Transcript
00:00Good morning. Thanks for joining me for your latest update from the Met Office.
00:04If you're watching on YouTube, well, why not hit subscribe?
00:06And then you can keep up to date with the forecast as it evolves through the long Easter weekend.
00:11And we could be in for some fairly lively weather.
00:13Back to this morning, though, and it's a chilly old start.
00:16We've had a cold front, this line of rain, which has cleared through,
00:19bringing behind it just the odd shower over eastern England this morning and northeast Scotland.
00:24But most places starting dry and bright, but it is quite fresh out there.
00:28Temperatures will only struggle up as we go through the day,
00:30but we should hang on to some sunny spells, particularly southern parts of England and Wales.
00:35Generally, though, quite a lot of cloud and the thickening cloud bringing rain across Northern Ireland this afternoon
00:40and into western parts of Scotland with a strengthening wind here all set.
00:45Temperatures, as I said, will tick up slowly through the day, starting below freezing for quite a few of us
00:50this morning,
00:51but getting up to double figures across the south, maybe into the teens with some sunshine,
00:54maybe only eight or nine across parts of Scotland and feeling cooler with that strengthening wind
00:59and the heavier bursts of rain, which will continue to spread this evening in across Scotland.
01:04Some snow certainly likely over the tops of the mountains, wet end to the day for Northern Ireland.
01:09That rain through the night will spread into Northern England and Wales,
01:12and then we'll see some of it spread across the Midlands, East Anglia and the southeast
01:16by the time we get to dawn on Good Friday.
01:18With all the wind and the cloud and the rain, it won't be anything like as chilly as it was
01:23last night.
01:24Temperatures on Good Friday starting off at, well, five to seven degrees Celsius.
01:29So compare that to this morning, and it's three, five, even six or seven degrees above.
01:35So this map is comparing tomorrow morning's temperatures to this morning's temperatures.
01:39It's similar across these eastern parts of England,
01:42but it will feel a bit dull and a bit damp on Good Friday morning.
01:46Outbreaks of rain for many with a gusty wind, particularly over Northern England.
01:50Some lively gusts here, likely on Friday morning, only slowly easing through the day.
01:54A brisk wind bringing plenty of showers into Scotland and Northern Ireland
01:58with more snow over the tops of the hills.
02:01Bear that in mind if you are heading out for a walk on Good Friday through the highlands of Scotland.
02:05Further south, I'm hopeful for some drier spells.
02:08So much of the day here, just cloudy and breezy.
02:11We will see the zone of wetter weather crossing through Northern England and into North Wales.
02:15Again, quite mild in the south, but not feeling as mild because of the strength of the wind.
02:19Cooler air into Scotland and Northern Ireland, hence the risk of snow over the hills and that brisk wind.
02:25The strongest winds, though, through the course of this weekend are likely on Saturday and into Sunday.
02:30Eyes out in the Atlantic as this area of low pressure intensifies.
02:35Some uncertainty about its exact track.
02:37It may well be a little bit further north than shown here,
02:39but the isobar is really squeezing together, suggesting some very strong winds on Saturday,
02:44Saturday night and into Sunday morning.
02:46So that's something that needs watching.
02:48We've already issued Met Office yellow wind warnings for that.
02:52For more details on that and particularly around the uncertainty,
02:55you can watch Alex Burkhill's 10-day trend from yesterday.
02:59And as I said at the start, to keep up to date with the weather throughout the Easter weekend,
03:03the best thing to do is to subscribe to our YouTube channel.
