00:00Daryl Ryder. Hello, D.
00:01Hello, Daryl.
00:02Hello, boys.
00:03How are you?
00:04About to go see the hairstylist in about, oh, 15 minutes.
00:07Hey, Daryl.
00:08That's a lot of work there, man.
00:09You've had hair for a long time.
00:11What the hell is going on?
00:12Not like it is now.
00:15Just stepping it up, Jeff.
00:16Just stepping it up.
00:17Well, the boy.
00:18That's my guy right there, I'll tell you what.
00:21Also to rub it in.
00:23That's all right.
00:24Wow, that is wrong.
00:2615 years, I've never done that to him.
00:28I'm married to an absolute babe.
00:29I've got three great kids.
00:30I'm happy in life.
00:31Oh, man.
00:33Who turned the air conditioning at?
00:34But I still buy 99-cent shampoo just for the idea of scrubbing what's left.
00:39Man to dream.
00:41I used to ask my barber all the time, if I lost half my hair,
00:44does that mean I get 50% off my haircut?
00:46And he said, no, I have to charge you double
00:48because I've got to do twice the work to make you look good.
00:50Wow.
00:52Yeah, well, it's all worked out.
00:54Yeah, I took that as a little shot across the bow.
00:57Yeah, got to get below the frost line.
00:59It's working for you, D.
01:02Okay, we'll start with this.
01:03We're going to have you play a little game we played earlier,
01:05but we're going to start with this.
01:07Do they draft at 6?
01:09Do they trade down?
01:10Do they draft at 24?
01:12Do they trade up?
01:16I don't think that they will pick at 6.
01:19I think they will trade down.
01:22I do think they will pick at 24.
01:25Okay.
01:27So, that's how I think this will play out tonight.
01:31I do think that because they've been trying,
01:34they've been receiving phone calls for 6,
01:37and so I think they'd like to slide down a couple of spots.
01:42There's a lot of buzz the last 24 to 48 hours about this run on offensive linemen
01:48that supposedly is going to take place here tonight,
01:51and obviously that's a position of need for the Browns.
01:56They need another offensive tackle, and so, okay, that's all well and good,
02:02but maybe the guy that they want, maybe he's not valued at No. 6.
02:09You know what I'm saying?
02:10Maybe he's valued a couple of spots down there in the first round,
02:15so not only do they pick up extra draft assets,
02:20but they then go ahead and pick a guy they want where I guess he's supposed to go
02:26if that makes sense.
02:27So, I really do believe that that's going to be Andrew Barry's strategy
02:33going into this thing tonight, and then we shall see.
02:38There's a big part of me that thinks a left turn is coming somewhere,
02:42so we'll see what happens tonight.
02:45I'll give it.
02:46By the way, I did the math.
02:47Browns will be on the clock around 8.50 tonight,
02:50depending how fast the TV network guys got to talk
02:56and how long before the Raiders go on the clock,
02:58and this thing really gets going.
03:00But, yeah, around between 8.50 and 9 o'clock,
03:03the Browns should go on the clock.
03:04But they got to get at least one commercial break in before.
03:06So, you're probably 15.
03:08Of course.
03:09You're probably 16, 17 minutes off.
03:10Yeah, so you're probably looking at 9 o'clock then.
03:13Yeah, that's what I – that was what I say.
03:15I predicted that.
03:16What a guy.
03:17Daryl, all right, so you think something big could happen?
03:20I'm going to throw you something I threw out earlier in the show,
03:22and it's just purely hypothetical, right?
03:24Well, define – you've got to define big.
03:27Oh, this is big.
03:28This is big.
03:28Okay.
03:29You like that number one pick?
03:31Yeah, if you wanted Mendoza,
03:33would the Raiders be willing to take both of our first-round picks this year,
03:37our first-round pick next year?
03:38And I put Shador Sanders in there because there was interest from the Raiders
03:41in him last year for the number one overall pick.
03:47I don't think there's any chance of that happening.
03:49Is that not enough for the Raiders, or is that too much for the Browns?
03:52I think the Raiders are taking Fernando Mendoza, and that's just going to be that.
03:56I agree.
03:56You think the shop is closed?
03:57I don't disagree with you, but, I mean, if I'm going to dream,
03:59I'm going to dream big.
04:01And if I'm Andrew Barry, would you at least call on that?
04:03Would you even say, hey, listen, I'm willing to do this.
04:06Do you think the Browns would be willing to do that?
04:08No, because then you've got to play my game that I like to play.
04:13And that is, which, you take Fernando Mendoza, right,
04:19who is not the best player in this draft, not by a mile.
04:26But he's the best quarterback in the draft.
04:28Correct.
04:28And then you put him next to Arch Manning, which is the better player right now?
04:33Arch Manning, Fernando Mendoza.
04:35Dante Moore, Fernando Mendoza.
04:37Julian Sayan, Fernando Mendoza, right?
04:40I think a lot of people would say Manning, Moore, Sayan, all better than Fernando Mendoza.
04:46So you don't make the phone call.
04:47You hold out for 2027.
04:50Yeah.
04:50I just, that's just, that's the lens with which I'm looking at this whole thing.
04:56Now, if you say, to go the other way, Andy, if you say, oh, Fernando Mendoza above and beyond,
05:01better than any of those guys you just named, right?
05:04Then, yeah, you pick up the phone.
05:05You make the call.
05:06You see if the Raiders would be willing out to move out and what would it take.
05:11But I don't think that that's the case.
05:13So that's why, it's not that I'm dumping on your idea.
05:17I understand where you're coming from.
05:18No, I'm just going to hypothetical.
05:19Yeah, I just don't think it's realistic.
05:21I think the Raiders are staying there.
05:23They're going to take Fernando Mendoza and waste eight minutes of our time tonight while
05:28they're on the clock doing so.
05:29Oh, more than that.
05:30Yeah, but okay.
05:32Daryl Ryder joining us.
05:34He's brought to us by Scheiben Jewelers, Cleveland's premier jewelry store.
05:37I want you to play along with a game that Andy and I played earlier.
05:40I went through 14 mock drafts last night and calculated the general consensus of 14 mock
05:49drafts to see who would be gone when the Browns were on the clock at six, just assuming they
05:55stayed at six.
05:56Right.
05:57I want you to pick a guy at six after hearing that Fernando Mendoza, David Bailey, Arvel Reese,
06:06Jeremiah Love, and Sonny Stiles are gone.
06:10That leaves Caleb Downs, Spencer Fano, because this is what it might be tonight.
06:16You know, something like this.
06:17Spencer Fano, Ruben Bain, Jordan Tyson, Maui Noah, and Carnell Tate are all available.
06:23Okay.
06:23I'll give you three options.
06:25What I would do, the left turn, and then what I think the Browns are going to do, okay?
06:31Yep.
06:31But what I would do is I would take Caleb Downs because he, to me, is the second best
06:36player in this draft class.
06:37You agreed with Andy and me.
06:39Go ahead.
06:39Next.
06:40Okay.
06:41Does that make you want to change?
06:43I'm sorry.
06:43You said Caleb Downs.
06:45Yes.
06:45Yes.
06:46Okay.
06:46I'm sorry.
06:46Andy and I said Carnell Tate.
06:48Okay.
06:50I don't think Carnell Tate is a top two player in the draft class.
06:54That's why I'm passing him.
06:55Okay.
06:55I'm taking the best player available.
06:58Okay.
06:58And to me, that's Caleb Downs.
07:00All right.
07:00Based on the players you gave me.
07:02The left turn, hold on to your butts.
07:06Okay.
07:07Ruben Bain, Jr.
07:09Wow.
07:10Okay.
07:10Okay.
07:10Because they want to team him up or he's the future.
07:16However you want to play that out in your mind.
07:18You're the one.
07:19I'm asking you.
07:20Is he the future?
07:22Or, and then.
07:23He's both.
07:24Gives you flexibility and potentially fills a future need.
07:28Okay.
07:29What I think they should do.
07:31Oh.
07:32And I'm going to credit Coach Riz on this one.
07:36Just because of looking at the offensive linemen that they brought in this offseason.
07:41Right.
07:41And one word stands out when you look at them.
07:44And that's versatility.
07:46So, who is the best, most versatile offensive lineman available in this draft class or one of them?
07:54And I think that's Spencer Fano.
07:56Spencer Fano.
07:57Now, I don't know.
07:58And also comes from the right school.
08:00Right.
08:01It's, you know, like wide receivers.
08:02You want them from Ohio State.
08:03Your offensive lineman, you want them from Utah.
08:06You know what I mean?
08:06Yeah.
08:07You get really, you know, or Iowa.
08:10So, but, and again, this is where the whole trading down thing comes into play.
08:16Is that the value at number six?
08:19Me, I'm just like, just take the dude.
08:21Like, stay react.
08:22Take the dude.
08:22Let's not get cute and all that.
08:24And allow other people to dictate how your draft board will fall.
08:29But that's, you know, so there you go.
08:32If I were making the pick, it'd be Caleb Downs.
08:34The left turn would be Reuben Bain Jr.
08:37And what I think the Browns ultimately would do, that would be Spencer Fano.
08:41Well, let me ask you this.
08:42You said, in your mind, Caleb Downs, second best player in the draft.
08:46I get it.
08:47I get it.
08:48He's an outstanding football player.
08:50A lot of folks think Jeremiah Love is the best football player in this draft.
08:54Raising my hand because I'm one of them.
08:56If he's there, you take him?
08:57Yes.
08:58But I'm going to tell you right now, if he's there, the Browns will not take him.
09:03I'm fairly confident that they won't take him.
09:06And a lot of it has to do with roster building.
09:08And if he's there, that would also trigger a trade-down opportunity to allow somebody to come up and get
09:16him at six.
09:18I'll be honest with you.
09:19I don't think he gets by either the Titans or the Giants.
09:23I don't think so either.
09:24I don't think he gets by Tennessee myself.
09:26I don't know how the best player in the draft can't even end up in the top five.
09:30That just, to me, is bizarre.
09:33And I realize it's the NFL home of the bizarre, but still.
09:37But they drafted two running backs last year in Quinshawn Judkins and...
09:45Dylan Sampson.
09:46Dylan Sampson, yeah.
09:47And so, spending three draft picks on the running back position, even though I consider love running back slash wide
09:59receiver.
09:59I think you're getting two players in one, and that's why I run that card up there if he's available.
10:04I just don't think that the Browns will do that.
10:06A point of reference, just so anybody gets mad, this is not a point, but we were talking about offensive
10:11line.
10:11Ohio State and Alabama are the top producers of the NFL offensive linemen, with Ohio State boasting the most drafted
10:1714 in the last 10 drafts, just because we know we have Buckeye fans listening.
10:21Somebody used Google, Derek.
10:22Well, I'm just saying I don't want anyone to be irritated, because I knew that...
10:25The point that I was trying to make is that, typically, offensive linemen from Utah and Iowa end up being
10:32very successful in the National Football League.
10:34And if my memory serves me correctly, the Browns have a former offensive lineman for Utah who did very, very
10:41well here over the course of a decade plus.
10:47Okay, well said, well said.
10:48Darryl, give me a response to this question.
10:52Yeah.
10:54Or statement.
10:54I gave up my question by making that statement.
10:57Well, you hesitated.
10:57You were getting ready to Google.
10:58I wasn't.
10:59I wasn't Googling.
11:00Go ahead.
11:00Ask your next question.
11:01There's no way Joe Batonio plays for the Browns next year.
11:04I don't think he's coming back.
11:06Okay.
11:07I think that that's very clear.
11:10They're leaving the door open in case he changes his mind on that.
11:16But, yeah, I don't think he's going to come back.
11:19Because I think if he's going to come back, we would know already.
11:22Like, he could have, you know, signed or whatever and then still sat out the offseason program and stuff like
11:32that.
11:32You know what I mean?
11:33Yep.
11:33We're at the draft.
11:35I just, I don't think he's going to come back.
11:38And also judging by how Andrew Barry answered the question last week, yeah, the door's open, but it doesn't seem
11:47like Joel's going to walk through it.
11:48Hmm.
11:50What will be a successful draft positionally?
11:52You don't even have to give me names.
11:53Well, no, wide receiver, offensive line.
11:55Those are the two biggest needs.
11:57That's, in my view, what they need to address.
11:59I will caution everybody just because I think that's what they need to do doesn't mean that is exactly what
12:04they're going to do.
12:05Now, I know everyone's mocking them with an offensive lineman, with a wide receiver.
12:11Casey Concepcion is the most popular wide receiver thought to be falling 224 to be there for the Browns to
12:18pick.
12:19And I'd be fine with that, but I'm expecting a left turn tonight because, you know, all of us were
12:27zeroed in on Travis Hunter a year ago at two.
12:30They traded down a couple of spots, but Jacksonville took Mason Graham, right?
12:34I think everybody was shocked that they took Carson Swessinger early in the second round of the draft as well.
12:40So, you know, just because we think they're going to do something doesn't mean that that's ultimately what they're going
12:46to do.
12:46So, just be prepared for a left turn tonight.
12:49And your work activities include?
12:52Well, we'll have all the stuff on YouTube.
12:55Obviously, we've got the Browns Radio Network on the air.
12:57And then I'll be with the Morning Boys tomorrow morning, as I usually am on Friday morning.
13:02And I'm sure we will have a lively conversation about tonight's proceedings.
13:07Outstanding, Daryl. Thank you very much.
13:09Thank you, Daryl.
13:10You bet, guys.
13:11Daryl, brought to us by Shive & Jewelers, Cleveland's premier jewelry store.
