07 May - National morning forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth
Transcript
00:00Hello, good morning. Although it's a bit of a fresh start for some of us, it should be a little
00:04bit warmer this afternoon than yesterday.
00:07We've still got high pressure dominating, so fairly light winds for most of us.
00:11But across the north and west, low pressure's moved in overnight, and that will bring spells of wet weather to
00:17parts of Scotland,
00:17as well as some more western areas elsewhere in the UK.
00:21But for most of us, it should be a pretty dry day.
00:24Much of Scotland will see a bright start as well, but these showers will develop across more eastern areas into
00:29the afternoon.
00:30Some of these are potentially quite heavy.
00:32Further south, it should be quite a bright day.
00:35As I said, warmer than yesterday as well, particularly across eastern areas where temperatures will likely climb towards 15 or
00:4116 degrees quite widely.
00:44So a few degrees higher than yesterday, which should make all the difference, especially with lighter winds.
00:49So southwesterly winds through today, quite strong across more north-western areas of Scotland,
00:55particularly around this cold front that will stall through tonight across much of Scotland, bringing plenty of cloud around these
01:02areas.
01:03Further south, there will be a mix of cloud and clear skies, potentially some mist and fog around to start
01:08the day on Friday.
01:10Under the clearer skies, we could see a touch of ground frost, but for most of us, I think we'll
01:14just come close to freezing throughout Friday morning.
01:18It could be actually a relatively mild start in the far south-west.
01:22Where the winds remain light through the morning, it should be a pleasant start as well.
01:26However, Friday brings the risk of some quite heavy downpours for much of England and Wales.
01:32Not everyone will see any of these showers, and if you don't get caught in one, well, it's going to
01:36be a fairly warm day, actually.
01:38But when we do see the showers, it could last a little while.
01:41There's a risk of some very heavy, possibly thundery downpours.
01:45Temperatures, though, climbing towards 20 degrees in the south.
01:48But where this weather front is still lingering across the north, a cold-feeling day.
01:53Temperatures just about getting into double digits for parts of Northern Ireland and eastern Scotland in particular.
01:59Some brighter weather pushing into the far north-west of Scotland by the end of the day, but a fresh
02:04north-westerly wind.
02:05So, pretty split picture by the end of this week.
02:09Warmer weather in the south, turning colder from the north.
02:12And that story stays the same into Saturday, but from Sunday onwards, that colder feel, well, it will be more
02:18widely felt.
