00:00For the sixth consecutive day, temperatures in the UK have exceeded 30 Celsius.
00:05That's pretty extraordinary.
00:07Previously, the longest run in May was only three days.
00:10So it really has been a very hot spell this week.
00:13And we do still have hot air across the country.
00:16High pressure to the east are dragging in hot air from the south.
00:19Much of Western Europe having heat waves at the moment.
00:22But through the next 24, 48 hours, fresher air will be coming in from the west.
00:27There will be a bit of rain mixed in, but many of us will really notice and welcome the change
00:32to something a little bit more comfortable, perhaps, with temperatures dropping close to average for the time of year.
00:37Through this evening, there will be a few showers perhaps around eastern parts of England, some heavy, maybe even a
00:42bit thundery.
00:42And we have outbreaks of rain across Northern Ireland later overnight, pushing into particularly northern and western parts of Scotland.
00:49Elsewhere, largely dry through the earlier hours of Friday morning.
00:53Clearer skies across parts of East Anglia, the London area, and also towards, well, the far southeast, so towards Kent.
00:59A bit more cloud elsewhere compared to some recent nights.
01:02And we still have this very warm, hot, humid air across us.
01:06Temperatures, again, not dropping a huge amount.
01:08Mid-teens for many towns and cities, perhaps high teens in some places.
01:12Eastern England could be a little bit warmer than last night.
01:15But quite widely, it's, again, going to be a bit uncomfortable for sleeping for many of us.
01:20Then through tomorrow, there are a few zones of wetter weather to be aware of.
01:24So staying quite cloudy and wet across particularly northern and western parts of Scotland.
01:28But the rain will become a bit more widespread here.
01:31A few outbreaks of rain initially for Northern Ireland, but they will clear away.
01:34And then towards southern, southeastern parts of England, there'll be some sherry rain pushing its way through.
01:39But actually, away from these zones and later across Northern Ireland and through large parts of the day,
01:44across many other areas of England and Wales, it will be dry and there'll be a decent amount of sunshine.
01:50But we do have that fresher air that I highlighted.
01:53So even though there will be a decent amount of sunshine, well, temperatures, we're only looking at them peaking in
01:57the high teens, low 20s for most places tomorrow.
02:01But in the far southeast, clinging on to that hot air.
02:04So that's quite a change compared to what we've seen recently.
02:08If we compare Friday's highs to Thursday's highs, and you can see for many places, it's several degrees fresher.
02:14Just some eastern parts likely to be a little bit hotter.
02:19So bear that in mind.
02:20Whilst most places will be turning fresher, that's not the case everywhere.
02:25A bit more rain to come through the end of the day on Friday across northern parts.
02:29In the southeast, the sherry rain clears away.
02:32And so then it actually turns largely dry for a little while.
02:35Lots of clear skies, but there's more wet weather waiting to come in from the west.
02:39A band of rain sweeping its way and pushing into Northern Ireland as we head towards dawn on Saturday morning.
02:45Ahead of that, again, we do still have quite warm air across us.
02:49The fresher air is pushing its way through, but it's not a real marked massive drop, especially when it comes
02:56to our overnight temperatures.
02:57So perhaps a bit more comfortable for sleeping, but temperatures still holding up in double figures for most places, especially
03:03in the more built up areas.
03:04Lots of the towns and cities will still be holding on to some of that heat that we've had through
03:09much of this week.
03:10But Saturday itself, well, largely fine across much of England and Wales, particularly through the morning.
03:16But a much wetter story for Northern Ireland and that rain becoming widespread across much of Scotland, just away from
03:21the far east to southeast of Scotland.
03:23And eventually that rain will start to push its way into western parts of England and Wales.
03:27But actually, for many, it's looking like a largely decent day.
03:31Temperatures will be down a little bit compared to even Friday for most, but still the potential for some hot
03:36weather towards the southeast.
03:37So high 20s, 30s, not out of the question.
03:41I think high 20s probably about as hot as we're going to get on Saturday.
03:44But nonetheless, in any sunshine, still feeling pretty hot indeed.
03:47Obviously, where we have the cloudy wet weather towards the north and west, well, it's going to feel a fair
03:52bit fresher for sure.
03:54More changeable weather to come through the end of the weekend.
03:57That band of rain does sweep its way southeastward.
04:00So there'll be more cloud around, outbreaks of rain, even some stronger winds at times too.
04:05But with all that, we are seeing a continuation in that dropping of our temperatures.
04:10So it will be markedly fresher and more comfortable as we head through the very end of spring and into
04:16the start of meteorological summer, which starts on Monday.
04:20And a bit more of a changeable theme as well.
04:22Watch out for some hefty showers.
04:23They could cause some localised issues.
04:25I'll see you again soon.
04:26Bye-bye.
