A shocking video allegedly showing cucumber vendors colouring pale cucumbers bright green before selling them to passengers at Katihar Junction railway station has gone viral, triggering outrage and swift action by the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

The viral footage, reportedly filmed on platforms 7 and 8 of the station, shows two women allegedly applying a bright green colouring substance to peeled or pale cucumbers before selling them to travellers.

The clip quickly spread across social media after claims emerged that the cucumbers were being chemically coloured to make them appear fresher and more attractive to passengers during train journeys.

Following the video's circulation, RPF officials at Katihar Junction launched an immediate crackdown. According to authorities, nine women vendors, including the woman seen in the viral clip, were detained for questioning.

Visuals from the station showed RPF personnel seizing baskets filled with cucumbers from vendors, while several women were taken into custody for interrogation. Videos from the scene also captured crowded platforms, the station premises, and the DRM office area as the controversy escalated.

RPF officials confirmed that the viral video was genuine and said an investigation was initiated immediately after the footage surfaced online.

An RPF inspector stated that all detained vendors are being questioned regarding the alleged sale of chemically coloured cucumbers to railway passengers.

The incident has sparked serious concerns over food safety and hygiene standards at railway stations, particularly regarding cut fruits and food items sold openly on platforms.

Many social media users expressed alarm over the alleged use of chemical colouring on food meant for public consumption and demanded stricter inspections and continuous monitoring of vendors operating at railway stations.

Others questioned how such practices could allegedly continue inside a major railway station despite heavy passenger movement and the presence of railway authorities.

Passengers have also been urged online to remain cautious while purchasing cut fruits and raw food items during train journeys.
