BJP Yuva Morcha Leader Shot Multiple Times Outside Home in Lucknow

BJP Yuva Morcha leader Chetan Tiwari (30) was critically injured after an assailant allegedly opened fire on him in Lucknow on Saturday night, in an attack captured on CCTV cameras.

The incident took place around 8 pm in the Mehndiganj area under Bazar Khala police station limits, when Chetan was standing outside his house.

According to police, the accused arrived on foot carrying a pistol and suddenly opened fire at close range. CCTV footage shows the attacker, dressed in blue jeans and a white shirt, approaching Chetan before firing multiple rounds.

Police said Chetan tried to duck and save himself, but the first bullet struck him in the waist, causing him to collapse on the road. The attacker then allegedly moved closer and fired more shots, hitting him in the shoulder and neck.

The footage also shows nearby women and residents running in panic as the accused allegedly pointed the pistol towards them as well, forcing people to retreat into their homes.

After firing around five rounds, the attacker fled the scene on foot. Locals rushed to help the injured leader, who was seen lying in a pool of blood, and immediately shifted him to KGMU Trauma Centre. His condition remains critical.

The incident triggered tension at the hospital, where supporters and local residents gathered in large numbers demanding the immediate arrest of the accused. Police officials reportedly spent nearly an hour trying to calm the crowd.

Police have identified the accused as Vaibhav Vajpayee (30), a resident of the same locality. He has been taken into custody and is being questioned.

According to investigators, Chetan Tiwari works in hoarding installation, and the attack is suspected to be linked to an old rivalry reportedly related to hoarding disputes.

Meanwhile, a heated argument also broke out between locals and DCP West Kamlesh Dixit at the hospital after some people questioned the police claim that the accused had been detained.

Police said CCTV footage from the area is being examined in detail and investigation is underway from all possible angles.
