00:00Welcome to your latest update from the Met Office. Mixed fortunes this Wednesday afternoon and the weather remains pretty mixed
00:07and at times quite lively as we go through the Easter weekend.
00:10Here's the bigger picture, the view from space. We've got a big swirl of cloud out in northern portions of
00:15the Atlantic.
00:16But approaching us we've got this line of cloud. It's a weather front, a cold front and behind it the
00:21speckling of showers.
00:23That front itself is providing some pretty wet conditions through Wednesday across western Scotland sinking south and across northern Ireland
00:31too.
00:32So a spell of rain coming in here moving through the central belt through the afternoon as well.
00:36Brighter skies may follow onto the west coast of Scotland certainly for northern Ireland but so do the northerly winds.
00:42Some of that rain will trickle into northwest England and north Wales by the end of the afternoon.
00:47Most of England and Wales though staying dry. The odd little bit of light rain and drizzle is possible.
00:52A lot of cloud here but there are some breaks in the cloud particularly parts of northeast England with a
00:57bit of sunshine here.
00:58While temperatures are likely again to get up into the mid to high teens.
01:02Behind that cold front though the colder air is moving in so temperatures dropping even though we may see skies
01:08brightening on the west coast of Scotland just at 6 or 7 celsius in the far northwest this afternoon.
01:13And the colder air will push further south through the night taking this weather front with it.
01:17Bringing some damp conditions through Wales and the Midlands through the evening and then around the middle of the night
01:22we'll see a little bit of rain for east Anglia and the southeast but tending to disappear by the time
01:26we get to dawn.
01:27Clearer skies will follow as will that colder air.
01:30So yes that blue on the chart is some frost across Scotland.
01:34There'll be some snow as the wet weather moves south today and then a frost tonight.
01:38It's quite widely across Scotland and northern England in rural spots and in the countryside across Wales we'll also likely
01:45see those temperatures dipping close to freezing.
01:47So a pretty chilly start to Thursdays and frost also likely across northern Ireland for a time.
01:51But cloud will increase here through the morning.
01:53A bright start here and for western Scotland but it will turn increasingly grey the skies through the day.
02:00Could be a cloudy start across parts of east Anglia and the southeast.
02:03Maybe even the odd shower here but they'll fizzle out and most places actually having a dry and a bright
02:08day on Thursday.
02:09Some decent spells of sunshine certainly a brighter day for much of Wales and southwest England with some good spells
02:15of sunshine mostly light winds.
02:17A cold start but by the afternoon temperatures getting up to about average creeping into the teens across the south.
02:24But these numbers quite a bit lower than they have been for the past couple of days.
02:27And look that thickening cloud will eventually bring some rain into northern Ireland and western Scotland with some hill snow
02:33again into western Scotland for the afternoon.
02:36That is the first of a set of weather fronts that are going to come our way.
02:41Increasingly pushing in during Thursday evening.
02:43So again into central Scotland and then into parts of north Wales and northwest England during Thursday evening.
02:49It doesn't stop there though.
02:50Quite a bit more rain to come chugging in as we fast forward to Good Friday.
02:53So certainly a soggy start, a blustery, gusty start too, especially over parts of northern England.
02:59Should turn a bit drier and brighter in parts of Scotland for a time.
03:03But further spells of rain likely to come in.
03:04So quite a cloudy day with rain on and off.
03:07Quite a breezy day.
03:08Not too much rain across the south.
03:10So much of the day here will be dry but quite cloudy.
03:13And there will be that fairly brisk wind blowing pretty much everywhere.
03:17Temperatures.
03:17Well in the south we may see values again getting into the teens but feeling cooler with the wind and
03:22the rain.
03:23As we head into the rest of the long weekend.
03:26Well let's say we're talking about a series of weather systems coming in.
03:29Now this one needs watching because it's quite complicated.
03:32Almost two little areas of low pressure.
03:34Which one's going to develop?
03:35A bit of uncertainty in the track of this.
03:37But as it moves in, especially across the north, some very strong winds are likely Saturday, Saturday night and into
03:43Sunday morning.
03:44So we do have Met Office yellow warnings in place.
03:47If you want to see the full details of those weather warnings, check out our app or our website.
03:51And for more details throughout the long weekend, you'll want to watch our 10-day trend.
03:56Talking a bit about the uncertainty but having a bit more in the way of details day to day as
04:01we go through that.
04:01That'll be available with Alex Burkill on Wednesday afternoon on our YouTube channel.
04:05So good reason to hit subscribe.
04:07I'll see you next time.
