00:09Suara Rakyat Malaysia said the government's stance appears to be shaped more by political returns than morality,
00:15while Pusat Komas said Malaysia's treatment of refugees should reflect its international commitments.
00:21The groups were responding to Amnesty International's criticism of Malaysia's strong position on Palestine,
00:27but silence on Rohingya and Uyghur deportations.
00:31Suara Rakyat Executive Director Azura Nasron said public empathy is often shaped by identity politics,
00:37Islamization and ethno-religious identity, making solidarity stronger in some cases than others.
00:44She said support for Palestine brings high rewards at low cost,
00:48while issues involving the Rohingya, Uyghurs and migrant workers expose Malaysia's internal contradictions
00:54on immigration, border control and labor.
00:58Pusat Komas Director Gerald Joseph said more than 2,000 Rohingya refugees are being held in immigration depots,
01:05with some detained for nearly five years, calling it a major concern.
