00:00Hello, good afternoon.
00:01The heat wave continues across many western areas whilst in the east today it's a much
00:06cooler day.
00:07That's because the wind direction has shifted overnight to more of an easterly direction.
00:12This is the satellite picture from this morning.
00:14You can see very little cloud across the UK.
00:17You can just about make out this cloud though across more northeastern areas.
00:21That's because that easterly wind is dragging in a bit more cloud across the east as high
00:26pressures situated up to the northeast of the UK.
00:29Continuing to sink that air, that's what's causing such high temperatures for the time
00:34of year.
00:35And that high pressure remains with us throughout today.
00:38Although most of us will see a dry day, there is a risk of a few showers.
00:42You can see on the radar from so far this morning there's been some heavy showers moving across
00:46the southeast and a few heavy showers into the southwest as well.
00:50We continue to see a risk of showers, potentially thunderstorms across many southern areas through
00:56the rest of the day.
00:57But I think most of us should see a pretty dry afternoon, a hot afternoon as well for
01:02parts of southern England as well as Wales.
01:05Northern Ireland seeing some of the highest temperatures they've seen so far this week
01:08as well as parts of western Scotland too as that heat is shifting further west through
01:14this afternoon.
01:15You can see that easterly wind is bringing a significantly cooler feel to the east coast.
01:20Temperatures just in the high teens for the far east coast, closer to the low twenties
01:25as you go a little further inland.
01:27But that cloud will linger through much of the day across parts of the east coast, bringing
01:31a much fresher and cooler feel.
01:33But the heat is going to return across the east into tomorrow.
01:37The highest temperatures though today expected across parts of the south and west, central
01:42southern areas of England could see 33 degrees into this afternoon.
01:47So another exceptionally hot day for May.
01:49That thunderstorm risk continues through the early part of the night and it pushes further north
01:54into parts of northern England, central England as well for some areas.
01:58Most of us should see pretty dry night however.
02:01I think from these thunderstorms you're not going to see much rain actually reaching the
02:05ground but you may hear rumbles of thunder.
02:07You may see some lightning too and some impressive clouds out there as well.
02:11Clear skies for the north and west as well.
02:14But it's going to be a warm night for parts of Northern Ireland, western Scotland with temperatures
02:18in the mid-teens here.
02:20Across the south coast we won't quite be kept in the 20 degrees like we were last night.
02:25We set another May record for the highest minimum temperature in Cornwall last night as temperatures
02:32didn't reach below 21.4 degrees.
02:36However, tonight will be slightly cooler but still pretty warm for the time of year.
02:39So I think it could be another uncomfortable one for sleeping.
02:43Into Thursday there's more in the way of cloud.
02:45Our winds shift direction to a more of a southerly direction.
02:48That will drag in plenty of cloud across the south and west.
02:52So quite a murky start for some coastal areas of Cornwall, southwest Wales and some hazy sunshine
02:57to come for much of western and central England.
03:01Further north and east a much sunnier and hotter day to come on Thursday.
03:06So temperatures will be climbing back towards the mid-twenties if not thirties across the
03:11south and east.
03:12Highest temperatures are expected in the London area.
03:15Highs of 32, 33 degrees are most likely.
03:18And another hot day for the west of Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland as well.
03:22This is how the temperatures compare to today's temperatures.
03:26You can see it's going to be a hotter day in the east, a cooler day across the south coast
03:31after some pretty exceptionally hot days so far this week and over the bank holiday weekend as well.
03:38It's probably going to be the last hot day as temperatures start to ebb away into Friday.
03:44Going to be quite a windy day actually on Friday for some northern areas.
03:47And then westerly winds start to bring in more rain, more cloud and some fresher air as well for the
03:55weekend.
03:55But remember there is a risk of thunderstorms throughout this afternoon, overnight and potentially into tomorrow.
