19 December - National Morning Forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Good morning. After a dull, dismal and very soggy Thursday, today offers, for most of us at least, something a little bit brighter.
00:08Many of us will see some sunshine. Now, it's not completely dry. There's a fair few showers zipping into Wales,
00:13northwest England, and we'll keep going across Scotland and the north of Northern Ireland throughout the day.
00:18But much of eastern Scotland, eastern England, the Midlands and southern England will stay dry and fine.
00:24We'll have some sunshine here. Still quite breezy out there, but the wind's easing down a little bit,
00:29certainly across the south, enough of a gusty wind to blow in plenty of showers into northern and western Scotland.
00:36Temperature-wise, well, similar to yesterday's, touch above average for the time of year because the winds are lighter
00:41and because many of us are an awful lot drier and brighter, it'll probably feel a bit warmer at 9 to maybe 11 degrees Celsius.
00:48Temperatures will dip away a little bit if you're having anything out this evening, but for most of us, again, it'll stay dry.
00:53Still a few showers coming into Wales, and a few may develop this evening along the south coast of England,
00:59but the showers perhaps easing over northern Scotland through the night.
01:03Temperatures a little bit lower tonight. Still, most towns and cities staying above freezing,
01:09so far from cold for the time of year, but certainly colder than many nights have been recently.
01:14The temperatures in the west held up by a few showers, but also an increasing wind,
01:19and that'll be noticeable tomorrow. The wind's picking up around western coasts, a few showers likely here,
01:25but again, for most places, it's a dry and fine day tomorrow.
01:28Main exception to that would be Northern Ireland as the cloud thickens through the day,
01:32and a weather front pushes its way in, bringing some outbreaks of rain here during the afternoon.
01:36And later on tomorrow, some of that rain will get into Pembrokeshire, Devon and Cornwall also.
01:41Need to watch that because obviously it's been very wet recently, any extra rainfall far from welcome.
01:46But many central and eastern parts and much of Scotland are looking dry and bright on Saturday.
01:51Certainly a drier day over the highlands after the frequent showers of today.
01:56Temperatures a degree or so down tomorrow. Still pretty close to the average.
02:00Maybe a touch above in the south, get to 10, maybe 11 Celsius.
02:04But that weather front is moving in through Saturday, so it will bring some rain.
02:08But instead of kind of zipping through like you'd imagine it to, like many weather fronts have done recently,
02:14it's kind of going to grind to a halt. Low pressure continuing to dominate sitting out west.
02:20So our weather pattern is slowly changing as we go into next week.
02:24This low pressure still likely to be hanging around in the southwest throughout much of Sunday.
02:29So it'll be generating showers and that weather front where it's lying will make for quite a grey and a wet day.
02:36Again, parts of the east may stay dry, but with the breeze starting to filter in from the North Sea,
02:42that will bring a colder feel.
02:44And that is something that we're going to see more of as we go into Christmas week.
02:48More of an easterly wind picking up, bringing a colder feel.
02:52Temperatures by Sunday, single digits across the board.
02:55Close to average, still maybe a touch above, but certainly it is going to feel colder than it has done
03:01because it has been so very mild.
03:03So getting colder as we head towards Christmas, you want to keep up to date with the forecast through next week.
