00:00Hi there.
00:01A cloudy day for many parts of the UK, dry initially across some southern parts of the
00:05country whilst an active weather front pushes into central areas bringing a spell of heavy
00:10and persistent rain, especially for Northern Ireland, Southern Scotland, Northern England
00:15and later parts of North Wales.
00:17That's slowly sinking south but it's going to pep up for a time around the middle of the
00:22afternoon and we can expect further spells of rain to move through Northern Ireland.
00:26Many parts of central and southern Scotland, Northern England and North Wales.
00:30This wet weather accompanied by strong winds so it's going to be an unpleasant afternoon
00:36for many.
00:37We've got two broad areas of rain that are slowly merging.
00:40To the south of this, cloudy, a few spots of rain and drizzle ahead of the main event, also
00:46breezy but still relatively mild, still talking about 14, 15 Celsius, even some cloud breaks
00:53coming through for parts of East Anglia for example.
00:55Cloud breaks also for Northern Scotland here.
00:57We're in a different weather regime.
00:59North-westerly winds bringing a chill to the air, a significant climb down in temperatures
01:05and that's going to be the main theme going into Wednesday.
01:10But before that happens, these spells of rain slowly clearing south-eastwards overnight.
01:15Wet for many in the south during the evening and then the rain turning more showery by the
01:21end of the night as the cold north-to-northwesterly winds sweep across the whole of the United
01:26Kingdom.
01:27Yeah, there will be some clear spells overnight but with a strong wind for many, gales in exposed
01:32northern parts, it will be largely low single figures rather than a widespread below freezing
01:39night.
01:39But it will be a colder night for many of us nevertheless.
01:43And cold enough for these showers to be coming into the north as sleet, snow, hail, a real mixed
01:50bag snow, especially above 100 or 200 metres across northern Scotland, settling over upland
01:56parts of northern Scotland.
01:58And these showers will drift further south, there could be some sleet and hail mixed into
02:02the showers further south as well.
02:04So typical March showery weather with all sorts of things mixed in.
02:09But in between, some sunny spells, a brighter day for many even if we do have these showers
02:14rattling through.
02:17However, despite the sunshine, it's not going to be the warm sunshine we've enjoyed over the
02:21last few days.
02:22It's going to be accompanied by this cold wind.
02:24And when we compare the actual temperatures that thermometers will be reading, seven to
02:29nine Celsius, with the feels like temperatures, well, you can see the difference.
02:35This is mid-afternoon, bear in mind on Wednesday, feeling more like one to four Celsius across
02:40many parts of the UK, minus three for Orkney where gales coming from the north will make
02:45it feel especially cold.
02:47And these northerly gales, they'll bring even colder air into Wednesday evening such that
02:52we'll see snow down to low levels across the far north of Scotland, a mix further south.
02:58Again, rain, seat, hail in places.
03:01More clear spells coming through though on Wednesday night and overnights I expect we'll see fairly
03:07widely clear spells.
03:08So that will lead on to a frosty start in places on Thursday, gardeners beware.
03:13Further showers coming south for a time, but drier for many, especially towards the east
03:19and the northeast, even some sunshine briefly before the next weather system brings thicker
03:24cloud and some outbreaks of mostly on and off rain to Western Scotland and Northern Ireland.
03:29After that cold start, it's still a chilly day, 8 to 9 Celsius in the north, just about reaching
03:36double figures in the south before the very changeable weather continues into Friday and
03:41the weekend.
03:42It's not going to be a washout.
03:44By any means, there'll be plenty of bright weather, but expect further showers at times
03:47and up and down temperatures.
03:49Bye-bye.
