00:00But I was just trying to decide like a simple thing, which is how many wins is extra motivation after
00:05a terrible season worth, you know, because there is the, and there was for the longest time, this like visceral,
00:12I'm Patrick Mahomes.
00:13I'm going to rip your heart out mentality to things for a while.
00:17And so coming off this terrible season, coming off the injury, Andy reads creative flow going in the off season.
00:25I would think that it's honestly, it's worth at least a win or two to me, the we're going to
00:30do this again.
00:31And we're going to prove you all wrong again.
00:34Mahomes, Chris Jones, Travis, Kelsey, Andy Reed.
00:38I think it's worth a win to me, maybe two, depending on the circumstance.
00:42So if I think they're a 10 win team, I think there are 11 because of just pure hate, pure
00:47all prove you all wrong.
00:49Yeah, I don't know.
00:49I understand.
00:50Like, I think there's value in that in sports or always has been.
00:52Yeah, I don't know if I really buy into that though, carrying over to another season, you know, I think
00:57it's a bigger deal.
00:58You get embarrassed in the middle of a season in a particular week and the next week you maybe try
01:04to, to prove people wrong.
01:06I don't know.
01:07I mean, you're a six win team last year.
01:09You weren't a good football team.
01:10You go into this year.
01:12Yeah.
01:12You want to prove that you're better than a six win team, but I don't know if that like locks
01:16you into an extra win or two.
01:18I think what it caused was this off season for the team, hopefully, and based on some of the staff
01:24changes, I would argue it is true, which is to revisit and recognize, okay, we've got, we've got some flaws.
01:29We've been able to cover it up for multiple years with our Super Bowl runs, but there were some things
01:33that needed to be addressed.
01:34And we kind of put it off because, well, we were winning a bunch of football games and we were,
01:38we were going to Super Bowls.
01:40Well, now the bottom fell out on us last year.
01:42We were a six win football team.
01:43I think that's what you kind of say.
01:44And if you're Andy Reed, you, you, you, you pivot and you regroup.
01:48I think from a front office perspective, how they invested in running back is clearly different than how they've invested
01:53in running back the last three years.
01:54So I think some of their actions in the off season have done that.
01:57I don't, I don't know if it necessarily is, all right, you win six games.
02:00Now you're extra motivated to, to, and it leads to an extra win.
02:03And I think the motivation is there, but I don't know if there's an actual win number that you add
02:08to it.
02:08I just think it's, it causes you, it causes you to rethink things.
02:12It causes you to find a new OC and find a new running back coach.
02:16And, you know, it, it allows you to now have a, maybe a good pivot point when you're in the
02:21middle of a dynasty.
02:22You're just trying to extend it, extend it, extend it.
02:24This causes you to have a little bit of a retool.
02:27And that's what I think we've witnessed this off season.
02:29Yeah. I mean, look, I get what you're saying in the sense that there's, I'm never going to be able
02:34to prove the number.
02:35Sure, sure, sure.
02:36Like, and you're never going to be able to just prove the number.
02:37It was worth five wins that went from six to 11 at a pure hate.
02:42So it is like conceptual in that way.
02:45Right. So like, I understand the idea that it can't prove or disprove anything one way or the other.
02:51But what I do think is, I think there is something to, and the chiefs have been happy to, in
02:56a lot of ways, prove people wrong.
02:58And this would be the single greatest opportunity to do so in their entire time from a fresh season perspective.
03:06I understand there's like some, they got their ass kicked in a Superbowl.
03:09Then they had to go back out and prove it to the rest of the league again, motivation, but you
03:13made it in the Superbowl.
03:14So some of that had to be, I would say, manufactured as in you're, you're having to like tell yourself
03:20that this is how people feel, but it might not necessarily always be the case.
03:24In this case, it is the case.
03:26People very seriously question you.
03:27They think Denver might be better or the Ravens.
03:30They think you're not going to win the division again, or that your run is over, or that you'll never
03:34have another dynasty.
03:36And in his history, Patrick Mahomes has been happy to prove people wrong for sure to like take it to
03:42him.
03:42And he does hold that chip on his shoulder as a result of it.
03:45And, and, you know, like, I think the greats do find motivation in unnatural places sometimes, but when it's free
03:53and in their lap gold, he's not even going to have to work to find it.
03:56They're coming off a six win season.
03:57He's coming off a major injury.
03:58He's not even going to have to try that hard to find that extra motivation to prove everybody wrong in
04:03the NFL.
04:04And so I think it's worth at least a win genuinely is that if I think, and this is how
04:09I ended up getting to 11 wins versus what we've talked about is.
04:11If you made me predict right now, it's like, well, maybe I think they're a 10 win team and you
04:15and I aren't as far apart as you think when you're like, ah, they're nine or 10, but I'm happy
04:19to give them the boost of a win or two just because of that alone in a lot of ways.
04:24And so I think it's there.
04:26Someone says, I think it'd be worth an extra win or two because, you know, counting on Chris Jones, an
04:30entire football game instead of this.
04:32The funny thing about Chris Jones is his success rate is still way higher.
04:36Nobody had an issue with Chris Jones effort level until they were a bad team, the way that he works,
04:41the way that he plays in a game, defensive linemen take snaps off.
04:44I'm sorry.
04:45That's calm.
04:45It does happen.
04:46But I think go back even prior to last season, people were still upset because the stat, the stats weren't
04:52there, right?
04:53The sacks weren't there.
04:54Even in the year where they went to the Super Bowl against the Eagles, people were starting to talk differently
04:58about Chris Jones.
04:59Now, you're right.
05:00I think last year, the Jacksonville Jaguars game was the one that it really kind of set people off where
05:04he was clearly worn out.
05:07This goes back to the personnel problems on the defensive line.
05:09They had nobody else to rotate in with him.
05:11That was effective.
05:12He was gassed at the end of the game and he was just standing there.
05:15We went through that whole thing.
05:16I mean, that was a big story for that entire week because on that particular play, it looked like he
05:20just stopped and thought somebody was going to wrap up Trevor Lawrence, I guess it would have been in that
05:25particular game.
05:25And so that was the one where I think it kind of caused fans to get really, really frustrated.
05:29And hopefully, yeah, hopefully everybody's rejuvenated, whether it's because of the bad year or just, hey, they finally had a
05:35real off season.
05:36I don't know.
05:36Maybe that's what they needed in terms of to feel fresh again.
05:39I don't know.
05:39They were going deep.
05:40We'll see.
05:41I don't know.
05:41Like we'll have to, this will be a conversation 10 years from now where when some of these guys are
05:45retired, when you get the honest answer, I don't think it's nothing gold that they have played like 20 additional
05:50games versus most teams in the NFL.
05:53It's got to be a factor.
05:54It's got to be a factor.
05:55I mean, the AFC championship game at minimum, the Super Bowl five times.
06:00It's like they've been playing deep into this thing for some time.
06:05The idea that Holmes pretty much, and I know he's got to like, he's got to train and all that
06:09other stuff.
06:09But the idea that they've been off since like mid-January is crazy.
06:14Early January, they've been playing between parades or anything else.
06:18They've been busy until March this entire time.
06:21Like they're off months early based off the way this schedule has been.
06:25So like, you look, maybe that's, maybe that's more of a factor than the actual, like we're motivated to prove
06:30you all wrong.
06:30And I, they do have a problem in the sense that this is still a huge year.
06:34The next two years are huge years in the pillar category.
06:37We've had that conversation on sort of lane has to man.
06:40So he's got to eventually like, he's got to do it like now, like he has to become a pillar
06:44immediately.
06:45And it's a lot to put on a kid, but when you're taking six overall life is life.
06:48Cause they can't keep going into every year being like, well, Chris Jones can do it all on his own.
06:53Or I hope Travis Kelsey can do it all on his own or Patrick.
06:57But like, this guy's getting old.
06:59At some point, the young crew have got to be a, you know, George Karloftis or R Mason Thomas or
07:05any of these other guys that just drafted.
07:06They got to become like the every day we count on you types.
07:10Sure.
07:10Let Chris Jones be counted on three out of every four games.
07:14The hope is that hopefully, you know, even from a free agent perspective though, that Tonga, their veteran signing for
07:19the Patriots, that he helps Chris Jones, you know, not only be a little fresher there on the interior, but
07:23allows him occasionally to bounce outside as well.
07:25I mean, that they just did not have anybody else on that defensive line, other than Karloftis and Chris Jones
07:31last year.
07:31I mean, the interior, Derek Naughty was awful last year for the chiefs.
07:34We talked about Mike Dana was very disappointing a season ago.
07:37Charles and Menahue, you know, kind of was a no show for them.
07:41There are too many pieces that just did not contribute in 2025 on that defensive line.
07:45That, that really highlighted some of the other issues and really caused Chris Jones to stand out in a negative
07:51way because it was so easy for teams to focus in on Chris.
07:55And then he got frustrated and it just continued to compound as the year went on.
07:58And then as the season got worse, I'm sure.
08:00Yeah.
08:00Do you want to, you want to guess Mike?
08:03Chris Jones effort level probably got worse as the season got worse.
08:05And you'd be like, well, I don't want my highest level competitors be like, I don't know, man.
08:09Chris Jones has proven to me.
08:10I know he can turn it on when the lights are bright and he is needed because I don't go
08:14back to that Super Bowl in which they could get zero pressure.
08:17The one they were in a couple of years ago against Philly.
08:20That was Christian.
08:21It was supposed to single handedly.
08:23Like it wasn't effort in that game.
08:25It was that they didn't have other pass rushers that could help him.
08:28That man's been carrying the defensive line on his back for a couple of years now.
08:31That's why they drafted Peter Woods and our Mason Thomas.
08:34That's why they took George Karloftis a couple of years ago.
08:36And I'll say Karloftis has been fine.
08:38I don't think he's overpaid.
08:40But I would have loved for him to be underpaid.
08:43You know, I would love for him to be like, hey, based on defensive line contracts, you could be getting
08:47plus value out of this thing.
08:49If you could just get eight to ten sacks out of the guy and he hasn't been able to provide
08:54that in any way.
08:55I do think there was a motivating factor in the sense that you can you can drive yourself back into
09:01like, no, we got to get back to greatness.
09:02The problem is like how much of the team now, because of the way they've shifted the roster, how much
09:08of even just two years ago roster still left?
09:10I mean, some of the wide receivers certainly, but the defense looks dramatically different than it did from the team
09:16who played in the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia.
09:18Mainly in the secondary.
09:20Yeah, mainly the second.
09:21But the defensive line, it's really just Karloftis and Jones left.
09:23Yeah.
09:24I mean, everyone else has shifted hands.
09:26It's, you know, like it's not.
09:27I mean, not Mike Pinnells and Charles and many Hughes and those guys of the world anymore.
09:32They've they've left town or Mike Dana's whoever, right?
09:35They've all found new teams.
09:36They got to find new motivations and that.
09:38But the secondary is quite a bit different.
09:39The safeties, the corners, that's all look different.
09:42Now, in fairness, the wide receivers.
09:45I mean, you all got one chance to prove that you're worth whatever money or contract or anything else you
09:50want down the road.
09:51Like, I think worthy he'll be on the team for two years, but he's really got one year to prove
09:55to the league that he's serious because he puts up another 600 yards this year.
10:00Well, then the league's just going to be like, well, that's who he is.
10:03Even if he puts up 900 in the final year, he'll get paid, but not the amount that the league
10:07would have done if he had done it two years in a row.
10:10Thinking of getting paid, we'll get to a quarterback that got a new deal yesterday and what that just says
10:14about the quarterback market.
10:15And remember, at some point in time, Patrick Mahomes is going to get a new deal, a new structure of
10:19a contract.
10:20And so now an updated number with a different quarterback, how that could play a role in that for Patrick
10:24Mahomes.
