A shocking case of mob violence has emerged from Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh, where a police constable was brutally assaulted by an angry crowd following a road accident that left a father and his five-year-old son injured.

The incident took place around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday near the Maulagadh culvert on Bahjoi Road under the Chandausi Kotwali area. According to police, Head Computer Constable Pawan Kumar was driving a car along with Constable Pintu Kumar, carrying official registers from Chandausi Tehsil to Bahjoi for duty.

During the journey, Pawan Kumar allegedly pressed the accelerator instead of the clutch, causing the vehicle to go out of control. The car hit Mangal (25), a resident of Station Road in Bareilly, and his five-year-old son Akash, who were standing by the roadside waiting for passengers, and then collided with an e-rickshaw.

The accident triggered outrage among locals, who dragged the constable out of the vehicle and assaulted him, tearing his clothes and repeatedly slapping and punching him. A video of the incident, now viral on social media, shows some individuals attempting to intervene, but the mob continued the attack.

Police personnel from Chandausi Kotwali rushed to the spot after receiving information and managed to rescue the constable. He was later sent for medical examination. Meanwhile, the injured father and son were admitted to a government hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

In his statement, the constable said the accident occurred due to mistakenly pressing the accelerator instead of the clutch, leading to loss of control of the vehicle.

Based on a complaint filed by Pawan Kumar, police have registered a case against Karni Sena district president Bittu Thakur, e-rickshaw driver Suresh, Sudesh, and four to five unidentified individuals. One accused has been taken into custody, and further identification is underway using the viral video.

Station in-charge Anuj Tomar confirmed that legal action is being taken against those involved in the assault, and the investigation is ongoing.
