00:00There's more dry weather to come across southern parts this weekend and into next week.
00:04A different story further north, here we have some rain.
00:07But a big talking point is the high pressure that's currently across us.
00:11Now that is drifting away towards the east as we go through this weekend,
00:15but still we're going to be heavily under the influence of it.
00:18And actually we need to pay attention to the wind direction,
00:20because as that drifts away towards the east, we drag in a hotter air from the south,
00:24which is why temperatures will rise through this weekend.
00:27All the time, however, that frontal system in the north, that gradually edges a bit further southwards,
00:33but it's not really going to bring much of any rain to southern areas where it is set to stay
00:38very dry.
00:40But back to the details then.
00:42Through the rest of Friday, staying quite cloudy across central northern parts of Scotland,
00:46further rain to come, some blustery winds as well.
00:49Across Northern Ireland, things are set to cloud over as we head towards dawn,
00:53and I am expecting a bit of rain to push in, particularly to western parts as well.
00:57And then elsewhere across England and Wales, some southern parts of Scotland as well.
01:01A dry night, often clear skies, and so similar to last night, a bit of a fresh one really.
01:06Temperatures in some prone spots could get as low as 3 Celsius,
01:11mid-single figures in many rural areas, even if towns and cities likely to hold up in double digits.
01:16So, yes, a fresh start to the day compared to what we've had through much of this summer,
01:21first thing on Saturday morning.
01:23A bit of cloud, some medium-high level cloud, that kind of thing.
01:26So, bright rather than sunny, perhaps, for many places across England and Wales through tomorrow.
01:31Can't rule out some showers across western parts, but on the whole, I think it's looking largely dry here.
01:36And then across Scotland and Northern Ireland, a cloudier, wetter pitch,
01:40there's still some brisk winds, gusts in excess of 30 miles per hour, and some exposed spots.
01:45And the heaviest rain, the most persistent rain, will be across the far northwest of Scotland.
01:50Now, as I mentioned, we have that warmer air coming in from the south,
01:52so temperatures will be rising mid to high 20s across many parts of central eastern England,
01:58and then high teens, low 20s further north.
02:02If we just compare the maximum temperatures for Saturday with what we've seen through today,
02:07you can see many places, not everywhere, but many places are a fair few degrees warmer across Northern Ireland
02:13because we're stuck under that front with some cloud and some rain.
02:16Temperatures here will be suppressed, so a chillier, fresher feel for sure because of the unsettled weather.
02:21That wet weather, though, in the northwest does gradually push a bit further southwards
02:26through Saturday night and into Sunday, so some of that rain pushing into parts of Northern England,
02:31staying quite cloudy, wet across central southern parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland.
02:35Something a bit drier across the far north of Scotland developing, but even a few showers here,
02:40and then the bulk of England and Wales having a dry night with some clear skies.
02:43And similarly, it's going to be a bit fresh, perhaps temperatures picking up ever so slightly
02:48compared to this coming night, so not quite as fresh for England and Wales,
02:52even though there will be a lot of clear sky around yet again.
02:56Then through Sunday, we sort of end up with three zones of weather, I guess.
03:00So across southern Scotland, Northern England, Northern Ireland, there's this front lingering cloud
03:05and rain coming through. Pulses of rain could be quite persistent.
03:09Not especially heavy, but could be quite persistent.
03:12Then we have some showery bursts of rain with a few sunny breaks mixed in across the northern third of
03:17Scotland,
03:18and then the rest of England and Wales having a largely fine day with plenty of sunshine and even higher
03:24temperatures by Sunday.
03:26We're looking at temperatures getting into the low 30s again.
03:29It's been a few days since we've seen temperatures in the low 30s, but yes, 31, 32, possibly 33 Celsius
03:35in the southeast.
03:36Fresher, though, towards the northwest.
03:38And again, if we compare Sunday's highs with Saturday's, and you can see a bit of a contrast, really.
03:44Whilst in the south, to the south of that front, it is going to be a fair bit hotter,
03:50especially in the south-southeast on Sunday compared to Saturday.
03:54But along that front and behind it, we have ever so slightly fresher air,
03:58so temperatures a few degrees down, around, if not a little bit below average for some places here.
04:04Now, that front does continue to edge further southwards through into the beginning of next week,
04:09but it's really breaking up and easing as it goes,
04:12which is why I'm not expecting much, if any, rain to reach those southern areas where we're in desperate need
04:17for some.
04:17And then we see high pressure building.
04:19And so, actually, with that front coming through, and you can see that wind direction,
04:23yes, we are likely to see temperatures dipping compared to Sunday, a little bit.
04:28We're still expecting highs in the high 20s for both Monday and Tuesday in the south,
04:34a bit fresher than this further north.
04:36But then as that high pressure builds in, well, there's more dry weather to come next week,
04:39and we're set to see temperatures rising low to mid-30s,
04:43possibly even a bit hotter than that, quite likely from the middle of the week onwards.
