00:00Coach, Lance Reisland here, 92.3 TheFanCleveland.com on the Make It Right Call, Kyle Wright Hotline.
00:06All right, Coach, welcome to the show, my friend. Happy Draft Day.
00:10Happy Draft Day, boys. What's going on? How's the bar down there?
00:13It's very nice. We're seeing a lot of our friends here.
00:16And as I'd mentioned, hot garlic parm is the flavor today for wings.
00:21I believe, am I correct that that's what you had last week that I stole from him, or was that
00:26Spencer German?
00:27No, Spencer, you got me onto the sweet chili, which was also fantastic.
00:32Yeah, I had to switch it up.
00:35See, look, we're getting shout-outs on the sweet chili here.
00:38My brand is growing.
00:39So I do want to ask you about KC Concepcion, because he is of the scariest prospects in the draft
00:47to me.
00:48I get it, he's fast, but I lived through a fast receiver that can't catch.
00:51His name is Anthony Schwartz.
00:52Where are you on KC Concepcion has been linked and mocked to the Browns a lot at 24?
00:57Oh, I like him at 24, and here's why.
01:00For me, when you catch the ball, there's two things that I look for.
01:04Is he a natural catcher of the ball?
01:06And he is.
01:06What he does is he has lasting concentration.
01:09So for me, if you have a guy that looks like he can't catch it, like it looks uncomfortable, that's
01:14when you worry,
01:15because you're going to continuously work on it.
01:17They're pros.
01:18But you've got to be a natural.
01:19You've got to be able to pluck that ball out of the air, and he does that.
01:21He's just really inconsistent with his concentration.
01:24So he's got to work on the catch and tuck.
01:26But the ball goes into his hands fine.
01:28And what they want to do with him, I think he's fine.
01:31He's going to be working that underneath stuff.
01:33But you're talking about a guy that gets you where you need to get to on second down.
01:38Not only is he going to get you big explosives off short plays, but remember, you've got a guy that's
01:42going to allow you not to have all 11 guys be right.
01:45And that's where the Browns have been for six years, where everybody's got to be right on offense for them
01:49to score.
01:50A guy like Casey Concepcion, Omar Cooper, these guys who can get the ball and create easy yards will help
01:56this offense and help these young quarterbacks.
01:58A couple things, though.
02:00First off, I think it's a problem that we have so many guys on the team that can't catch already
02:03if we throw another guy in there that can't catch.
02:04But you're not the first person I've heard use it where they describe it as a lack of concentration,
02:10as if to almost excuse the idea that he has these drop passes.
02:13But if he can't concentrate in college, isn't the expectation that he won't be able to concentrate in the pros
02:18as well?
02:19Well, you know, it comes down to his position coach and how they look at it.
02:24And what ends up happening is that you get a guy like him, he's always been better.
02:28And when you get a guy who's always been better, he's been able to get away with bad habits.
02:31And again, have the Browns done their homework enough to see him?
02:35You know, I want to see him like literally just play catch.
02:38And when you see a guy play catch for me, you know if he's a natural catcher of the football.
02:42I think he is.
02:43So those laps in concentration aren't because he's being lazy, aren't because he's not focused.
02:49It's because he's trying to do what he does best, which is run after catch.
02:52So there's going to focus on making sure it's in the tuck before you get going.
02:55But no, I really don't see it.
02:58You know, the guys who, you know, when you look at Anthony Schwartz.
03:00It's more like wrong concentration than lack of concentration.
03:04Yeah, I agree with you.
03:04Yeah, it's the idea that he's trying.
03:06He's always been, he knows when he gets the ball, he can go score, especially at the college level.
03:11That won't be the case.
03:12So catching the ball is always the primary goal, you know, especially in the NFL.
03:16But he'll be fine.
03:17I think that's a good way to say it.
03:18It's just that he's got to do it in order.
03:20He's got to catch the ball first before he starts to run.
03:23You see him a lot with the head turning upfield to run.
03:25That's all just reps and being coached.
03:28All right, so while we're talking drafting for need, I know you and I are both more simpatico about let's
03:35get some good football players in here than maybe people who are more, you know, you got to take a
03:40wide receiver, you got to take a tackle.
03:41But if the Browns decide tackle and wide receiver will be their first round, what do you, or what's maybe
03:49the most optimal way that could do that?
03:52Wide receiver first and then tackle later or stripe that and reverse it?
03:56And who would those names be for you?
03:58Well, I think you've got to look at, do they, what are they, the top three receivers?
04:02What do they think of Lemon?
04:03What do they think of Tate?
04:04And what do they think of Tyson?
04:05So if they think those guys are really, really high on their board, if they think they're excellent, you've got
04:08to go get them.
04:09Like, I think you've got to go get them with six.
04:11Because I think at tackle, you know, you never know about Freeling.
04:14He could slide because of experience.
04:16And then Iachor, he's a guy that I think is out of this world.
04:19I think he has the most talent.
04:21And I don't think he's a guy that you've got to plug in right.
04:23You've got Jenkins.
04:25You do, you know, obviously you don't, you're not relying on DeJuan.
04:27But there are bodies and guys who have played well out there.
04:30I think he's really, really good.
04:32And after I get out of the top ten, for me, then it kind of, the need kind of slides
04:36in there.
04:37And now I'm looking for guys who have elite traits and have seen it on film.
04:42And for me, I love Freeling.
04:43I think he's outstanding.
04:44But I think Iachor's got the highest ceiling.
04:46He may have, the more you watch him, he may have the highest ceiling.
04:49So if I were the Browns and that's the route they're going to go, I'm going with Lemon.
04:53And then I'm going with Iachor at 24.
04:56Coach, I heard you last night.
04:58Just tell me if I heard it wrong.
04:59I got the impression in you describing the three wide receivers that you think Lemon is the best of the
05:04three.
05:05Did I mishear that?
05:06No, I do.
05:06I think he's the best of the three.
05:07Yeah, he's number one on my board.
05:09So where's the disconnect?
05:10Why do you think he's number one?
05:13And why do you think he's ahead of the other two we've been talking about in back of that, in
05:17Tate and Tyson?
05:18And the draft majority disagrees with that assessment?
05:22Well, you know, I will look at Tate.
05:23First of all, he's an outside guy.
05:24And I think outside guys are really good in system offenses.
05:27But they're not guys who are going to get your run after a catch.
05:30And they're not guys who are necessarily matchup guys.
05:32That's what Munkin is.
05:33Munkin's going to find matchups.
05:34And I think Lemon can go inside or outside.
05:36He's a very tough guy.
05:37He's competitive at the catch point.
05:39But more importantly, he's going to get your run after catch.
05:42I actually have Lemon first and Tyson second.
05:45I would have Tyson first if it wasn't for the injuries.
05:48The injuries do bother me just because of how he plays and how electric he is and how he contorts
05:54his body.
05:54Those can lead to injuries.
05:56I love Tate, but I love Tate and system offenses.
05:58And, again, he's not a guy who's going to give you a ton right after the catch.
06:01I do think he's going to be an outstanding receiver.
06:04But in Munkin's offense, again, your O-line is going to be – so, for me, Lemon is kind of
06:09the best of both worlds now if you're going receiver.
06:11I think he's the best receiver in the draft, and he fits what the scheme is.
06:15So, you get lucky.
06:16I would take him anyway, even if it was his system offense, but I think he's the best guy after
06:21catch.
06:21He's the best guy that – I've got to find a matchup against a backer.
06:25I've got to – you know, I like a corner that he – you've got a tall corner.
06:28He's so elusive.
06:29He can go outside.
06:30So, I just think his skill set for what Munkin likes to do and the idea of finding matchups, I
06:35think he's the best guy in the draft at the receiver spot.
06:38All right, Coach, let's talk about six.
06:40Is there a player that they could draft at six that would have you scratching your head and really questioning
06:46the draft philosophy of Andrew Barry this year?
06:50Caden Proctor.
06:51Absolutely, Caden Proctor.
06:52It would be without question, just because when you hear people talk and you watch them on film, and the
06:57thing that worries you is because, you know, that's how they do things.
07:00And, once again, I like – you know, I'm not necessarily into all the numbers that Andrew Barry uses, but
07:05that's his style.
07:06And I like guys who stick with what they do well, and that's how he operates.
07:09Whether we like it or not, that's how he operates.
07:11And a guy like Caden Proctor checks a lot of boxes in terms of footwork and arm length and all
07:17these numbers that they like.
07:18So, when you see him on paper, he's probably the best tackle on paper in this draft.
07:23But there's got to be a – what those numbers don't measure, especially up front on offense, is one-two.
07:28And the daily grind of being an offensive lineman, which is really, really hard to do.
07:31You get no limelight, only time people know you is when you do it wrong.
07:34And I just don't know – I just haven't seen that one-two at six.
07:38I wouldn't take him at 24 either.
07:41That's a hard thing to out-coach, you know, the idea that you never lose your stripes.
07:45That's real.
07:46And if you're a guy that – if it's not a passion and it's a job, then offensive line is
07:52going to be really tough.
07:52And you see those guys that get in and out of the league really quick because it's a job.
07:57And if it's not a passion, it's like, why would Joe Petonio want to play more years?
08:00Because football is his passion.
08:02He likes to play.
08:02He likes to put the pads on the down block and double team and do all those things.
08:06I just don't see that out of Caden Proctor.
08:08Could I be wrong?
08:09Could he be a young kid?
08:10Absolutely.
08:10But I'm going with what I see on film when the play's away or when you get a big run
08:15as you go celebrate.
08:17There's just not – there's not a ton of want to in my opinion.
08:20Matt Miller reported earlier today – in fact, like an hour ago on ESPN – that he doesn't anticipate the
08:27Browns – that's what he's hearing.
08:29He doesn't anticipate the Browns taking a quarterback in this draft at all.
08:31Do you buy into that logic that they won't end up taking a quarterback at all through any of the
08:36rounds of the draft?
08:38I would hope not.
08:39And for me, I think what – I think what – the health of Deshaun, I think, you know, Shador
08:46looked really, really good.
08:48You can tell he's been working on his craft.
08:49And I just think there's so many holes on this offense.
08:51I don't care how many picks they got.
08:53You know, you can get a guy like Zachariah Branch on day three.
08:55I'm not saying it'd be a wasted pick.
08:57But you got two guys that you really – you need a guy coming back off major injuries.
09:00You got two other guys who are projects in themselves.
09:03I just don't know if you want to throw another project in there.
09:05And the bottom line is, is that everybody's talking about the 27 quarterbacks.
09:09And rightfully so.
09:11It's a really outstanding group.
09:12Bottom line is, Munkett's trying to win week one.
09:15And whoever that quarterback is week one, I don't know if another quarterback helps them decide that.
09:20You know, that means you have to get more reps to other guys.
09:22I just think you go with the guys you have, get some things around them,
09:25and then you'll know what you have for the future at the quarterback position.
09:28So, I don't think they will, and I don't think there's a guy out there, including Mendoza,
09:33that is, I think, both Watson and Shador Sanders.
09:36And I think Dylan Gabriel is a good person on this team in terms of what he brings as a
09:43third-string guy if he's here.
09:44So, I think they have a room that they'd be happy with and shouldn't waste that pick.
09:49And go get some guys that can make some plays for you.
09:53All right, Coach, we appreciate you, buddy.
09:55You've been killing it all draft season long, certainly back in the regular season as well.
10:00We appreciate you.
10:02Great job, man.
10:03You've been really awesome.
10:04I know we're going to keep having you on.
10:05I just want to give you props, too, bud.
10:07Well, I appreciate it.
10:08You guys, too.
10:09It's awesome to listen to you guys every day.
10:10It's been a long time.
10:11I don't know about you guys, but, you know, paralysis from analysis.
10:14I'm looking to get this going, see what the Browns do.
10:17Right there with you, buddy.
