A female sanitation worker, popularly known as ‘Swachhata Didi’, was seriously injured in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore after a heavy parcel weighing around 50 kg allegedly fell from the roof of a passenger bus and struck her during duty.

The incident took place on Sunday morning in the Rajmohalla area under the Malharganj police station limits.

The victim, identified as Sunita Bali, was cleaning roads in Ward No. 69 as part of the municipal morning sanitation drive when the accident occurred.

According to officials, a heavy parcel suddenly fell from atop a bus and hit her directly. Local residents rushed to help and immediately shifted her to Verma Union Hospital for treatment.

Doctors said Bali suffered fractures in her shoulder along with injuries to her waist and legs. She remains under medical care.

Following the incident, Bali’s husband, who works as a security guard with the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), lodged an FIR with police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Narendra Rawat said three accused — identified as Sanjay Kachhawa, Akash Bhamar, and Tushar Bhamar — have been arrested in connection with the case.

Police registered a case under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to attempt to murder, and further investigation is underway.

During questioning, Bali reportedly told police that the parcel slipped from the hands of workers loading luggage onto the roof of the bus before it fell onto her.

After receiving information about the incident, police and local administration officials reached the spot and sealed the warehouse of Indian Transport as part of the investigation.

Municipal corporation officials confirmed that the woman was injured while carrying out sanitation work during the routine morning cleaning operation.
