00:00on the wise heart right we make it right call Kyle Wright hotline of the MMQB Albert Breer
00:06joining us Albert welcome to the show bud hey what's up guys how you doing we're doing all
00:11right here uh we're getting ready for uh Cavs Pistons how big of a disappointment is Boston
00:18getting bounced out or is there still like the post title glow from what is it three years ago
00:25um no I mean you know on the radio right now I think they're firing Missoula and trading Jalen
00:30so um you know I I think that there is like a little I think it's fair to look at
00:37like what
00:38happened in that series and um the way that uh the way they play I guess is the best way
00:45to put it
00:46that's caused a lot of frustration over the last couple of years and uh you know I think then some
00:52of the ownership decisions you know they move on from Porzingis and Al Horford and and Drew Holiday
00:57all at once you know and so um you know they build this team that maybe can't win different ways
01:03you know and I I don't know I just personally watching like I can't stand that style of
01:08of basketball where you're just standing you have four guys standing at you know outside the outside
01:13the arc and you're just you know pushing the ball around and getting a shot and then you know I
01:18just
01:18it's there's a lot of reasons to be frustrated and I think there's a little concern that you know
01:24like the Tatum window isn't going to be isn't going to be maximized here we'll see what happens
01:28yeah 27 and 0 when they shoot 40 from three and they're a 500 team when they don't like that's
01:32got to be it just it's like it's obvious and and you know like the thing that gets me about
01:37it is like
01:38so they they fight their way back into that game and it's down to like and now you're down at
01:43like
01:43you have it at one point on two different occasions you know and you're still bombing
01:48threes even though that's not really working for you and I just it's almost like they're counting
01:53on the law of averages to bail them out you know I mean which is just you know the shots
01:59weren't
02:00falling you know to find an easier shot but that's just me all right uh we will get to some
02:05football
02:06here I I read your your piece on Fernando Mendoza uh in in becoming the number one pick and the
02:12spy tech
02:13and in Mark Davis side of things I'm curious as compared to like other you know first pick or
02:20first quarterback off the board do you think Fernando is in a spot he can succeed in or will
02:25he have to elevate the program um that's a good question um I would say like for right now um
02:38they're gonna have to make a determination on that that I think will help guide whether or not
02:43he has a real shot to start um as a rookie and history shows us that almost all these guys
02:49stars
02:49rookies right like I think the reality is there are very few true red shirts I believe the Rams when
02:56they say they're not intending to play Ty Simpson um you know but unless you're a Super Bowl contender
03:02you have a quarterback like Matthew Stafford chance are the guy the kid's gonna play at some point
03:05but they also have Kirk Cousins there and I think they have a little bit of leeway to be responsible
03:12about this and so you know I think a huge piece of assessing um whether or not Fernando Mendoza
03:19should go in there isn't just whether he's ready it's whether the team's ready to support him
03:23and so you know a lot of that's going to hinge on the development of the offensive line and you
03:29know
03:29what does the skill group look like with Speedy Naylor joining you know Jack Batch who they drafted last
03:34year and and what is what does Brock Bowers look like coming back from the injury um there's just
03:41I think a lot of a lot of open questions there and what they're going to look like and I
03:45think
03:45you spend the you know the the spring and the summer figuring all that out and um you know whether
03:53or
03:53not you've got a you know uh the sort of infrastructure in place to make sure you're not putting the
04:00weight
04:00to the world on the kid's shoulders in his first year Albert uh the station had Brian Baldinger on
04:05earlier and he kept referencing this clean slate for Deshaun Watson and it seems to be a trend over
04:09the past like week or so people just talking about as if like you just you gotta ignore everything that
04:14previously existed with Deshaun and now you just start fresh and you start new how possible is that
04:21is that a thing that can even be achieved to just give someone as clean of a slate as it
04:25seems like
04:26five six different other people we've had on the station want to give Deshaun Watson
04:31yeah I I think it's you know I I think like if you're the Browns and I've said this to
04:36you guys
04:36over and over again like I I just look at the amount of money invested and it's it's going to
04:41wind up
04:42being 230 million dollars and the draft picks that you put into it you didn't have a first rounder for
04:46three straight years and like I just don't know why you wouldn't at least want to make sure in this
04:54last year which is a year of transition anyway whether or not like whatever got him into the
05:00top five or so quarterbacks in the league whether or not that's in there at all anymore you know um
05:05and I think if you start the season with Shadu or Sanders or Dylan Gabriel it becomes really hard
05:11to do that you know what I mean I think you almost with a veteran player you almost have to
05:15start
05:16with him as your starter and if it doesn't work out then it's really easy to go to one of
05:21the young
05:21guys you know um but I've said this and I've I a lot of people have attacked me for it
05:26whatever I
05:27can take it um but I mean I think if you're talking about like who has a chance to be
05:32a top show who
05:32has the best chance to be a top shelf quarterback who's the most talented quarterback on the Browns
05:36roster and you know I I still think there's very little question that it's Deshaun it doesn't mean
05:42the other guys aren't going to make it but if you just look at the success rate of guys like
05:46um of guys who are drafted in the top you know in the top half of the first round versus
05:51guys in
05:51the third and fifth rounds if you if you just look at the physical ability versus the other two
05:56um yeah I still think Watson's got the best chance even if it's a very small chance of actually getting
06:01back where he was before Albert looking at this uh the Browns have gotten a lot of compliments on
06:07the offseason between the draft and free agency rebuilding the offensive line uh getting those young
06:13wide receivers in there uh I think I also saw Warren Sharp has uh the Browns having the fourth
06:18easiest schedule in the NFL this year big picture uh where I know it's early and I know some things
06:25have
06:25to play out here but where kind of your mentality of where the Browns should be because I still see
06:30a
06:30lot of power rankings and have them as one of the three worst teams in the NFL yeah I mean
06:37I think
06:37the quarterback position and the uncertainty of the quarterback position certainly holds them back
06:41um and I think there are a lot of ifs you know so they're going to be relying on younger
06:46players
06:47um they could continue to retool the roster um and continue to invest in the future and like I I
06:53think
06:53like if you look at like where they're at like to me what a lot of this is going to
06:58ride on
06:59is the development of Mason Graham and Carson Swessinger and Harold Finn and and and and and and
07:05and Quinchon Judkins and Dylan Sampson and I can go on and on and then you take the rookies from
07:10this
07:10year and and what does Spencer Fano look like in his first year and Casey Concepcion and Denzel Boston
07:16and it's just you've got like now this baseline of young players and you had to do that and I
07:22think
07:23Andrew Barry and his staff and and and and the new coaching staff did the right thing and continuing to
07:28to pour into the amount the volume of players that they could bring in that are younger because
07:34the the group that was built around Miles Garrett and Denzel Ward and Joel Batonio and those guys
07:39had aged out um so now I mean now I think you see where it goes and um and and
07:47again like
07:47a huge piece this is going to be the player development piece of it and and and and the
07:52job that they can do with all those first and second year guys they have on the roster
07:56Albert a few days ago Shiloh Sanders told Mary Kay Cabot to go go make me a sandwich I think
08:01was
08:01the line that ended up coming out and then he doubled down on it he went on a Instagram live
08:06and was just basically just he didn't help himself let's put it that way there was no sense of like
08:10man that post got away from me uh did anybody in league circles or anyone you talked to did they
08:16discussed that type of situation like that's not Shador can't be held accountable for that but it still
08:21is not great yeah I mean I I didn't really have anybody bring it up to me but I do
08:26think like
08:26there's like that there's that piece of it which is like it just it seems like there's always
08:32something going on around Shador you know what I mean like and and and this it's like hard to blame
08:37him for it it's his brother but it's still something that's creating a headline you know
08:41and like I I don't know I mean like I like I I hate to put it this way but
08:47like how many other
08:48siblings of players would feel liberty to say something like that and even if they did um like
08:56like how many situations would it catch the sort of attention that this did you know and that's just
09:02sort of part of the package with Shador Sanders and it's part of why he fell last year quite
09:06honestly because you know I think the teams that saw him as a backup quarterback look at it and say
09:11well you know if you're a backup quarterback and um if you're a uh if you're if you're if you're
09:18your ceiling is to be a backup quarterback for us we're not going to be tolerant of all this other
09:22stuff going on. Albert I know you had Brady Quinn on uh your your podcast today you guys got into
09:29the Brendan Soresby situation the latest as I know it is he's retained counsel to try and push
09:36the NCAA to allow him basically just clarity on his availability for 2026 and if he doesn't get that
09:44he's very likely going to enter the supplemental draft I know you and Brady kind of talked about
09:50where you think he could go how likely is it you think that he goes in the supplemental draft and
09:55how big of a market do you think there actually will be for Brendan Soresby coming off the the
09:59gambling uh scandal? If he enters the supplemental draft I think he'll go I think he'll be a second
10:07rounder would be my guess um I think there's all an outside chance he goes in the first round
10:14and I you know I I just I look at the landscape and it kind of seems like that's the
10:19likelihood to me
10:20now you know I just you know part of the reason why he you know brought in Jeffrey Kessler who's
10:26kind of the boogeyman to a lot of the big sports leagues right and um the reason he brought in
10:32Jeffrey Kessler the reason Tech has lawyered up is because I think they want to try to expedite the
10:37process and they want to try to see if they can accelerate the decision here one way or the other
10:42so everyone can can move on with whatever the result is so those lawyers are now going to try to
10:47negotiate some sort of suspension that'll get him back on the field at some point this year
10:53um if that doesn't work you know then um you know I think the idea of like actually filing a
11:02lawsuit
11:02and going after these guys like I think is honestly it might be it might be a fool's errand you
11:09know I
11:10like I the the rule's pretty cut and dry he's already admitted to the wrongdoing and I mean you know
11:16the the path you would take in that case is that you would file um you file the lawsuit then
11:22you'd
11:22file an injunction file for an injunction and to get the injunction you have to prove that there's
11:28a likelihood that you win the case but this one seems pretty cut and dry uh that he broke the
11:33rule
11:33and so I don't know that they would get he would get the injunction so it's just complicated for that
11:38reason and um my guess is then you know you'd probably be looking at him entering the supplemental draft
11:44and you know I look at like teams like the Browns and the Dolphins and the Jets and the Cardinals
11:48as ones that could look at it and say it's worth flipping a second round pick for a guy
11:52who might might have wound up being a top five pick in the 2027 draft if he went and played
11:58the season
11:59out at Tech um and then I think you even have some teams maybe swing a first rounder
12:03or a team like a Minnesota or Pittsburgh that thinks well we're going to be drafting late in the round
12:08anyway so we won't have a chance to get a quarterback next year so let's just do it now
12:13uh David Njoku visited the Chargers on a visit yesterday and last month he visited with the
12:18Ravens does he does not have as rich of a market as he not only would like but maybe some
12:23people
12:23expected yeah I think that's probably it you know I look I think with a lot of these guys they
12:28get
12:29used to making a certain amount of money um and a lot of them and I think David Njoku fits
12:33into this
12:33category like feel undervalued over the course of their career and they see what other people are
12:38making and then when they finally make it to the market they have this idea of what they're going to
12:42make and you know it doesn't turn out that way and they wind up sitting on the market for a
12:47while
12:47so I think that's sort of like where David Njoku is right now and he's just got to get comfortable
12:51with the fact that he's not going to hit a certain price point um you know I think there's also
12:57all
12:57right like you know what what what level of player are you getting at this point how much does he
13:03have
13:03left as a blocker is he just a big receiver at this point there are some questions on the field
13:07too
13:07but I think the bigger thing is um accepting where the market is and look like he's not unique
13:13that way there are a lot of guys that that fall into that where you know they have an idea
13:17of how
13:18much they're going to make when when free agency starts in March and and and and when they fall
13:23short of that they have a little bit of trouble they have a little trouble accepting it and then
13:27sometimes we'll you know we'll sit like hoping that you know maybe somebody gets desperate with an
13:33injury or something but um I'd say that's where he's at right now and you know I think going to
13:38a team like the Chargers team like the Ravens would make sense I mean those teams value the tight ends
13:43Albert uh many people have been suggesting the next 12 months about the March for Arch Arch
13:49Manning is the presumptive number one pick in the 2027 NFL draft is that the vibe around the NFL
13:56the teams are lining up for the right to take Arch Manning I wouldn't agree with that no like I
14:02think
14:02right right now if you ask people who've actually evaluated it I think I think you get the answer
14:09you get is that Dante Moore from Oregon is the leader in the clubhouse to be the first one taken
14:14now like Arch may have a higher ceiling but I think the trouble people have when they're evaluating
14:19Arch is like and and this is like I mean I think just the narrative is that like he's a
14:26really great
14:26athlete which is true you know he's a big athletic kid and I think there's this idea that he
14:32automatically has everything that Eli and Peyton had on top of that and that's not really the case
14:38right now you know like right now I'd say he's still raw as a passer he's inconsistent with his eyes
14:43he's inconsistent with his accuracy um you know he doesn't see it quite fast enough but he improved
14:50in all those areas over the course of last year so like I think what you're hoping for is that
14:56he's
14:56going to continue to progress the way that he did over the course of last year so he's not there
15:01yet
15:02I think there's a chance he goes first overall but you know when I'm looking at the guys now that
15:07that
15:08that will be eligible for the draft next year I put I put Dante Moore in front of him I
15:13think some
15:14teams might put CJ Carr from Notre Dame in front of him too um so like plenty of time to
15:19make up ground
15:20but I but I don't think he's he's the lead dog as it stands right now Albert we got a
15:24boogie great
15:25stuff as always buddy we'll talk to you next week all right thanks guys Albert Breer there
15:30I think MMQB on the wise heart right we make it right call Kyle Wright hotline
15:35you
