26 February - National Weather Forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.
Transcript
00:00Hi there. After some places got close to 19 Celsius on Wednesday, it's less mild today,
00:07but still above average temperatures expected with still southwesterly winds. However,
00:12this cold front has opened the door back to Atlantic-dominated weather for all parts,
00:17and these weather fronts are now pushing into Scotland, Northern Ireland, toppling into Western
00:22and Northern England, as well as Wales. Increasingly persistent and increasingly heavy rain in these
00:28parts as we go into the afternoon. To the east and southeast, drier, a few spots of rain as the
00:35cloud thickens, but mostly dry, increasingly breezy, and the rain clears Scotland and Northern
00:41Ireland, feeling a bit fresher as that happens through the afternoon, but with some lively showers
00:46moving in, especially for northwest Scotland with gusty winds. However, into the evening, and it's
00:53a tricky one for the rush for Wales in the southwest, with some heavy downpours of rain
00:58and that moving into the Midlands, eventually East Anglia and the southeast, seeing the rain
01:02arrive through the night. And by the end of the night, a lot of cloud throughout much of
01:07England and Wales, with outbreaks of rain on and off. Scotland and Northern Ireland remain
01:12in this clear spells and showers sort of set-up with gusty winds, and a little bit colder overnight
01:18here with some clear spells, a touch of frost in summer sheltered spots, otherwise mostly frost-free
01:23and a mild start to Friday in the south. Even if it is going to be dreary, with a lot
01:28of cloud cover,
01:29the remnants of this frontal system leaving a legacy of rain, which with lighter winds aren't
01:35showing signs of clearing definitively. In fact, some of this rain may well start to turn heavier
01:42into the afternoon once again. It's showery rain, it's on and off, and there's some uncertainty
01:47in terms of the location of the heavier and more persistent spells of rain, most likely
01:52through parts of Wales, the southwest into the Midlands. Showers also affecting parts of
01:57northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, but these will be more scattered. There'll be
02:00some decent sunny spells coming through, and it's going to feel a bit fresher in the north,
02:04temperatures back into the mid to high single figures, whilst we keep the relatively mild air
02:09in the south, even if it is cloudier, without breaks of rain, making it feel more unpleasant
02:15at times. That rain could well increase in extent and heaviness heading into Friday evening. You can
02:23see how it's getting a bit more organised once again through these central parts, with not much
02:27of a wind to move it along, so it's going to persist in some places before eventually we've got this
02:34clearer slot, a ridge of high pressure moving in across much of the country, to start the weekend.
02:40More on that on our YouTube channel as always, but for now that's all for me. Bye-bye.
02:46Bye-bye.
