09 February - National afternoon forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.
Transcript
00:01Hi there, we start the week once again with more rain in the places that we have seen
00:07a lot of rain in the last few weeks and for some that means it is the 40th day of rain
00:13this year.
00:14Now, we are talking about North East Scotland where it will be wet and windy, Northern Ireland
00:19where it will be damp and increasingly wet and windy towards the south west as this system
00:24moves in.
00:26Ordinarily, the amount of rain out of this wouldn't warrant a warning, 15mm widely,
00:3130mm over exposed hills but of course because it is so saturated, so sodden, this could cause
00:37some impacts and it does swing in and affect South Wales and parts of the south west and
00:43central South England during the evening rush hour.
00:46So watch out for that, but there was some drier weather around the Midlands, East Anglia at
00:50the south east, even some cloud breaks, but the best of any cloud breaks, the north east
00:54of Scotland, albeit with still one or two showers.
00:58Temperatures at 10 to 11 in the south, 7 to 9 further north, so less cold in the north compared
01:04with last week, but same old rain.
01:09And as we go into the evening, the first band of rain in the south west fizzles away as it
01:13pushes into central areas.
01:14It runs into the continent then, but an area of rain expands across much of central and
01:20eastern Scotland, northern England, parts of eastern Northern Ireland.
01:24Showers elsewhere and extensive low cloud, mist and even some dense fog in places, so gloomy
01:31starts to Tuesday.
01:33Not a particularly cold start nevertheless, 6 to 9 Celsius across the board.
01:39Now we start the day on Tuesday with that persistent rain across Scotland and northern England,
01:44and it's eastern Scotland once again where we'll see that rain continue and accumulate
01:49through the day, on top of what has been a very, very wet spell during the last few weeks.
01:54So a yellow warning here, snow over the peaks, but really confined to 400, 500 metres or above.
02:02Damp also for Northern Ireland and increasingly so for Western England and Wales as another band
02:07of more showerier rain moves through, and this moves through reasonably quickly, gusty winds
02:12following and it stays windy in the northeast of Scotland.
02:17Southeast England again a little drier and brighter, but a few showers here and there.
02:23Temperatures similar to Monday, 6 to 9 in the north, 11 to 12 further south.
02:29These areas of rain edge northeastwards, more showerier rain coming in for the evening and
02:33overnight, some heavy downpours once more for the southwest as well as for south Wales.
02:39And if you're sick of all of this kind of weather, well there is some hope on the horizon,
02:44something a little less wet heading our way for later in the week and into the weekend.
02:49There'll be more on that in the Met Office week ahead forecast, which you can find later
02:53on Monday on our YouTube channel. Bye bye.
