00:00The Dangerous One, Daryl Ryder, joins us right now.
00:02He's brought to you by...
00:03Shire Van Jewelers, Cleveland's premier jewelry store.
00:06Hello, Dangerous One.
00:07Hello, boys. Good morning.
00:09Ask, real quick, ask Daryl the question you wanted to ask about LeBron.
00:14Well, we asked a few different questions there about LeBron.
00:16Do you think people in Akron are offended by LeBron saying he doesn't want to go home?
00:21No, because I think he said it to save face, number one.
00:25And number two, I think maybe he might have been referencing playing in Cleveland
00:28more so than going home to Akron.
00:30He's invested millions in Akron.
00:32Like, yeah, no, I don't think that had to do with Akron specifically.
00:38Do you want LeBron back even if he doesn't want to be here then?
00:42I said yesterday I don't care if he comes back.
00:45You don't care?
00:46No, I don't.
00:47Scored 30, by the way, last night and had 15 assists.
00:50Okay.
00:51Couldn't use that? Couldn't use that on the team?
00:53A wing?
00:54It's not about using it.
00:55It's about he's made good on everything.
01:00He won the championship in 2016.
01:03He already came home, four straight NBA finals.
01:06Like, from my standpoint, there's nothing left for him to prove or to do for Northeast Ohio.
01:13If he wants to come back for a farewell tour, great.
01:16If he wants to finish his career elsewhere, well, you know, he's earned that right.
01:21So, I'm kind of indifferent as to whether or not he comes back or not.
01:27That's odd.
01:28It's the only person I've never heard so far that's had a side of any of this.
01:32All right, Daryl.
01:33Daryl is brought to us by...
01:36Scheiben Jewelers, Cleveland's premier jewelry store.
01:38All right, Daryl.
01:39So, I'm getting some pushback here.
01:40I just want people to be open-minded, okay?
01:42Jeremiah Love at number six.
01:44And I've obviously got a lot of pushback on it.
01:47Like, hey, I'll take Carnell Tate.
01:49But if Carnell Tate's not there and I can't really get a big trade-up, it's like, well,
01:53why am I just passing on a player that can be very productive and very talented?
01:57Like, I just don't want to force a square peg into a round hole.
02:01Like, if they take Monroe Freeling at number six overall, all right.
02:06But he's probably not going to be on the field in the first series on offense in 2026.
02:12Well, I mean, there's three players that I would like the Browns to come away with.
02:20Two of them are Ohio State Buckeyes, obviously.
02:22Okay.
02:23And, you know, I think we talked about this on Friday.
02:26Like, I wouldn't have a problem if they drafted Jeremiah Love.
02:30He is an explosive, game-changing player offensively, which is something the Browns do need.
02:37Quinn Sean Judkins had a good rookie season up until he had gotten hurt, was very productive.
02:44Obviously, they also, you know, drafted Dylan Sampson, who contributed last year as well.
02:52There would be an argument to be made that you spent two picks on running backs last year.
02:56This would be a bit of a luxury pick.
02:58But you could also say the same thing about the potential of drafting Caleb Downs as well because the defense
03:05is pretty much set on that side of the ball.
03:07You have needs at tackle and wide receiver.
03:11But, you know, again, I think Caleb Downs is a game-changing type of player.
03:16And I'm not a big fan of passing on game-changing talent just to fill needs.
03:26So, and they've got five of the top 110 picks in this draft.
03:32The wide receiver group is thought to be pretty good, especially at the top.
03:37Not a lot of separation between the number one wide receiver and maybe the number 10 wide receiver.
03:41So, maybe you can wait until the 24th pick to take that particular player because you'll still get a good
03:49one.
03:49But, you know, if they went Jeremiah Love, it would be very hard for me to, you know, really go
03:57after him and rail against that selection because he is such a good player.
04:01Well, that's what I'm trying to say here, Daryl.
04:03Like, I can't believe a team that won eight games over the last two years, that's major problem, has always
04:07been offensive over those last two years.
04:09How we could be so narrow-minded about a guy just because he plays a position.
04:13Has it been a luxury position in the past? Yes.
04:15Is our quarterback play going to be that great this year?
04:17We don't anticipate it.
04:19So, obviously, that doesn't become a luxury.
04:21That becomes a necessity for us.
04:23Yeah, well, and he's a guy you can play in the slot.
04:26He's not just a pure running back.
04:29The prototypical, you just turn, hand the ball off to him.
04:32You can move him around the field quite a bit, and also, too, he could help you cover up some
04:40of the warts you have at the quarterback position right now because, let's be honest about it, that problem's not
04:46getting solved this year.
04:47You're going to go into 2027 with the same problem you've had for the last 27 years.
04:52So, if you can bring in a player that can help not just be a game-changer but also be
05:00a little bit of a safety valve, I do think that kind of makes sense.
05:04All right, Dale Ryder joining us right now.
05:06So, Carnell Tate, you know, we were talking about jerseys to buy in the city of Cleveland.
05:12If they get Carnell Tate, I think fans are going to be ecstatic.
05:17My question is, what are realistic expectations for him?
05:20Because I think in most drafts, he has no shot to be top 10, top 15, but obviously, this draft
05:26is this draft.
05:27How pumped should we be getting Carnell Tate at 6 overall?
05:31Well, I mean, if they take Tate, then, you know, my expectation would be is that he would be the
05:36number one wide receiver if we're talking expectations.
05:39So, and I think that that's fair, your top 10 pick, and, you know, come in and not only be
05:47the number one wide receiver, but have a tremendous impact.
05:52It cannot be – Braylon Edwards is kind of an unfair comparison, but I'm going to use it anyway because,
06:00you know, it took a couple of years for Braylon Edwards to have that impact, and then his impact was
06:05brief.
06:06You know, he had one really, really good season with the Browns, and that was the Derrick Anderson year in
06:122007, which was kind of like the Browns' offensive coming out party.
06:17It was like the first time in the expansion era where they really had a high-powered, explosive-type offense.
06:23You had, you know, Keller Winslow also had a 1,000-yard receiving season that year.
06:29I think they had six, seven Pro Bowlers that year, but, you know, as far as Carnell Tate goes, I
06:36think that's a pretty fair expectation.
06:38If you're a top 10 draft pick and you're a receiver, yeah, it should be thought that you're going to
06:44come in and be a game-changer, be the number one wide receiver in that room.
06:50Not just because of, you know, being drafted in the top 10, but that's a need for this team.
06:58They need a number one wide receiver so they can move Jerry Judy back to being the number two, which
07:04is where I feel Jerry Judy's talents are best used.
07:08So he's had to be the number one wide receiver because, well, the Browns haven't had that in a couple
07:14years, and it's a need.
07:15So, Jerry, they turned to him to try and fill that need, but, yeah, I think Carnell Tate would certainly
07:20have to fill that.
07:21Darrell, those veteran workouts start tomorrow.
07:24Let me ask you, does the quarterback competition in earnest start tomorrow morning?
07:28Yeah.
07:29Everything's evaluated at this point.
07:33Once they start getting in the building, yeah, everything counts.
07:38You know, you're showing up on time, meeting, participation, learning the new offense, right?
07:43They're not on the field yet.
07:44That's a couple of weeks away, but, yeah, absolutely the quarterback competition and at least the evaluation of the quarterbacks,
07:52that absolutely begins tomorrow.
07:54No question about it.
07:56Yeah, we've gotten into a whole interpretation of what the owner said about Deshaun Watson.
08:03I have a question.
08:04Have they even really seen him?
08:06Do they have any idea what the shoulder, which now we're, you know, over a year, you know, away from
08:13that surgery, two years away, three years away?
08:16Also, the Achilles.
08:18Like, do the team, does the team have any idea what they're getting with Deshaun Watson at this point?
08:23No, they have Instagram just like the rest of us.
08:25So, that's it.
08:26That's, they've got the workout videos.
08:28Whoa!
08:29Whoa!
08:31Whoa!
08:32Whoa!
08:33Whoa!
08:34I'm just saying.
08:36The highlight reels do look good.
08:38I can't lie.
08:40He does look good on the gram.
08:42You know, they'll certainly, I think, get a look of, you know, a better evaluation of them once they get
08:50into the offseason program because, you know, popping in the building prior to that is all voluntary and there's not
08:57much you're allowed to do.
08:58You can't really talk football with guys.
09:01You can't show playbooks, coaches, you know.
09:03You know, it's just, it's very limited to, at least in Deshaun's case, the training staff, you know, working with
09:11him because he did miss last year with an injury.
09:15So, you know, I have very low expectations.
09:19My expectations are he's going to look great on the practice field.
09:22People are going to ooh and ah and get really, really excited about him, throwing the football around against the
09:29threat of no contact whatsoever.
09:32Uh, but my anticipation is that we're going to have the same results that we have had every time he
09:39has come back for a missing significant time and that is the internal clock is going to be off.
09:45The processing is going to be off.
09:47Things are going to be moving too fast for him and then, you know, that's going to obviously affect what
09:53he's actually able to do on the field.
09:55So, I have very low expectations for Deshaun, but I do expect he'll probably win the competition because he's going
10:02to look good in practice because he's the most experienced.
10:05He's had to learn offenses before.
10:06He's been through offseason programs before and all those things, but I just, I don't think it's going to bear
10:13much fruit this fall.
10:14Do you think that they're starting to, with some of the comments that have been made, that they might be
10:18kind of laying the foundation for a runway for him to start?
10:21Because I do think that while there's some fans that are vehemently against him playing for the Browns ever again.
10:27Oh, I, oh, a hundred percent.
10:28They are, they are softening the ground for him to win that competition.
10:32A hundred percent.
10:34Um, yeah, there's no question about that, that that's, and that's smart on their part to, uh, lay that groundwork
10:42now, Ken,
10:43because there is a real possibility that he's your starter week one.
10:47I mean, that, that, that's not hyperbole.
10:49That's not trying to stir up any drama or anything like that.
10:52No, it's a real possibility.
10:53They've done nothing in that quarterback room right now.
10:56Shador Sanders ended the season as the starting quarterback for the team.
11:00Those two are going to be, uh, your main competitors.
11:03They're, you know, casually saying Dylan Gabriel's in there as well, because he's on the roster.
11:07And I think everyone forgot that he's still on the roster, but it's the Sean V, uh, Shador Sanders as
11:14of right now, subject to change, whether they, they, they make a move in the coming weeks or God forbid,
11:21they, uh, they, they draft the quarterback, uh, early, uh, in this upcoming draft.
11:27So as of right now, you just, would you, would you rather just trade out a six or would you
11:31rather just take Carnell Tate in realistic possibilities before I move on to another question?
11:36Well, I think they're going to trade out a six if they can.
11:40The jackpot for, uh, Andrew Barry is that Tate, Downs, Love, uh, all three of those players are there at
11:50six.
11:50I don't think all three of them will be there at six, but if all three of them are there
11:54at six, that will make trading down a little easier on Andrew Barry.
11:57If a Cleveland fan's getting a jersey today, what type of jersey are they getting?
12:01Are they getting, this is today.
12:03Okay.
12:03Chase DeLauter.
12:04Okay.
12:05James Harden.
12:07All right.
12:07Any Cleveland Brown?
12:09Uh, I never recommend getting a Cleveland Brown jersey outside of, uh, Miles Garrett and Denzel Ward.
12:15Uh, so, um, ooh.
12:18Ooh, you know what?
12:20I would say chase DeLauter because I, he, he's going to be here longer than James Harden is.
12:26That's all I'm saying.
12:27I think that he's the first one that, that David Blitzer makes a, a big, and I don't know if
12:31it's happening today.
12:32I don't think it's happening today for the love of God.
12:34I got my head chewed off earlier, but yeah, I think that he's probably the first one that, that is
12:39a big investment by David Blitzer.
12:41Yeah.
12:42What the pirates did with their 19 year old shortstop, that contract.
12:45I, I think that's, I don't know if that's really great business sense, um, cause a lot of stuff can
12:50happen over a 10 year period.
12:52Uh, and then also to your, uh, you, I mean, you, you, you're paying more than you actually have to
12:59pay and, you know, chase the water.
13:01It'll be on that, uh, you know, that, that scale.
13:05And, you know, uh, I, I think you wait two years and then you go ahead and try and do
13:12the extension where you're buying out those, uh, arbitration years.
13:15And then one or two years of potential free agency, uh, should Cavs fans be concerned about their lack of
13:24defense hustle attitude over the last, seems like three weeks down the stretch.
13:30Or is this just kind of the feeling out process as we wait for the playoffs?
13:34Well, they've used what 38, 39 different starting lineups this year.
13:38Uh, they're the only team to use that many that has a winning record.
13:43Um, they, uh, they can't get healthy that to me, I'm more concerned about their health, Anthony, than I am,
13:50uh, about, uh, their defensive prowess right now.
13:54Um, I think that they're still trying to figure stuff out.
13:58They're going to go into the playoffs, trying to figure stuff out.
14:01That's, that's not a great position to be in, but, um, they, I'm going to flip it, uh, into a
14:09positive.
14:10I said this yesterday as well.
14:11Hey, at least they've gone through this, right?
14:13They've not been healthy the whole year.
14:15They've had to use all these different, uh, lineup combinations.
14:18They've been through this before.
14:19So maybe that can help them in the playoffs deal with whatever, uh, situations are going to pop up from
14:26a lineup standpoint.
14:27Uh, they do need to, uh, to kind of step things up on, on the defensive side.
14:31Uh, of the floor.
14:32There's no question about that.
14:33Uh, there needs to be some refinement there.
14:36I found it interesting.
14:37Kenny Atkinson, uh, was, um, seemed, uh, I don't know if happy is the right word, but he was complimentary
14:44of, uh, their defensive work in the fourth quarter, especially James Harden.
14:50So, um, it's a concern, but I am way more concerned about, uh, player availability at this point.
14:57Darrell, we thank you very much for the time.
14:59All the very best to you and yours, and we'll talk to you again on Friday.
15:02You bet, guys.
15:02Look forward to it.
