00:00on the wise heart right we make it right call Kyle Wright hotline Albert Breer of the MMQB joins us
00:05now Albert welcome to the show hey guys what's up oh we're living the dream here I am probably more
00:12curious I don't really love international games but I'm I'm oddly curious about the movement today
00:18to expand the the the international game slate here do you like is there an end goal in sight
00:25for the NFL or are they just going to keep every couple years adding a couple more games at a
00:29per year yeah I think the goal is to get to 16 um you know and I think that would
00:37come with an 18
00:38game schedule um and you know I think if if you get there then the rhythm is everybody's playing
00:42internationally every year and so there's less competitive issues with it because you're making
00:46everybody do it and then I think the rhythm would be one year you get eight home games a neutral
00:51site
00:52game and nine road games and then the following year you get nine home games eight road games and
00:57a neutral site game um you know I and and I think a lot of this guys is just about
01:02them creating new
01:04packages and being able to sell those packages to their partners I mean the Netflix package which is
01:10like sort of a special events package which has you know week one game um in Australia the week 18
01:16game
01:16on the Saturday um the two games on Christmas and Thanksgiving Eve that is I mean they basically pulled
01:23that out of there you know what you know and so um but I think it's a good example of
01:28like how
01:29they're creating more inventory to sell which is the goal of all of this and so you know being able
01:37to
01:37sell an international package where a lot of those games are in a separate window at 9 30 in the
01:41morning
01:42um you know it's something that you know creates a new revenue stream for them um you know and again
01:49like it just I I don't know that there's any end in sight for for that stuff um you know
01:56and just
01:56finding new ways to sell football um and you know I think the other piece of it and this is
02:01an important
02:01piece of it of course is I do think to some degree they feel like there's only so much um
02:06so much more
02:07growth left domestically so if you think the domestic growth has gotten to a not a breaking point but
02:14close uh closer to uh to fold and empty um then you you look for other areas to grow and
02:21outside
02:21the country is one way to do it and they've done again it in other ways you know going to
02:26expand the
02:27regular season expand the playoffs put teams in LA um you know this is just another example of it
02:33what was your read on them also eliminating the team's ability to protect the games against specific
02:37home opponents uh which they used to be able to do now they can't yeah they want to put better
02:43games
02:43over there you know and again like I think it sucks for the fans here because you know if you're
02:47a
02:48season ticket holder it might mean that you lose a cowboys game or you lose you know whatever it is
02:52um but like they they very clearly want to put bigger games over there I mean I I think you
02:58look
02:58further than week one I mean I mean over the last five years is there a more important relevant game
03:05than Niners Rams and determining you know who is who has home field in the playoffs um you know who
03:13winds up in the Super Bowl in some cases um I I don't think that there's you know a series
03:20that's
03:21been more relevant than that one maybe chief skills you could argue right like but um so like sending
03:27shipping one of those games over to Australia should tell you that the priority that this is for the
03:34league you know um because from a competitive standpoint what makes the most sense is to have
03:39those teams play home and home and they're not doing that this year um which again like I think
03:45has a pretty strong message on where they stand on all this Albert Nashville gets the February 2030
03:51Super Bowl that means Inglewood Atlanta Vegas and then Nashville obviously we're building a little
03:57barn dominium out there in Brook Park are the Haslams it didn't seem like fait accompli when Roger Goodell was
04:04here at the groundbreaking ceremony saying that you know Cleveland still has to do if you had to bet
04:09right now would you bet that the Brook Park barn dominium gets a Super Bowl would you bet against it
04:15yeah I would bet against it I mean I just don't think I like look the reality is a lot
04:23of this comes
04:23down to you know can you can you handle a Super Bowl you know and what are you going to
04:28be able
04:28to do with all the events around it and um you know I I just don't know that Cleveland has
04:35and you guys
04:36can correct me if I'm wrong here and you guys know how I feel about that whole state right so
04:40I'm not
04:41coming here as the enemy of Ohio or the enemy of Cleveland but um you know the reality is like
04:47Nashville is not very big but it is an event city maybe not to the degree of but you know
04:54somewhere
04:54along the lines of New Orleans and Vegas which also aren't big places but are built for events
05:00so they have the hotel infrastructure they have the event space they have all these different things
05:06that you need to host the Super Bowl and um you know I thought one of the most interesting one
05:11of
05:11the most interesting things I was able to dig up today was that um the the the city of the
05:19Nashville
05:19area the greater Nashville area has 62,000 hotel rooms right now and that number is going to be up
05:27to 80,000 by the time they they host the Super Bowl I mean that's a lot of hotel space
05:32I don't know what
05:33the number is for Cleveland but I would bet it's around like 22,000 or so right so like that's
05:39a
05:39quarter of what Nashville is going to have and they're I think correct me if I'm wrong I think
05:43they're similar size city I think Cleveland might be bigger you know so yeah so like I just
05:49like how do you solve that and I'm not sure that there's a good answer to that question
05:54uh Albert we had a uh Jeremy Fowler ESPN piece and Deshaun Watson and in that piece he kind of
06:00referenced someone that was a source close to Deshaun and the source close said that Deshaun
06:04understands why the fans are frustrated just from a media perspective do you feel like we're going to
06:10get to a spot maybe even tomorrow where Deshaun speaks to the media but he actually addresses
06:14why he thinks fans are frustrated or are we just going to keep getting well all right source
06:18close to Deshaun and that's as good as we're ever going to get when it comes to any of the
06:22the true
06:22frustrations with Browns fans I think and look like I'm not saying like he wasn't at fault because he
06:29was at fault for a lot of things that have happened over the last five years but like I do
06:33think like
06:34there has been um an edgier Deshaun than he was in Houston a like I guess more aggrieved Deshaun
06:44um because I feels like and again this isn't me saying this but I think like to some degree he
06:49probably feels like he was treated unfairly by some people through everything that happened
06:54um and I think part of his growth has to be getting past that you know what I mean like
07:00and
07:00I think if he's ever going to want to dear himself to the people there the best thing you can
07:05do you
07:05know when you've you know got you've you've you've got the history that Deshaun has now in four years in
07:11Cleveland is you know have you know show a self-deprecating side and show um that you're
07:20you're you're you're aware of of of of your own responsibility and everything that's gone wrong
07:26and I do think like I don't know I mean like I do tend to think that like people can
07:31be pretty
07:31forgiving if you at least show some humility and so if I were advising him I'd say like when you
07:38go to
07:38the mic show some humility and show some disappointment over the four years and what's
07:42become of it and show a willingness to do everything that you can to try to make sure
07:47that year five is different than the previous four um and I've said this to you guys before I think
07:52I've
07:52been pretty consistent here like I felt all along that the the Browns should give Deshaun Watson a good
07:58long look this year and um yeah it sure feels like they're going to do exactly that
08:04Albert uh the Miles Garrett trade idea continues to rear its head at every opportunity this off
08:11season I've decided that if he's here June 3rd short of a actual trade a public trade request by
08:19Miles or the Browns basically announcing or being reported that they're shopping Miles I will consider
08:24the matter closed until the trade deadline of this year so I'm going to ask you putting you on the
08:30spot
08:31here but it's okay I think you can handle it percentage chance that Miles Garrett gets the
08:36post June 1 trade from the Cleveland Browns this year so if you're asking me point blank and I have
08:43to guess on I think it's possible I don't know what the percent chance is but I know I know
08:48there'd be a
08:49lot of interest in them and um you know I think the Browns have to consider everything and look like
08:56to me
08:56you know I've I've I've said this to you guys pretty consistently too I think it makes all the
09:03sense in the world for the Browns to consider it because I just don't think their timeline matches
09:07up with his you know um he's 30 years old now um you had a really really good um you
09:16know a rookie
09:16class last year was with Mason Graham and Carson Swessinger and um you know and Harold Fannin and
09:23Quinn Sean Judkins um I think you've got a chance to have a really good follow-up class that was
09:30Spencer Fano and and Casey Concepcion and Denzel Boston like I'd feel really good about like what
09:36I'm putting out there but you don't have a quarterback settled yet and if you come out of
09:40this year and you still need one that's okay because you're going to have the capital you might
09:44have the capital next year and what could be a really strong year at the position in the draft to
09:48take care of that so like I look at it like like let's just say that the Browns the year
09:56for them
09:56to break through is 2027 right Miles Garrett turns 32 that year so if that's like the front end of
10:05you
10:05really taking off as a program well like then would you rather have Miles Garrett what he has left at
10:1332
10:13years old or would you rather have two or three first round picks maybe a young player with it
10:18coming in to supplement what you've already built I it's hard because he's a freaking gold jacket
10:25player you know what I mean like he's and he's one of the greatest players in the history of the
10:29franchise but I think it's something you really have to consider do you have any discussions with
10:34anyone about the idea that uh I mean obviously Tom Brady played for a million years and we watching
10:39the NBA LeBron still playing like some of the games greats they do just take it to an extremely long
10:44level and and Miles has had some injuries uh but he takes care of his body about as good as
10:48anybody
10:48is there any is there any thought process to like I know you're saying like all right 32 that's that's
10:53a lot for a lot of pass rushers in life but the idea that someone like Miles could be effective
10:5835 36 37
11:02I mean yeah but I like and I think that that's definitely out there for him um you know I
11:08just
11:09again how often have we seen it you know what I mean like I think you actually look like the
11:14dominant
11:14defensive tackles have actually lasted longer you know like Aaron Donald like Chris Jones now um
11:20you know what I think what we what you see with the pass rushers is they sort of have to
11:27reinvent
11:27themselves and they do last forever you know what I mean like so what version of that player are you
11:33getting you know and I just sort of look at like the trade value right like if you trade him
11:37now
11:37then I think we're talking about like multiple first round picks and more you know um if you trade
11:44him in two years like what are you getting like maybe a two for him you know uh based on
11:49his age and so
11:50like I I think there's like a big difference like from a value perspective when you look at that
11:55and so then like I think you have to look at that window from one point to the to the
12:00other point
12:00where the value drops but do we have a chance to win a championship in that window and I think
12:06if
12:06you're being honest with yourself the answer is probably no you know so I I that that to me would
12:12be like the the the equation if I was considering it and again like if if if someone called like
12:18I would
12:18listen and that's just me this isn't Andrew Barry talking or anybody with the Browns organization but
12:23like I I would you know I'm not Jimmy Haslam but it's something like that if I were the one
12:30picking up the phone I would consider because and it's not because Miles not going to be able to play
12:35till he's 35 36 37 we saw Julius Peppers last we saw um you know we're seeing Jadeveon Clowney last
12:43you know um because it's really hard to find guys who can get after the pastor but those guys at
12:48the end of
12:49their careers were not the same as they were when they were 27 years old Albert great stuff buddy we
12:55gotta get back to game one talk but appreciate you making some time for us and we'll talk to you
12:58next
12:59week all right thanks guys I'm really rooting for the Cavs and I'm not even I'm not even messing with
13:04you here um there is nothing more obnoxious than the celebrity fans of the New York Knicks I hope you
13:09guys stick it to them oh we we are hoping that too and that is exactly what we wanted to
13:13hear I want
13:14to know which one he hates the most oh wait actually nope Albert real quick this is a good
13:17question which which bing bonger do you hate the most is it Stiller is it Chalamet is it Spike Lee
13:22is
13:22it Tracy Morgan I think Chalamet it's always Chalamet there's just there's just someone something about
13:27him that I just I don't know it's probably not fair right like but I I don't know like I
13:35I like all
13:37these guys waving it and you know I just and you know like the other thing is the owner like
13:42to me
13:43is like one of the most detestable owners in sports and so true like that adds to it you know
13:49what I mean so um I hope Donovan Mitchell and James Harden Evan Mobley all those guys kick ass over
13:55the
13:56next week and a half that's exactly what we like to hear Albert be good buddy all right thanks guys
