08 May - National Evening forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth.
Transcript
00:00Good evening. The divide between the colder air to the north and the mild air in the south
00:05continues into the start of this weekend. It is looking more widely colder into next week however.
00:11Now this cold front here is dividing the colder and milder air and where it lies well there will
00:17be thicker cloud and some outbreaks of rain through this evening especially for parts of
00:22northern England and southern Scotland. We could also see a few showers just to end the day across
00:26parts of Wales and the Midlands but otherwise it should be a relatively dry night for the far
00:31north as well as many southern and central areas with clearest skies and coldest air across parts
00:37of northern Scotland. Well there could be a touch of frost here to start the day but I think it'll
00:42mostly just be the most sheltered areas across the south despite the clear skies because it's a little
00:47bit milder here we should be frost free but temperatures still in the moderate single figures
00:53to start the day. Now that cold front continues to reside across parts of northern England and
00:59southern Scotland through Saturday so here it's going to be a pretty damp and cool feeling day.
01:04Further south a very different story another mild one even warmer than today across southern areas
01:09and again we could see a few quite heavy showers breaking out particularly across some north western
01:14areas of England northern Wales as well as southern Wales actually into the afternoon. But for many of
01:20us we should stay relatively dry through Saturday but what you can't see here is the real divide in
01:26the temperatures you can see across the south temperatures in the 20s across the north just in
01:32the low double digits just 10 or 11 degrees for some areas which is well below average for this point
01:38in the spring. And that colder field does sink southwards through Saturday evening this cold front
01:43loses much of the rain associated with it there's still quite a lot of cloud that pushes into central areas
01:49of England and much of Wales and behind it well clear skies will dominate and that will allow more
01:54widespread frost rurally to develop temperatures as low as minus three possibly minus four. In the south
02:01we should be frost free I think it's just as far south as northern England where we could see a
02:06rural
02:06frost to start the day on Sunday. But that frost should clear up quite quickly because there will be
02:12quite a lot of bright weather around to start the day on Sunday across many northern areas. Lots of cloud
02:18though across the south potentially a few showers across the south coast as well they should move
02:23away to the south into the afternoon and for many of us it should be a relatively dry day but
02:29the very
02:29far north of Scotland see the next weather front push in by the middle of the afternoon. So a bit
02:34of
02:34a split picture across more coastal areas to the north and the south but for most of us a dry
02:39and bright day
02:40not too bad in the sunshine either but it's going to be a bit colder on Sunday compared to Saturday
02:45temperatures closer to the mid teens if that to be honest which is below average once again.
02:50So a little bit disappointing if you're after some May warmth but don't forget the sunshine does have
02:56some strength at this time of year. Now next week does look relatively unsettled quite cool with fairly
03:02limited sunshine so make sure you stay tuned to the forecast if you're interested in more
