00:14The melodic songs of the National Instrument of Trinidad and Tobago being played by Old Tech Steel Orchestra at the
00:21Trinidad All-Stars Pan Yard as part of the celebrations for World Steel Pan Day.
00:26Tuesday's celebrations took to the form of an ancestral walk by several steel bands from Massey Trinidad All-Stars to
00:34BP Renegades Pan Yard, a symbolic journey honoring those who laid the foundation for the movement.
00:39We pay homage to the ancestors or pancestors as we refer to them. Since in the early 1930s, in the
00:51late 1930s I should say, we know that the movement evolved since then.
00:57The walk is also a reminder that this legacy would not stay in the past as it is being carried
01:02forward by young people.
01:04What is more fitting about this year's celebration is the celebration of our young people, the passing on of the
01:13legacy.
01:14Today we can safely declare that the steel pan or the steel band movement is in very good hands.
01:23Look at our young people, in very good hands.
01:27Ramsey Moore said, those young hands are building on the work of the pioneers and everyone whose passion helped move
01:34the instrument forward.
01:36And so we celebrate our youth, we celebrate the steel band leaders, we celebrate the pioneers, we celebrate the steel
01:45band technologists, all those builders, and those who use the fire, which is the passion of the movement, the water,
01:55which temper the spirits of our ancestors.
01:58And today we stand proud on the backs of those who have worked in the vineyards, born out of resistance,
02:07born out of struggle.
02:09Today the steel pan is on a world stage.
02:14Also joining the celebrations, Minister of Culture and Community Development, Michelle Benjamin, alongside Parliamentary Secretary Dr. Narenda Rupnarend.
02:23And so the journey continues from one panyard to another, from generation to generation, and from Trinidad and Tobago to
02:30the world.
