A young cart vendor was killed after a speeding Scorpio rammed into him in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh district, triggering protests by angry villagers.

The incident occurred near Goga Saw intersection in the Jeyapur Kotwali area. The deceased, identified as Harendra Sonkar, used to support his family by selling chickpeas from a cart. He died on the spot due to the impact.

According to police, the Scorpio driver was returning with his family from Maihar after attending a tonsure ceremony when the vehicle allegedly lost control and hit the cart. CCTV footage of the accident has also surfaced.

As news of the incident spread, family members and a large number of villagers reached the spot and blocked the road in protest. Police officials arrived and pacified the crowd after nearly an hour of persuasion and assurance of action.

The accused driver, Bharat Singh, a resident of Bhatauli Ibrahimpur village, has been detained. The Scorpio has been seized. A case has been registered based on a complaint, and further legal proceedings are underway.
