18 December - National evening forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00I know it's not saying too much, but for most of us, Friday will be drier and brighter.
00:05It's been a very wet Thursday across the country.
00:08The weather system, though, is moving away, so many places will become dry as we head through the night.
00:13Still pretty wet during the evening, still a lot of spray, a lot of surface water on the roads.
00:17Still a potential for some flooding across the south.
00:19As that rain, though, does clear away, most of us will become dry through the early hours.
00:25We'll always keep some showers piling into Wales, Northern Ireland and Western Scotland.
00:29along with northwest England, but many central and eastern areas will have some decent clear spells through the early hours.
00:35Still quite breezy, especially around western coast, and enough of a wind to stop temperatures dropping too far.
00:40We'll dip down to, say, four or five degrees in some towns and cities, but certainly most of us will be frost-free to start Friday.
00:48A fresher start, but a brighter start.
00:51Certainly across the south of England and the Midlands, a much drier day with some sunshine.
00:55There will still be showers feeding into Wales, particularly south and west Wales, the north of Northern Ireland,
01:01and across much of Scotland, especially north of the central belt.
01:04Showers packing in here throughout the day.
01:06But as is often the case with a westerly wind, parts of Aberdeenshire may not see too many of those.
01:11So eastern areas doing okay for dry and fine weather,
01:15and certainly much more sunshine across the south compared to Thursday.
01:19And with more sunshine as the breeze eases down, temperatures getting up to 9 to 11 Celsius,
01:26a touch above average for the time of year.
01:28So again, feeling quite mild as this December has been throughout, really.
01:32Now, the showers will continue in some western areas during Friday evening,
01:36but for many it will be a dry night with lengthy clear skies.
01:40The winds will start to strengthen in the west as we go through the early hours again,
01:44and that's a sign of things to come.
01:46And again, temperatures mostly dipping down into the mid to low single figure.
01:51So a coolish start to Saturday, but again, nothing unusual for December.
01:55And again, for many, Saturday is looking like a pretty good day.
01:58Dry and bright, we'll see some sunshine.
02:00The main exception will be Northern Ireland.
02:02Through the afternoon, a weather front's creeping in, bringing some outbreaks of rain here.
02:06And later in the day, that'll get into parts of Wales and southwest England.
02:10That is a weather front, and the winds will be picking up around that weather front as well.
02:15So getting quite blustery around western coasts.
02:17Elsewhere, as I said, many places dry and bright on Saturday.
02:21Temperatures only in single figures, so again, close to the average,
02:24maybe a touch above, particularly in parts of the south.
02:27That weather front looks like it's going to move in as we head through Sunday,
02:31but it kind of stalls.
02:33It's not going to push its way through.
02:35It's kind of just going to grind to a halt.
02:37Now, where it lingers, that's going to make for some persistent rain
02:41through Saturday night and into Sunday.
02:43But it kind of forms into an area of low pressure down to the southwest.
02:46So keeping things pretty showery for much of the south as we head into Sunday.
02:51For more on that, you'll want to watch the full weekend video from Aidan.
02:56That is available on our YouTube channel.
