02:26Good evening, Trinidad and Tobago, and to our international audience, this is Beyond The Tape.
02:31I'm your host, Whitney Husbands.
02:33Now, today is Wednesday, so that means it's Legally Speaking Wednesdays.
02:36And as per usual, we have a lot to discuss and a lot to learn.
02:40And to help us on this day, we have my favorite co-hosts, or one of, before people get jealous,
02:45one of my favorite co-hosts on a Wednesday.
02:47We have our attorney at law and also the director of policy and support when it comes to the Ministry
02:54of Homeland Security,
02:55Mr. Zaheer Ali.
02:56Good evening to you, sir.
02:58Well, good evening to you, Whitney.
02:59And Whitney, this afternoon somehow feels very special.
03:03Yeah?
03:04Yeah, it feels very special.
03:05And, you know, if I do so, let me pay my respects first so that I will gather the support
03:12from the citizenry of Trinidad and Tobago,
03:17who I hold very dearly to my heart, or law enforcement agencies who continue to fight, a good fight, in
03:25light of all the challenges,
03:27or family on Beyond The Tape, Jackie and, you know, others behind the scenes, TV6 family,
03:33and persons who may be viewing and listening out of the jurisdiction.
03:38You know, introduce me this afternoon as director of policy and community support.
03:42Yes.
03:42But I want to also indicate to you that in a previous dispensation, I'm also, or I should say, I
03:48also enjoy a background of intelligence.
03:53And I received some intelligence today, and I want to take the opportunity to read the intelligence that I received
03:59today.
03:59I don't know how you will receive this, but I think I need to read this intelligence verbatim and to
04:05read it to the national community.
04:07And perhaps you'll be able to confirm whether this intelligence is correct.
04:12Confirm intelligence, or whether it is propaganda, and whether we need to dismiss it.
04:16So please permit me to read it, and then you will confirm.
04:19So I'm giving you a very...
04:20Can you use it right now?
04:21Okay, all right.
04:21Right, so I'm going to give you a big, big, big responsibility to listen to this intelligence carefully.
04:26And it goes like this to the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
04:32A very happy birthday to someone we deeply appreciate and cannot thank enough for her invaluable contribution to our fight
04:41against crime and criminality.
04:44We extend our sincere gratitude for the vital role you play in bridging the gap between Trinidad and Tobago Police
04:50Service and the public.
04:52Your dedication to being a strong and credible voice for the community while helping to amplify the positive messages of
05:00the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service truly sets you apart.
05:04Your commitment, professionalism, and passion for service make you an exceptional individual, and your contributions continue to strengthen public trust
05:13and engagement in the police service.
05:15On this special day, we celebrate you and wish you continued success, good health, and God's guidance in all that
05:21you do.
05:23Happy birthday from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Corporate Communications Department.
05:27And I want to take this opportunity as well on behalf of the entire citizens of Trinidad and Tobago who
05:32see you on a daily basis during the week.
05:35Jackie and other family members on beyond the TV6 family, the law enforcement agencies, beyond the TTPS, and all those
05:42who may be viewing and listening out to the jurisdiction.
05:44Permit me to give you a hug on this very, very special and beautiful day.
05:49May God continue to bless you with many more happy ones.
05:53I think that, you know, I've read very powerful words, but I don't think that words can really describe you
05:58as an individual.
05:59And, you know, as a woman, you have exemplified, you have led the woman in Trinidad and Tobago.
06:06And, you know, just today would have been evidenced when you entertained the Commissioner of Police as well on another
06:10platform.
06:11So, my lady, I salute you. May God continue to bless you with many more happy ones.
06:15And, you know, continue to do justice to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
06:18I don't know whether you're in a position now to dismiss this intelligence, whether in fact today is in fact
06:23that special day,
06:24or whether it may have been abelated, or whether it's to come.
06:28I'll leave that up to you now.
06:30So, let's hear from you today.
06:31Well, the intelligence that was received while I'm trying to keep it all together and very professional is very much
06:38true.
06:39And I would like to say thank you on behalf of, I'm sure, the TTPS and including yourself, and to
06:48Jackie,
06:50because I know Jackie had something up her sleeve, and I'm an emotional person, and I'm just trying to keep
06:56it together.
06:56But what I will say is that I'm truly humbled by the words that you just spoke and to the
07:03initial,
07:03and I hope that I'm able to continue to provide the service that is needed also to Mrs. Archie as
07:11well.
07:11I appreciate the support that is given and the confidence.
07:15I cannot forget Marlon Hopkinson, along with the Minister of Homeland Security, Mr. Alexander,
07:23because when I started, they saw something in me, and I was just a person filling in, in big shoes,
07:31in a big pond, a huge pond, and it wasn't easy.
07:36And the way in which the citizens accepted me, and I was still able to stand in my truth, in
07:42my own, it means a lot.
07:45I am truly, truly humble, and it just goes to show that the work that I'm putting out is one
07:51that you'll appreciate,
07:52and I hope I can continue to do so moving forward.
07:55But this, I wasn't expecting. It threw me off completely.
07:59Usually I'm the one to three off a little bit, but it threw me off here this evening.
08:02Jackie, thank you so much to Lester and Neil, the entire team.
08:06Thank you so much to the TV6 management. Thank you.
08:09We weren't supposed to start the show in this emotional state, but I'll keep it together.
08:13I'll keep it as professional as possible, but thank you.
08:16Well, you know, Whitney, I'll tell you that, you know, having been around many psychologists in recent times and social
08:22workers,
08:23what they have advised is that let the emotions flow.
08:26So if you have to let the tears of joy flow, I'm right here.
08:30I'll just collect them so they won't fall to the ground, and I'll give it back to you.
08:33But, you know, you have been splendid, and the persons that you have called upon in terms of recognizing your
08:38ability,
08:39you know, to be able to deliver on this particular program, I want to also endorse it.
08:43So as I said before, may God continue to bless you and many more, and also your family,
08:49because, you know, your parents, your siblings, your entire family, I'm sure this is a proud moment.
08:56I'm sure they probably will surprise you later on this afternoon as well.
08:59If you need help to open those presents, feel free to call me.
09:02I'm standing by.
09:03So to Trinidad and Tobago, we can't hear you, all right, in terms of whether you're going to give a
09:08lusty round of applause
09:09or whether you're going to say happy birthday.
09:12I'm sure in a short while when the lines are open, you'll have the opportunity to say happy birthday to
09:16Whitney.
09:16So, Whitney, cheers.
09:18Cheers, yes.
09:20May God bless you.
09:21Yes.
09:22So, I mean, as we see, we put back on the hat.
09:25Yes.
09:26And I'm not flowing any tears because we have to remain strong with what we are doing here as we
09:29move forward,
09:30and that is the most important thing.
09:31Certainly.
09:32And we are seeing that with changes and updates that are taking place,
09:37and a major update that came to us, and of course to the nation as well, earlier this morning,
09:41very early this morning, where the TTPS gave an update where the commissioner made it very clear
09:49no one above the law, municipal police, to be charged with murder and firearm offenses.
09:56Now, a 28-year-old municipal police officer is expected to be charged today for the murder of No. 8072
10:04Corporal Anushka Eversley,
10:06which occurred on Sunday, 19th April, 2026, at the San Fernando Municipal Police Station, Kings Wharf, San Fernando.
10:14Now, charges of robbery with violence, trafficking of firearms, and possession of ammunition
10:18are also expected to be laid against the officer, following advice received from the Director of Public Prosecution
10:25on Tuesday, the 21st of April, 2026.
10:29Now, commenting on the investigation, we heard from the Commissioner Guevara, where he stated, and I quote,
10:35the swift and meticulous work of their investigators reflect the standard of professionalism
10:42the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service demands to itself.
10:47Their decisive action brings us closer to justice for the family and colleagues of acting corporal of Police Eversley.
10:56And for a nation traumatized by this deeply troubling act of betrayal,
11:00the lure of greed and quick money could never justify the portrayal of public trust.
11:07Whether you serve as estate police, transit police, municipal police, special reserve police, or regular police,
11:14our oath binds us to a higher duty.
11:16For those who choose corruption and criminality,
11:19we will leave no stone unturned to remove you from among the officers who risk their lives daily to protect
11:27our citizens
11:27and place you instead among those who enjoy state-provided accommodations
11:33with reinforced burglar-proofing and 24-hour security.
11:39The TTPS remains resolute in defining, or defending, that is, the integrity of the badge.
11:46Well, Whitney, you took that word from my mouth in terms of,
11:52I was not going to indicate to the Commissioner of Police,
11:54the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and support agencies,
11:58a brilliant and an appropriate response in terms of the stage that we are,
12:04in terms of where directions have been given to charge someone for that heinous crime
12:09that would have occurred in the Southern Division.
12:11And to the Commissioner's word, by that media release, very strong focus, very strong direction.
12:17And I'm happy that he, and I want to, you know, magnify or expound on the area in terms of
12:21we are not prepared.
12:23And I'm saying that with the previous hat that I wear,
12:27and in terms of being under the Ministry of Homeland Security,
12:29that the citizens of this country require persons who are honest and sincere in executing the public functions.
12:36And if we have persons among us, especially where you're on oath to protect and serve the people of Trinidad
12:42and Tobago,
12:43and you are using that power and that authority to commit crime and criminality,
12:47I also want to join with the Police Commissioner to stamp on that once and for all.
12:51So I think appropriate words, strong response.
12:54And all I'll say to the Commissioner respectfully,
12:56that this particular matter, because of the public interest,
13:00it's a matter that, you know, you don't see every day.
13:02I will strongly and humbly advise him to ensure that there's a dedicated task force
13:08to monitor this progress of this matter now in terms of where the court is concerned
13:12to ensure that we do not have a slip-up when it comes to the proceedings.
13:16And I hope that there's some expeditious proceedings so that justice will not be delayed in relation to this matter.
13:22But salute the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and all supporting agencies for a good piece of work thus far.
13:28Now, Mr. Ali, with this incident and other incidents that we see take place,
13:33and persons are clearly disseminating information that are not factual
13:37and they're going based on hearsay, they say, them say,
13:40and not even getting strong sources that could back what they're putting out there,
13:46what would you say to individuals?
13:47Because we're getting so many stories from so many incidents that take place.
13:51Brilliant question.
13:52A brilliant question.
13:54And what I will say legally to Trinidad and Tobago,
13:57I want to say to you all that if we are very concerned on which we should be about the
14:02administration of justice,
14:04now that we are hearing that a criminal charge is going to be laid,
14:07if it hasn't already been laid, where this matter now becomes subjudice-y,
14:12let us exercise responsible expressions,
14:16and I even go as far as to say responsible journalism to ensure that we do not prejudice or run
14:22afoul of the proper administration of justice.
14:26That's one.
14:26And number two, from a criminal context,
14:29there's an offense of tipping off in the law books of Trinidad and Tobago.
14:32And if tipping off simply means disclosing information that may prejudice or likely to prejudice an ongoing investigation,
14:42so while a person may have been charged,
14:44the investigation is continuing because there may be other persons who may be responsible.
14:48Be very careful that you are not expressing or exercising your freedom of expression
14:53or exercising a freedom of the press.
14:55Yes, and in the process, you are learning into tipping off where you are going to prejudice a criminal investigation
15:01and frustrate the ends of justice.
15:04So, take this in good stead.
15:06Yes, we know that we might be interested to give an expression,
15:10you know, to have a story done,
15:12but please exercise due diligence, responsible journalism,
15:15to ensure that we do not impact negatively this matter,
15:19which I am certain even people out of the jurisdiction of Trinidad and Tobago are looking in to see
15:24as wanting to arrest and charge.
15:27But we must be able to ensure that this runs the full length and breadth,
15:31where we see a conviction and perhaps, perhaps,
15:34the first exercise of the death penalty in Trinidad and Tobago.
15:38Yes, well said.
15:39Right now, let's take a look at what's making our SOE update.
15:42Today, the 22nd of April, 2026.
15:46Number of operations, 4,122.
15:50Number of target priority offenders, 1,388.
15:54Searches conducted, 2,377.
15:58Traffic operations, 2,320.
16:02Total persons arrested, 1,775.
16:06Total persons charged, 417.
16:10Firearms recovered, we're seeing a total of 129.
16:14Ammunition recovered with a total of 2,949.
16:19And dangerous drug sees, we're seeing an increase with cocaine at this time.
16:23Mr. Ali?
16:23Well, thank you very much again, Whitney, for reading these statistics.
16:26And, you know, I always salute the law enforcement efforts on my extension,
16:28the partnership with the citizenry of Trinidad and Tobago with reference to this.
16:31And I will continue to do that every time you read these statistics.
16:33Just to go back to the matter that I referred to,
16:37when I made reference to the first, in reference to using the death penalty,
16:42I'm not talking first and it's first because we had execution before,
16:45but in a long time we haven't exercised,
16:47so I should be more circumspect by indicating a resumption of the death penalty
16:52with this particular matter.
16:54That's correct.
16:54Yeah?
16:55Right now, let's take a look at what's making today's headlines.
17:38And those were your stories making today's headlines.
17:40Remember, you can give us a call at 623-1711, extension 1996 and 1997.
17:46We'll take that short break.
17:47We'll be back.

19:16Some of us like to test limits.
19:19But there won't always be second chances.
19:23Obey the speed limits.
19:25Maybe you don't value your life, but others value theirs.
19:35A message from the TTPS.
19:54Welcome back to Legally Speaking Wednesdays,
19:56of course, our tenured law and director as well.
19:58Now, Mr. Ali, I understand you had a great day.
20:01Excellent day today.
20:02Amazing day.
20:03And when I hear young people and greatness combine,
20:08what we could ask for?
20:11And what better day to do it?
20:12On the 22nd of April, a day that, you know,
20:15a good servant of the soil celebrates her birthday.
20:18I think so that magnifies the importance of the day.
20:22You know, I will also acknowledge the Honorable Prime Minister as well.
20:24She's also celebrating her birthday today as well.
20:27Kamala Basabi says so, today's her birthday.
20:29Well, let me take this opportunity and bless you where I sit.
20:32To the Honorable Prime Minister, if you're listening to me.
20:34My lady, I want to take this opportunity on behalf of all the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
20:39All our visitors, all of the people who are listening and hearing this program.
20:44And, of course, to our birthday girl, Whitney, we want to join in wishing you a happy birthday.
20:49May God continue to bless you with good health, strength, and wisdom as you continue to lead Trinidad and Tobago
20:56in very challenging times.
20:58We want to wish you a happy birthday.
20:59May God bless you and your entire family.
21:01Yeah.
21:01Happy birthday to the PM, of course.
21:03Yes.
21:03So, as we mentioned, young people.
21:05You went to El Dorado West.
21:08And what transpired there?
21:09Seems like you had a lot of activities.
21:11Well, a lot, Whitney.
21:12And, Whitney, let me begin by saying, and I'm very humble and emotional at the same time.
21:16You would have been one who, on this particular platform, would have heard about the National Symposium on Vulnerable Youths.
21:23Yes.
21:23You would have heard about the execution of the National Parenting Seminar recently.
21:27And you would have heard about the preventative steps on measures that the Ministry of Homeland Security, led by the
21:33Honorable Minister of Homeland Security, Mr. Roger D. Alexander, who you spoke about a short while ago.
21:37The Permanent Secretary and other technocrats in that ministry.
21:40And, by exception, the Policy and Community Support Office, with strong support from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of
21:46Social Development, Children's Authority, the TTPS, Prison Service, the Psychologist Association,
21:52the Social Workers, Sporting Icons, none, and state actors.
21:59Yes.
21:59Very, very wide cross-section.
22:01And today was another step again with the salient calls to be able to engage our nation's youths, whether it
22:08be on a community level, whether it be on a school level.
22:10And I'm happy to indicate that today we launched a special psychosocial intervention and educational engagement at the El Dorado
22:21Secondary School West,
22:23where we had the former West Indies woman's captain, Marissa Aguilera.
22:27We had Corporal Derek Shabody.
22:30We had a prison officer and an inmate who would have been charged and convicted and was serving a time
22:39and basically in a form of rehabilitation,
22:41telling her story and, you know, sharing different life stories in a different context from sport, law enforcement, and otherwise,
22:47to really encourage and inspire our young people at the engagement today.
22:54What was very special, Whitney, and you spoke about it, there was a forum that we asked these children to
22:59engage the professionals.
23:00Yes.
23:01And the questions that came to us were very piercing questions, questions that we saw that the children are very
23:10interested to be able to have dialogue with different professionals.
23:13As a matter of fact, I had to ask the principal and the executive of that particular school to have
23:19some of the questions reduced in writing,
23:21so that it can be provided to us to be able to respond, because they were very active.
23:25And here you see the Honorable Minister actually coming down to the level.
23:28I don't know who is this guy here.
23:29Okay.
23:30Yeah, I don't know.
23:31You might be able to know who is this guy standing here.
23:32I don't know if you recognize that guy.
23:34Jackie, could you go back?
23:35Yeah.
23:35He looks very familiar.
23:36Yeah, I don't know if you would know that guy there.
23:38Oh, he looks like a gentleman.
23:40I don't know, Mr. Ali.
23:41Yeah, I don't know whether he's a director giving directions there or pointing in a particular direction,
23:45but it was a very humbling moment, and may I say to Trinidad and Tobago and especially our nation's schools,
23:52the Honorable Minister have indicated to me that he intends, or I should say we intend, to roll this out
23:57to as many schools as possible,
23:58so we will be reaching out to various schools to find out what are the requirements, what are the needs,
24:02what sort of intervention that you're requiring at your particular location.
24:06But all in all, I salute all the stakeholders.
24:08An excellent job.
24:09An excellent job, and it was done in quick time, Whitney.
24:11We didn't have the luxury of time to plan this, but what we saw today was a learning experience for
24:16us.
24:17So we are, as a matter of fact, when we came back to the debrief exercise,
24:20we already identified where we need to build, where we need to improve, and to the citizenry,
24:24our parents, our citizens, feel free to make your contribution as to how you think that we can go forward
24:30because my intention is to bring people like yourself, media personalities, corporate Trinidad and Tobago,
24:36even parents who have special stories, even students, past students from schools who may have excelled,
24:42to be able to tell their story because, Whitney, we can only get out of the situation if each one
24:48teach each one.
24:49Of course.
24:50That is where it's come down to.
24:51So it's no longer one person having the solution, but a society having a solution,
24:57and we hope to continue to go along these preventative measures.
25:02If we can seize this generation now, perhaps we have a good prospect.
25:08That is what we try to do.
25:09That's a good prospect.
25:11Correct.
25:11And that is where we look into seize, and perhaps the TTPS and other law enforcement agencies
25:15can deal with the hard crime of those who are bent on not looking to conform with the rule of
25:20law.
25:20So, again, I think it's a fulfilling experience, and, again, I want to salute all the stakeholders
25:25for their response, the Ministry of Education in particular,
25:28for opening their doors to the Ministry of Homeland Security.
25:30And I think that's the sort of partnership that we require as we go forward in Trinidad and Tobago.
25:36So thank you very much, Jackie.
25:37Thank you very much, Whitney.
25:38I'm really happy to see our DCP Benjamin there as well.
25:41I missed him, sorry.
25:42Yes, yes, yes.
25:42And to Deputy Commissioner Benjamin, I must indicate him and point him out this afternoon
25:45that there's no time that I reach out to him in my capacity as director,
25:49and there's not a positive response.
25:51So, Mr. Deputy Commissioner Benjamin, I want to salute you this afternoon.
25:54You see he's very much focused.
25:55Yes, and he always shows up when he's called to, and he doesn't hesitate.
26:00That's right.
26:00That is what I love to see.
26:01His presence is always felt.
26:02That's right.
26:03And, you know, he closes the proceedings, you know, with a word of prayer
26:06to be able to guide the students and by extension the teachers.
26:10And to the principal and staff of the El Dorado Secondary School,
26:13I want to also salute you and keep up the good work.
26:15And let us continue to build on this engagement and the success that you would have been enjoying,
26:21you know, with your administration and your leadership as well.
26:23So, thank you very much to everyone.
26:25Now, remember, you all could give us a call at 623-1711,
26:29extension 1996 and 1997.
26:31You have a caller.
26:32Caller, good evening.
26:34Hello?
26:36Hello, good evening.
26:37Hi, good evening, sir.
26:38Good evening.
26:39Yes, good evening.
26:40Thank you for taking my call.
26:45I'm very inspired, and I mean, here watching the program, the work you all did today,
26:52with that group going down to the young people here at the West School, you know.
26:57It really sent me back thinking, and we need more like what you all did today.
27:04We need plenty more going on left, right, and center, north, south, east, and west,
27:08of Toronto, but we need to save this generation of spirits.
27:12I want to just piggyback on your preamble, your tour leader,
27:17on the incident, what you say, spirits, just so that don't say anything.
27:22But I just want to recommend, as a former member of the defense,
27:26I want to make a recommendation, that that incident that took place here,
27:30they need to maybe look at having a forensic, a forensic investigation
27:36on a check of all the arms and ammunition, all the corporations,
27:40all the municipal control corporations, right,
27:43because something like this should have never taken place.
27:47It's an embarrassment to the law enforcement,
27:50and I'm saying that we must never like something like this happen.
27:55We have a very criminal element, because we have a chain,
27:58and use we all to defeat us.
28:00This is a shameful occurrence here.
28:03And I am feeling one of the things that must happen.
28:07We must just say isolate this one.
28:09Go all length of width, where they have municipal police,
28:14and have absolute arms and ammunition checks,
28:16and have some forensic checks to let us know what is going on,
28:21and put more systems in place to prevent these criminals,
28:25these animals from coming in, and causing this distress.
28:30This is a very distressful situation, right?
28:32But I want to say condolences to that family who lost their sibling there.
28:40It's very hurtful, and I'm saying again in closing,
28:43something like this officer must never take place again.
28:48Never take place.
28:49And it's very hurtful.
28:51Thank you so much, sir.
28:53Pass on.
28:54Thank you very much, Kola.
28:55Kola, I want to, let me begin, I was going to begin with the positives that you advanced,
28:59but I think that with that pain that I feel in your voice, I'll deal with that first.
29:03And as a citizen of this country, I share your pain as well.
29:07You know, they say those who in the kitchen will feel the heat.
29:10Correct.
29:10And only God knows how that family is responding to this particular situation.
29:14And, you know, based on, we can say no based on the evidence.
29:18You'll see that the evidence suggests that, you know, the law enforcement officers, you know, are involved,
29:24or I should say is involved at this stage, you know, based on the findings.
29:27So I feel your pain, and I think you have spoken succinctly with reference to the decision makers
29:32in terms of what should be a futuristic action in terms of looking at an audit, forensic audit that you
29:37have spoken about.
29:38I will support that.
29:39I will endorse it because things like this should naturally trigger accountability and transparency.
29:43So I want to share that with you.
29:44And, you know, just going back to your endorsement, I want to say to you all that many of you
29:50all have heard on this platform.
29:51I've been here for some time.
29:53And I've heard to the length and breadth of Trinidad and Tobago and the callers, you all have called,
29:56for coming closer, moving that distance with our nation youth.
30:00And who is better to engage our nation youth?
30:03We need to fill that space.
30:04The criminal gangs and gang-related, and the gang members, they are filling that gap that we have left.
30:09And if we do not fill that gap with the professionals that you would have seen or observed a short
30:14while ago,
30:15and others, then we are leaving space for our nation youth to be influenced.
30:20Let them be influenced by us into positivity.
30:23When you say a society raises a child, let the society be the good society raising the child and not
30:29the criminal gangs and gang-related activities.
30:31And finally, I know you made mention, you referred to my strong caution or my strong direction in terms of
30:37speaking about the matter.
30:38You can't speak about the matter.
30:40So I'm not depriving you of a freedom of expression or a freedom of the press.
30:44All I'm saying is that if you are commenting, ensure that you are responsible so that you do not frustrate
30:49the ends of justice,
30:50or you do not lead to a prejudice of the ongoing inquiry.
30:53So it's just about being responsible.
30:54But, you know, I'm not taking away your freedom of expression.
30:57But thank you very much, Kola, for your passion, your pain, and your submissions.
31:01All right, we take that short break.
31:03We'll be back.
31:04We'll be back.

33:28Welcome back to Beyond the Tape. Of course, we have Mr. Ali here with us.
33:32And we have an update because we continue to let the public know how hard the TTPS is working out.
33:37They continue to work hard.
33:38And in this update, investigation into the attempted disposal of bodies at the Komoto Cemetery that was trending over the
33:44weekend and prisons were seeking answers.
33:46Now, the TTPS is letting the public know where they provide information following the update regarding the ongoing investigation into
33:53the attempted disposal of these bodies at the Komoto Cemetery.
33:56At this time, one individual remains in police custody assisting investigators.
34:01No charges have been laid as inquiries are ongoing.
34:05On April 22, 2026, investigators executed several search warrants at multiple locations as part of the continuing investigation.
34:14A number of persons of interest have since been identified and arrangements are being made to conduct further interviews.
34:22These include individuals who may be able to assist investigators, including representatives of the Sangha Grandi Regional Corporation.
34:29The TTPS assures the public that this matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness and sensitivity.
34:37Investigations remain active and every effort is being made to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.
34:44Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
34:48So, the TTPS is making sure that we are updated step by step as best as they can legally.
34:53Ms. Ali.
34:53Yeah, most certainly.
34:54And, you know, this story, too, would have, you know, hit Trinidad and Tobago.
34:59And I'm happy to see that the police service is making some deliberate steps, you know, to be able to,
35:04you know, clean up this heinous act as well.
35:07And, you know, perhaps coming out of it to see whether, in fact, there's a need for immediate law reform
35:11to be able to treat with some of these matters.
35:13But, again, very sensitive matters.
35:14And, you know, I salute the police service for the progress with reference to dealing with these issues.
35:18We are back to the phone nights.
35:19We have a call on the line.
35:20Caller, good evening.
35:22Hello, really?
35:23Good evening, sir.
35:25Let's make a contribution.
35:26I'd like to remind, Sergeant Ali, this reminds me of 1990 coup.
35:34Yes, go ahead.
35:37Yeah, I think that they need to do some extreme investigation and get some fast information for the public.
35:45All right.
35:46Thank you, Mr. Ali.
35:48Well, I know.
35:49He did give information today.
35:50Yeah, no, his communication may have been broken up.
35:52But I think that this, I think he made reference to this, you know, you know, he made mention of
35:58the 1990 coup in terms of what he's seeing down there with the firearms that was, you know, stolen.
36:03You know, everyone will have their perspective.
36:05You know, everyone will have their perspective.
36:06You know, I respect his opinion.
36:08And I want to take his position to advance it to the various national intelligence agencies to ensure that if
36:15persons in the wider public is having this feeling or this position that is important for us to stay on
36:23top of the intelligence to ensure that is not something that resembles something in 1990.
36:28We do not want an occurrence of that, and I'm happy to see that we are already making breakthrough in
36:33terms of the retrieval of some of the firearms, and I hope that that retrieval continues.
36:37And this is where the citizenry also, you know, has a part to play with our friends to bringing forward
36:42intelligence and information to ensure that every single firearm that was taken, it is retrieved, to ensure that the public
36:50safety and security is promoted.
36:52But, you know, Kuala, I respect your position as well, and Whitney, sir, you know, we cannot dismiss it because
36:56we can only call on the intelligence agencies to be switched on when we are seen act like this.
37:04You know, there is something that I've learned early in my law enforcement career, and I want to share it
37:08to Trinidad and Tomiego.
37:09You can apply it to anything that you're dealing with.
37:11There's the ABC rule.
37:13Assume nothing, believe nothing, and challenge everything, and I think that is where the Kuala is going, asking us to
37:19challenge the situation to ensure that is not something that, you know, that we may have seen from a historic
37:25context.
37:26Now, to add context to that to the Kuala, quickly, because you speak of intelligence and updates.
37:31I know we have a call on the line.
37:32One second.
37:32I just want to make this very clear so the persons who missed it will understand.
37:36So, if you missed it, the police have detained 10 people, ages 16 to 73, in their ongoing investigation into
37:43the murder of Municipal Police, Police Corporal Anushka Eversley, and the theft of firearms and ammunition.
37:49And today, which was this morning, a 28-year-old Municipal Police officer is expected to be charged today for
37:56the murder of Eversley.
37:58So, that is the update.
37:59So, in case you missed it, we just add in some context to show that the TTPS is updating the
38:04public as they go along.
38:05We have the Kuala, Kuala.
38:06Good evening.
38:07Sorry about that.
38:08Yes, good evening.
38:10Good evening.
38:10Good evening to you, sir.
38:11Yes.
38:12As you identified this incident to the corporate, I want to make a suggestion to the director of policy, because
38:23I think policy is key.
38:25Right?
38:26I wanted to judge that to use this particular incident as a case study.
38:30Yes, we still have to judge that there are connection between and other personalities, right, and substance abuse and alcoholism.
38:42That is the search, and all criminal justice system agencies need to have a policy in terms of testing, right,
38:51official, right, for substance abuse and alcoholism.
38:55Because once you have to put up to this narrative disorder, it can be sociopathic or psychopathic, you have a
39:03tendency to be also using drugs.
39:07And once that drives, there are what I call the social irrational behavior, right, and I think this can be
39:18a tendency to develop some policy in terms of testing, because it has some connection between crime, substance abuse and
39:25personality disorder to require that harm.
39:28We do a lot more testing, right, and we do a lot more testing, right, for personality disorder in our
39:33criminal justice system, official, right.
39:36I don't know if, um, this might be out of the list of, um, of, um, the director here, but
39:42I think that policy must be done.
39:44We've turned up as testing and then testing for drugs.
39:48And also have a psychologist with some testing for drugs, who, by, instead of physical abuse and disorder.
39:55It's crucial in modern new directions and criminal justice system.
40:00I listen to you again.
40:01All right.
40:01Thank you so much, Kola.
40:03Thank you very much, Kola.
40:05Kola, you excite me.
40:06You excite me with your, your thinking.
40:08And let me give you the assurance that even, perhaps, if, where I sit as director, that that wasn't my
40:15domain, I'm known for a person who is not afraid to engage in necessary ministry, whether it be the Ministry
40:21of Health, whether it be from an environmental context, whether it be from a psychological context, I'm not afraid to
40:26engage these entities to have discussions to be able to promote that position that you're speaking about.
40:31And you are right.
40:33This psychosocial engagement that we are speaking about, we are also anticipating that you are going to find children who
40:39may be already exposed to a dangerous drug or may have already been abusing alcohol so that you already have
40:45that impact in terms of with their social context, their psychological context, and in some cases, from a health context.
40:53Yeah.
40:53So I think that you're on point.
40:54And, you know, this is the level of thinking that we need in Trinidad and Tobago when we are looking
40:58at crime and criminality.
40:59We need to be asking ourselves, what makes someone form a mens re, and mens re meaning the intention to
41:04commit a crime.
41:05Is it a clear thought process or is it disturbed with things that are happening?
41:09And we can look at it both from a substance abuse context or being exposed to a dangerous drug, and
41:16we can also look at circumstances where there may be what?
41:18There may be domestic violence.
41:20There may be matrimonial proceedings.
41:21Drug use.
41:22There may be other physical matters that are occurring, economic issues, poverty issues, many different things that can be causing
41:29it.
41:29The important thing is for us to identify it and ensure that there's a proper response.
41:33But, Kola, you excite me.
41:34I will ask you to call and leave your number with Jackie because this is the kind of discussion that
41:41I want to have with members of the citizenry because you all are ripe.
41:45You all have the resolution in your hands.
41:48We may be sitting in position where we can make the decision.
41:50We can get it into the cabinet and get it into the parliament.
41:52But you are also part of the lawmaking process, and I've said this many times, Whitney, that if there's an
41:57injustice or there's an ill in society, we have three options, and I like to repeat it so that it
42:04becomes part of us.
42:06If we can fix it with our hands, Whitney, fix it with your hands.
42:09For example, this phone shouldn't be here, and we can fix it, so let's put the phone where it's supposed
42:14to be.
42:15If the phone is here and we cannot fix it because you feel, okay, that property doesn't belong to you,
42:20you say, Zaheer, can you just put this phone where the phone belongs so you can speak out on it?
42:24And if you cannot fix it with your hand, you cannot speak up on it, then hate it with your
42:29hand where you don't even be present in a situation where this phone is exposed in the way that it's
42:34exposed.
42:35So you have three options.
42:36So the citizenry, you are an active part of the lawmaking process.
42:39You are part of the democracy, and I'm certain that other decision makers will want to hear from you.
42:44As a matter of fact, some of the things that we have seen unfolding at a high governmental level is
42:50things that you would have called for a couple months ago, and you have seen it coming to fruition.
42:55So continue to knock on the door for the prosperity of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.

46:00It's Legally Speaking Wednesdays.
46:01We head back to the phone lines.
46:03We have a caller on the line as we speak.
46:04Caller, good evening.
46:06Good evening, Whitney.
46:08Happy birthday.
46:10Listen to you, Mr. Ali.
46:12Good evening to you.
46:13Happy birthday, you wish to you.
46:14Oh, I didn't hear that part.
46:15Thank you so much, sir.
46:16Greatly appreciated.
46:17Tonight you should wear black.
46:19Okay, Mr. Ali.
46:20Yes.
46:21You know, I'm getting fed up now, boys.
46:23With stupid people in this country doing real ridiculous things.
46:27Buying people on the back row and passing big money.
46:30And you have a station right here because you go and do all the transactions.
46:33You meet people in the back, in the back, all midnight and paying money to power vehicles.
46:38And you know where you're going.
46:39You don't know where to do for you.
46:41I feel sorry for this class.
46:44Now, Mr. Ali, the other thing is these scammers.
46:47Now, there are a lot of scammers with Forex and Bitcoin trying to recover its funds.
46:53And they are not doing you any good.
46:56They are culprits.
46:58They are scammers.
47:00They are spiny scammers.
47:02And this is possible amount of money.
47:04And this thing is continuing.
47:05And it's going to be another one people.
47:07And every day, more and more people, these scammers, the Bitcoin thing, ripping out people.
47:11And one more point I want to make tonight is that I want to applaud the Cripe Stoppers for going
47:19beyond the call to you.
47:21For getting the dollars already to get people to comment for information.
47:27Because we know if people don't pay, people will come forward with information.
47:32I was wondering why I happen to know that they paid $100,000, they put another $100,000 to get
47:41the killers of the WPC.
47:44But we have at the same time we have a seven-year-old child got killed.
47:48And they didn't throw nothing for that child.
47:50Like, more information, I think that is unfair because looking at this, there's a one way should we go, you
47:56know.
47:56And I would like to see more money being paid to get information by the TTVS.
48:04Thanks a lot, sir.
48:05You're doing well.
48:05Fine, Jill.
48:06Thank you so much, Kola.
48:08Mr. Ali, I mean, you spoke about a lot of things.
48:10Thank you very much, Kola.
48:11Kola, there are not many times that I am reserved with a position from the citizenry of Trinidad and Tobago.
48:22And, you know, I normally have a response or an alternative.
48:26You see that last issue that you raised in terms of the reward?
48:28I think it's a very sensitive matter.
48:30And, you know, I will not comment further, but I will endeavor to have some discussions with other high officers
48:37in relation to the consideration by virtue of the issues that you raised.
48:43I think it's a very live issue, and I'll advance it at a different level.
48:46But, you know, in relation to the issue of the fraudulent activities, you know, and I want to press the
48:53TTVS a little bit this afternoon.
48:55You know, I know that a lot has been done with me, but you see where the white-collar aspect
48:59is concerned?
49:00I want to, you know, press the commissioner and the executive of the police service to probably pay a deeper
49:06focus with reference to, I should say, equal focus to the white-collar aspect of things.
49:11And I think that one of the reasons why you may see in this reoccurring fraudulent behavior with this common
49:17is perhaps a person may believe that, okay, there's no consequence or no timely consequence to flow from these activities
49:25so they feel strong.
49:25So I want to press the TTVS this afternoon, humbly and respectfully, to equally direct focus to raising the intensity
49:33of white-collar investigations in Trinidad and Tobago.
49:36I know that that is an area that has also been a sore point, and I may even go as
49:40far to even call any legislators to look at the development of our white-collar law regime, you know, to
49:47be able to deal with these persons who are benefiting from crime.
49:50And swiftly.
49:50I agree.
49:51So thank you very much for raising that issue, and I just decided to, you know, offer, you know, a
49:55perspective with reference to, a response to dealing with persons who are involved in this calming business.
50:00Yes. We have another call. Caller, good evening.
50:05Good afternoon.
50:06Hi, good evening.
50:07Good afternoon, ma'am.
50:09Yeah, I am. I'd like to make a comment on this, yeah, beyond the T.
50:16Yes, go ahead. You're live, ma'am.
50:19Yeah, okay.
50:21Someone called in and said about bringing back the hangman.
50:25I find that it's too much an easy death for that police fellow.
50:29They should bring back the cat and I'll tell.
50:34Bring back the cat and I'll tell.
50:36Give him 75 years and 75 lashes with the cat and I'll tell.
50:41See if you keep making that police went through a torturous death.
50:46But he should get up to a torturous death. Thank you.
50:49Yeah.
50:50Along with the people who killed the nine-year-old girl, too.
50:52Well, you know, Koloff, you know, you again, you have, you know, participated in a degree of punishment on a
50:59conviction that should be handed out to the accused in this matter.
51:03And, you know, while it's subjudice and we don't want to prejudice the matter, you know, the fact that she
51:07has spoken like that, Whitney, it means that you are feeling that the true essence where crime, and I said
51:14this on this platform, crime or that particular crime was not against that individual who lost her life.
51:20Yes.
51:21This caller have just explained or just exemplified that a crime is considered against every citizen in Trinidad and Tobago.
51:30Of course.
51:30And she has expressed herself in that context.
51:33And, you know, let's see how the matter unfolds before the courts of Trinidad and Tobago.
51:36Let's ensure that all the evidence enters the court domain in a timely manner.
51:40Let's ensure that the matter is prosecuted properly.
51:42Let's ensure that if there's a jury that has to be in panel, that it is, you know, we are
51:49looking forward to playing that particular role in our criminal justice system to really make that strong statement that you
51:54seem and others want to see come out of this particular matter.
51:57But as you said, you may see history that it could lead to that.
52:00You just never know.
52:01Yes.
52:01We have another caller.
52:02Caller, good evening.
52:03Hello, good evening.
52:04Happy birthday.
52:05Thank you, ma'am.
52:06Thank you, ma'am.
52:06Most richest blessings to you.
52:09Yes.
52:10Officer Ali.
52:11Yes, ma'am.
52:12I want to say that, you know, we have criminals in uniform.
52:17Well, let me look at what took place and it's really, really, really so sad.
52:21Because I know sometimes what happens when somebody, you have gone outside, sometimes they tell you that it came from
52:29some police station or whatever and they don't really go into it.
52:33They don't really look at it.
52:34But I love what happened in such a short time with this commissioner of police.
52:39And then he, I agree he didn't get all the cancers yet, but I know that he will get it.
52:44And somebody is affected because we have people, criminals, ordinary criminals, criminals in uniform, criminals in force, in the form
52:52of all sorts of things.
52:53We really have to do something fast.
52:55And I'm thankful for what has happened in the sense that they move fast and they get some guns, they
53:02get some ammunition, whatever.
53:03But I warn them that we haven't got new judges and I hope that will help, that it will take
53:09a shorter time to do what it is and get rid of these people very fast.
53:14All the best, all of you. Be safe, all of you. Thank you very much.
53:17Thank you so much, Mr. Ali.
53:19Thank you very much, caller. And again, another caller, Whitney.
53:21You know, seeing the disgust with reference to when law enforcement, you know, step out and run afoul of the
53:27law.
53:27You know, someone who should be ensuring that they hold the rule of law strictly.
53:32You know, perhaps this is probably an area as well, when you're talking about, you know, public officials, and by
53:38extension, any profession.
53:39If you leave someone sometime in an area for too long, sometimes, and there's no rotation, that's when you leave
53:45things to manifest itself.
53:47And, you know, you want to exercise some proper judgment there.
53:49And then secondly, you know, we have heard about the Professional Standards Bureau looking at the TTPS.
53:54But sometime I go ahead and mention, I want to make a solid call for the decision makers who are
53:58listening.
53:58Perhaps the time has come for a unit that has a wider mandate to not only look at TTPS and
54:06the Professional Standards of Police Officers,
54:07but Professional Standards of all public officers who have placed their hand up, whether you're in a Ministry of Education,
54:14a Ministry of Health,
54:15whether you're in a municipal context, but you're doing a public function for the benefit of people of Trinidad and
54:20Tobago,
54:21and that should be a sacred function.
54:22So perhaps there should be a unit that is set up, properly outfitted, to be able to exercise due diligence
54:29on what's happening,
54:30especially for my public sector concepts.
54:32Do we have a final caller on the line?
54:34Caller, good evening.
54:36God is blessing you now.
54:40God is blessing you now.
54:43God is blessing you, blessing with me.
54:47God is blessing you, blessing you, blessing you, blessing you, blessing you, blessing you, blessing you, blessing you, blessing you,
54:50blessing you.
54:52Now let me go first to my friend, Sally.
54:57So Sally?
54:58Good afternoon, sir.
55:00In 1996, I was part of America, and I got my first FUEP around that time.
55:09What I want to find out, in the corporation, is the FUL assigned to an office or is it
55:25just general?
55:27We never had this situation before.
55:37I really would like to know because when I see the administrative brief action, it runs
55:45my mind back to 1996.
55:49Could you give me some clarity on that, please?
55:52I would listen up first.
55:54Thank you, Colin.
55:55Well, Colin, I would love to give you some clarity on that.
55:57But perhaps in your discourse, you have also given me an opportunity to take a reserve
56:02position as well.
56:03An officer has been sent on administrative leave, and that question that you asked in
56:07terms of who the FUL have been issued to, you know, there's a practice in relation to
56:13sometimes it may be issued to the permanent secretary in a particular ministry.
56:16Sometimes it may be issued directly to the assistant commissioner who is in charge of
56:20that particular municipal police service.
56:24But at this time, I cannot confirm in terms of what is the arrangement.
56:29So I have to reserve further comments.
56:30But I understand where you are going.
56:32But let's see how the investigation unfolds.
56:34And let's allow the chips to fall where they have or as the case may be.
56:41Yes.
56:41Mr. Ali, we'd like to thank you so much for being here with us.
56:43Well, thank you to share this moment with you.
56:45And I'm also sending greetings from a family member of yours that I was able to interact
56:48with.
56:48Yes.
56:49And they currently from the Great Sanctuary.
56:51Yes.
56:51Nanon Stores.
56:52They were excellent.
56:53And to Mr. Ali, who was there, much love to you.
56:57We get ready for our news coming up next at 7 TNT.
