22 January - National morning forecast presented by Clare Nasir.
Transcript
00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this wet morning, cloudy with some strong winds.
00:06Warnings are in force across central and eastern areas of Scotland.
00:09Low pressure sits towards the west there.
00:12These weather fronts are slow moving.
00:14Rainful totals will gradually increase across central and eastern areas of Scotland.
00:17That rain warning extends till the latter part of Friday.
00:21And eventually as the air turns colder above around 400 metres, we are expecting some snow here.
00:26And then we look towards the southwest where it turns wet and windy with the risk of gales and further spells of rain.
00:32So it remains unsettled through the latter part of the working week and into the weekend.
00:37And if you're stepping out first thing this morning, you may run into that persistent rain across Scotland.
00:42A driving wind coming in from the southeast.
00:45Showery further west, certainly some showery bursts across Northern Ireland, Wales as well as the west country.
00:50And then this rain, the low cloud across much of England.
00:54Towards the far east there, you could see some dry skies, but you will take the brunt of those strong southeast winds as we head through the morning and into the afternoon.
01:04But notice how that rain just stays in place as that wind just delivers that moisture cloud as well as outbreaks of rain right the way through today.
01:13Elsewhere, showery bursts continue, particularly across England and Wales.
01:17They could actually merge to form a longer spell of rain and still windy across the western side of Scotland, North Channel, Northern Ireland.
01:25Temperatures then 10 in the south, 8 in the north, feeling probably a bit lower than that given the cloud, the rain and the wind.
01:33And that rain and wind continues into this evening and overnight.
01:36Steadily over the hills and mountains above around 400 metres, we'll see that rain turn to snow.
01:43Showery bursts across Northern Ireland, Northern England, perhaps a clearance coming in across mid Wales, the Midlands, eastern counties as well.
01:50Before we see wet and windy weather arrive across the southwest of the country, that rain could turn heavy and the risk of gales as we head into Friday, particularly across the southwest peninsula.
02:01Through Friday morning then, the rain continues with that snow over the high ground of Scotland.
02:07You can see some movement pushing northwards, but that wind will be very strong here with some high waves.
02:13That band of rain extends towards Northern Ireland, Northern England, East Anglia and showery bursts down towards the southwest with that very strong wind touching gale force along the coastline.
02:22That low pressure remains in place through Saturday.
02:25Showery bursts continue through the day across England and Wales, clipping Northern Ireland, West Wales up towards western parts of Scotland.
02:33And we'll see a few wintry showers across the far north and east of Scotland.
02:36So remaining unsettled into the weekend before it turns colder.
