12 June - National afternoon forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth.
Transcript
00:00Hello, good afternoon. A bit of a drier and brighter afternoon to come compared to the weather we've had this
00:06week.
00:06But it has been a bit of a damp start for some of us. We do have a weather front
00:10across the UK.
00:11It's a waving weather front and a weakening feature because we've got high pressure building in across more southern areas.
00:18But low pressure is still close to the far north and will continue to be into the start of this
00:23weekend.
00:24But meanwhile, this high pressure will push in across more southern areas.
00:27So we've had quite a bit of rain across more western areas. That's pushing further east.
00:31But we will just see more in the way of cloud into this afternoon rather than too much in the
00:36way of rain.
00:36And there will be quite a bit more sunshine, particularly for western areas, parts of Wales, central areas of England,
00:42much of northern England getting away with a pretty fine afternoon.
00:45But it's the far north where we'll continue to see some quite heavy showers, particularly across western areas of Scotland,
00:52a brisk southwesterly wind as well.
00:54And it will likely remain relatively cloudy just across the far south coast of England too.
01:00But with more in the way of sunshine today, it is going to be a warmer day than yesterday by
01:04a few degrees, particularly across parts of England.
01:07Temperatures climbing quite widely into the low 20s.
01:10But further north, we've still got that strong wind. Temperatures just in the mid-teens here across parts of western
01:15Scotland.
01:16So a bit of a difference north to south.
01:18And we'll continue to see that difference into Saturday as well.
01:22Showers continue to push in across the north of Scotland throughout tonight.
01:26Elsewhere, it will be a dry and clear night for much of England and Wales, as well as Northern Ireland.
01:32There could be some mist and fog developing across the far south by Saturday morning.
01:36But otherwise, temperatures will fall away a little bit lower than they have done lately.
01:40Towns and cities, 11 or 12 degrees.
01:42Rurally, it will be a little bit fresher than that to start the day.
01:46But it is going to be quite a bright start to the weekend across much of England and Wales.
01:50And there will be plenty more sunshine to come through the day.
01:53UV levels will be quite high and pollen levels will be high as well for much of England, Wales and
01:59Northern Ireland.
02:00Scotland's seeing slightly lower UV levels because there'll be more in the way of cloud.
02:03And some rain, strong northerly winds as well, bringing a fresher feel.
02:08So temperatures across the north, 14 or 15 degrees.
02:11More in the way of clouds sinking into more eastern areas of England as well.
02:16So temperatures here will be a little bit lower than today into tomorrow.
02:20But across the south, more in the way of sunshine temperatures in the low 20s.
02:25So a bit of a split picture from the north to south throughout Saturday.
02:29High pressure is building in from the south, though, into Sunday to bring a more widely fine day.
02:35So we could see some mist and fog developing once again Saturday evening into Sunday across more southern and western
02:42areas of the UK rurally.
02:43But it's Sunday where this high pressure moves up from the south to become a more dominant feature across much
02:49of the UK.
02:50But we hold on to more of a northerly wind, which could continue to bring cloudier skies across the far
02:55north.
02:56So we'll see you next time.
02:56So we'll see you next time.
