00:10Because we've had a lot of people on social media going, bleep him.
00:13But I am inspired by the calls because there's plenty of people going,
00:17don't like him, but he's still a quarterback of the Browns.
00:21If he does do well, it means the offensive line, as Lima illustrated,
00:26the offensive line is better.
00:27That means the O-line is better.
00:28That means the targets are better.
00:30That means Todd Munkin is better than what you fired.
00:34Yeah, I mean, 100%.
00:37Obviously, I don't have a rooting interest in the quarterback derby,
00:42but from a pure Browns perspective or a Browns fans perspective,
00:47what you're hoping for tomorrow is that the offense looks organized,
00:50the operation is clean and smooth.
00:53Deshaun Watson is throwing the football where it needs to go.
00:56He's on time.
00:57He's on target.
01:00And then that puts the pressure on Shador Sanders for next week against the
01:05Buffalo Bills for him to come out and do the same.
01:09And you rinse and repeat if you're a Browns fan.
01:11You want to see the same thing from Shador Sanders.
01:15I mean, just like from my standpoint, after watching practice, look, I mean,
01:19Deshaun has gotten better as the practices have gone on.
01:23He had a very slow start to training camp.
01:25He had a lot of throws where they were, quite frankly, cringeworthy because they
01:30were basic throws that he was missing and off target on.
01:33But he's been a little more accurate in recent practices.
01:36The operation offensively has looked a little smoother in recent practices.
01:42And he just, he looks a little more comfortable.
01:45See how that translates in the first half against Chicago.
01:49But I mean, that's just kind of where I'm at.
01:50Neither one of these guys have separated themselves.
01:53And I'm to a point now where three weeks into this thing, plus an offseason program,
01:59it would be nice if one of these quarterbacks distinguished themselves.

02:07You said you don't have a rooting interest in the quarterback.

02:14I mean, I'm not, but yeah, I'm not supposed to be rooting for anyone.

02:19I have a rooting interest, but yeah.
02:20I mean, that's why I laugh.
02:22You know, it's some of the fans, especially the Shador fans, who think that the media is openly
02:27rooting for Shador to fail, or, you know, we're just out to get this kid and, you know,
02:34be as negative as humanly possible.
02:37I chuckle at that.
02:38Yeah.
02:39I mean, you know, I'm not, I don't root for people to fail.
02:43If I root for anything, it's for the story, the best story.
02:49And, you know, from my standpoint, I think the best story would be Shador Sanders winning
02:54this quarterback competition, but, you know, he's, he's got to go out there and do that.
03:00But Daryl, when we talk at all about the stuff that a quarterback has to do in a Todd
03:09Munkin offense or any coach offense, I, the Shador fans get very irritated because they
03:14think it is a direct attack on the intelligence of their quarterback.
03:20And I, I guess I just don't understand like different, different quarterbacks all come
03:25along and mature at different levels.
03:27That doesn't mean that he doesn't have the capacity to do it.
03:30And so I've made the case that, is there a chance that it just might benefit him from
03:36having Deshaun Watson start the beginning of the year and then have, um, should or come
03:42in after, well, I've never questioned Shador's intelligence.
03:46I think he's a bright kid.
03:48Uh, he's got a tremendous amount of talent, uh, my view on him and some of the difficulties
03:55he has had, I've placed that on just, this is a new experience for him.
04:01Um, he never had to learn a playbook that is, is in depth and complex as an NFL playbook,
04:08whether it's last year under Kevin Stepanski or this year under Todd Munkin, he now had
04:14to reset this off season on top of it.
04:16He had to kind of forget what he learned last year and, and start from scratch and learn
04:20everything again for Todd Munkin's offense.
04:24That's a lot.
04:25And then there's Todd Munkin's offense where it's very demanding, uh, especially pre-snap
04:30the responsibilities of the quarterback, not just regurgitating these 18 word plays and,
04:36and it, you know, getting everyone lined up and, and, and going through all the pre-snap
04:41motions and realignments and shifts, right?
04:44There's a lot of stuff that you have to do before the ball was even snapped, which is
04:48why Todd Munkin has dedicated specific periods in practice.
04:53I coach Lance Reisland and I, we call them the perfect play periods because you, you, you
04:59do all the pre-snap stuff, you snap the ball, blow the whistle, you move on to the next
05:03card in the playbook.
05:04Um, there's just a lot that you have to do as a quarterback.
05:09And I don't view that as an intelligence thing for Shudder Sanders.
05:13I view that as a, Hey, this was a lot of stuff he's never had to do before and that
05:18he's being
05:18exposed to.
05:19I think he's gotten tremendously better, uh, as a quarterback, as we've gone through the
05:24off season program.
05:25And now we're almost three weeks into training camp.
05:28He himself looks better during practice than he did the first practice of training camp.
05:34So I think he's come a long way.
05:36Do I think he's a finished product yet?
05:38No, I don't.
05:39Do I think he needs some more time to develop and refine things with his game to play, uh,
05:45the game, the way Todd Munkin wants it played and the way you got to play it in the national
05:49football league as compared to college?
05:51Yes, absolutely.
05:52But I think that there's a lot of talent there and whether or not he could, you know, I understand
05:57where you're coming from Anthony about the potentially benefiting, uh, from Deshaun starting.
06:03So he gets more time to develop behind the scenes and keep doing what he's been doing.
06:07I do think that there's an argument that could be made for that.
06:11In fact, I think I've made that on occasion and I've gotten backlash for suggesting it.
06:16Um, and, and obviously the, the, the backlash being, well, if you start the Sean, it goes bad,
06:21then you throw Shadur in there.
06:23Now Shadur is back in, uh, mop-up duty again, like he was last year.
06:28And is that really fair to, uh, a quarter, a young quarterback in his second season?
06:32And for me, it's, Hey, playing time is playing time right now.
06:35And that's exactly what Shadur Sanders needs.
06:38You know, this is not going to be met with a lot of, uh, now I'm just arguing on your
06:42behalf.
06:43I'm not even asking a question.
06:45Uh, this is going to sound unfair and nasty and I just don't care anymore.
06:49Clearly the NFL, we know what the NFL thinks of him.
06:52I don't know how many different examples we have to get of what the, what the rest of
06:55the league thinks of him.
06:56So I think fair goes out the window in that case, because there's plenty of guys drafted
07:00where he was drafted that they never get a crack at it.
07:03Yeah.
07:03And, and the Brown, but the Browns here's, here's, here's what people miss in that.
07:08You can, cause you're absolutely right.
07:09The NFL has told you what they think of Shadur Sanders.
07:12Okay.
07:13Um, and I don't need a poll.
07:15I just look at where he was drafted.
07:16That, that tells you all you need to know after where he was drafted.
07:20I mean, you know, the people going after Sando and, and I'm like, don't shoot the messenger
07:24Sando because every time that we've had him on the station, he's like, these are not my
07:29things.
07:29This is a compilation of what the, the executives and the coaches and the scouts are all saying.
07:35Right.
07:36And, and look, and Shadur Sanders is getting an honest opportunity to win a starting quarterback
07:41job with the Cleveland Browns.
07:43The Cleveland Browns obviously don't think about Shadur Sanders and look at him through
07:47the same lens that the rest of the NFL.
07:50But see, everyone's focused on, uh, you know, the, this narrative, not everyone, I should
07:55say a large vocal minority of his fan base is just focused on all this negative stuff
08:02and how the media is haters and the Browns are haters and sabotaging this kid and want
08:07to see him fail.
08:08And it's like, no, I don't think anyone wants to see this kid fail.
08:12And again, it, it, it's, it's Tom Brady 2.0.
08:16If he can win the starting job here in Cleveland and lead the Browns to the Superbowl, like,
08:21I mean, that'd be the greatest story of all time in Browns history.
08:24So it, quite frankly, that'd be a pretty awesome story to write and talk about.
08:28But like, um, yeah, this, this, you know, the league has told you what the, they think
08:34of him and that's fine.
08:36Uh, it doesn't matter what the league thinks of him.
08:39What matters is what the Browns think of him and him maximizing the opportunity that
08:45he has with the Browns.
08:47Who's on the bubble going into tomorrow, Daryl?
08:51Well, to me, the bubble doesn't start forming until we get into that third preseason game.
08:57Oh, really?
08:59There's a, well, there's a lot of things that, um, that I'm going to be looking for.
09:04I think the defensive line depth is going to be critical.
09:07They're banged up there.
09:08Um, they got to sort out the rotation there in the corner and, uh, in basically the secondary,
09:13you know, who we, we know about Tyson Campbell and Denzel Ward and Miles Harden, right?
09:17Uh, we've seen a lot of Trey Avery, uh, in this camp, uh, you know, Miles Bryant, like,
09:24you know, which of these other cornerbacks in case these kids distinguish themselves?
09:29Uh, I think that that's going to be critically important.
09:31And then the fourth and, or I should say the fifth and sixth wide receivers spot, because
09:37we know who the four guys are keeping are, right?
09:39You got two jobs up for grabs and you got eight guys competing for them.
09:44Uh, so that too is going to be something very, very important to watch in tomorrow's game
09:50outside of just watching how Deshaun Watson performs.

10:16Are they not really thrilled with Isaiah McGuire?

10:19Yeah.
10:19I mean, uh, it's, and let's not forget about Genevieve and Clowney.
10:23They took a look at him too, before he signed with the Houston Texans.
10:27Um, and, uh, obviously Andrew Berry is concerned with the depth that they have, uh, at that position.
10:33You know, aside from Jared Burst and Alex Wright, those are your starters right now.
10:38You know, you've got, uh, Julian O'Quara, uh, you mentioned Isaiah McGuire, uh, Aiden Huntington.
10:45Um, uh, there's a, uh, Whiteley kid, Brendan, uh, Brent Benton Whiteley.
10:51Uh, so yeah, I mean, they're, they're very obviously concerned about their depth at the
10:56defensive and they should also be, I think, a little concerned about, uh, defensive tackle
11:02as well.
11:03They're a little shorthanded because of, uh, injuries guys in and out of the lineup.
11:06So I think what Andrew Berry is signaling is that he is keeping an eye on that position
11:13and he's looking for an upgrade, uh, there any way he can find it right now.
11:19And I think that's, that's what you read into, uh, not only them looking at Clowney, but then,
11:24uh, you know, uh, you know, Zedarius Smith and, you know, Hey, you bring, if you could bring
11:28back Zedarius, if the workout went well, wherever he gives you another, uh, older veteran,
11:33uh, voice in that locker room, um, I, I, I enjoyed, uh, his time here.
11:41Uh, I thought he was a really good player and, um, I, I think that he shouldn't have
11:47a problem fitting in here again, if, uh, they bring him back.
11:50I like him a hell of a lot better than I ever liked Jadavion Clowney in this locker room.
11:53I'll tell you that right now, brother, that is night and day for me, man.
