be some bright sunny weather on offer for most, but across central areas turning increasingly cloudy and in the
00:43west turning pretty wet, particularly across northern Ireland.
00:46Some persistent, at times heavy rain and also winds picking up here, strengthening winds, and they're going to be a
00:53bit of an issue as we go through this evening, especially towards northwestern parts of the UK.
00:58Now, temperature-wise, it is markedly cooler than it has been through some recent days, and most notably perhaps across
01:04some eastern areas where temperatures were still in the low 20s yesterday, around 10 degrees cooler today for some places.
01:11They're only around average for the time of year, but yes, I think most of us will notice that it's
01:15not quite as warm as it was just a few days ago.
01:18Then, later on, that band of rain in the west gradually makes its way further eastwards.
01:24It could be quite heavy, we're talking maybe 10, 15 millimetres, perhaps 20 millimetres in some places towards the north,
01:30and over the higher ground of Scotland, quite readily seeing some sleet and snow.
01:34But, like I say, it's over the higher ground, so it shouldn't cause any issues further down.
01:38And do watch out for those strong gusty winds, touching gales, maybe even severe gales in exposed parts towards the
01:45northwest, and we have colder air coming in.
01:48So, whilst across southern and eastern parts, where it's cloudy and it's quite wet compared to this morning, so temperature's
01:56not dropping as low, so a less chilly start here.
01:59Across parts of Northern Ireland, western Scotland, where that more persistent rain, that front, will have cleared through by the
02:05early hours of Saturday morning.
02:07We have that cooler air, clearer skies, where we could see a touch of frost, perhaps.
02:11It's possible that the strong winds will stop the frost developing too widespread, but yeah, a touch of frost in
02:16a few places.
02:17So, a bit of a wet start down some central parts of the UK, first thing on Saturday morning.
02:22That band of rain then gradually making its way eastwards, and will actually largely clear away for many places by
02:28around lunchtime, just towards Shetland, really.
02:31That persistent rain continuing well through the afternoon.
02:34Behind the persistent rain, though, it doesn't turn completely dry.
02:37We have quite a showery set up developing.
02:40So, yes, there will be some bright sunny spells for most of us, but also plenty of showers, and some
02:44of these could be quite heavy.
02:45There could be thundery.
02:46There could be some hail mixed in with them as well.
02:48Also worth noting, all the time, it is going to be quite blustery.
02:52The strongest winds towards the northwest and down the western side as well, and so, with temperatures, yes, still around
02:58average for the time of year,
02:59and yes, there will be that sunshine around, but when you're in the wind, there is going to be a
03:04notable chilly feel for sure.
03:05A quick look towards Sunday then, and, well, it's looking fairly similar.
03:10We're going to see plenty of showers once more, particularly towards the northwest of the UK.
03:14Further south as well, are scattering of showers, perhaps just some places in between northern England, the far north of
03:19Wales,
03:20maybe avoiding the worst of the showers and staying largely dry with some decent sunshine.
03:24Across parts of Scotland, those showers could turn quite persistent, and so here we could see some rainfall totals really
03:30building up as we go through the day,
03:32and temperatures, if anything, on Sunday looking similar to Saturday, really, and still those blustery winds.
