00:00hey guys welcome back to the prices once again this is your host and again in today's video
00:05I figured I'd be doing yet another movie review and this one this is one of the all-time greats
00:14actually right today I'm gonna be reviewing taxi driver now this movie stars it has a pretty star
00:23cast although at the time they were just mainly upcoming but you have what the new Jodie Foster
00:30Albert Brooks Harvey Keitel and some others pretty big names by today's standards but remember this
00:40movie came out back in 1976 and it's directed by Martin Sosessi one of the legendary directors
00:47of the past century now taxi driver I have to say guys see clips of the movie in the past so recently
01:01I actually got around to actually watching it in its entirety from start to finish and I can tell
01:08you bro like watching through the whole movie it is one hell of an experience and probably wondering
01:16why is this movie so good what is it really going on this movie that makes it so I'm good you have
01:23your main character Travis Becker right he's this young guy sort of young guy he's like 27 and he is
01:32recently came out of the Vietnam War he's a vet he has a PTSD and he's in New York right in the slums
01:41of the shittiest places to be and he takes a job as a taxi driver in a night shift to like corporate living
01:50there and occasionally he you know he like one of those weirdos like if you look at him you didn't know
02:04exactly what I'm talking about right he has that looked at mannerisms he's very disconnected from reality
02:10his whole plight living in this slum you can relate to him and understand you know his circumstances and
02:20it's one of those things where it's sort of like hard to sort of explain is there something you you feel
02:27you know looking at this person and you know the situation isn't it's like something you just know
02:37from just by looking at it pretty much like looking at like an incel behavior in a sense like you know I know people like to
02:46throw around the term incel a lot and they pretty much like diminish the whole meaning of the term but if there
02:54was someone who could be described as an incel this is what it would look like right although there is very interesting things that
03:02happens with Travis in the movie right all the most interesting part is his view on you know the city
03:12how it's decaying into chaos in Manhattan and the crime and all that other stuff you know he wants to get rid of these all of that and
03:24in that he ends up becoming attracted to this girl right called Betsy right she's one of the campaign volunteers for the
03:36senator and you know the presidential candidate Charles Palatine right this is like a huge figure throughout the
03:43whole movie they cut back to him several times because he's like this figure ends up winning the election and becoming the
03:52president right although he's not really a main character he's a huge point of interest in the plot
03:58all right and this is actually would get interesting you have Travis who tries to like you know seduce his way
04:08into Betsy right looking at her as a standout form or a breath of fresh air from all of the decay that he views in the city and he tries to like you know
04:21like basically finesse his way to get to go out to get closer to her that kind of stuff but while it does work at first right he's actually getting to her at first
04:34basically screws it up by taking her to a porno movie in a theater now this ends up leading to a fallout between him and her and they pretty much ended their you know
04:49relationship sort of relationship sort of relationship at the time and from here this is probably where you have the whole incel sort of you know labels being shown around
05:00because here this is where you start to see Travis's real descent into madness because he starts to get very you know crazy more existential and he starts to get really
05:16very much see a killer ish vibes but not full on but like in that sort of like lane right he gets very enraged with Betsy for not like responding to him
05:30and he you know he basically shows a fit and he leaves and from here you get to like introduce the other characters
05:43interacting with him the other taxi drivers that you know he interacts with one of them being the wizard right
05:50you know tries to like have a bit of a discussion about this like you know if he needs help whatever
05:56and they shall dismiss it i think nothing with it then following that this is probably where it gets really interesting
06:06right you know this is where you see Travis tries to sort of quarrel his problems and i say sort of because
06:18instead of actually trying to like tackle his issues he pretty much looks like a bit of a band-aid on them
06:26but he he does a lot of physical training which is actually pretty good you know to try and get into shape
06:31because the dude is a skinny so he tries to put on some muscle and he gone and he links up with a
06:41dealer to buy a bunch of guns and then he practices shooting them right like he practices being a cowboy
06:50from those westerns and that sort of thing and even like does a lot of like tricks where he tries to
06:57conceal them this stuff and such this is why we have some of the best scenes in the movie with him just
07:05shooting if i am or him just exercising how to quickly draw the gun you know talking to himself
07:14in the mirror that's where you get that whole scene that turned into a meme you know the i talking to me
07:19see you know where he points at the mirror he's talking directly to the camera that's where you get the
07:25scene from right and that's some of the best of what you've seen right so it's it's going really
07:30good actually even though it's getting pretty risky you know the the direction he's going and it's going
07:37very good here then he kills a man in a convenience store and that's probably where should hit the fan
07:47although it ends up getting brushed off very easily as a nothing burger because you know it's the 70s in
07:54new york the crime one in rampant so nobody ever really took it as something serious in the in the
08:01plot right you know even though he literally murdered someone it was just that you know and here was it's
08:12really starts to get into like some of the crazier parts while he's doing his taxi drive and stuff
08:20they introduce you to a child called iris right she's a child prostitute whom he
08:31pictures himself as being her white knight in a sense because you know she's doing prostitution
08:37she's literally other age so he he wants to try and rescue her from that hell show this is where the
08:45movie is so formidable a bit for me not too much but a bit okay from here he decides to cut a take a
08:54little trim but get a new look he got a mohawk and he decides to actually go to all the public rallies
09:02to assassinate the palatine guy mentioned earlier who was running for the election this is it got pretty
09:09weird here because in one of the scenes earlier in the movie he was basically praising the guy saying
09:16he's a big fan of him i know he wants him to win the election all other stuff so it sort of felt like a
09:24bit of a weird inclusion to have this scene with him trying to assassinate him but then you know fleeing
09:32the scene before getting you know notice by secret service i felt a little doubt about that scene in
09:38my opinion now following that travis decides to go to the hotel to actually see iris he ends up shooting
09:49up her pimp spot who we interacted before then he come back and then he basically has a shootout with him
09:56then he enters a building and he has a shootout with another one of iris's clients right and this is where
10:05the movie almost lost me right because in this bit here right this shootout he kills the guys right i know
10:18he has he ends up like thing in the bounce as well but he gets severely injured like i'm talking like several
10:28gunshots on his body and one on its like neck or probably close to like like his neck or so right
10:39and in this scene you know it it shows him being very symbolic like he wants to commit suicide but he has no
10:47bullet so when all the police shows up he just you know does a symbolic thing but then he's like he
10:56passes out an arrow so just they're sobbing like a bitch right because she basically saw like a mass
11:05murder sort of take place right in front of her and the reason why i explain this is because this is
11:11probably in my opinion the the weakest part in the movie right because what happens here in the ending
11:19they essentially try to make it to all those perfect endings where you know or he is there at the end
11:25he recovers some of his injuries and he's back to being attacked to general as normal and you know iris
11:30is like oh she's in a better place now in another city and she's actually going to school as a normal
11:38tutorial and they sort of hinted at him and bet she's sort of like being on good terms now sort of
11:45which is like one of those perfect endings wrapped up in a bow type ending and i felt it was a bit of a
11:55cop out in my opinion because the first two acts were very solid and the third act was actually going
12:04pretty good you know minus um like one or two scenes it was like very good and the ending i think
12:15what really thing for me was a part where he had a shoot off because let's be real here okay that
12:23shoot off he should have died from that like the amount of times he got shot and you know how he bled out
12:30on the couch i just find it i didn't find plausible that he survived that shootout that is the point
12:40that really sort of like lost me in the movie otherwise everything else was actually going
12:45pretty solid you know and then they sort of like had that top ending which to be honest i don't really
12:51disagree with the part with iris having the ending of going back and you know she actually gets out of
12:57the situation and living life as a normal 12 year old girl that's obviously a given but it was the
13:06the part where chavez survives the whole shootout that's a part that sort of like really you know
13:16threw me off there but other than that this the movie it's probably damn near perfect to be honest
13:23like the stuff i'm talking about here with the ending i know the third act it's pretty much like
13:29nitpicking if you've been honest you know like like sure it's not plausible but it's done so well like
13:39the acting the directing and the soundtrack and the soundtrack for this movie it's literally perfect
13:50like it perfectly captures the atmosphere of realism or the slump this city is that he's you know roaming
14:01through and these people and all of this starts going on it's perfect you know it really stings saying
14:11this because i was making this because i was making this review i found out that the composer for the
14:18soundtrack bernard herman he actually passed away after finishing the tracks scoring this movie like
14:26he wasn't even around when the movie was released you know and it really sucks because this is amazing work
14:34like it feels like the stuff that people try to do they try to do atmosphere and pulling the viewer
14:47and getting immersed into this sort of world that is being shown this is like the perfect sound trap for
14:57that even after all these years it doesn't get any better than this aside from the the cinematography
15:07and the directing because looking at this movie a movie from 1976 it looks and it feels like a movie that
15:18was made much more recent like the movie holds up very well aside from like some scenes where you know
15:26the film grain obviously is very much a bit too much and you can't really get around that but the most of it it feels
15:39like a movie that was ahead of its time you know what i'm saying so i gotta give props to man so sissy for that
15:48so yeah overall though wrapping this up like taxi driver you guys don't know it is one of the best
15:56movies ever made and i have to give it i would say a nine point seven out of ten right it's it's one of those
16:07movies that makes for a perfect character study you know diving into the the character and his thoughts
16:17and everything and the way the movie is shot breaking down all the scenes and such
16:23and that's not very realism almost documentary like sense manzo says he really directed the hell out of this movie
16:34and the acting here you know on display robert de nielsen really good here he really manages to completely
16:44become this character and really convince you that he is actually you know going through this whole
16:54ordeal the message in the movie is so much more
17:02relevant in today's society than it was back in 1976 like it's unbelievable when you think about it
17:11like when you think about how society was in the 70s when this movie came out right and it was viewed as a
17:18pretty violent edgy movie at the time but today it feels very tame because of the direction
17:26how it has been going but it feels more relevant by today's standards you know when it comes to
17:35men and society and how you know it is the way it is in terms of like
17:41society and people right and so i'm just gonna wrap this up guys taxi driver the perfect movie out
17:52there great acting great directing great visual soundtrack and everything it is the movie that
17:58critics have been saying it is right right if it wasn't for like the the the nitpicks i had i
18:06probably have given this a perfect 10 to be honest no but that's just pretty much my opinion though
18:13let me know what you think in the comment section down below however on taxi driver guys do you like
18:18it do you hate it do you think it's overrated or not let me know what you think about it in the
18:24comment section down below however and i'll be sure to make other videos like this i'll see you guys
18:29let me know what you think about it
