Transcript
00:00Hello there and welcome to your Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Foggy for some this morning with some frost but rain in the west pushing eastwards.
00:09Now overnight it was cold for many. The fog has formed. This is a warning for fog until 10am.
00:16The rain already across the west there pushing eastwards.
00:19As you can see rain warnings for south and southern parts of Wales as well as the west country.
00:24These are sensitive areas we've seen so much wet weather through the past month.
00:28And before that as well swollen rivers, the risk of further flooding and obviously spray on the roads with a combination of wind as well as that wet weather.
00:38Now this cold front here does push eastwards and then rain returns to southern parts of England into Thursday.
00:46Heavy rain at that and then eventually south Wales, the west country moving northwards with some heavy showers across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:54Friday's looking like a better day all round. A few showers still windy but some sunshine coming through.
01:00For the time being though, watch out for that western windy weather across Scotland and Northern Ireland, northwest England.
01:06Spray on the road, poor visibility. If you are travelling you could see some surface water issues as well.
01:12So tricky driving conditions. The rain slowly moving in across west Wales.
01:17Further east though, it's murky. It's a quiet start to this morning but that fog is stubborn and it's dense.
01:24However, as the wind picks up, that fog will lift into low clouds. It's a murky day though.
01:29So through the morning we watch as this wet weather marches ever eastwards.
01:33Heavy pulses of rain continue to extend along this rain band and then through the morning into the afternoon,
01:39it reaches eastern counties of England. The Midlands becomes more sporadic across Northern Ireland, Central and Northern areas of Scotland.
01:48But this rain warning kicks in and notice some heavy pulses are likely through the day.
01:53So as we head through afternoon time and rush hour, it's going to be tricky on the roads yet again
01:59with the combination of wind and rain and because there has been so much water so far this month and also last month.
02:08So that wet weather will cause problems. As I said, it does extend eastwards into the evening time.
02:15Temperature is 10, 11 degrees Celsius. Here are your warning zones though.
02:18This is where we're most concerned about that wet weather.
02:22So as we head through Wednesday evening, see where the heaviest pulses will be.
02:28The Midlands, Wales, Central and Southern England, the South West of England extending towards Northern England.
02:33Northern Ireland seeing a few showers towards the west there, a little bit of patchy rain further east.
02:38But these showers will be heavy across Scotland through the evening time, again with the risk of some thunder.
02:45They'll rattle across the country because of the strong winds, but they could cluster together giving some quite intense downpours.
02:50The rain pushes across southern parts of Scotland through the evening.
02:54It will eventually clear by about mid-evening Wales and then the west country.
02:59But notice the rain turns heavier across central southern England and East Anglia.
03:03Warning here, again some high rainfall totals causing some issues if you are travelling.
03:09Into Thursday morning then, the first thing you can see where the wet weather is.
03:13It returns to South Wales as well as the west country.
03:16Some clearer skies across the central swathe of the country, but a lot of showers across Shetland, Orkney, as well as the west of Scotland.
03:24And notice this rain returning through the day towards Northern Ireland.
03:28So we watch the progress of this wet weather as it this time extends northwards across the country.
03:34By lunchtime covering much of northern England and then southern Scotland,
03:38continuing to rain across southern and southwestern areas and some heavy pulses also towards the west.
03:44A strong wind associated with it as well, temperatures around 9 to 12 degrees Celsius.
03:49And your outlook through Friday.
03:52It's a chilly day, a bright one with some sunshine, a few showers towards the west.
03:56Watch out for a wind which will be strong, particularly across more northern areas.
04:01Into the weekend another band of rain moves in.
04:03Stay up to date with the warnings and we'll keep you posted on all our social media channels.
04:08See you later.
