00:00Hi there.
00:01Some hot, potentially exceptionally hot weather is on the way for early next week.
00:06But for the time being, although it feels muggy out there, it's not quite as hot just
00:11yet and some parts of the UK experiencing heavy rain because we've got this emerging
00:15area of extreme temperatures across the near continent and the UK currently sits on the
00:22boundary of it.
00:23The boundary of it means that we are subject to weather fronts sliding in from the Atlantic
00:28aligned with the winds and so just bringing pulses of heavy rain at times across the northern
00:33and western quadrant of the UK.
00:36So for the afternoon, Northern England, North Wales, much of Scotland and Northern Ireland,
00:41outbreaks of rain, heavy and persistent at times especially across Northern England with
00:45the rain turning more showery for Northern Ireland and Western Scotland, later some thunderstorms
00:49possible.
00:50Now, outbreaks of rain will ease off across Wales and the southwest but it will stay a little
00:55bit murky with a lot of low cloud covering some of the hills, some sea mist as well and
01:00some patchy drizzle here and there especially over western coasts.
01:04But towards the east, it's dry initially through the afternoon, some bright spells, a fair amount
01:10of cloud out there but feeling muggy with temperatures reaching the low to mid 20s and even further north
01:16where we've got the wet weather, high teens, low 20s.
01:19This humid feel with the air coming up from the southwest.
01:21And that may be enough to set off some thunderstorms across the southeast corner late afternoon
01:27into the evening.
01:28They will scoot through fairly quickly, clear skies then emerging across the east of England
01:32overnight, cloudier elsewhere, again, a lot of low cloud, mist and murk around hills
01:37and coasts of the west and then further heavy and persistent rain emerging across Northern
01:42Ireland and Western Scotland by dawn.
01:46With all that cloud, with the humid feel, it is going to be an uncomfortable night for sleeping,
01:50I think for many of us, 15 to 17 Celsius.
01:54Then we start with a stark contrast on Friday.
01:57Wet and breezy for Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England, parts of the north and west
02:02of Wales.
02:03Further east, you can see extensive sunshine developing through the Midlands, the east
02:07and southeast of England.
02:08And as a result, temperatures rising very quickly.
02:12And this is the start, effectively, of the next heat wave for some places, with temperatures
02:18mid to high 20s across the central and eastern parts of England and up to 30 to 33 Celsius
02:24possible for some parts of East Anglia and the southeast.
02:27A big contrast towards the northwest, where, although the rain eases off, temperatures around
02:33the mid to high teens.
02:35There will still be some wet weather across the southwest of Scotland and northwest England
02:38and parts of Northern Ireland and west Wales as we go into the afternoon.
02:42And, with the heat building in the southeast, always the chance of some really quite lively
02:48thunderstorms developing here.
02:49They'll move through quickly, but if you get caught by one, torrential rainfall, large
02:53hail, gusty winds and frequent lightning, always a potential risk.
02:58More widely, thunderstorms developing on the other side of the channel.
03:02And you can see some heavy rain continuing in places on Friday night as well.
03:06So we're at the moment on the boundary between the high temperatures that are emerging across
03:11the continent and much fresher Atlantic air towards the northwest.
03:15But, the high pressure and extreme heat over the continent starts to nudge further north
03:21through Sunday and into Monday, so temperatures rising all the while across the UK.
03:25And it looks like for many parts of the UK, including northern parts of the country, it turns drier
03:30and considerably warmer through the weekend and early next week.
03:35The very highest temperatures, now I'm talking about high 30s, low 40s across France, but for
03:43the southern parts of the UK, the very highest temperatures likely to reach 34 Celsius, but
03:49give or take 2 or 3 degrees.
03:51And so, yeah, there is the chance of some exceptionally high temperatures in parts of the south and southwest
03:58on Monday.
03:59And we'll keep you updated on the details of that over the next few days, but yeah, something
04:03worth bearing in mind if you're making plans.
04:05Bye-bye.
