06 May - National Afternoon forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth.
Transcript
00:00Hello, good afternoon. It's going to be a pretty cloudy day today, a little bit cooler than yesterday as well.
00:06So a bit disappointing for the time of year, but I think most of us should stay dry.
00:10This is the satellite picture from this morning. It was a chilly start.
00:13We got down to minus six across parts of northern Scotland, the coldest May night for five years.
00:20Now we've got high pressure generally dominating our weather loosely though, so it's bringing pretty light winds.
00:26However, low pressure is on the way to more northern areas by the end of today and into Thursday as
00:32well.
00:33But for now, we've got high pressure dominating.
00:35Still a few showers here and there, particularly across coastal areas, eastern areas of England,
00:40seeing the cloud thick enough to just develop a few showers on and off through this afternoon.
00:44We could also see the winds come together across the southwest of England to develop some quite heavy showers across
00:50parts of Cornwall.
00:50So that's one to keep an eye on. A few showers also across parts of northwestern Scotland, northern Ireland.
00:56But elsewhere, it's going to be a dry day, pretty cloudy one.
00:59And as I said, a cooler day than yesterday, particularly across eastern areas of the UK.
01:05Here will just be highs of 10 or 11 degrees.
01:08So pretty disappointing for the time of year and particularly compared to recent temperatures as well.
01:14Highs of 16 degrees across the far south coast, however.
01:17So not too bad at all, especially if you do get caught in any sunshine.
01:21It's not going to feel too bad.
01:23But the skies will clear throughout tonight, particularly across eastern areas of northern England, central areas too.
01:28And here it will get cold enough to develop a frost by tomorrow morning.
01:33So again, a pretty chilly start to the day on Thursday.
01:36But in slightly different areas, we've got more cloud moving in to more northwestern areas.
01:40So slightly milder here than last night.
01:43But parts of northeastern England and into parts of the Midlands could see temperatures just below freezing in any rural
01:49areas.
01:50Temperatures should pick up pretty quickly through the day, however.
01:53Some sunshine as well to start the day on Thursday.
01:55Looking a little bit warmer across eastern areas into tomorrow as well.
01:59As I said, that low pressure pushes in from the north and west through Thursday.
02:03So spells of wet weather pushing into parts of western Scotland and northern Ireland, down to parts of northwestern England
02:09as well.
02:09We could see the odd shower into the afternoon.
02:12But elsewhere, it should be a pretty dry day and warmer than today across eastern areas.
02:17Temperatures quite widely in those mid-teens.
02:20Still a little bit lower than I think many of us would like, but certainly not too bad.
02:24And as I said, warmer than today at least.
02:27Now that low pressure continues to bring further bands of showery rain to parts of Scotland and northern Ireland.
02:32Northern England continuing to see the odd shower as well as parts of north Wales as well.
02:37Across the east there, it will turn clearer into Thursday evening and into Friday as well.
02:42We've got showery outbreaks of rain pushing up from the south, bringing mild air to southern areas while it stays
02:48cooler in the north.
02:49For more details on any of that, well, make sure you check out our YouTube channel and I'll see you
02:53again soon.
02:54Bye-bye.
