00:00The extreme heat across many parts of the UK at the moment will continue for a little while yet.
00:06We have a number of warnings in force, more on that in a second.
00:10Currently, there's high pressure over the UK, bringing lots of sunshine,
00:13which is why we're seeing temperatures rising so high,
00:16especially as we're dragging in some hot air from the near continent.
00:19It's been a historical event across particularly parts of France so far this week.
00:24There will be fresher air coming in from the west by Friday and more so into the weekend,
00:29but eastern areas clinging on to that exceptionally hot air for a while yet.
00:35Let's look at the warnings then.
00:37Through Wednesday and Thursday, we have an amber warning across the bulk of England and Wales
00:41and a red warning across some central southern parts of England
00:45and some southern southeastern parts of Wales as well.
00:48It's not just the daytime highs which is causing us concern.
00:51It's also the overnight minimum temperatures.
00:53They are staying very high and we have such high humidity as well,
00:57causing issues for health and causing problems for infrastructure.
01:01Warnings have been recently updated.
01:03They now go as far as Friday and Saturday for some eastern parts.
01:08Looking at the weather through the end of the day today,
01:11we are going to have a bit of rain, a bit of cloud spilling its way across parts of Northern
01:14Ireland
01:15and that will feed into some northern and western parts of Scotland overnight as well.
01:19A few bits of rain can't be ruled out for parts of southwest Wales,
01:23maybe clipping coastal parts of Cornwall, but otherwise it's looking largely dry.
01:27Lots of clear skies, just a bit of low cloud coming into some northy coastal parts.
01:31A big talking point though will be our temperatures.
01:34Again, it is going to be a very warm, muggy, humid night,
01:37uncomfortable for sleeping for many of us.
01:40Some parts seeing temperatures once more staying above 20 Celsius,
01:45so a tropical night, like I say, pretty difficult for some.
01:48It will be a little bit fresher, a little bit more comfortable towards some eastern parts,
01:52a bit of a breeze coming in here and towards the north as well, temperatures lower.
01:58Into Thursday then, and some of that low cloud towards the North Sea could linger through much of the morning,
02:04perhaps into the afternoon, and there's more rain affecting northern parts of Scotland.
02:08It could be a bit persistent, maybe even heavy at times into the afternoon.
02:12Otherwise, again, it's a largely sunny day, not wall-to-wall blue skies, but largely sunny.
02:18And with that, temperatures rising.
02:20It is going to be exceptionally hot, especially towards the south, but also across central parts,
02:25maybe into northern England.
02:26That hot air will be spreading further northwards.
02:29So again, we're looking at temperatures peaking in the mid to high 30 Celsius.
02:33A little bit hotter than that isn't out of the question.
02:36And across some parts of southern Scotland, maybe even Northern Ireland,
02:40we could be looking at temperatures getting to the very high 20s, maybe even low 30s.
02:44So it is going to be very hot for the vast majority of us.
02:47A bit of a breeze towards some eastern coastal parts, and perhaps towards Cornwall,
02:52may make it feel a little bit more comfortable here, temperatures slightly down compared to other parts of the country.
02:58Now, through Thursday evening, watch out for some hefty showers developing across parts of the southwest.
03:02These could bring some strong, damaging winds, perhaps.
03:05And then we see a lot more showery rain, which could be heavy and thundery,
03:09spilling its way northwards by the early hours of Friday morning.
03:12It's looking pretty wet, pretty unsettled across much of the northern, well, two-thirds of the country,
03:17with drier, clearer weather across the southern third.
03:21It is again, however, going to be another warm, muggy night for most of us.
03:25Whilst the rain will help wash out some of that humidity,
03:28it is still going to be pretty uncomfortable.
03:30Temperatures once more staying above 20 Celsius in a fair few places.
03:34And even further north, we're looking at mid to high teens quite widely.
03:38A lot of the hefty, showery rain that we start Friday with will clear away towards the northeast through the
03:43morning.
03:44But actually, there's a front lingering across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
03:47So the rain staying here, it could be quite heavy, persistent, maybe even thundery at times.
03:52Elsewhere, apart from one or two showers, which may develop generally by the afternoon,
03:57it's looking largely dry and sunny yet again.
04:00We do have slightly fresher air coming in from the west,
04:02so western parts feeling a bit more comfortable than they have done through recent days.
04:06But central eastern areas still seeing temperatures in the mid to high 30s,
04:10which is why the extreme heat warning has now been extended to cover Friday.
04:16We have also got an extreme heat warning which covers eastern parts on Saturday as well
04:21because it does look like the hot air.
04:22Whilst it will cling on to eastern areas,
04:26temperatures may not be as high as earlier on in the week,
04:28but nonetheless, we could see some further impacts.
04:30There will be some more changeable weather around through this weekend,
04:34front bringing rain mainly towards the northwest,
04:36but some showery bursts can't be ruled out elsewhere.
