00:00Good afternoon, another exceptionally hot day to come for southeastern England, likely to be the hottest day of this week
00:06with temperatures peaking at 35 degrees, which would be the seventh day we've had temperatures over 35 degrees this year.
00:14This is a satellite picture from this morning. You can see a swathe of cloud up to the north and
00:20west. That denotes a cold front, so ahead of that, very warm indeed.
00:24Behind that, though, much fresher. We've got northwesterly winds and cooler air, so for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland,
00:30it is going to be quite a fresh day with some relatively persistent rain as well.
00:35You can see that from the radar this morning. That rain will continue across parts of Northern Ireland, pushing into
00:40more central and eastern areas of Scotland through this afternoon.
00:44Ahead of that, across much of Northern England, parts of Wales, southwest England, it will cloud over a little bit,
00:49perhaps the odd spot of rain, but relatively dry away from where we see this frontal rain.
00:54Very dry and sunny and hot in the south and east. As I said, temperatures peaking at 35 degrees, that's
01:02in the London area, but across parts of East Anglia,
01:05we'll see temperatures in the low 30s towards the very high 20s, low 30s across central areas of England, the
01:11south coast of England as well.
01:13So, an exceptionally hot day. It is going to turn a little bit cooler for the rest of the week,
01:18though, as this cold front pushes further south, introducing that fresher air a little bit more widely across the country
01:24by Thursday.
01:25So, some cloud pushing into more central areas of the UK. Very little in the way of rain, though, as
01:30it does tend to fade away.
01:32We'll stay quite mild across the south and east overnight. A cooler night to come, though, further north and west,
01:38as this renewed area of low pressure returns to the northwest,
01:41bringing with it some quite heavy showers to parts of west Scotland in particular.
01:46More southern and eastern areas of Scotland remaining dry. The far south and east of Northern Ireland also seeing a
01:52dry night after a very wet afternoon indeed.
01:54So, a mild start to the day in the south and east. It will still be another very warm day
01:59in the southeast.
02:00Fresher, though, further north temperatures in single figures for some areas to start the day.
02:05Quite strong northwesterly winds will affect parts of western Scotland down towards the central belt.
02:10We're likely to see some thunderstorms in the mix of these showers in the north and west through Thursday as
02:15well.
02:15But elsewhere, it should be a dry day. This band of cloud, though, across the south and east could bring
02:21a little bit of drizzly rain just for a time,
02:23but I wouldn't hang your hat on it too much. I think for most of us, it's going to be
02:27a pretty dry day on Thursday.
02:29That's away from these heavy showers in the north and west. So, still quite a lot of sunshine around.
02:34Slightly more comfortable feel. The temperature's widely in the low 20s across more northern areas.
02:39The mid to higher 20s for more central and southern areas of England.
02:45So, slightly fresher. These are how the temperatures compare for tomorrow compared to today.
02:49And you can see the blue colours showing it's going to be a cooler day.
02:53It's particularly central and eastern areas of England that will really notice the difference.
02:57As we look further north, some areas are a little bit cooler, some areas a little bit warmer.
03:00But it's quite a different forecast for more northwestern areas compared to the southeast throughout today.
03:07So, a bit of sunshine around, sunshine and showers for the north and west.
03:11That cloud continues to push south and eastwards throughout Thursday evening, perhaps bringing the odd spot of rain to end
03:18the day to more eastern areas of England.
03:20But it does look like it's going to be a dry end to the week for most areas.
03:25High pressure still dominating.
03:26We've got northwesterly winds though, so it will continue to feel a little bit cooler than it will have done
03:31already this week with a risk of showers in the north.
