00:00Morning. Storm Chandra is here bringing heavy rain and strong winds. We have a number of Met Office warnings in place.
00:07I urge you to check them out for yourself, see how you could be affected through the Met Office app or website.
00:13Heavy rain has been spreading northwards as it hit the colder air. We're seeing some snow now over the hills of northern England
00:17and increasingly through today over the higher ground across Scotland.
00:20The wind's really picking up now too in the east of Northern Ireland and in the southwest of England.
00:25We've seen some very heavy rain and further flooding over the southwest of England.
00:29The rain is at least easing here, but as it pushes its way northwards, as I say, bringing more snow over the hills of northern England and Scotland.
00:36Above about 500 metres, we could see 10 to 20 centimetres of snow.
00:40I think the greatest cause for concern, though, through the course of the afternoon will be the strong winds.
00:45In the east of Northern Ireland, gusts of 60, 70, maybe 75 miles an hour likely to cause some structural damage,
00:52but also the potential for damaging gusts for parts of southwest Wales and southwest England.
00:57And these areas affected by storm Goretti structures may be weakened, certainly because of a lot of heavy rain.
01:03The ground saturated, easy to bring down trees, so that could cause some disruption as well.
01:08As I said, there are plenty of warnings in place.
01:11It does turn a bit brighter, and when it does, temperatures may get into double figures across the south,
01:15but not feeling that mild with the strength of the wind and certainly feeling cold as these winds continue to feed in the cloud
01:21and the rain and the hill snow into eastern Scotland and northeast England, just five or six degrees here.
01:26The west coast of Scotland doing OK for dry weather through today.
01:31The wet weather in the east of Scotland will continue well into the evening,
01:33and the winds will only slowly ease down across Northern Ireland and southwest Scotland.
01:38Scotland stays pretty blustery around western coast, but many areas do become dry overnight with some clearer skies
01:43as the winds ease in the zone over northern England and Scotland.
01:47Rural areas may see some pockets of frost forming.
01:50Most towns and cities starting off Wednesday at two or three degrees.
01:54Tomorrow is a brighter day.
01:55Many of us will see at least some sunshine.
01:58The main exception to that could be the Northern Isles, where it stays cloudy with outbreaks of rain.
02:02And still into eastern Scotland, there'll be some snow on the higher ground here as the showers continue to feed in.
02:08There'll be some rain showers for Wales, southwest England, and a few for Northern Ireland,
02:11but nothing like as torrential as the rain as today.
02:14And it'll still be quite windy, but again, those winds are notched down on today's potentially damaging gusts.
02:20And for a good part of southern Scotland, northern England, east Anglia, trying a bright day,
02:24just a bit of a breeze blowing, temperatures a little below average, maybe.
02:28Maybe 7 to 9, perhaps 10 Celsius in the southwest.
02:32But again, feeling cooler if you've got those brisk winds.
02:35There will be further spells of wet and windy weather to come throughout this week.
02:40As I mentioned, please do go and check those weather warnings for yourself through our app or through our website.
