00:00hey guys welcome back to enderprises once again this is your host on the game and today's video
00:06i'll do another movie review okay now i'm not gonna lie this movie really did got to me
00:20like it's one of those movies that you eat after you watch you tend to think about it a lot like
00:26those types of movies and when you watch it again you tend to appreciate also it does but it's a very
00:35archie house type movie and it's a movie that you can say is definitely a movie okay today i'm going
00:43to be reviewing manchester by the sea starring casey affleck plot the premise essentially is
00:50you have this guy right named lee chandler he has to like sort of this thing with this you know
00:59brother passed away and a funeral has to take place and he has to organize all that stuff
01:04and you know that you know it's like a lot of like goes on and you realize this guy has a depressing
01:14life because aside from him having to go to this you know really dispersing up situation with this
01:22um during dying he also has to look after his brother's son while making the funeral arrangements
01:34right and you know there's a bunch of stuff that's going on here and you know he has to like organize
01:41all this other stuff and what you're seeing is grief unfolding in real time like this is one of the
01:49things that about the movie that stood out to me a lot right because you know i'm a lot of movies out
01:55there like these artsy types um you know award type contenders that comes out they try to play into
02:03this aspect of realism you know like that's a huge thing people talk about like oh they try to make the
02:08movie as realistic as possible how people really are in the real world and they try to get captured
02:13and that sort of like documentary kind of you know sense right so when you sit down you feel like you're
02:20watching real people well this movie kenneth logan really did that here with the way he directed this
02:29it's very documentary like you know a lot of long cuts there are no fast-paced edits nothing
02:38no cgi and all that special effects either as far as i can tell it is essentially this guy in the
02:43stone that has to deal with this you know family tragedy organize his funeral take after you know
02:53all the stuff this guy left in his arm will you know the son the other stuff and that's not even the
03:01the worst part of it there's actually a lot more going on in this guy's life this shitty shitty
03:10depressing life he's living right there's throughout the movie there's like flashback sequences to his
03:17past life where he was married and he has children because lee chandler actually used to be a normal guy
03:23but then he actually forgot to put the thing on the fireplace and let his whole house burning down
03:31and killing his children yeah although no criminal charges were filed against him because it was
03:38you know sort of like negligence you know it wasn't like intentional anything like that so he can't
03:44really recharge per se and given how tragic the situation was the law enforcement was like yeah
03:53you're free to go you know it's fucked up because you're essentially like you know drunk having
04:02a good time whatever you go to start to get more beer come back whatever and you see
04:08your whole house that you work for just gone on top of that his children is gone yeah and his wife is
04:18out there just crazy because she had to witness all that happening yeah and it's interesting because
04:27that whole flashback sequence of his past life you know him losing all this stuff and you know him and
04:35his wife separating and such that essentially it explains his whole perspective right where you
04:42you've seen him here on the takeover after his brother his belongings and his brother's son and all
04:50this other stuff and you you tend to realize why he is the way he is and you know how he's depressed and
04:58he's a boy and he doesn't really want to commit to any of the other stuff because you have all this past
05:05trauma here that's hanging over his head and it's really interesting and it's really good the way how
05:14it was told and then there's also the other character right Patrick who's basically you know this
05:23guy that has to deal with his dad passing away and you know his school life because he's a teenager
05:31and he has to reconnect with Lee this is really interesting because there's also a bit where he
05:38wants to reconnect with his mom who sort of like you know everything strange and has a different stuff
05:45going on and that whole stuff turned into a weird interaction as well essentially all these guys are
05:55weird in their own senses got their own problems like no one here is perfect everyone got their
06:02shit the trauma and essential that they deal with including Lee's wife right there's a segment in the
06:10movie i think around the third act where you know randy he meets back up with her you know she has moved on
06:18or sold out no shares and newborn child and they sort of like recollecting on such and it's a very
06:27gut-wrenching scene to watch yeah and what really nails it home is the the acting and not not just casey
06:37affect there's also michelle williams she plays randy she does a really good job here the acting good
06:45acting all around but yeah back to the story a little bit there's instances where you know Lee gets
06:54into fights because he gets drunk at a bar and there's one time he actually picked a fight that he
07:00he got knocked the fuck out really badly and after that you know they they sort of like wrap up the
07:08movie after that where the characters get to like understand each other more and you know all that
07:16stuff it gets sorted out right yeah and the movie i wouldn't say it has one of those sort of like happy
07:26endings per se um but it's so it does like ties up the loose ends in a sense right you know you have the
07:36the main guy and Lee and Patrick you know they sort of like agreement on what they can do post burial
07:44you know after this whole stuff that's passed i have to say after watching the movie and watching it
07:52two more times right i watch it three times total it's it's one of those movies where it it it's just
07:59sticks to you and it's not really because of the the story essentially i mean the story isn't really
08:06that much per se essentially it's just like a stage of grief with this character as he you know he goes
08:14through all this stuff and he has to deal with all this stuff with these other people
08:17right so it's not like something very unique in terms of storytelling and it's very simple but what
08:25really made this movie special in the way it was directed and edited like Kenneth Logan this guy really
08:34mastered the art of realism in filmmaking right you know there's something i mentioned earlier right
08:41that a lot of directors they try to make their movies seem realistic for these like you know
08:48awards type stuff right so you can people can brag and say oh this you know this is some real cinema
08:56but here with this movie manchester by the sea this dude really does go there and it's funny because i said
09:07earlier it has that very much documentary like approach right but it doesn't get to the point
09:17where it feels like a a documentary like because that thing a lot of these filmmakers try to do when
09:23they try to do like for realism right they they end up making the movies feel like like a documentary
09:29this movie this movie it doesn't he still manages to make it feel like film while maintaining those
09:39aspects of realism a lot there's a lot of beautiful like imagery that you get to see throughout the
09:47movie of you know the place on the boat and such and the music i think to its top tier it's like
09:55like like chef's kiss like to be honest like all the stuff about this movie it screams cinema like
10:06like the kind of cinema you're talking about is like the ones where people would sit down and just
10:10talk about it and just like dive into the characters like um the direction like one of those movies that you
10:19would really want to talk about in like a film school essentially that's what this movie is the way
10:28how it's structured and you know it was executed really fascinating the only grabs i actually have
10:39from you know to take away from this movie after seeing it so many times is the fact that it's a
10:46i watched that movie right and it's a movie centered on grief it's not a movie that's entertaining so
10:54to say you know like a like an entertaining popcorn flick you know it's a movie that you want to
11:04admire like film right and as i'm saying that the the the way the movie is the plot right the pacing
11:13it's also plays kind of slowish i wouldn't say it's paced badly it's just that it's not like fast
11:22pace right so you're gonna find yourself either liking this or hating this depending on your taste and film
11:30so yeah but outside of all that stuff really you know this movie is still a masterpiece essentially in
11:41the way that it's it was made and it it holds up like if you're someone that's into cinema you're
11:48going to find yourself liking this hell a lot the the direction perfect the acting perfect
11:56first oscar so yeah directing acting the music the cinematography everything is like near flawless on
12:04this movie like if i was to rate this i would probably rate it a nine out of ten it's an excellent movie
12:16well deserved after all the awards and the critical acclaim it has gotten like it's crazy because
12:23there's movies out there that you know you look at them and you think to yourself like
12:28like yeah that seems a bit overrated but this movie it definitely earns all the praise it got
12:37and i have no qualms recommended to anyone that's like you know into film into cinematography into realism
12:46that kind of stuff i have no qualms recommended this to the only thing that i would have to say about is
12:51that like i said earlier it's not like an entertaining popcorn tenner flick so like if you're not really
12:58into like film and such you just want something to be entertained by this ain't gonna do anything for you
13:05that's the only problem with this movie but other than that it's flawless guys and you gotta check it out
13:14so yeah all of the films of my review here for manchester by the sea guys amazing movie very great direction
13:25acting all other stuff pure film let me know how you think about the concert section below however do you
13:33guys like it do you hate it do you think it's overrated or not i don't know let me know i just
13:38wish you to go to my other videos and i guess i'll see you guys later
